I'm wondering if maybe you had the vehicle in "ECO" mode while on the highway during your test drive? At highway speeds, using this option can lead to more sluggish acceleration, forcing drivers to depress the gas pedal deeper in order to maintain speed while the electric motor works harder to charge the battery instead of working in tandem with the ICE motor.

I likely tried both but I can’t remember. Good point though!

Good review! I also rented a Fusion Hybrid once while on holidays in California and liked it. I was thinking about buying one, but now I'm somewhat hesitant since, as you mentioned, I'll be driving on the highway at least 70% of the time.

It might be more reasonable to get a Mazda6 I suppose, since they have a great gas mileage on the highway.

Thanks! The Fusion will likely stay over the 40mpg mark on the highway, depending on how you drive it :-D We have two Mazdas and they only have 6 speed automatics so you won't be getting as good of fuel economy. Our Mazda 3 is rated at 35mpg and we likely get a little less than that, and it's a smaller car than the 6.

Thanks for your reply! So I guess the Fusion it's still the better option.

This is a great video! I own a similar model and your complaints are the exact same as mine with the seats feeling awkward and the car feeling like it’s pulling against you when it goes over cracks and pot holes.
