Interesting hearing Mourinho's comments. Apparently he was devastated when Liverpool chose Benitez and not him to be Liverpool manager in 2004. We won the Champions League with Benitez in 2005 so have no regrets - but it's intriguing to think what would have happened at Liverpool if Mourinho had been their manager. Very different I think!

Liverpool FC, didn't choose him, because of his playing style. We always had an attacking very minded football. I can probably say apart from Souness, still he had some success. With Mourinho it wouldn't be, what the club's about. That's why the club decided for Benitez. A more tactical minded Manager, that plays a good attractive football with also proven record.
I'm glad we never got him. That team Benitez built was legendary to this day

Hearing Mourinho or Fergie talk about anfield and the Liverpool fans sends chills down my spine every time. They were our biggest rivals. They make a career out of hating Liverpool and casting shade on them. And it's true in all sport, you only fear those you respect. As venomous as Chelsea vs Liverpool or man United vs Liverpool fixtures were during their reign. It was the height of football during that era, true sport, true professionalism, true competition

Lived in England in 2001, never been a fan of English football but when a friend took me to a game at anfield it was instant love, since then I became a true supporter and still watch every single game. It’s impossible to not fall in love with that club when you go to the stadium and hear YNWA… it was one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever had.

I have never been to Anfield as im in another Country, but you can see how passionate the fans are on TV when I watch the games and I reckon it would be an amazing atmosphere at Anfield, specially on a European Night. I just feel the owners have wasted a few good years from Klopp with not supporting him with enough money to spend. He has worked miracles with the budget he has had to work with and hopefully our owners will give him enough spending money soon before he leaves to really beef up the squad and get one more title before he leaves.

When they all sing that song, 'You'll never walk alone', it creates an atmosphere like no where else. No one else has a song like that. It brings everyone together in harmony. It's always sung with great passion and pride. It's Liverpool's song and others may use it but it's doesn't have the same connection as it does with the Red's fans.

Shanks had it playing in 63 in pre season before a game for the fans too.

@@VR46314 The song comes from a musical from the 40's or something and Gerry & The Pacemakers had a hit with it. Btw, imo Celtic sing it better because they sing it slightly slower and therefore are more in beat with one another. I find the Liverpool fans rush it a bit towards the end and go slightly off beat. I think Dortmund fans also sing it now too, some other club in Germany also use it.

Iv'e watched this for most of my life (i'm now 65) from Shanks to this day,and being a Toffee i'ts been really hard to take.MANY MANY great nights of unmatched atmosphere,hats off to all the people of Liverpool you are the shining lights of British football and long may it continue
As a life long Liverpool fan myself, I have to say Everton needs to get out of the shadow of Neverton , it’s a real pain to watch Everton plays and sometimes how I wish Everton goes down to champion league.
As a lifelong 54 year old red it actually pains me to see how shite Everton really are, having two top teams, or rather THE two top teams in England is good for our great city.
I really do miss the days when it was a Mersey thing with both reds and blues fighting it out for all three domestic trophies and the other minor Mickey Mouse ones too like the Charity Shield and the Screensport Super Cup lol.
I hadn't realised this until very recently but Luis Figo had a chance of going to Liverpool and even now he says that was one of the biggest regrets of his career was not getting to play for Liverpool.

When watching on TV, I feel goosebumps, so imagine being @ Anfield, inside that stadium, specially during the European nights. Extraordinary!!!!
Trust me, tv do not show atmosphere, you know at times it quiet on the TV, it's more that the microphone doesn't pick up and/or the providers cut it off. Football generally has something going on all game with fans. Liverpool doesn't consistently create great atmosphere, only on the bigger occasions and/or when we're playing great football or decisions go against us and we want to back the team. Red card nunez springs to mind.
I also get why, why should our ground be loud playing against smaller teams that we should be beating, we do when out team is playing well and beating said teams.
But a European match midweek, gets the support because its dark, cold and wet so got to do something. Lol
I experienced it once, it was a childhood dream for me to go to Anfield sat in the kop. Not ashamed to say I cried when we were singing our song. Incredible place to go

No idea if it's 20/20 hindsight from Messi, but one thing that always struck me about that 4-0 game was how defeated Barca looked after the first goal despite being 3-1 up on aggregate. The whole team looks like they just lost a world cup final when that first goal went it, it was strange.

