Canik is underrated, when I talk to people about guns they seem to always want to mention ,Glock, S&W, SIG and a bunch of other gun makers. I bought a Canik Mete and I am looking to purchase the Canik Rival. These are great guns and very easy to use.
The aftermarket support has gotten a lot better since this video was made. I just got a threaded barrel and compensator for my Canik. There are several companies that have created a lot of aftermarket accessories for all of the Canik lines. You won't find a better gun on the market today.
Mine only came with 2, 18 round mags + the 2 extra baseplates & backstraps. Getting an additional mag would be nice. Finding mags right now is like finding the Holy Grail. Good Video
This is one of the best reviews on the Canik Rival that I've seen; it provides a great combination between the description of the gun itself, and extremely helpful tips on how to install / change things out. I've just ordered one from my local range, and am just awaiting the NICS. Quick question: for the magwell they provide, I know you use the torque wrench located in the little gun toolkit. Is the screw located in that little kit as well? (I saw 4 of them there, and assume that at least 2 are for the optics plates.)
I bought the silver version of this Rival and it is fantastic. I'm a first time shooter and a big guy and was impressed with the ergonomics of this gun. It does come with a lot of cool items right out of the box. I also like that you can change the slide release to the other side. The only issue I have is exactly as you said - not much in after market parts. For me, it's finding a left sided holster since I'm a southpaw shooter.
I just picked one of these up. I have an old double alpha academy PDR holster for an m&p pro 5 inch and the gun fits pretty damn good in it. Im a lefty also so this could be an ok option for you until more comes out. For me its good enough I dont think ill buy anything else.

That's pretty cool that the rear sight is fully adjustable. I wish the sight on my TS2 was adjustable, at least by height like the one on my Shadow 2. I have a TP9SFX with a Leupold Deltapoint Pro that I put on it but it made me realize that my astigmatism is really bad. After I held and dry fired a TS2 at the local gun range, I had to get one! I fell in love with that trigger, and after I found a good deal on one, I couldn't resist.
In my opinion, I think it's fair to only include the 2 metal base plates when so many people install extensions to their magazines, ESPECIALLY their first magazine. In that case they would have whatever extension they want on the first mag, and then the metal baseplate on the other two mags. I'm not saying this was hands down the best option. I'm just saying I think I understand the logic? Idk.
Glocks aren't junk. They run and run forever, however they need to zoom into modern times and offer an upgraded product For a straight duty gun glock Is still very good even if I'm not fond of them
@dougsmith2658 ehh. As a Master Gunsmith I can tell you that compared to a Canik, Glocks are junk. Sure, you can pay a ton of money finding readily available after- market parts to turn a Glock into something similar, but then it's not really a "Glock" anymore. It's a glock plus upgrades. Whereas with a Canik, right out of the box you are getting a firearm that is vastly superior to a Glock. You are right though that Glock needs updated to modern times. It WAS a good gun, but it really fell behind and hasn't made much of an effort to keep up with modern guns. So, not saying a glock is junk, but compared to a Canik.... yeah, Glock is garbage.
The gun has the shortest trigger resets I've experienced but it does no good if you let your finger fly forward after every shot as Robbie Wheaton did in this video. Otherwise a good review
I was shooting groups. I do not normally ride the reset when I am shooting a group. When I used to compete in USPSA, IDPA and 3-gun, I would ride the reset on distance shots and slap the trigger on close targets. You are correct though, I should have demonstrated the short reset while shooting the pistol. Thanks for watching.
Robbie, is shooting left-handed more difficult for you than shooting the normal way? Just jokin.’ Seriously, this was the first video of yours I’ve seen. It was a very good review of the new Rival SFX Dark. I really appreciated your mentioning all the different red dots that go with each plate, including with the optional plates. Likewise with the short demos on how to *correctly/optimally* install most of the OEM goodies that Canik includes.
Taylorfreelance makes some cool stuff for it. They have aluminum and brass stuff, considering Canik wants $97 a piece for gold basepads and taylor has some for about $17.
Great trigger that most don't take advantage of. Is in this video, finger goes all the way out and off the trigger. What good is a awesome reset when your finger allows the trigger all the way out to the start? I get it, it takes practice to get use to the reset. Ride the reset and you'll shoot even better.
You definitely won't shoot faster for riding the reset. Sure, the reviewer let his finger off the trigger in an exaggerated manner, but trying to precisely ride the reset results in slow splits and frequent trigger freeze. I see new shooters do it all the time at matches. I have this feeling that we might be trying to say the exact same thing.
@@ILicence yeah my point is that what is the point in showing how great a reset is if you don't use it? But I don't shoot for speed. I shoot for accuracy with quick follow-up shots. I'm not hating on him at all. It's just that the short reset is voided by letting the trigger go back to zero if you will.
Robbie....i noticed you said three mags with your pistol. I only got two with mine which was a bit dissapointing. Really need three to run competition.....and i never see additional mags available from Canik. Guess it all depends on who you know. ALSO #11 for your list, should have been the fluted barrel and matching cuts in the hood. I thought it was a great touch. Keep up the good work. ...... Keep your powder dry.......

