People talking about him and him knowing or should've seen it coming that she would remove his mask. This is the reasoning. The phantom is supposed to be so driven and so engrossed in his music that it describes him as not sleeping or even eating for weeks at a time while composing his music. It's all he sees when he's working and nothing else. So it's not surprising she could sneak up on him while he was working because he saw nothing but music at that time.
in musicals not everything has to make sense really, for example the phantom throwing fireballs or making carlottas voice go "toady", you can explain these things somehow if you want to, but whats the point? they are storytelling elements and what counts are the emotions. I never cared for these things and I pity people who get stuck on things like that. as Carlotta says in the beginning "these things do ´appen all the time"
"They changed it where instead of ripping off the mask, he removes it himself and is cleaning his face while he believes she is asleep." I saw that! I TOTALLY did not agree with that blocking. Because it takes away from Christine's impulsive, curious side of her character, and now it's the Phantom's fault that she saw him without it on. It's so stupid!
I think the reason The Phantom was furious when Christine unmasked him is because he wants her to love him as much as he loves her, but he knows she can't because he looks like a monster. Throughout his life no one gave him sympathy due to his hideous figure. Not even his own mother. He thinks Christine will be like everyone else once she sees his true face, which is why he is keeping her prisoner.
He isn't keeping her prisoner. He brought her to his lair saying he wanted her to sing for him cause he was the angel of music. He was going to keep her prisoner forever until she handed back the mask. In the book he keeps her there for a few days and treats her with the upmost respect I think he was kinda gonna do that
I think he's so upset when she removes the mask because he loves her so much. He knows he's a monster on the outside, and he doesn't want her to have to see his face. He doesn't want to frighten her or torture her with his repulsiveness. He wants her to love him. That's what I see in it.
yeah. in the book, as Christine describes, it was actually a touching scene. He cries to her, saying he is a fraud. but he treats her like a wife, playing music for her and making her meals. When Christine unmasks him, he keeps her prisoner for two weeks, until they come to a mutual agreement that she remains clean and wears a wedding ring he gives her as a sign she wont cheat on him.
why do you even have to think about it so deeply? his deformity is what got him in a cage for others to laugh at, it made his mother turn away in fear, its what he associates with all the bad, that ever happened to him, why you think he wears the damn mask, he´s also wearing it when nobody can see him.
Ok... I think my writer's soul just died, so did my musician's, and I'm drowning in a sea of feelings. Gosh, he sings so beautifully, he calls her with names that are references while being angry... "little lying Delilah", I mean that's badass !!! And god, Ramin is gonna kill me one day... But it's okay, I accept it... There's worst than that
I would think the real awkward conversation comes after he introduces her to the mannequin (Not in the 25th, obviously.). Christine (Monotone): "Oh...it's...it's beautiful. Not weird at all."
Same here! Anyone else wish they could replace a main character to treat the others better than the original? Becuz meeeeeeee! Also, the poor phantom needs a nice person. Screw off Christine.
The movie is ... a take on it,I guess,I was obsessed with it and still own the dvd,but once you've listened and watched Ramin and Sierra's rendition, you are pretty much done for, even Sarah Brightman cannot compare. The 25th anniversary is the point of no return.
Up till this song I enjoyed Ramin's Phantom but felt others performed him better- THIS SONG CHANGED MY MIND! This guy is INSANELY passionate about this role, you can FEEL it.
Im about 5 years late but this is my favorite song in phantom hands down. The soft violin when christine is about to unmask him shows the almost dreamlike state she's in perfectly. And the music when the phantom doesnt have his mask, its very repetitive almost taunting and coercive which is perfect for the character and the song. Honestly Webber is a genius, the music is so carefully thought out.
I agree, freaking out on her like that wasn’t okay, but at the same time, if Christine wanted to see his face she shouldn’t have surprised him like that, she should have asked. If she had simply asked “May I please see your face?” He could have explained to her why he didn’t want her to see it. Again, his reaction wasn’t okay (I mean if you want to court a girl, freaking out like that on her is a BIG turn off) but at the same time I don’t think you could expect him (after the way he’s been treated to the point where even he hates his appearance) to respond in a way like “Oh! Christine why did you do that?! Haven’t you figured it out by the fact that I’ve kept my mask on this whole time there’s a reason I wear it?! It’s not just for show!”
Of the tracks I've heard, this is the track I make fun of the most but it really is a good track. It's just mellodramatic and over dramatic but in a fun way.
I know, I was making a joke, lol :) let's see: viper, demon, delilah...yeah, those aren't good words to call someone...he's essentially swearing in Broadway language, lol
Lol :D I'd rather not be called any of those...it's funny, he *had* to have known she was gonna do it...I mean, he was all diggin on her touching him in the movie, and then once he realized the mask was gone he freaked! I can't get over it, it makes me laugh everytime.

They changed it where instead of ripping off the mask, he removes it himself and is cleaning his face while he believes she is asleep.

"Fear can turn to love, you'll learn to see to find the man behind the monster"...
That broke my heart.

Every rutting time that i hear it ç-ç
"Repulsing carcass, seems a beast. But secretly, dreams of *beauty*.. Secretly.. Secretly.." :'(

That was the highest scream I have ever heard from any Phantom in this scene ever.... wow Ramin... that was pretty darn impressive!
+Cassie Brey that scream was higher than my IQ
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Cassie Brey Actually Anthony Warlow's is higher
lol ikr! I was doing homework and listening and it actually scared me xD
You cracked me up

If you search up Ramin Karminloo singing,"Till I hear you sing" You will die just as much
That growl while saying "Who burns in hell" WAS SO POWERFUL
Aw man, the way he says "Dreams of beauty"...dang. :'(
How awkward do you think the ride back was?
Omg Ikr!!
So, Erik . . . . Uh . . . . Nice . . . . Current . . . . We have down . . . . here.

