Just grabbed my first bottle. Smooth barrel flavor with 0 alcohol taste or burn imo. I'm in love and at 31 a bottle, this will be my daily sipper no doubt
I’m trying a shooter of EC small batch right now because I’m new to whiskey/bourbon but I have tried Woodford and higher end whiskeys and to me this EC small batch is amazing, especially for the value. Tried Old Forester 86 the other night too and I didn’t really like it, same with Wild Turkey 101. So far EC small batch is an amazing bourbon
The nose, pallet, and finish are all equal. You not suprised or disappointed when you from the nose to the pallet or the pallet to the finish. Very predictably enjoyable experience. You know what your getting every sip. Super crushable. No off flavors. No bitterness. Very solid value. Just nothing exceptional or really unique.
The tasting notes I get is caramel ice cream sundae. I also get toffee and nutmeg notes. I just tried it two months back and never had Elijah Craig. I really like it and think it's a great everyday sipper. 👍🏻🥃
I've been saying the same things you said in this video. EC is never going to blow your hair back, but I always keep a 1.75 L at the house. It's good enough to sip, but cheap enough that I can use it as a really good mixer without feeling bad, and it smells and tastes like bourbon is supposed to.
Love the new scoring system! I definitely think that that’s fair for Elijah Craig. It’s not one of my go-tos but if I want something different than my usual that I know I’ll enjoy, that’s what I’ll gravitate towards, or something similar. It’s not spectacular, but makes my list of “here’s a good whiskey”. Perfectly above average, just as the score reflects
I got a bottle of EC small batch at Sams Club for $25 I believe. They were even offering free shots of the stuff. Tried it and knew I made a good choice. I’m new to trying new whiskeys, and this one is great value for the price. I always drink my whiskey with a bit of ice and this one doesn’t get watered down as much as other whiskeys Ive tried.
I think it’s a fair assessment of this whiskey, I keep a bottle on the shelf at all times. Actually going for it later this evening which is why I watched your review.. Nice work 👍🏻👍🏻
You should always guess. Your knowledge is spot on, in terms of understanding flavor profiles. Because of that fact, share your thoughts here, and let us all see if we agree. Often times we do, which is why your channel is popular amigo.
I would recommend reviewing 30-40 of your whiskies ranging in taste/cost and then seeing if you still agree with your scoring. I did this with my own personal collection and then adjusted how I weighted the scores till I could agree with how they ranked among themselves.
Yes you have done it! I think the new Brewzle Score technique is better than the one I saw a few videos back… and I just found your channel today and I’ve been binge watching your videos all night lol and I’m def buying a Shirt❤
Great new scoring system.. I like it. I will say it's fairer but still enables the viewer of the scores to look past value if interested more in flavor regardless of the cost.
I like Elijah Craig a lot. I am by no means a whiskey expert, I just try different bourbons and decide what I like or dislike about them. I have a long way to go in my journey, but I have to say this one is very enjoyable. It’s sweet but not too sweet, it does have some toffee and nutty notes to it which compliment the caramel and slight vanilla notes that you’d expect from bourbon, which gives it a good balance.
Had Elijah craig for the first time not long ago and i was pleasantly surprised with how good it was for the price. I usually don't explore the lower priced bottles all that much but after elijah craig I think I've been sleeping on too many above average pours.
Gotta say I’m loving the content here. Quickly rising to the top of YT whiskey content IMO. All around very well ran channel. Great info AND production value. 🤘🏻
Digging the longer videos and the new scoring system. Keep up the great work TJ. Just got my hands on a bottle of Michter’s after watching your review. Really excited to crack it open.
Definitely like this new scoring system, I feel it gives a better account of quality. I’d rather drink a good tasting bourbon with bad mouthfeel feel than a bad tasting bourbon with good mouthfeel
It takes humility to balance scoring and embrace flexibility through experience. Continue to tweak and be transparent with your process. Oh .. btw ... really enjoyed the Tupelo episode. That was fun. I'm beginning my bourbon journey and appreciate your input.
Great idea doing it blind. Lol called it blind as well! I like the new system. And yeah i think that a great place for ECSB. Great value and a solid pour.