The dressing room at half time, when only one goal down was like a funeral.
Messi says basically the first game flattered Barcelona and they had to run themselves ragged because liverpool was physically stronger. So when Liverpool got an early goal they was scared.
You can even see it in Messi's reaction to Dembele's miss in the first leg. He knew 3-0 wouldn't be enough.

Not a Liverpool fan myself but have always admired the club and their supporters. Have been there many times and have always had goosebumps when the whole ground sings 'You'll Never Walk Alone.' Used to love watching the European nights on wednesday nights back in the 70's and 80's as they were not only representing Liverpool but British football. Good to see them back up where they belong at the top but they won a few trophies in the 30 years they gave everybody else a chance to win the title. Only hope my club can catch them up a bit this year.

The “This is Anfield” sign used to say “Welcome to Anfield”, I think it was Shankly who wanted it changed as it was too inviting, he wanted the sign to be a statement.

Don’t believe the fools that have never been and say Anfield is a rubbish atmosphere. It’s the most unique atmosphere in sport. It has its own way created from so many historic nights. Iconic is an understatement for Anfield. It’s a special place. Especially, second legs in Europe.
Liverpool went 6 years without losing a single game at Anfield, in the premier league with a crowd. Their atmosphere effects players like no other ground in sport, not just football.

Hearing Pep talk about the This Is Anfield sign always sends the hairs on the back of my neck raise. People don't understand Bill Shankly put that sign up on the tunnel for SPECIFICALLY this reason; to intimidate. He knew the atmosphere at Anfield was special, and in his own words he "wanted the opposition to know what they were up against, and to remind our lads who they were playing for". Great minds think alike, and Bill Shankly and Pep Guardiola clearly think alike; Pep completely understands the psychological value of that sign, and that was EXACTLY what Bill Shankly intended.

More than most, if not any other team, Liverpool have earned the right to believe they can win against the odds - because they have so many times before. More than anything else, they are adventurous. There is a reason people cheer louder for a magnificent goal than a tap-in. It's really not just about the 3 points.

I'm greatful as a Liverpool fan and it's one of the best feelings when other managers talk positive about your team, but it feels like they aren't crediting the players as much as the atmosphere. Anfield is a fortress but our players are great.

We both live in hard working class places and enjoy the tribal reflexes of a Saturday game. Two city's, two clubs. One history.
I've been a lifelong supporter of this great club, but never been to Anfield yet. Next year I'll be celebrating my 60th B day, and we're going to Liverpool, going to enjoy a game at the fortress Anfield, take a special tour of the club that I consider to be my second family. YNWA.

My old Dad was born in Vienna street (gone now) which was literally across the road from Anfield. I remember as a child in the 70s looking at this enormous building, listening to the almighty noise coming from it and thinking, what is this place and why is it so loud! I eventually found out when my Dad’s best mate took me to my first match, I actually got to see Stevie Heighway on the wing!
Haters will always hate. So so many people have been affected by how we are. Sir Alex, pep, Jose, to add a few. There is a special something that makes us proud 👏 of our city and our players.

The miracle of Anfield was simply breathtaking. The miracle of Istanbul was special and even as a United fan I was happy, I had witnessed history, A team that had no right to even face the might of Milan, whose first 11 are all Legends and some of them GOATs of their position eg Maldini, arguably Pirlo. But the Miracle of Anfield was something else, the Barca team was just as stacked if not better than Milan's as they had the Goat (even as a United fan I realise that) and an amazing cast. But the thing that was different this time was that Liverpool had a stacked team full of WC players. They made history over and over again and that's why they will always have my respect, not my love.

When Messi was sitting on the ground and Andy Robertson ran buy and pushed Messi's head down and ran buy him laughing....was probably one of the most iconic Liverpool moments I'll ever see. It was if Robertson just ripped Messi's heart out and ate it. I knew right then that Liverpool would win that match. It was amazing. 😅
