I own 2023 F450 Reg. cab 2WD with standard engine. I carry 5500lb slide in camper in the bed and pull a 7000lb trailer. Used to use 2019 F350 Reg. cab 4WD with standard engine. The F450 handles this load way better due to width and larger wheel/tires. Also the F450 4:30 axle over the F350 3:55 is huge difference. And IMHO the F450 rides smoother empty than the F350 did! For my use the F450 is much superior in drive dynamics and comfort. This truck has 6307lb in bed capacity. I am extremely pleased with this truck!

The sharper steering angle enabled by the wider axle is certainly useful. Heavier medium-duty trucks can turn even sharper - up to 53 degrees is common with beam axles, and independent suspensions can go even further.

@richarddubois5529 GM trucks up to 3500 don't have a wider-track variant. The GM Class 4 and Class 5 medium-duty with a wider front axle is the Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD, which are built by Navistsr (International); these are similar in design to a Ford F-650 (not F-450 or F-550). Chevrolet says they have "A wheel cut of up to 50 degrees", which is much sharper than the smaller trucks.

I got very lucky last year when I found and bought my 2022 F450. The dealership just unloaded it that morning, washed it then stuck it on their website and the guy said they've had no less than 50 calls on it within a couple hours. We made the deal that day and drove 6 hours to pick her up 2 days later. I have to say the dealership was fair in my opinion, it was very close to MSRP but they gave me 500 bucks less than what I paid for my 19 F350 SRW as a trade. Even plowing with this thing is incredible with. the turning radius. Fuel mileage is meh with the 430 gears and average 12'ish around town and on the interstate Ive got it up to 19.9mpg unloaded at 67mph, 67 seems to be it's sweet spot even towing our 44ft 5th wheel which is about 14k loaded I get right around the high 10's low 11's mpg. One thing I never thought of when I bought it was the price to replace the tires!...I'm fine with the Conti's that come with it but damn! best price Ive seen on those were just under 400 each. This truck is a beast for sure, it stops and handles our 5th wheel so much better and feel a lot more relaxed towing it.

They are beautiful trucks. Having said that, the problem with these great trucks is that they can be hacked and all of your personal and financial information and otherwise, is open. Another thing is that although these trucks are able to tow incredible wrights,, the trucks themselves are too small for the amount of weight that they are capable of towing. Don't get me wrong, I love the torque numbers, but I would prefer about 800hp for the weight of the truck. And I personally would tow no more than about 18,000lbs but with the same power numbers. To me it balances it out a little bit more for my comfort. Super power and medium weight.

I am glad you brought up the front tire wear because I rotated just my front tires and was wondering what was going on. I have aftermarket wheels and tires with Carli pintop 2.5 leveling kit. So I was wondering what would cause it. It's my first dually and I daily drive it and it's awesome.

Cant find a 350 either in a dually that the dealer has not tagged as a loaner and is now selling as used with 500 miles on it for 30k more than sticker. Every dealer i have spoken to has also said if i want any trim higher than a Lariat they cannot even order one at the moment and probably wont be able to until the 2024 model year is released.
I gave up on the Ford and have a deposit on a 2024 GMC Denali 3500 instead that i should actually see next week.

First off, I bought a new 2016 F165. So I like Ford trucks. I think it's wrong to front about being able to tow 40k lbs when you have to buy a 450 regular cab to do it. Most trucks you see on the road are 4 door. I was also pissed to find out my F165 can only tow 5,000 lbs. I've towed my 96 4x4 Tahoe on a Uhaul trailer. I had enough power towing 7,300 lbs. The problem was I could not driver faster than 60 mph. The truck would start to move around..

These modern trucks all have plenty of power to get a heavy load moving. It's more about how it handles the load at highway speeds, keeps it under control, and slows it down that matters. And if it can do that all day without burning anything up. An F-450 is a capable truck but a 40,000 lb trailer is a bad idea. 15-20k trailer no problem...typical gooseneck trailer with a decent load on it. Heavier than that these small bore engines and light duty automatic transmissions are being pushed too hard and wont hold up hundreds of thousands of miles. Right tool for the job as they say.