Fantastic review! Fantastic new score system! Agree on the score - always had EC as a slightly above average bourbon… If you have the chance to review Jim Beam Lineage it would be awesome, there is almost nothing on youtube with that bottle.
this was my first good bourbon and i enjoyed it greatly, i actually prefer this over four roses, wild turkey and even makers mark, its good cheap and easy to find
Great video, and sums up my feelings on the bottle. As a newbie to whiskey and bourbon, it's hard to distinguish any real tasting notes in this bourbon. I have a bottle, and it's nice, but I don't get anything distinct out of it except a tiny hint of nutmeg or clove. The rest is just nondescript sweetness. Some people have said marzipan, and I can kinda see it, as marzipan is can be pretty mild and tame almond flavor, but I can't find anything distinct in it. All the subtle differences between caramel and toffee and butterscotch are lost on my beginner palate.
Kinda new to the bourbon scene. Got my 1st Elijah Craig small batch. All and a good pour and a bottle that will have a place on my shelves. I'd like to pick up a barrel proof or higher proof option. Any suggestions?
I think that's a fair score. If 50% is average then I'm with you on the a little better than average score. It falls into my Leaning Toward Buying Again list.
Solid review, but for me it’s a 90 on value and availability. It should be in the 70 range overall, in my humble opinion. It’s my go too on a value bourbon, just ahead of WT 101 and EW Bottled in Bond.
I doubt everyone will ever be happy with the rating system haha, I just like hearing your tasting notes and descriptions, so I can decide if that’s a bottle I’m interested in. 👍
If you think the big tech folks aren't listening. I just bought a bottle of this on sale at my local Hy Vee, and this popped up as a recommended video when I got home... 😂
I watched this review before opening the bottle of my first Elijah Craig. Admittedly, I am new to the Bourbon game and so I have been buying various bottles of Bourbon in order to find my golden standard. I will say that I have noticed more toffee dark based taste notes go better in an Old Fashioned than the more fruity higher proof bourbons. Perhaps, I am mistaken?
Mr Brewzle, (your new name).. I have heard some scuttlebutt about use of the term smooth when tasting and describing bourbon. I see that it's used by Elijah Craig.. curious as to your opinion?
Elijah Craig was my favorite bourbon when it was 12 years old. When they changed it I bought a bottle fully expecting to not be able to tell the difference, and it was horrible! I haven't had a sip of it since then. I am curious if they improved since they first changed it because right after the change everyone hated it, but now people seem to like it again. But I won't buy it to find out because they chose to ruin the whiskey over letting it get more expensive and more rare, which in my book is the dumbest possible decision. I'd rather be able to have it more occasionally than never have it at all!
Can you review Four Roses Single Barrel? I haven’t tried it yet and am hesitant to spend the $ on a full bottle. Is it better than Wild Turkey 101 is what I want to know. Ha. That bourbon is SO good and so cheap, I’m hesitant to spend any more. But, I’m really curious on the FR Single Barrel. (Like the small batch, but it’s just a little boring. Too much burn for me on the Small Batch Select)
I personally think WT101 is better tasting than Elijah Craig 94 proof. I would rate Elijah Craig a 5.3, WT101 a 5.5, and Four Roses Single Barrel an 8. The cost is justified on Four Roses Single Barrel for me because I like it better than Knob Creek which is $40.

Definitely digging the new Brewzle scoring.
Thanks man!
The new scoring system is much better in my opinion. I’m glad my favorite bourbon content creator is making their videos even better! 🥳
Thanks!
@@Brewzle sipping on sum JD Barrel proof rn I know it not the bourbon but tht taste an it's so smooth for the proof I support JD as I'm from Tennessee
One of the best budget bottles for me. That said i vastly prefer toffee caramel over red fruit whiskeys.
Do you have a favorite budget toffee caramel whiskey?
Asking the same as the one above
7 months later, still curious.
Same brother but I started with rye so.......