I do not know when more magazines will be available for the Rival. The problem is when a company releases a new firearm and it is very popular, demand outpaces supply for a while. As demand slows or production increases more of these pistols and parts will become available.
@@DougDizzle20 They're comparable. Technically, the TP9 EC is priced higher as it uses an SAI barrel. So if you find an EC sub $700, I'd recommend taking it.

@@RobbieWheaton I would like you to look into the _Girsan MC9 Match_ (MC9T), the _Sar ST9-S_ (ST9-Sport), and _SAR-9 Mete_ for possible reviews. They don't have many vids on RUclips. The ST9-S is usually incorrectly labeled as just ST9 on most websites, which is the older model, but the newer one has slide cuts.
Interesting how when you were demonstrating the trigger pull that you decided to put loud music in the background so we can't hear the trigger when pulled and when it resets. (From what I hear, the trigger is what makes this gun.) Having said all that though, good review.
I love my TP9 SFx's, but the front serrations cut me every competition. This new serration pattern is much better. I will have one of these Darkside's. I will have to see about the trigger. Both of my SFx's have FreedomSmith FatDaddy's and they are awesome. Hopefully this one will be close or Freedomsmith will come up with new trigger for this. Nice review.

You did a really good job with this video. I have been watching a lot of videos here on RUclips about this pistol since I am looking into picking one up. I have learned more about the sights, and red dot option on this video then I have in several others. Thank you for going in depth about the different plates for the red dots. Please excuse my ignorance for this question, but I am new to the Red Dot world. But other than all the great reasons to get this pistol, one of the biggest things that sold me on this pistol was being able to run a Red Dot while being able to keep the rear sight with the one plate. My question is, if I chose to use the mounting plate that has the built on rear sight, what is the footprint called? I know you mentioned a couple of different type of red dots for each plate which was really awesome and great for learning, but when choosing a Red Dot for the plate with the rear sight, would it be a good idea to try to pick a micro red dot? Maybe like the Holosun 507KX2?
I may be alone in this, but i wish it had a thumb saftey Ive only really trained drawing my pistol and disarming the safety as i rise, i dont know how everyone else seems to be comfortable knowing that the gun can fire if it gets caught on anything reholstering
I have gun that have safety's and some without. You just need to practice with the gun without a frame safety. Practice is the best safety you can have !
R04C also holds crimson trace reddot that's what I run on mine. This gun was going for mid to high $700's I just picked mine up for higher $400's. Super gun for low $500 package including red dot I am in at $597. I own every model including the 1/2500 whiteout love each and everyone of them. The Darkside OUT performs my $1400 cz $2700 custom 2011 STI. THIS IS A SUPER GUN. Good job Century Arms.
I just purchased a Canik SFX Dark Side and I only have two 18 round magazines. I have watched some other videos that show it coming with three 18 round magazines. Why do I have just two?
Canik buy it once use it & throw it away when you need a part ,,, unless your a big name RUclipsr your not getting any support or satisfaction ,, yeah they give you something in the box but that’s it Lets face it most of new guns are made out polymer “ plastic “ so polymer plastic wears of use & it will crack if it gets hit hard enough ,, slides & frames get hit first from out side I had damaged my slide unfortunately,,contacted Canik for replacement slide they no they have no replacement part ,,, so it’s buy once use once & than throw it away when need a part ….. by by Canik
Great video. (I could do without the loud porn muzac though. Just sayin,...no offense). Canik is a great gun and could swallow up Glock and anyone else,...IF they had better "Aftermarket". Right now, the guns are hard to get, and mags are like gold. Canik should think about putting a little pack of springs and part is a container, to up their game. They should contemplate doing a 10mm with a full rail system in it.
Robbie they only include to base pads because they only give you two magazines in the retail version. You obviously didn't know this so I take it you really give it 5 stars , lol.
I think the normal version is 2 mags but some people are getting the 3 mags version. Smart to get the 3 mags version of you have the choice because extra mags are hard to come by.
The only thing to criticize about Canik is the stock problem. Everyone wants to buy, but there is no gun! nice review dude.

