    Thank you so much for acknowledging your privilege as a mother. I think it is so easy for people to mom shame when they don't realize how hard motherhood can be when you don't have a lot of the "help" that is really a necessity, such as time, finances, family, a hands on dad, etc. So thank you for that 💕.

    Thank you and Stephen for acknowledging the literal bar on the ground that dad's have. I birthed an 8lb 6oz baby with zero medication (first baby) and almost died and the nurses fawned over my husband because he was holding the baby, taking care of me and because he laid the baby on the scale to be weighed. 😳 The nurse said in her 6 years there, a dad had never put their own baby on the scale. I know it made my husband feel good, but I'm like come onnn 😳😬 we gotta do better. Babies aren't made alone. It was really tough to be in a hospital where I was treated like ok, good job women literally do this everyday but my husband was treated like a king. 🙄

    When Steve was talking about the stuff targeted to “mommy’s” I was like yes! I am a manager at a swim school and we do classes for babies as young as 4 months and my team always referred it to a mommy and me class but watching the classes over time I realize it’s mostly dad’s and grandparents going in the water with the baby. So I told my team we need to stop saying mommy and me and be more inclusive because you don’t want to detour someone because they don’t feel included.

    • @alexes1381
      @alexes1381 2 года назад +3

      That awesome! My husband is so involved but I could see him looking for swim classes online (something we will be doing very soon with our 5 month old and somthing he has expressed being excited about before i even got pregnant) and seeing "mommy" in the description and be discouraged or not want to go assuming he will be the only dad and would be looked at funny.

    When Steven said it felt like he would get a high-five for changing a diaper it reminded me of this : With my first son, my grandmother was flabbergasted to see my husband changing diapers. Apparently although my grandmother had 4 children with her husband he had never changed a single diaper. My husband got a lot of praise about that diaper change she witnessed. It was very comical but also irritating to see how low the expectations for dads can be.

    • @emogrl1000
      @emogrl1000 2 года назад +5

      I agree my husbands grandmother had 3 kids and we were at their house one day and my husband changed 4 diapers and she made the comment that my husband changed more diapers while we were there than her husband did for all of their kids. We were also at the mall one day and I wanted to go into a store so my husband sat on the bench and fed our baby. He had so many women stop and told him what a good job he was doing but when I did the same thing no one even gave me a second look. The bar is really on the ground.

    thank you for allowing grace to make her own decisions with food when she’s older. that’s not a choice I’ve gotten and it just really means a lot. as for what age is old enough? you’ll know when you know! one of my friends decided to go vegetarian when she was 5 and she’s still sticking with it 13 years later. never tell grace she’s “too young” to be making these kinds of decisions :)

    I am due in May, My husband also gets 13 weeks of paternity leave, and I don’t even get a single day of maternity leave. My workplace defends themselves saying oh we are a small company it’s very rare if ever that a small company gives maternity leave. Truly horrible !!

    Also on the involved dad thing its so true the stereotype that is there. My husband even made a comment when we were at urgent care they only addressed me, mom, never asked my husband directly any questions and never looked his way once a question was asked even though he was just as involved in answering them all even at daycare the teachers say I'm so lucky to have a dad to help out with drop off (he drops out son off and I pick him up). He said it doaent bother him at all but definitely something he notices as well when people talk to him about things vs me they speak to him differently and as if they are dumbing it down. Even though he is a very involved dad and always has been! Even in the very beginning with breastfeeding he offered and willingly got up every feeding to go change him and bring him to me for our feeds and if it was a particularly long feed he would take over putting him back down. We split the work 50/50 and people are always so amazed by that he even get comment and 2nd looks when he's at the grocery store by himself. Like "where's mommy?!"

    Welcome back, Sierra!! Stephen's perspective of your labor & delivery was so heart warming!!! My husband's story was very similar. After what felt like a traumatic birth, once things quieted down in our recovery room, he just started BALLING. He too felt like he had to be strong and keep it together for both of us during the whole labor and delivery and all the emotions definitely caught up to him.

For example, presumably she is cute and happy when she's eating. But she's also probably super messy, and so you don't show us that, because it could be embarrassing to her going forward.
    I am so impressed by the balance you strike, but also the help and advice you always want to share (I don't have a baby to feed, but your new passion for sharing recipes has been SO helpful)

    I am honestly so glad that you acknowledged the uninvolved dad stereotype. I have been a single mom since the beginning. The most involved that my son's dad was was in the very beginning because I had to have an unplanned c section. After that, it was all on me. We finally separated this past July, and it still took until November to start taking our son every other weekend. Now he gets all the praise for being such an involved dad and I get guilt tripped for going out. So I don't. I don't go out. I stay home by myself when I don't have my son. It's kind of to the point where I am very surprised when I see dad's that are actually willingly doing things with their kids.

    I have 2 kids and im so touched out some days, its taken me 7yrs to realise i cant pour from an empty cup. Parenting is so different for everyone and every child. Both my kids are polar opposites of each other so certain things have to be dealt with differently for each child. You are both fab.
