    You should try the 2x4 method, saves a lot of time on the front struts and avoids you having to replace some of the TTY bolts.

    • @SaltyDogPerformance
      @SaltyDogPerformance  3 года назад +2

      2x4 method is not safe and I will not promote it. The way I do it is how VW techs would do it or any other reputable shop.

    Great video. Did you have to replace any of the hardware? I think some of them torqued to yield? I just picked up the B16 so I want to make sure I have everything for the install

    • @SaltyDogPerformance
      @SaltyDogPerformance  4 года назад +1

      Yes alot of them are torque to yield, but I have done at least 10 of these cars suspension upgrades and have never replaced a single bolt or nut. They are all still going strong for years.

    Good informative video but you definitely should have used the 2x4 method for the fronts. Everyone else watching this please google mk7 2x4 strut method. It will save you hours. No removing the axle bolt, knuckle nuts, rotor, caliper....etc. I like how much detail you use when explaining what your doing. Keep the R videos coming please. Subscribed.

      The 2x4 is a dangerous method that I will not promote. Sure, it can be done that way, but it is unsafe.

    Great video! I ride a golf 7 gti with dcc, bought the car with lowering springs and stock shocks but the ride is very bumpy, will the bilstein b16 damptronic a good choice for my car? And should i also buy new strut mounts rear and front, stock or also from bilstein?

    • @SaltyDogPerformance
      @SaltyDogPerformance  3 года назад

      If you can get these coil overs for a good price they are a very nice purchase. Me personally I like coilovers that I can adjust more than the 3 settings in the DCC. I had B16 PSS10 fully adjustable coils on my personal R. The only downside to them is you have to buy the DCC delete kit. Those can range anywhere fro $400-500 a set.

    • @SaltyDogPerformance

    Hey Barrett! We live in Florida near West Palm Beach. My husband owns an R but is not on Social Media. He found your video very informative! He asked me to reach out to ask if you were able to eventually set the F/R ride height at 25.5”/25.75”? Thanks again!

    • @SaltyDogPerformance
      @SaltyDogPerformance  3 года назад +1

      Yes. Adjusting the height on the coilovers was pretty easy on this vehicle. The car is still riding on them and all is well with it. Thank your husband for watching! I appreciate it!

      @@SaltyDogPerformance Hey Barrett ..thank you for the response to Diana! Much appreciated. This is Robert the other half with the R. After seeing your awesome video I called up my shop to order a set of B16’s. Their Bilstein rep claims the “minimum” height drop for the B16’s is 30mm; almost 1.2” for the F/R. That would be way below the 1/2’ (or 25.5” from fender to ground) you set below the front stock height. Like you I believe the optimum road height for the suspension is around 1/2-3/4” off stock...using 19” wheels etc. Before I pull the trigger on such an expensive purchase I just wanted to circle up again to confirm your height values. Not sure why Bilstein would be so off on this because the proof is there in your video and hence why what you do in your vlogs is so important! Thanks again for illuminating the way on this car!

      @@dianamiret261 Hi there from rainy UK, this reply is probably a bit late but just in case your husband is still looking at bilstein coilovers, I have done a fair bit of research on these kits and am having some fitted to my 7.5R this week . . .the bilstein rep doesn’t know his product, the coilover adjustment is 30 - 50mm however this relates to the base golf model, and doesn’t take into account the 20mm that the 7.5R is already lower than the base model. . therefore the actual ride height adjustments of the B14/B16 kits for the Golf 7.5R is 10 - 30mm 👍😎
