How the HECK, is Ramin able to scream bloody murder at one moment, and just shortly afterwards, flawlessly belt out the final note??? His talent is unparalleled.
Hyperspace Oddity Honestly, that’s me when I’m reciting The Phantom Of The Opera lol but I can’t do it with a straight face or without crying or chugging a lot of water. He can’t do any of those things so I’m not sure what his secret is but I’d love to know it lol
but Phantom is saying "it's over now the music of the night." he will no longer live in the dark and would be more than willing to live with Christine in the light. whether she knew it or not, he was always there for her. and will continue to be.
I think Ramin has a really good grip on the characterization of Erik from Leroux's novel. He was capable of this immense rage and insanity, but he could turn in an instant back to a very dulcet, emotional man simply for Christine. I think Sierra also had a very intense understanding of Christine as well, who was terrified by him, but, to some degree, felt emotionally indebted to him because of what he provided for her.
This is true and not true ramin is capable of quick change of state with the characters emotion but Christine is a little to sim pathetic to him when comparing the novel and musical versions
Ikr. This is why Ramin is no doubt the best phantom. And to think some people say that Gerard is better than Ramin. Lol Poor fools they make me laugh Ha ha ha ha haaa
And if you've seen the 25th Anniversary dvd, which this goes with, you just start sobbing as he mimics the monkey music box's movements (clinking cymbals) and covers its face, then turns around to see Christine standing behind him, returning his ring... :')
What kills me, is at the end when Christine and Raoul begin singing again for the last time, and as Raoul sings you can just hear Erik whimpering "I love you" and that is truly painful and beautiful. It wasn't done for anyone's benefit, unlike many other things Erik does. His heart is just BLEEDING on the stage
The chemistry between Ramin, Sierra and Hadley were so fantastic! This scene was INTENSE!! I have seen the musical with different people but nothing can top this performance and this cast!! They will always be my favourite!
WinterNightingale It really gets at how life-or-death this scene is. Some interpretations just depend on the words themselves, but these three make it come to life. Chills every time
I start to cry when I hear the crack in Ramin's voice and the shake of his hands when Sierra kisses him. And then what really gets me every time is the part when Ramin says "Christine I.. love.. you.." I'm a blubbering mess by the time Sierra comes back to return the ring. You can see the conflicting emotions in her eyes, then she kisses their joined hands. When she climbs the stairs and looks back at Ramin, he moves his head slightly as if to say "Go now my love...". One of the most beautiful scenes in theater history. The depth at which both Sierra and Ramin grasp their characters is just ughhhh unbelievable....
I just always feel like Christine never loved Raoul she was just so scared but did truly love Erik, and her turning back was her saying she needed him but Raoul just led her to the light.
"GO NOW AND LEAVE ME!!!" That scene is probably one of the most heartbreaking I've ever seen and it was performed to perfection. I actually felt choked up feeling the pain and agony in that performance. Beautiful
It's sad to see all these melodies from happy and romantic songs being used in this context. Angel of music, The music of the night, All I ask of you and a freakin' sad reprise of Masquerade? Best part of the show, honestly.
Probably my favourite scene from any musical. Also Point of no Return goes from a seductive passionate song to one of death. "For either way you choose you cannot win" Andrew Lloyd Webber should have included a "Think of Me" reprise sung by the phantom when Christine returns the ring.
I think Christine Loves the Phantom in some form but she's not in love with him. She's sympathetic for him because she has a kind heart. She understands why he did the things he did but it doesn't excuse him for his actions. He's been treated cruelly by the word until she came along. And to her he is almost like a father figure. In some way she torn because she wants to the phantom to know that not all the world hates him. She wants him to know kindness, but she also can't stay because of the way he's treated her. Plus it wouldn't be fair for her to stay when the phantom loves her so much and she is in love with someone else. This is why I love this musical so much because as an audience we are torn, we don't know whether to dislike the Phantom because he's portrayed as a villain or feel sympathy for him because he's bee treated so badly.
Boy howdy I love SO many things about this finale: -How scared and desperate Raoul sounds when he says "Let me see her!!!" -The anger in Christine's voice at "The tears I might have shed for your dark fate, grow cold and turn to tears of hate!" -All three of their voices clashing together and yet somehow blending in flawlessly (it shouldn't work but it does) -The Phantom beginning to lose his strength at the last "You've passed the point of no return" -Christine sounding tired as well when she says "You deceived me! I gave my mind blindly!" -If you listen REALLY closely, the Phantom repeats the word "Blindly" very softly to himself. -Pretty much all of what he's yelling to Christine and Raoul towards the end and how he's yelling it, but ESPECIALLY the horrible pain and agony in his voice as he SCREAMS at them "GO NOW AND LEAVE ME!!!" it leaves me absolutely speechless every single time. -And then when he's reprising "Masquerade" he sounds like he's on the verge of tears throughout the whole thing. He was a bad man, but boy do you feel sorry for him. Ramin Karimloo is the best Phantom. No question. And this is my favourite version of the musical. If they ever try again to make a film adaptation, I sincerely hope they cast Ramin and Sierra in it because they are both so amazing.
