Not sure what you’re planning for a payment for your drivers but I would consider that you set something up that would give them some minimum and give them a bonus for additional work that way you both will be making money! You need a plan to cover your expenses and then they can make extra income for working harder !

You may not intend to be doing a tutorial, or teaching a lesson, but you are definitely teaching by example. Even an old guy like me learn from the example thst you have and continue to set. Please be safe in all of your travels and adventures. Much love and prayers from my family to yours.🙏💜

Just my opinion but for what it's worth you should be netting 200k or more a yr grossing 300k to 350k and if you're not figure out something else. Also my grandfather taught me growing up in this business never go even numbers on buying trucks. Always odd numbers until you can own outright over 10 units. So go from 1 to 3 the. 3 to 5. The logic is 2 trucks and if 1 goes down 1 truck cannot sustain bills for 2 trucks. So get a 3rd. If one goes down 2 trucks keep 3 afloat till the 3rd is up n running again. But you're doing OK young man. Keep trying. Keep learning. Keep working hard and working SMART. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAM.

The only thing is idling keeps the fluid pumping in the transmission and wondering if it’ll make the fluid get to hot in it not moving the truck??? Hopefully you’ll be able to get that APU to eliminate that issue if it is an issue for the transmission to get to hot while idling???? I’m hoping you’ll be able to show us the truck you’re going to be looking 👀 at when you get to see it!!!????

The people that say you can't make money at Landstar are the one's that never had to work on their own. Even if the worked on a job they have to be told what to do.They are not used to working as directed without a supervisor. I think that's why they have trouble making money. For them want Landstar to hold their hand. Be Safe.

There is way better companies then Landstar out there lol speak for yourself, Landstar is an ok place, but with shady brokers and not many customers wanting to work with them does make it tough at times. I left to come to a company same outline, load board and a way higher percentage. Don't diss people like that if you don't know. You've probably never even worked at Landstar.

This rates won’t. Be the same on spot market in dry. Have something in place and not just rely on spot. Being OO is great but not for everybody. Those that can do and those that can’t go back. I start OO after 6 months and haven’t looked back. Learned a lot by trail and error. Would say build 50k and alllll the brokers you can before you leave and don’t leave to do VAN as OO under NO circumstance! Salute my guy

Think you nailed a part many dont understand. Business is all about how handle the bad days. Anyone can handle the good but how you handle the set backs will determine if you make it.
As for revenue, it blows my mind how someone can say if its enough or not. No one knows how much revenue a business needs to make but those involed. What is enough for one may not be enough for another. Like you said its all about rev vs exp. To many came into this industry at a time with high rates but also came in with high expenses and can't sustain it anymore.

I have been with Landstar for 5 months, and I am now -$30,000, yes, I'm negative 30 thousand dollars. Truck goes from shop to shop to shop, but I bought it 5 months ago (when I started at Landstar) a 2020 Peterbilt with 370k miles. I have had the worst luck. Yes, I do have the NTP extended warranty. Every single thing that has broke on my truck has NOT been covered. Now it has a transmission problem that caused the truck not to go into gear (automatic). It cleared itself after 'rebooting' the truck. Took it to the shop 2 weeks ago, and they can't find the problem because now the transmission is working just fine. I'm at the end of my rope...I will get it out of the shop today, and get a load for Monday, maybe, just maybe I can start running.

    • @the_mylilpwny

This way he can park the fld and get work done while driving the new truck is another bonus. You have to look at it like they are separate businesses that work together. What makes sense for one may not make sense in the other. New truck right now would be for trucking business, fld right now would be for content.

He’d probably agree with you, if that fuel island was busy at the time. I’m guessing he chose a mostly empty fuel island for the quick fix, instead of wasting more time finding a parking spot, backing into the spot, then getting his tools and working. He just took advantage of the situation. That’s not unreasonable.

My trucks deleted. 😅🤣😂 06 so all it really had was the egr. But it's deleted straight 8's no muffler. C15 ACERT CAT twin turbo which I was a Lil skiddish about but she's made it 1.5 million miles all local work was rebuilt at 1 million by cat platinum rebuild has held up nicely the next rebuilt should I need one before retirement will be melting my block down using that serial number for new casted block on new content motor and I'll run er out till I'm ready to call it. I'm 36 yrs in the seat my grandfather had 55 yrs I'm not sure I catch equal or surpass that but I'm shooting for 40 yrs first if I reach that I'll go yr by yr as to if I stay in it. It's getting less fun but it's still enjoyable. And so far they're still letting me do it with no restrictions no sleep study bs no BP meds etc etc. I've been fortunate.