  • @thetallmanspodcastreacts

Insane anyone would tow this amount with a “light duty truck”. I couldn’t imagine trying to drive this with a load like that down the highway for 6 hours in the wind. I understand a controlled environment but on the open road would be a little crazy. Just an opinion.

All SuperDuty 4X4 pickups have the same front axle capacity (5600 pounds) and the same suspension design, but the F-450 does have a wider front axle so it is heavier.
The F-350 and F-450 4X4 have the same maximum rear axle capacity (9,900 lb), and the F-350 actually has a higher 4X2 rear GAWR available (10,300 vs 9,900 lb), despite the heavier axle in the F-450.

@industrialiron90 I did not say that all SuperDuty trucks have the same front GAWR; that would include both 4X2 and 4X4, and would include everything from an F-250 to an F-750. I said all *SuperDuty 4X4 pickups* which is just the F-250, F-350, and F-450 pickup (which is not the same as an F-450 chassis-cab).

Thank you for mentioning that a 450 can turn better than a 250. I was thinking of a 350 crew cab long bed SRW, but when I built out a 450 the same way on Ford’s website it wasn’t that much more expensive. I was curious if the 350 I was looking at could turn better than a 450 because of where I put my trailer when not in use. Maybe it is partially cause of your channel, but the 450 has become my dream truck so I don’t see a reason why I shouldn’t get one since the price difference isn’t that much.

I mean, that makes no sense... The number designation has always meant payload specifically. I.E. a "half ton" or F-150 pick up can carry 1000 pounds of payload, and a "one ton" or F-350 can carry 2000 pounds of payload on its back. Those designations originated many, many years ago and payloads have definitely increased. A F-450 should mean it can tote 1.25 tons on it back, theoretically. (Which would, again, be higher in 2023.)

  • @brianb-p6586
    @brianb-p6586 Год назад

@1:33 "eight and a half foot bed"? The long box of a Ford SuperDuty is 98.1 inches long, or 8.175 feet, at the floor... regardless of model (F-250, F-350, F-450). There is no "8 1/2 foot" bed.
But yes, for maximum payload and towing the truck's body weight needs to be minimized, which means a regular cab.

This will replace my 2020 F350 6.7 Lariat and will be my daily driver. It will be my toy. I do not have a trailer to pull. LOL. Lastly, can you let the Ford guys give more input on your questions without cutting them off in 3 seconds or less on each questions?

Can anyone comment on their efforts to get private insurance on these trucks. My experience has been once you get over the 1 ton (350, 3500), most insurance companies won't quote. I've even been told they don't cover over the 10,000 GVWR which was the max 1 ton rate from decades ago. I have a 22,500 rated truck that I have to insure in conjunction with a towable RV in order to have coverage.

If you are really going to tow that much; get a big truck. Peterbilt or something similar

I don’t think anyone is gonna buy one of these to tow that much daily, I think the point is having the capability to do it if you need to occasionally.

40K towing truck I feel is a bit of the marketing department overreach. Will the truck do it, yep! Is it a consumer product, I'm thinking, no. If you are a family of say 3 you can't use this truck. Correct me if i'm wrong, if you are towing that amount of weight you need a CDL; now I could be wrong about that. As a consumer based product for say leisure use it's not really a reality. The 40K demo (Im my eyes) is more a commercial application. The 40K demo think should be housed next to a 550 cab and chassis. What I would like to know, if Ford has discontinued ,or disaster proofed the CP4 fuel pump. Ford has said the new H.O. engines run north of 200 degrees in high stress moments. The death of any diesel engine is heat. I'm interested to see the effects on coolants and lubricants at that temperature. The big thing that worries me is using antifreeze to cool the turbocharger. The next thing these manufactures need to do is pricing. 100k for a 450 that's a bit steep, and it's not just Ford, but all three. Floating a manufactures EV program of the backs of the truck buyer (look at all the leading sales are trucks) is not right! I sure hope and pray that the 23' H.O. and new batch of trucks does well for Ford I really do. Just some of my thoughts, great informative video as always!

Funny, even the Ford experts can’t learn the facts of their trucks. Is it 45 or 47 degrees? 6 or 7 cameras? What a lazy culture in America.