I agree with you 100%! This will always be my number one favorite musical! And there is a movie adaptation, it’s from 2004 with Emmy Rossum as Christine, Patrick a Wilson as Raoul and Gerard Butler as Phantom.
Let me add with what I love -Like very songs motif being used -The Phantom’s voice during the welcoming being smarmy because he knows he’s cornered Raoul -How Ramin is perfectly able to blend fury and sadness at the beginning of Point of no return, as he sounds absolutely desperate -The Phantom of the Opera (Song) is only used by the Mob which is a juxtaposition to how it was always used to cue the Phantom -Ramin screaming. He had to do this twice for the recording and Live-
My favorite part of this has to be the beginning. Ramin really sounds like he has completely lost it... There's so many agony, fear, hatred and despair in his voice that it manages to break my heart even if i'm not seeing his performance, just by hearing his singing. ''Hunted down by everyone, met with hatred everywere, no kind word from anyone, no compassion anywhere...! CHRISTINE! CHRISTINE, WHY?! WHYYYYYYYYY?!!'' Also, did anyone else notice how the Phantom mutters ''blindly...'' at 6:50 ?
Another thing that makes him losing his mind in this scene so much more real is when Erik chokes Christine. That was during the scene where it went: "Free her! Do what you will only free her! Have you no pity?!" "Your lover makes a passionate plea!" * Christine gasps * "Please Raoul, it's useless!" Then after that part, he sees what he did and steps back in regret. For those who haven't watched the R.A.H version of P.O.T.O in video form, seriously. Look it up and watch that particular part. I know for a fact I'm not the only one who noticed that he was choking her. Freaking hell. There's soo many ways that made this production much more realistic than the movie. Wow. By far my favorite version, yet.
10:13-10:30 "OF THIS ANGEL IN HEEEEEELLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO!!!!!!! GO NOW AND LEEEAAAVE MEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!" Jeez Ramin! Freaking amazing! Such chills! :O :D
I actually just saw the USA tour, and I will always admire how this phantom says those lines. I feel no other phantom can nail those few words like this one. I die a little when his heart is broken :( amazing performance.
+LittleClarinetPlayer The benefit of going to see theatre in Toronto, London's West End, etc, the theatre is actually accessible to the masses (financially *and* physically).
I love how Ramin portrayed the brokenness of the phantom, and how he nodds his head at Christine at the end letting her go....it makes me cry. its so beautiful and tragic.
Because for all his affection and invested emotions, the Phantom obviously didn't respect her as a person, nor what she needed, felt, or thought? His decision to let her go here is literally the first time in the entire show that he respects her feelings on anything, and by then he's kidnapped her, emotionally blackmailed her, murdered several people, and attempted to force her hand in marriage by using her fiance's life as a bargaining chip. The Phantom can and is played sympathetically, but that doesn't make him right on any of this, nor does it entitled him to forgiveness from someone he's harmed to the point where she lives in constant fear of him. It's pretty obvious why Christine wouldn't side with him...
+Megan Burrell Because the Phantom had to learn that he couldn't threaten people into what he wanted, no matter how much he loved her. 'If you love someone, set them free' and all. Because that's his character arc. He wouldn't have learned that lesson if Christine had gone with him. They wouldn't have been happy. Hey at least in the musical he lives! He can move on and find happiness somewhere. Optimism! Still heartbreaking. But I agree with her choice. Don't let people guilt or threaten you into loving them, no matter how shitty their lives are.
+Megan Burrell Honestly I feel sorry for Erik, my heart breaks for him but I respect Christine's choice. Putting Love Never Dies to the side (because I refuse to accept it's existence) Raoul is a good guy, sure not a lot of faults that we see in the musical but still. Her decision isn't shallow, it's not because he's deformed. ("This haunted face holds no sorrow for me now" "I kills kills without a thought, he murders all that's good") I feel bad for Erik, his life has sucked and I understand how he got to that point but Christine's decision was based on the fast Erik has killed people to try to get what he wanted. While she cared for him he tried to force her into loving him and it doesn't work like that. He realized that after she agreed to stay with him. It wasn't out of love, it was because of her love for someone else. It was something she was resigning too, not something she wanted to do, and he realized he couldn't keep her there like that. It's a tragedy in that regards but I wouldn't say it's the wrong decision.
It's so unsettling to hear the same beautiful melody used in "Music of the Night" being used again, only this time the words include "down that path into darkness deep as hell" and "this face which earned a mother's fear and loathing."