Christine: nice place ..you got here
Erik: yeah....it's my lovely out of solitude and despair
Christine: ....

Oh guys no honestly I read the book and the awkward level is so high it's hilarious.

The way he says "dreams of beauty" just breaks my heart into tiny little pieces

@@shootingstar5247 A nice person? No. He did the right thing in the end but just no.
I just listened to the Gerard and Emmy version of this for the first time in a while and wow I needed to listen to this to become clean again..
mcrxliz Same.
mcrxliz
Same hear mate
Hey, Emmy is an amazing Christine. Gerard went for a... unique take on phantom.
The movie is ... a take on it,I guess,I was obsessed with it and still own the dvd,but once you've listened and watched Ramin and Sierra's rendition, you are pretty much done for, even Sarah Brightman cannot compare.
The 25th anniversary is the point of no return.
Is it just me or does he say "you little flying fedora" ? I can't unhear this :')
tylrrose27 He actually says "you little prying pandora", but before I looked at the lyrics I couldn't tell either.
I burst out laughing when I read this comment. Sorry.
that's why i looked up the lyrics! i was like wait did he just call her a flying fedora? i was about to comment it myself😂😂
Same! And I als thought he said, when he says: You little viper, I I thought he said, : you little fu**er! I'm dying!
oh my gosh now i'll never forget this
Holy shit. When you think Ramin's acting skills/voice acting skills can't get any better...then you watch this....Ramin oh my is truly a genius.
Up till this song I enjoyed Ramin's Phantom but felt others performed him better- THIS SONG CHANGED MY MIND! This guy is INSANELY passionate about this role, you can FEEL it.
That growl on 1:56 is doing things to me
Le Petit Croissant I would've never noticed this until you pointed it out. Excuse me as I go melt within my seat.
Le Petit Croissant The video to this scene has been removed from RUclips by the copywrite nazis. There is more to it and it was a fabulous part.
NOW I CANT STOP LISTENING TO THAT ONE MOMENT OVER AND OVER
I highly advice everyone to watch this version in full, because the acting is on par with the singing and makes the feelings hit home even harder.
0:50 to 1:10 is probably the most beautiful thing ever because of both the orchestral sound and the vocals, it’s absolutely amazing
YES
1:11 Thanks Erik. Now there's no way I'm gonna get any sleep tonight.
I try and sleep to this soundtrack and that is the one moment that jolts me awake. xD
@@BeMoreBroadway What about him furiously practicing Don Juan Triumphant at the end of MOTN?
That little growl at 1:56 makes me feel things
I would love to see that boatride back, must be inspired by 'four minutes of silence'

NoooAAOOOoooo
Ramin scream
Me: "Is somebody dying?!"
'Secretly longing for heaven...' Who can beat Ramin!?!!?!? The emotion is just stunning, beautiful work by Karimloo
"Fear can turn to love" I learned that lesson the hard way.
Ramin's screech made me jump so high.
"Who's is the face in the mask" (I was like, DONT YOU DARE DO IT!!)
If I didn't know what he said...i'd swear he said 'little fucker' instead of 'little viper' :) xxxx
Omg!!!! I knew he said viper, but after you said this, I heard fucker...
hehe :)
Jade Saunders After reading this comment, I replayed that part and now that's all I hear. Lol!
kg17sw :D
Jade Saunders AAAAnd now I can't take the song seriously with this tidbit. XD
Such an interesting contradiction. A being accused of grotesque attair creates the lovliest of things. A pity he has to hide.
So many ways to be mad someone, in need to try it sometime
Lol, That scream before the phantom started singing was hilarious!
Who else keeps rewinding to 1:38
I like when he says Pandora. Thats my cat's name 😊

*NOOOOOOOOOO!* Dang, is Ramin a mezzo-soprano? I'm serious.
he is
i wouldnt be surprised
love it soooooooooooooooooo much. watch this like 50 times!
Why's no one talking about the way he said "burns"? 1:56
Mkay it legit sounds like "you little f*cker" and I'm dying
oh that "NO" was-- oh that was *visceral.*

To be be fair, you could describe the entire musical as "melodramatic and over the top, but in a good way."
And that's why we love it.
I know, I was making a joke, lol :) let's see: viper, demon, delilah...yeah, those aren't good words to call someone...he's essentially swearing in Broadway language, lol
Best version of STYDI by the best Phantom ever
"dreams of Beauty" kills me everytime
1:57 I think he was about to say that he secretly loves her
I guess in a round about way, yes, he does in Broadway-Speak, lol
Ok, why did it stop after the last time Ramin sings "secretly"?
Dislikes are from Gerard Butler 😉
This comment section is thirsty as hell😳
Excuse me if I'm wrong but is he saying fucker? Cuz if he is I love the way he says it 😂
I think he says little viper, but I heard the same as you

I feel like Ramin is so much more calm in this part the Gerald.
Thats what I thought when I first heard it xD
This is also known as Ten Long years.

does he say the f word?
Jesse Hargrave Thought so too. Turns out he calls her a “little viper” NOT that lmao

Why does she sound really auto tune at some points? Sometimes you gotta use auto tune, I get it but there were point where it was like, “bro, wtf”
This is actually the audio from the the stage production at the Albert Hall, I dunno if you know who Ramin Karimloo is but his voice is amazing.
Autistic Raisin berry Of course I know who Ramin is! It’s just, sometimes Sierra sounds a bit weird like it’s auto tuned
