I put a 350 in my 84 s10 it had almost 600,000 miles on including a " king of the track" and " king of the hill" titles drag racing at Gainesville raceway, it was one of my service trucks and was an extremely effective way to advertise,
I've got an 89 F-150 with a 4.9 l inline 6, and that's the only reason I bought the truck 7 yrs ago. Had 51k miles on it and have only recently swapped new alternator, water pump, and starter solenoid. I'm at 189k now and pretty sure it was worth every dollar I paid for it. $450 to be exact
That is exactly what I wanted to do to my daily '84 S-10 back in the '90s! Mine had the 2.8 V6 with 4-speed, factory full gauge cluster, and a single glasspack exhaust. 250 Chevy engines were still plentiful and were practically being given away back then!
always thought this to be a great swap for pulling power , economy , and most of all durability !!!! I have my father's old 65 chevy pickup with a swapped 250 6cyl. , 3 spd on the column , 4:11 gears 21mpg at 55mph all day long !!!! you did a great job on that build !!!
That was my dream. The small square body with inline 6. I didnt thinh I could fit the extra 4.5" of engine in my 82 without a torch and welder. Great job!!!
Gm had still rods until the late 80s. The factory hydraulic system used a traditional through out bearing and fork with a hydraulic slave cylinder. I use a hydraulic though out bearing.
My '88 2.8 5 speed has a mechanical speedometer. On another note, I was just wondering, why go with the old inline 6 ?? What's the advantage over the 4.3?
Trying different things and found it likes the timing. I think the 4barrel carb and intake on a stock 230 w/stock cam has altered the vacuum signal and made the timing erratic
When I drive, I’m usually towing around 5-7k lbs, and I average about 10-12 mpg while towing. A couple of times, I calculated 17-18 mpg without towing, even with the 6-inch lift and 35x12.50-20 rims with all-terrain tires. Thanks for asking!
I was looking a 3.4 for a swap but, a friend of mine has the same engine 6 cylinder in line and I was looking a video to do that, I know this engine is very reliable and I think it is a gas saver, please let me know about the fuel consumption of this engine on S10 body and about the challenges to install this engine. I have 4.3 engine and it spends too much gasoline, will the 6 in line be better than the v6 4.3? in terms of fuel economy and enough power?? Did you modify the cabin a lot?
Mine is a hotrod build and hopefully will be receiving a supercharger soon. But plenty of room for p/s and a/c. Mine may end up with a/c before to long.
The 194,230,250,&early292 use the same bell housing, flywheel or flexplate as sbc. So any standard sbc trans should fit fine. The trans tunnel is where you may have to massage.
My sending unit is broken so no mpg. But 4.3l v6 are not great engines in my opinion. Mostly because of the fuel delivery, witch causing poor fuel economy. A 1barrel carb or efi would probably improve economy over my 4barrel.
People laugh at the six cylinders but done properly they're lighter faster. I had a 65 Mustang that the guy put in the rare 6 cylinder Ford 300 motor that the Australians love to race out. He put a positive traction rear end and a split header 3 and 3 it had the small itty bitty Autolite 2 Barrel. It flew🎉 I had a guy come in and inspire me to do it and I never did it he had the full off in the house or twin carb pack oh what the cam and crank all done. He called it the V8 killer🎉 positive traction and full exhaust🎉 always wanted to pick another one up cheap and do that but it's a matter of finding the motor they're not easy to find they put them in tractors. Cool video brother have a great day enjoy your truck🎉
Thanks for sharing your story-that sounds like an awesome build! The Ford 300 is definitely a beast when done right. The idea of a "V8 killer" with a six-cylinder is so cool, especially with all the upgrades like the split header and twin carb setup. It’s crazy how versatile that engine is, even being used in tractors! Glad you enjoyed the video, and I really appreciate the kind words. Hope you find another project like that someday-it sounds like a ton of fun. Have a great day too! 🎉
In the late 1970's - early 1980's a Maverick with a 300 six raced in the semi late division at my local dirt circle track. Was very competitive against the field of Chevy 350 Camaros, had some wins. Far from stock though.
I just started my first swap and I am recording it and putting it on RUclips. I am swapping a Ls3/4L80 in her. I've only done 4 or 5 short videos. I'm doing it for my Grandsons in case they would like to try something similar. My channel is my name.
I am brand new to the videos. I am still in the scared recording faze. But I'll get there. I want to do all sorts of swaps. Ls, Hemi, 5 oh, inline 300 turbo 5 speed, I have alot of ideas. I know it's going to take time. Alot of time. If I can get this going where I can start making money and get a shop. I'm going to build some sick Vics. I Love the Vics. But this is my first. I just started the videos a few days ago. But I want to do step by step. So others can follow if they want. I like your channel brother. Or brothers lol. I have so many ideas but like the rest of us so little time and money. But if we keep it going we will get there. Thank you brother.

Yeah man, I love it. So durable and tough.
@@RocketGarageServiceGM should have stayed with the inline 6.

I got a rusty 89 300 5 speed that needs the computer swapped, still runs but poorly right now.
That is tight! Why did you lock out any advance on the dist? That is giving away free horsepower.

You got a nice truck! I like the early more-square bodies like this.
Sweet conversion! I have a similar fantasy about putting a slant six in my 720...
What is a 720? I assume a mopar of some sort? Or it this a Datsun? I had a 1971 Datsun 521 as my first truck.
Never saw that swap before, nice job torque monster.👍.
Great swap. I was disappointed Chevrolet/GMC didn't put their awesome 4.2 inline 6 in any pickups. Would have bought one.
I know right. A 4.2 is a bucket list swap for me. Just can't come up with the perfect combo.

Yeah, you can make it work. I am glad you like the video! Thank-you for the comment!!!
Very slow! It might dominate Sesame Street!
I've been thinking about doing a Ford 300 turbo in a 03' Crown Vic.
That would be so AWESOME!!!. I 100% support this. I called Uncle Jimmy to tell him, about this comment.
Now that would be pretty cool!
Look up the Maverick from Massachusetts that used an internally stock 300 I6 and a literal dump truck turbo. It’s running 10’s!
@ByronTexas WOW!!!!!
From what I've read the t-5 had mechanical cable up into the mid 90s in the Mustangs.
Hopefully @Jimmy Bradley will respond. He has a lot of time researching.

Im doing the exact same thing! For the motor mount beside de sbc mount what is the mount on the bloc
The part that bolts to the block angles the motor mounts and places them in the position as they would be on a v8. In relation to the bell housing.
I have a 1965 gmc truck with a inline 6 it’s a 250 will it fit in a 1991 s10
Yes but it will be a lot cooler in that ‘65
The truck in the video belongs to Pastime (in the comment), it is cool, and different. The inline 6 is tight, but it does fit.