Yeah promag makes decent mags for the canik but yeah I found its best just to buy another canik so u can just get 2 more mags lol
I got the Rival Gray and it only came with 2 18rd mags too, I wonder if the Dark Side come with an extra mag

Yes, all the tools and hardware are located in the little pistol tool magwell.

Try a green dot instead of a red dot. The green is much easier to see without starbursting or looking like a figure 8 with a astigmatism.

Dude.. after i met canik i felt like i cheated on my glocks. Now I'm at peace, I realized that those sold as glock and pistols are garbage.

Just bought the same CANIK SFX Rival, dark side, Front Sight Tiniest fiber optic I have ever Seen! Really needs upgraded.
Why. If the fiber is bigger, it will block the target that much more. As long as it's bright, that is what is important.

I think the rival normally only comes with 2 mags, hence only 2 extra base plates. I think you got a better version with 3 mags.

Well the rival darkside usually come with 3 mags and 5 to 6 plates
You are correct. The Rival only comes with 2 magazines. The one I received did come with 3. I missed that in my review.
I saw that as well but they ship with 3. CF is hoarding canik magazines more than likely.
You won't remember me, but we shot together at a couple matches back about 15 years ago. I think we were both "B" Limited shooters.

Silly question , what screw did you use to install mag well ? Long or short torque screw ?
I used the screw that fit just below flush with the magwell. I do not remember if it was the long or short one.

Ive only really trained drawing my pistol and disarming the safety as i rise, i dont know how everyone else seems to be comfortable knowing that the gun can fire if it gets caught on anything reholstering
I have gun that have safety's and some without. You just need to practice with the gun without a frame safety. Practice is the best safety you can have !
R04C also holds crimson trace reddot that's what I run on mine. This gun was going for mid to high $700's I just picked mine up for higher $400's. Super gun for low $500 package including red dot I am in at $597. I own every model including the 1/2500 whiteout love each and everyone of them. The Darkside OUT performs my $1400 cz $2700 custom 2011 STI. THIS IS A SUPER GUN. Good job Century Arms.

I just got my rival and I was surprised for being Skeltonized the gun is surprisingly heavy. My M&P M2.0 is lighter and less skeletonized.
The only things you could shoot in USPSA w the magwell are Open, Limited and Limited 10 minor. No bueno for Carry Optics.
Yup. The magwell is definitely more oriented for IDPA. Gotta take it off for USPSA.

I just purchased a Canik SFX Dark Side and I only have two 18 round magazines. I have watched some other videos that show it coming with three 18 round magazines. Why do I have just two?
Mine had 2 mags. Bummer for USPSA shoots.

Yes, the R02 plate fits the 407c. It is the same as the Trijicon RMR footprint.
Canik buy it once use it & throw it away when you need a part ,,, unless your a big name RUclipsr your not getting any support or satisfaction ,, yeah they give you something in the box but that’s it
Lets face it most of new guns are made out polymer “ plastic “ so polymer plastic wears of use & it will crack if it gets hit hard enough ,, slides & frames get hit first from out side
I had damaged my slide unfortunately,,contacted Canik for replacement slide they no they have no replacement part ,,, so it’s buy once use once & than throw it away when need a part ….. by by Canik

Canik is a great gun and could swallow up Glock and anyone else,...IF they had better "Aftermarket".
Right now, the guns are hard to get, and mags are like gold.
Canik should think about putting a little pack of springs and part is a container, to up their game.
They should contemplate doing a 10mm with a full rail system in it.

I think the normal version is 2 mags but some people are getting the 3 mags version. Smart to get the 3 mags version of you have the choice because extra mags are hard to come by.
The influencer package that was sent to RUclipsrs has 3 mags. When you buy one it will have 2
The "influencers" get a much fancier package. It comes in a different box, with 3 magazines, and a Mecanik Red Dot too. Very nice if you can get it!
