Love when guys hop up a six cylinder. I was a member of the old Slant Six Club and saw many cars that made some good power with those little engines and have a lot of respect for the GM and Ford six's. Anybody can make power with a V8... It takes talent to make power with a six.
Inline 6 was available in Camaros too. As a matter of fact the very first Corvettes in the 50s were inline sixes and the first 67 Camaro built in 1966 had an inline 6.
Great car, sound, video! Thanks for sharing! I’m glad to see a build that doesn’t start with LS-?. Again, thanks! That’s a beautiful sight to see that under the hood of a classic car. Again, thanks for posting and sharing!
I was thinking the same thing. Every damn video on RUclips is doing a LS swap. How original only 9 billion others already did it. What is so freaking special about an LS besides them being the easiest thing to find. Do an inline 6, flat head, 302 dz, or a gmc 302 v6.
@@maggs131 It's not that they're the easiest to find, it's the durability and affordability of upgrading parts. You used to be able to find used LS motors cheaper but salvage yards caught on. You never find any Ford or Mopar motors that run at a salvage yard. They're usually seized up or have cracked block/head or a rod knocking.
One of the first classics I looked at purchasing was a slightly older Chevelle with that great little 250 and a 2-speed PowerGlide. Now, the automatic aside, it was a phenomenal car - it was a bone stock survivor, and it was so incredibly smooth and quiet in its stock state, that you could scarcely tell it was running when it sat idling. Would much prefer a stock 250 and 3-speed for casual summer driving and running about than even a small block! There’s just something about how refined, well-balanced, quiet, and reliable those little 250s are!
I'm not a Chevy guy but you have a Bad Ass Chevy ! Beautiful Gloss Black 72 Chevelle with a Awesome 250 straight 6 . You are a Old School Mechanic !!!!
wow, that thing sounds incredible, thanks for posting this video, it brought a smile to my face, and believe me that's hard to do my friend, I love it, if I had it I wouldn't change a thing!
Beautiful car! Chevrolet got famous in Brazil with this 250 inline 6 engine, in the 70's, it was more powerful then the V8's made around here, and the fastest car of the time was the Chevrolet Opala SS, a lightweight car, very nice to drive.
I am truly impressed! A '71 Malibu hardtop coupe with the 250 stovebolt and Powerglide in blue was the car I learned to drive in and later adopted growing up in the 70s. That car got some bruises, use and abuse from myself and my younger brother then. But since, my memories of that car--which my folks got from the original owner with just 45K and the original bias ply whitewalls--got me wondering about locating such a vehicle, which is next to impossible these days. Of course the reasons for that amount to the cult of 1970-72 big block SS cars and the scavenging of whatever hardtop coupes are left out there for tribute cars, etc. Add to that the fact that production of '71 Malibu coupes with the 250 six banger totaled fewer than 10 thousand and one understands what a rare bird you have. Cheers!
You sure don’t see that every day. An engine that most people would’ve discarded and replaced with a V8, and there it is, rumbling away and looking pretty in that beautiful car. Seen probably a couple hundred of these cars in my life, but never one do cool. Very cool.
Bryan Liguori i agree. you don't always have to have a big engine in your car. those who need a big engine in their cars most likely have something they're trying to compensate for.
re tard Well, that isn't true. It's perfectly logical the reasons for preferring a big or at least 8-cylinder engine. Power and torque chief among them (not to mention sound). But variety is the spice of life, and not every car needs to have 700 hp. With the 250, it's not the same kind of car as another guy's Chevelle; this guy took his car in another direction, and is owning it. (And it sure doesn't sound slow).
I built the same motor for 68chev 4x4 shortbed. Split headers offenhauser manifold holley double pumper. Great engine. Lotsa torque. Also built 292 out of a divco milk truck. Both great projects.
I had one the same year, and with a factory 6 banger. And, I'll tell ya she done just fine on back roads, and on the highway.sure wish I still had er.👍✌️
It's a nice car It sounds good I usually don't like those motors but they run great and if you keep an open mind and think about it they are really cool. Nice car bro
I had a 63 Chevy II 2door post with a very hot 250 c.i. took it out to 4" bore with 302 Z28 pistons,(deck height was right), big cam, head was modified, 650 double pumper, headers, big rear end 4 speed, too much to list, awesome launch, light car with no interior, one race seat, cage, would run M/H racemaster slicks, should of never sold it!!!
No In 69 Chevy had a 302 it was basically bored over 283 and those motors back in the day could easily reach 7500 rpm, they are exclusive in the z28 for one year so he’s right your wrong
This engine is the best in the world. Do you have other videos? When the car shakes a lot of hand because the torque original or not? Thanks good video
Sounds good i think i jave that same motor in my c10 4.1 straight six 1981 but i seen the intake were did you get that im thinking about saleing mine because i cant find the intake or exhaust manifolds from california so im limited to what i wanna do to it i only have one pipe with flow master and new 2barel carb $600
Now i see why it didn't sound like a straight 6. What exhaust are you running? What carb do you have? I have a offy and a holley. Getting head work done now. Lumps
always been a fan of I-6 cars... I've had a couple over the years. Now, I'm afraid... I'm a 396/402 4 speed kind of guy. Well I am... as soon as I restore my 71. ;-)
I hope it can do a nice posi burnout with that 6 cyl....I remember seeing occasionally in a hot rod magazine Plymouth duster with slant 6 with performance mods on it too.....its different...I cant judge
I'm looking at building rebuilding my tired old 250 in my 76 Nova and would be interested in some of your specs of you'd be willing to share. This thing sounds and looks awesome. Much respect for going with the 6. I love them and would take one over a v8 any day. Thanks for the video!

i have a 76 4-door malibu and have a plain jane I-6 250 i wanna make it bad as this and paint it to look like an old school taxi give me feed back please and any ideas what i should do
Powernation did a 292 and added a turbo and managed 375hp and a staggering 502 ft/lb of torque. It probably will not last long if its constantly stressed but impressive nonetheless.
i actually prefer the inline 6 over a v8 just because it isn't mainstream. I never drove any classic cars tho. Just am more interested in a classic inline 6 motor compared to classic v8s of any kind

i got a turbo v6 firebird if you're interested check my channel

Love the car, LOVE the engine. I wish more people kept the inline six.
Should take that 6 out and replace it with the Pontiac 250 sOHC Sprint 6.
w41duvernay yeah just waste 50+ grand on a rare engine that makes 10 more horsepower lol
