I wish Canik sold a Rival S barrel separately like they do for their other models. After putting in a 17lb Glock 17 recoil spring and shooting 147gr rounds, I have had zero malfunctions plus it shoots pretty flat. I hate to somehow mess it up by porting it.
I agree with you. Change always involves risk. I am glad I ported mine because it makes the gun in a different class to me. I think Canik will make extra barrels for the s when demand goes down. Play it safe if you feel uncomfortable.
@NoogaMarc To be honest I just shoot blazer 115 or federal 115 brass. Less grain weight bullet is better because it allows more powder in case. I don't shoot expensive plus p or nato. From what I have seen the hotter loads or heavier bullets may keep the gun flatter in some cases, but can still create more felt recoil. I like a combo of soft and flat for competition that is.
Great video, thinking of porting mine. If you don't mind me asking why is the porting not further towards the end of the barrel? Just curious if it's more beneficial.
I just sent the guy the barrel and told him what gun I had. This is what came back. I was afraid it would affect velocity and not work as well. Velocity is not affected much, and it shoots super flat. I can't say which is better. People think if ports are near the end, it is more effective, but forget if it is near the chamber, it has more gas to bleed and longer to bleed gas. I guess the guy knew what he was doing. I really don't think there is a huge difference. The ports are not are far forward as they may look. They are centered mostly, and it is a long barrel.
@bobb8423 Yes, there are advantages in IDPA and some disadvantages. I like that you can run a Ported or comped gun, but it still has to fit in the box.
I don't remember what I said in the video, but I tried to find an extra barrel and could not. After getting ported, I do not know why I would go back. Would be nice to have the barrel just in case.
Nice glad you got it running. I would say let it set outside and get cold one day then run a few mags thought it before the next outdoor IDPA match just to be sure it likes the cold👍🏻👍🏻
Honestly I just shot my rival s for the first time the other day and it felt pretty snappy. Maybe it needs break in or maybe I am not used to the platform yet but it sure seemed snappier than I was anticipated for the weight. Almost felt like I was limp wristing it when I know I wasn’t. Maybe a ported barrel is in my future, but I didn’t think I would need to
@brettbuckmaster5128 I can see that being a possibility for some. The higher bore and heavy slide may contribute to that feeling. Also they put a heavier recoil spring than what's needed most the time. You could try a lighter spring to see if it gives a better recoil sensation.
You think your gun works good take it to a match. This is 100% accurate! I laugh when folks ask me if we are going to do a failure drill. Sure buddy your gun will malfunction any minute now.
@@Heteachethmyhandstowar yep. Some very reliable guns magically take a crap as soon as the timer goes off. It’s like they feel your anxiety 😬 😂. Take an extra gun and just roll with the punches. Thanks for the video!
Beautiful gun! And I love your honesty and transparency about your match.
Thank you. I am not big on deceiving anyone or pretending to be something I am not.

What ammo are running as I assume you are shooting something a little hotter to get the maximum benefit of the porting?

who ported your barrel? What springs are you using? I want to do the same thing to my rival s. I need some details!!
Mac defense ported it and using 13 pound glock 17 guide rod and spring. That's what's been working and will continue to test.
Hey what magwell Is that?
@@jonathanisaac3345 It came with magwell.
In another comment you mentioned trigger spring? What are those! Thanks so much for responding

What division do you run in idpa? And if you don't mind sharing where you your porting done.
Porting was done by MAC Defense in Georgia. I run CO that being Carry Optics. You can have porting in a few divisions.
Much better than USPSA with porting I would be in open division against 38 super open guns. Although we drop mags any place in the course of fire.JK

Who was the guy testing during steel challenge matches? I'll check out more of your videos.
I remember him but never see his videos anymore. Can't remember his channel name. I loved his videos. Felt real.
Patrick E Kelley was one I think.
We’re did you get an extra barrel I can’t find them anywhere???

Tractiongrips on ebay really cheap.

What kind of trigger up grade did you do?
I just did the spring kit and I drilled and tapped a screw to eliminate some pretravel like the freedomsmith would.
Thank you I am huge fan of freedom smith. I ported my my rival s I just order Glock 17 spring thank you for you suggestions
Hey what’s your striker spring weight currently at? I imagine going to a 13 pound recoil spring you would’ve had to change it out.
I played with a few but the factory is in there now.
Hi Can you tell me where you had it ported, thanks.
Yes MAC defense near Atlanta GA. They have a website.
Rune tactical springs fix everything. 6lbs striker, and 16 lbs recoil spring
Salve potrei spere quante libre è la molla originale ? che migliorie ci sono con molla della Glock 17 da 15 libre? GRAZIE

I carried it once or twice. It's not fun, but it's not that bad.