"The tears I might have shed for your dark fate grow cold, and turn to tears of hate" is one of the most powerful moments of this performance. When you see Sierra's face you're just slapped with the pure, raw emotion she produces, only to amplify such powerful vocals. Such an amazing performer.
I know how it feels to scream so much on stage (I'm in a theatre production too and all I do is scream) my throat hurts all day after every rehearsal, so I have A LOT of respect for Ramin.
@@NOONE-cd4gu sorry, I wasn´t online for the last weeks, because I was real busy. I had a premiere and exams and then there was a murder attempt in my school and now I might have to talk to police because I´m the last one who saw her before it happened. Btw do you have Tumblr? I´m more active on Tumblr at the moment.
@@madphantom7161 OMG ! Im so so sorry to hear that. Hope the exams went well and Wow are u and everyone OKAY??? Like did u get hurt? Did anything serious happen????!!! You must have felt very traumatised ! Nah i dont have that.
@@NOONE-cd4gu exams went perfectly well. I´m fine, don´t worry. A girl from my class went to the bathroom, somebody smashed a glass bottle on her head and she passed out. A teacher found her and she was brought to hospital. She´s coming back next week, so she´s relatively unscathed. I´m not necessarily traumatized, but I´m a bit scared, because I have a feeling like it might have been one of my classmates who attacked her. She´s had a fight with the popular kids a while ago and they all seemed strangely unbothered by what happened.
What gets me every time is when Christine sings out for Raoul after the she returns the ring to the Phantom. Raoul finally understands what Christine has been going through, and while I absolutely love Hadley's aggressive and dutiful take on the character, and so he allows himself to be _gentle_ for once. The entire time, Raoul felt the responsibility to protect Christine and eliminate the Phantom with every possible chance. This meant he had to shorten his temper and become defensive for most of the time. But at the end, where he vows to follow Christine wherever she may go, Raoul realizes that he's won, and allows himself to be vulnerable for once. He can finally prioritize loving Christine instead of defending her against any and all threats.
Ugh, I loved Raoul during this. When he was set free, he was really going to attack the Phantom, but Christine held him back xD. When the Phantom was approaching him, his face was like "WHEN YOU LET ME GO I SWEAR TO GOD I'M GOING TO RIP YOU APART."
This first time I saw this show, I was convinced that she was going to come back and the musical would end happily. Instead, my emotions went in this order: Confusion Realization Heartbreak More Heartbreak
But would Christine ending up with the Phantom, a murderer, who frightened her a lot for a great part of the musical, and who is definitely not mentally well, be considered a happy ending? I don't know. She seems happy with Raoul.
when youtube is on autoplay and you're so caught up in what you're doing that somebody catches you doing math homework to the phantom screaming "GGGGOOOO NOWWW AND LEAVE MEEEEEEEE!"
I love the fact that Hadley's lines went "Say you love him and my life is over" It really means that Christine is his life and by her saving him, he would be numb and heartbroken at the same time. Though it's ironic that his life would be over as well if she said no
Can I please make something clear for everyone who says Christine should've gone with the Phantom? 1) The Phantom is not mentally well. And Christine for most of the musical is scared of him, even if she does pity him. 2) Raoul gets way too much of a bad rap. He's the only character in the musical who's like, "I'm not taking any of the Phantom's sh*t." And he's willing to risk his life for Christine. 3) It simply would not have worked if Christine went with the Phantom. Real love is willing to let go. And Christine showing him probably the first real act of kindness anyone has ever shown him moves him enough to let her go, however painful it is. Sometimes life does not have happy endings. Speaking of which, I think the ending is brilliant with the Phantom disappearing and leaving behind only his mask. In the book he commits suicide, but this ending leaves it open to interpretation. We don't know what happened to him. But whatever his fate was, him purposefully leaving his mask behind is him shedding himself of that identity.
HetalianOtaku710 I don’t want Christine with either of them. I do not hate Raoul in the show, I hate him in general, especially in the book, where he is just a slightly watered out Erik but with a handsome face and social standing. Like Erik is about a 9/10 on the “HELL no”-scale (in the book) and Raoul is like a 8/10, due to his treatment of her. Erik is SEVERELY watered down in the show, but still sympathetic. I still think she should have gone with Meg and eloped with her
Katherine Baker I’m sorry, watch what? I’m quite certain that the thing you just mentioned does not exist. I’m also maybe kinda in denial. Fuck that shit, makes the entire story-arc null and void
I was flipping through the score and I noticed this: Raoul's "Either way you choose he has to win!" is in the tune of "Anywhere you go let me go too" a la All I Ask Of You. Fucking genius
actually each had their own Christine is singing "angel of music" from the mirror scene, phantom is singing "past the point of no return" Raul is singing "all I ask of you" ask there melodies are being played at once incredibly difficult to do in a trio you need to know your post PERFECTLY it's just beautiful
I love the way the Phantom finally gets the major chord under that motif sung in the final "Music of the night". Ever other time the Phantom sings that little selection, it always has something different played under it, but he finally gets that lovely chord. I think it's kind of symbolic.