Loving the Ryes… also anything from Kentucky basically
Just grabbed my first bottle. Smooth barrel flavor with 0 alcohol taste or burn imo. I'm in love and at 31 a bottle, this will be my daily sipper no doubt
Just bought one bottle of that and now I searched it up on youtube for your review🎉🎉🎉

My absolute favorite budget bourbon. I love this stuff
The tasting notes I get is caramel ice cream sundae. I also get toffee and nutmeg notes. I just tried it two months back and never had Elijah Craig. I really like it and think it's a great everyday sipper. 👍🏻🥃

Also thank you so much. I was able to go to a liquor store and not be embarrassed by how much I didn't know. I appreciate you.
I agree with this entire video and like the new scoring system and format. Good job TJ the live streams coming in clutch 🤘🏼
Thanks, man!
Love the new scoring system! I definitely think that that’s fair for Elijah Craig. Love your videos. Knows his stuff but stays humble. Thank you for your info. You got me into bourbon. Cheers from Houston

When he guessed Elijah Craig wow! Shows the real credibility very fun to watch love ur personality in the reviews. Just like ur talking to friends!
I appreciate that!
Almost like he already knew what it was somehow. Maybe all he does is change his shirt and act like he doesn't know 🤷♂️
I would recommend reviewing 30-40 of your whiskies ranging in taste/cost and then seeing if you still agree with your scoring. I did this with my own personal collection and then adjusted how I weighted the scores till I could agree with how they ranked among themselves.

This is one of the best budget bourbons of all time. Great recommendation
Great new scoring system.. I like it. I will say it's fairer but still enables the viewer of the scores to look past value if interested more in flavor regardless of the cost.

Light and pleasant is exactly how I'd describe ECSB. It's a great entry level bourbon because it tastes like.... well, bourbon. Great review.
Gotta say I’m loving the content here. Quickly rising to the top of YT whiskey content IMO. All around very well ran channel. Great info AND production value. 🤘🏻
I like this new system. Gives it a little more context for viewers!
Thank you!
Liking the new scoring system!
Great Format doing the blind this way. I like it!
I believe your score is spot on. I paid $ 32.00 in upstate NY. Nose & taste to me is very earthy
Digging the longer videos and the new scoring system. Keep up the great work TJ. Just got my hands on a bottle of Michter’s after watching your review. Really excited to crack it open.
This new system is much improved. Great video!
Glad you think so!
brother brewzle at it again with another informative tell-all analytic
Definitely like this new scoring system, I feel it gives a better account of quality. I’d rather drink a good tasting bourbon with bad mouthfeel feel than a bad tasting bourbon with good mouthfeel
I like the new scoring system and the blind tasting!
My favorite regular bourbon. I can drink it neat but I really enjoy it with a little bit of ice.
Fair enough!
Video inspired me into cracking open my first Elijah Barrel Proof from last year B523.
Big win for the new scoring systems!! Looking forward to this year
Perfect timing! I‘m just looking which „standard“ Bourbon I‘m going to add to my collection and was looking for EC reviews.
Love the new format
appreciate it!
New scoring system is fun. Excited to see more!
I definitely think that you need to start guessing with them it makes it more fun
It takes humility to balance scoring and embrace flexibility through experience. Continue to tweak and be transparent with your process. Oh .. btw ... really enjoyed the Tupelo episode. That was fun. I'm beginning my bourbon journey and appreciate your input.
I’ve found that this works excellent on old fashioneds for those who like that drink
Good to know!
Seems like a scoring system improvement. Will know better after a few more scores.
Just got my first Elijah Craig here to see what to expect
I spy a Dickel Tabasco on the shelf. Can’t say I have plans to ever purchase that bottle but would like to see your review!
it's... very... bad
Watching this video while sipping on the bottle mentioned:)
i like the two sides of the vidio. the history and hype. then a blind taste test is a great format, with sparse but great editing.
yea...... you nailed that one
Thank you!
Great idea doing it blind. Lol called it blind as well! I like the new system. And yeah i think that a great place for ECSB. Great value and a solid pour.
The production values with the new scoring system is really well done
interesting new rating. want to see more before we can tell if better. Loved that you nailed it was EC. cheers.
Have yet to try that whiskey, it is definitely on my list to buy...
