    I rarely comment on youtube video but as a new diabetic your videos are so helpful to me, most of the time I have symptoms like extreme hunger, shaky and sweating. But last weekend I was checking my blood sugar before taking my meal and I was shocked because sugar level was extremely low, the reading on glucometer was 38, and I didn't feel any symptoms. since then I started to carry some hard candies to treat my hypoglycemia since due to corona I am unable to find glucose tablets.

    I know what you mean about the honey. I love it but not like that. Having said that I carry a couple of sachets of honey in my hand bag that I got from the buffet breakfast table at a hotel I staying at recently. I normally use Jellybeans usually 6. And a bag of those is really cheap. The little cartons of juice are good too. Followed by a glass of milk, half an Apple or a piece of bread to prevent spiking. Or dry crackers I carry in a sealed plastic satchel if I'm out and about. Another awesome video Michelle. Love it👍

    I am not diabetic but I got brain fog and food coma after lunch almost everyday. I tried eating sugary candies and even protein bars, they gave me energy for a short while and then I would crash hard. It was a never ending cycle.
    I watched Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Berry’s videos and figured it out. It was my insulin spikes caused by carbs. Knowing that my body could produce enough glucose internally, I switched to Keto and intermittent fasting. No more hypoglycemia for me!
    I got out of that never ending cycle of low blood sugar and got my life back!

      It’s important to wear those red medical bracelets when you know you are going to be in public or gone it’s what I wear. Insulin can probably kill you since it just lowers your blood sugar even more. Luckily for us paramedics will test your blood on the spot and will probably know your sugar levels are dangerously low.

    Yes to the video on how to use the glucagon so I can send it to my mom!
    Anything below 5.0 is low for me, don't know why but even being at 4.9 can wake me up from my sleep and I'll shake like crazy. My go to for lows is juice! I have the dex4's but I have to be careful while eating them because I tend to choke lol it's so weird. One of the odd things that I get when I'm low is that pretty much all food tastes good, I'm a picky eater so if food I would normally never eat starts to look good I know to check my sugar.

    Love your videos! Do you ever get "fake lows"? sometimes I'll be around 80 (4.4), and I'll feel low. If so, what do you do? Do you treat or push through it? When I'm at work, I tend to treat because I just don't have time to not feel ok, but then I always rebound and spike..even if I only eat 1 glucose tab. It's so frustrating!

I'll feel really hungry and low, and be in perfect range. I also tend to treat them as well, but will not have as many carbs as I would for treating an actual low. Because I have had low BGL for years I have ‘hypo unawareness’ which has plagued my life (it is much better under control now). I understand the symptoms many describe but I was wondering has anybody experienced a kinda weird thing that goes on in your brain or thinking. I have experienced it many times and I am sure it’s not just physiological but my brain seems to work differently it sees and understands reality differently (I could maybe imagining that’s what it is) sometimes it is nice and other times not so much depending on the circumstances I think. But a rarely hear others mention this symptom. Because I have ‘hypo unawareness’ one of the ways I check myself is by monitoring how my ‘thinking’ is going and if the rate of decline isn’t too fast I can detect going low fairly easily, though I do have a Dexcom with an alarm now so that saves me some grief. Anyway I will be interested to hear if other people have had this experience. This video was posted 4 years ago so I won’t be waiting up for a response. Be good, stay happy 😊

    Sometimes I take a tablespoon full of sugar put it in a small cup and add just barely enough water to make it into a liquidish form. Drink it then add a tiny bit more water if needed for any sugar that’s left in the cup.
    Sugar is something that everyone has in their house. And it was used by my roommate once to save my life once. I don’t even remember anything because I had blacked out! Luckily I was able to drink it and came to.

    I'm a recent T2 (dx about a year ago), and I thought I would have these uncontrolled lows, but my good friend who's a T1 told me I needed to worry about highs, not lows. Turns out that while it doesn't happen often, I *do* go low once in awhile, particularly if I'm walking around a lot/doing fairly strenuous activity at work. For that, I keep one of those big bottles of glucose tabs in my locker, and I go check anytime I feel like I might be going low. A few times I would start sweating like crazy, go test, and I'd be anywhere from low 60's to low 70's (3.3 - 3.9'ish). One time, a coworker told me my face was really pale, and I was again in the low 60's.
    It's weird, sometimes the low affects me pretty hard, like the above examples, other times I can be in the mid 60's and feel completely normal. Once in awhile, I even wake up low (mid to high 70's - 4.2-4.4), so I always keep my bottle of glucose tabs at home, as well as something sweet in the fridge, if I don't feel like the tabs that day.
    Great video, thanks for posting :)

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  7 лет назад +1

      Hey Bryan! I'm really glad to hear from a T2 about lows, because I honestly don't know a lot about T2 diabetes. I also find that sometimes I can really feel a low well, and other times not at all. I think it maybe has something to do with how quickly your BG levels drop.
      Thanks for watching :)!!

    • @BuayaGuy
      @BuayaGuy 7 лет назад +1

      Not a doctor (far from it), but this is what I've learned - T2 is where the cells are resistant to accepting insulin, basic exercise makes the cells more willing to take insulin (even just walking/riding a bike, doesn't *have* to be bodybuilding at a gym.) I take Metformin, which is pretty much the front-line drug for T2s. It does a few things: 1> Makes the cells more sensitive to insulin (lowered insulin resistance), 2> It decreases the amount of sugar that you absorb when you eat, and 3> (and one reason I think I get lows) It inhibits production of glucose by the liver.
      So, while Metformin in and of itself doesn't cause hypos, if you exert yourself a lot, the liver isn't gonna just send out glucose when you start going low, or there may be a significantly delayed reaction where it's better to treat the low than to wait to come back up...
      I actually always wondered why T1s would go low in the first place...wouldn't the liver send out the stored glucose when you go low?
      Hope this helps :)

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  7 лет назад +2

      That's a really good explanation of T2, and why T2 diabetics go low.
      I found a really good paper explaining hypoglycaemia in T1 diabetics: diabetes.diabetesjournals.org/content/diabetes/59/10/2333.full.pdf
      In summary, since T1's all administer exogenous insulin, they do not respond to hypoglycaemia the same way as they would to insulin produced by the pancreas. So T1's fail to produce glucagon as well. It's in the first page of this article if you want more details!

    • @BuayaGuy
      @BuayaGuy 7 лет назад +1

      Michelle Lord I've been wondering about that for a really long time...So synthetic insulin works the same way as the insulin you would produce, but the liver doesn't see it the same way, so I guess it never gets the "signal" to stop the insulin and release more glucose...

    I'm so confused do you get diabetes when your blood sugar is low or high??

      You don't get diabetes from low or high blood sugar. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks your pancreas and you can no longer produce insulin. Since type 1 diabetics don't have insulin, they cannot regulate their blood sugar, causing highs and lows.
