    Is there any chance of an update to this video to look at full data logging (throttle position, etc) and using that data? My bike has the latest Ducati DDA+ GPS but it cannot export as CSV so it cannot be used for video overlays, so I was wondering about options for getting full data. It would be really useful for me to be able to see on a video when I am really fully open with the throttle, braking, etc.

    I have been recording track day on-board since the first Go Pro camera was available back in 2007. They have improved a lot in that time. Only within the last year and a half did I become aware of the high quality sensors in the newer models. I used to have to combine data from a stand alone GPS logger and video. Now that's all done for us. Really great to get the benefit of your experience. Thank you!

    Cracking video Sylvain - didn’t even realise you did this stuff on RUclips. I’ve just bought another track bike having been off the track for a while now, and thought I needed something like an Aim Solo 2 just to log the data. Didn’t even realise my multiple GoPro’s could do it! Thanks for the info dude. Legend 👊🏻

Looks like I'm getting a Go pro! Just regarding phone GPS, it's not about the frequency but the number of frequencies supported. Typically this has only been a single band which leads to multipath errors, ie not particularly accurate. Some phones now support dual-band GPS which makes them much more accurate, down to centimeters in most cases.

    You know what would be really cool... if we could get a high resolution view of the track map, and overlay that with the actual line that the rider is taking around the track. I think it would be possible to do this if you combine the GPS data and the video file, and use computer vision and deep learning to identify the position of the bike relative to the edges of the track. I think it would be a very good tool for training.

    @Sylvain Best thing since Netflix. Just binge-watched all your english content. I think a video catered to those with older bikes without or with very little technology like TCS, Quickshifters or auto-blippers could be quite interesting as well! Just a pure man vs. machine situation.
    In a previous video you mentioned how important it is to downshift as you brake before you roll off the throttle at the same time. I would have to be operating the clutch too with my 04 zx6r (no slipper clutch).Normally I try to rev-match when riding, but I guess I should skip rev-matching when gearing down aggressively right? Someone else maybe?
    Thanks!

      The number of video files created by the GoPro doesn’t matter. Once they are uploaded to the RaceChrono app, the app will transcode everything (video footage and data overlay) into a new video file which can then be uploaded direct to RUclips or whatever.

    Very informative thanks! What would people recommend for instant lap timing??🤔

    • @SylvainGuintoli
      @SylvainGuintoli  4 года назад +2

      Not tried any on my GSX-R. This issue is that lap timing is not allowed on track days. In Motogp most Teams use 2D.

    • @lonpfrb
      @lonpfrb 4 года назад +2

      I would suggest Vbox Sport with iPhone app for display of current and predictive lap times. Race logic are serious engineers so make good kit.
      Bear in mind that many circuits have different insurance for race or track days so may not allow timing equipment. Obviously phone screens could be off when you see the marshals or scrutineer...
      Good quality mounts with backup are a must, just as Sylvain shows.

    @Sylvain Guintoli. I have heard the phrase "always on the gas or always on the brakes, never coasting" This makes me wonder as I have previously been told on tuition days coming off of a straight into a long sweeping right hander (Donnington) to build up all my speed on the straight and to come off the throttle going through the bend in order to get the bike to drop and get my knee down and then back on the gas as soon as possible to drive out. I was told this as I was previously continuing to accelerate through this corner and was unable to get my knee down as that action was causing the bike to stand up. My question is, is the advice I was told about coming off the throttle through the corner with no brakes correct as this would be coasting I suppose?
    Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks

    • @kingbourbon8618
      @kingbourbon8618 4 года назад

      And with the same point at Melbourne, should I always have either brakes on coming into the corner and then transition into some positive (if small) amount of throttle, or should the braking all be done and then as with the previous advice I was given come off of both lean into the bend without either and then pick up the throttle as soon as possible to drive out?

    Does anyone know how to use RaceChrono? I have go-pro videos that I'd like to add the telemetry data on the videos but I cannot find any tutorials on how to do this.

    You should have a hidden mic somewhere else then merged the sound file to avoid windnoise.

    Thanks for the video! I was looking for this specifically. Question, if I run 2 different GoPros on the bike at the same time (with GPS ON) can I use this date overlay on top of both of the video's footage? Thanks!
