Not many people would appreciate the sound of a straight 6 but dang it brings back good memories of reliability and a vehicle that would rot off the frame and the engine would still keep going.
There are plenty of modern cars that will rot out before the drive train quits. Early 2000's Mazda's come to mind.... Not because they're uber reliable, but because they rot out so bad!! I have a Prius with 220k miles and just dropped about $400 on new parts because the frame is, yes, rotting the fark out.
Dude, aint much that's more sweet sounding and a blast to drive than a straight 6 with split manifolds n cherry bombs hat same in my ratrod 55 Chevy door!
In Brazil we have the Opala. It has a 250 inline 6, wich has 170hp. With 3 weber carburators and a little stroke, those bad boys could pass 300hp! Im proud of this.
In America we put Rock and roller lifters, big cans, header, and an intake fit for a 4bbl. Although it's rare to see over 250 without boost. That stroke does wonders (gigity)
70K views! I never imagined the amount of interest this old car would generate. Thanks so much for the kind words and the love. Sadly, I had to sell this car a while back due to financial struggles. It was a very tough decision, but the guy who bought it regularly updates me when he goes to car meets or does any work to it, so I feel better knowing someone who loves it (and seems dedicated to keeping the six banger!) is now enjoying it.
I have a question, i just got my first car a 63 biscayne 4 door with what i think is a 230 but could be a 250 with this build how much power where you pushing and how bad was your mpg after the cam, i was thinking of camming it but dont want to kill the mpg being the only other vehicles i have access to are 350 4x4s and ones built so 8 miles to the gallon. If you cant remeber no biggie just wondering
Im 55 back in high school all we had round here was wood haulers we would drag race them and the chevy 250 and ford 300 dodge slant we got sum good power out them

My first car was a 66 Biscayne with a 250 six and a powerglide. I paid $250 for it in the mid 90s. I can still remember how the interior smelled like wet cardboard when it was raining out, even after 20 plus years.
@@docsockem . There are a Hugh number of these engines 250 in use in Brazil. Trucks from 50s, my car Opala produced 1968 to 1992, my other car called Omega 1995 to 1998, and Silverado van
Nice ride - I drive a 1977 Camaro 250 inline 6 With a 3 speed auto as my daily driver. It’s a totally original car in great condition and I couldn’t bring myself to ruin it by swapping out the 6 so I ended up keeping it all standard. I’ve grown to really appreciate the old 250 straight 6 and it seems extremely reliable despite being painfully slow. Wish it was a bit more of a revving engine but as I understand it these engines make most of their power in the low to mid range RPMs so respond better to a more gradual acceleration... I might opt for some subtle upgrades to improve the performance but as it’s a daily my main priority is reliability.
Loive your ride!!! I'm doing up a chevy 250 for my 36 plymouth coupe. Balanced internals. 40 over flat tops. BBC roller rockers. Stainless valves. Lump port. Long tubes. Offenhauser trip carb. Havent picked a cam yet though.
Too cool. I had a 68 Chevelle 4 door with a 235 straight 6 and 2 speed power glide. Kid in the next town over had exact car with the 250. We both ran the wheels off them. Best high school car. Had steel wheels with small center hubcaps. I put raised letter tires on. Little car looked sharp. My first Chevelle and few years later bought a 70 Chevelle Malibu which I put big block in. Still have it 34 years later.
Yeah, heck yeah! Great build, great sound! Thanks for sharing with us! And if you need to look under the hood(bonnet), you can see what you are doing! Man, oh man, LOVE THAT SOUND!, coming and going. Sounds so much better than any ole Honda with a $120.00 muffler! Love the wheels and look! Very clean!
WOW, I love Chevy 6's, Couldnt Tell If It was a Blair Or a Scayne car But Lover the More door Design With White 8" Rally's & The baby Cheery Bombs Made the sound with Full length Pipes !!! :) & Good To see So many 6 Lovers post here! 6's In Past were Considered Reliability Basic But Good. Thanx
I always loved straight sixes, and have watched this video a hundred times. The sound is awesome! I absolutely need to get a blue '67(?) Biscayne with widened white steelies, a twofifty and three on the tree! Super cool car!
The plane overlays got a chuckle out of me! Interesting sounding engine. Does not sound like inline 6 engines I'm a bit more familiar with like the 2jz and rb26. Nice sound though.
Turbo mufflers sound great on a six that deep sound. not a big fan of glass packs on one sounds like blowing through a broken balloon nice engine great job
I can dream of having a 4door sedan with the 230 250 or 292 inline six cylinder engine with any Transmission and any Rear end with 3.50 gears with limited slip deferential
Love the nice sound. nothing like the Chevy inline 6 with dual glass packs or cherry bombs. It beats the v8's sound, but it is a matter of personal preference. You had to own one.
In Brazil we have a car with this engine with 4.1 liters. Is the Chevrolet Opala. Is the most popular Muscle Car in this country. Some drag racing Opala have 3000hp with a larga turbocharger running the flat 1/4 at less 7 seconds.
Steve N. Completely rebuilt engine bored 30 over and the compression is supposed to be getting bumped up a little. Clifford performance twin carb intake manifold with shorty headers and twin Weber 38 carbs. Topped off with a slightly choppy cam. I’d like to see your nova
Would love to see people try that with inline 4s, maybe even inline 3s! 😂 If you put a header on 2 cylinders for the left exhaust pipe and one for 1 cylinder on the right one you’d actually have an uneven sounding exhaust and for sure a nice rumble. Especially if you put the exhaust pipes further apart, maybe side pipes? 😂 🤦♂️
This sounds so amazing! I agree with Father Brown. Not enough Inline 6 builds!Rock On Man !! I had a 76 Nova 250 I6 with 3 spd manual. Very very hard to kill those I6s. It’s sounds like caca
My dad's friend finally parked my dad's 1981 F150, about 2000. It had 450,000 on the odometer, and a bed that had fallen down over the tires. JfromOH
flat love it. think id finish it off with a final gear high as made since
I like the fact that you chose to use and mod the 250 instead of adding a couple more cylinders.
Sounds better than any of the v6 or straight 6 motors they could ever make today
Nothing wrong with that
Dude, aint much that's more sweet sounding and a blast to drive than a straight 6 with split manifolds n cherry bombs hat same in my ratrod 55 Chevy door!
Got a v8 can tho lol
I'm a sucker for this kinda stuff too.
Sounds like a mix between a classic Jaguar, a Spitfire and a P-51 Mustang flying by, and a Nissan R33 GT-R altogether. Chevy Inline 6s are super cool.
I Wish my r33 skyline sounded this sick