You should!
Fantastic editing and content. Well done
I’m a Wild Turkey fan, but when I can’t get that I get Elijah Craig. It’s not great, but not bad.
Fantastic review!
Fantastic new score system!
Agree on the score - always had EC as a slightly above average bourbon…
If you have the chance to review Jim Beam Lineage it would be awesome, there is almost nothing on youtube with that bottle.
Is this better than knob creek 9? Wonder which one is better. Thank you for your tips and advice
this was my first good bourbon and i enjoyed it greatly, i actually prefer this over four roses, wild turkey and even makers mark, its good cheap and easy to find
I'm starting to really enjoy Knobb Creek myself
It's head and shoulders over four roses. Makers is a very different taste, with the wheat.
Just tried it and looked up your opinion. 101 is my go to so ot works for me. The Evan Williams bottle and bond is great as well, any suggestions?
Love the new brewzle system. Also love that you don’t know the pour when you rate it, funny that you guessed EC though.
Doesn’t seem like a complete week without a brewzle live! The Jill basket fund needs some superchats LOL!!
For real!
I truly enjoy your videos and your enthusiasm!!!!! Elijah Craig Small Batch a good/recommended beginner Bourbon?
Kinda new to the bourbon scene. Got my 1st Elijah Craig small batch. All and a good pour and a bottle that will have a place on my shelves. I'd like to pick up a barrel proof or higher proof option. Any suggestions?
I love EC Toasted and Barrel Proof
I think that's a fair score. If 50% is average then I'm with you on the a little better than average score. It falls into my Leaning Toward Buying Again list.
Was thinking of putting in a bar and was wondering how you did the lights by the shelves
Solid review, but for me it’s a 90 on value and availability. It should be in the 70 range overall, in my humble opinion. It’s my go too on a value bourbon, just ahead of WT 101 and EW Bottled in Bond.
Love the new scoring.
I love this one and the toasted barrel one
I like the new scoring system. I think that is a fair score but it's hard to say without having a few more to compare against.
I doubt everyone will ever be happy with the rating system haha, I just like hearing your tasting notes and descriptions, so I can decide if that’s a bottle I’m interested in. 👍
Very good entry level bourbon that I still enjoy. Look forward to the yearly EJ Barrel Proof offerings. Love the channel.
do a video on that Dickel Tabasco..or did I miss one
hmmm lol
See TJ this is what kind of videos I’m after not the live streams
One of my favorites!
I think we'll need a few more before we can truly say it's better, but stating out will taste and aroma heavily weighted is a good start.
I haven’t tried it yet just finished Jim Beam single barrel delicious. And I just started Four Roses small batch, it’s ok but The beam was better
If you think the big tech folks aren't listening. I just bought a bottle of this on sale at my local Hy Vee, and this popped up as a recommended video when I got home... 😂
I have a bottle but mine is 131.6 proof! Extremely potent
Early Times is my favorite budget whiskey.
I watched this review before opening the bottle of my first Elijah Craig. I will say that I have noticed more toffee dark based taste notes go better in an Old Fashioned than the more fruity higher proof bourbons. Perhaps, I am mistaken?
Best value bourbon when it comes down to availability, variations, oakiness ect.
$27 at Target in Sacramento today
I'm pretty sure Evan Williams and Elijah Craig both use Heaven Hill's 78/10/12 mashbill, right?
Any plans to update the prior reviews to match this new scoring system?
Mr Brewzle, (your new name).. I have heard some scuttlebutt about use of the term smooth when tasting and describing bourbon. I see that it's used by Elijah Craig.. curious as to your opinion?
Why is there still no Brewzle review of the ec12 barrel proof?
finally a system that we can trust !
I'd rather be able to have it more occasionally than never have it at all!
I like the new system. I don't like it when people try to guess blinds, it adds a bias, but no value IMO.
Nice idea!
Thank you! Cheers!
The new scoring system and doing it blind is much better
I would have given a higher rating for value. But great review
About $35 out the door for me here in Michigan.
Becoming more common in the UK but will cost around 32 UK pounds inc Tax
Does Canadian hunter taste like regular crown???