OK GUYS LISTEN UP. Yes, of course she loves Erik, but I think she knows that she fell in love with the part of him that fell in love with her. Not the part of him that takes up most of his consciousness, which would be the rage and malcontent ("Angel of Music, you deceived me! I gave my mind blindly!"). Also, Erik was the "Angel of Music" that her father sent her. He was a link to her father. But I also believe she was in love Raoul, because he was the one who knew that what the Phantom was doing was wrong. Because he was what she thought Erik was.
Sarah Glover Sarah Glover GOOD QUESTION! My guess is either John Owen Jones for his vocals alone or Hugh Panaro for his psychopathic portrayal of the character
"Christine, I love you..." I cry up every single time, it's such a heart breaking moment because he's never been shown love and this woman who he has finally let in and he has shown her everything and she doesn't love him back... It's absolutely performed to perfection and it completely and utterly breaks my heart.
The complete brokenness is Raoul's voicr when he screams, "Let me see her!" It gets me everytime. It's so full of raw emotion and reminds me why this is my favorite production.
I know right! I feel the raw emotion in that and feel so much for this phantom. Then when it cuts to the soft melody of masquerade I feel my heart clench. Amazing performance by this phantom in my opinion.
when sierra starts to lead in with "Angel of music who deserves this" and everything just blends together it sounds AMAZING! People really don't give Hadley enough credit for this. They are all absolutely outstanding and blend perfectly together!
During a really hard time in my life I was obsessed with POTO. And then I heard Ramin and sierra, specifically this song. I remember listening to this song for the first time sobbing because it was so beautiful and perfect. Every word and note holds some sort of emotion. 2 years later it still hits me hard.
It is so perfect and beautiful (even with a few glitches from Sierra). I will often listen to this when I just need to let myself go emotionally. All of Act 2 is like that for me. POTO has gotten me through numerous difficult times as well. Off and on for 30 years.
Ramin is incredible. A heavy portion of the musical relies on his emotions alone, ESPECIALLY this scene. And yet he acts so well to where it moves me to tears. In fact, he doesn't act. He BECOMES the Phantom.
Random Fact: Lucifer, aka the Devil, was the Minister of Music, or the Angel of Music, when he fell. So, Erik was claiming to be Lucifer. And then he sang about the angel in hell. Just thought I'd share.
I understand what you're saying comes from a good place, but Deaf people are happy being Deaf. Please don't make it sound like they can't live full, happy lives without hearing.
+homeiswonderland Just curious but how do you know all deaf people are happy being deaf? I know you mean well but don't think all disabled are blissful and happy being disabled.
nerdieone1 Um, good point. I know you were talking to the other person but thought I'd butt in and answer anyway. Not ALL deaf people are happy being deaf, but nobody should define whether or not they are happy except them IMHO. I'm taking a class in ASL, and one thing we learn is that a lot of Deaf people (yes, apparently some like to capitalize it?) ARE happy being deaf, and consider themselves fully capable, NOT disabled. Many don't consider it a disability, just different, like having a different hair color/eye color/etc.
Most people: talking about their favorite part Me: am I the only one who gets really sad at "Masquerade paper faces on parade, masquerade, hide your face so the world will never find you."
I was crying when I heard it. It's so sad😢 But what hurts me the most is "Angel in Hell". Actually all the story is so sad, that almost every moment hurts.
I just love how in this version when she kisses him he didn't expect it and you could see the awkwardness and shock and happiness on Ramin's face. In the film it looked like the phantom was expecting it and I didn't think it seemed like the character would act that way. In this version it is so beautiful!😍my heart melts.
Based on his "ANGEL IN HELL/GO NOW AND LEAVE ME," I'd like to hear Ramin sing some death and/or black metal, I'm betting he could pull it off. Oooh and you could get Sierra to join in for a Beauty and the Beast dynamic, like Theatre of Tragedy or Tristania!
+Ellieg1a I was so tempted to listen to this in Study Hall, then I realized if I did, I might end up crying while whispering, "Poor Erik... Why Ramin? Why Christine!"
Okay it's not the Phantom's 'I love you' the breaks me..Nothing at all breaks me...Not until Christine starts singing All I ask of You. It sounds so final...Like it's over...Like they're taking their final bow in this duet. I can hear how she still wants him like how a person dies and you hurt so badly inside because you know they aren't there. This is almost worse, though. She knows he can try and follow her if she says she wants him to, but she has to restrain herself. In doing that, the phantom traps himself to be seen or have a hard time not being seen by the people that are coming. If I were Christine, I would have during that song just trudged back through the water and screamed and cried for him to follow me. I wouldn't be able to handle the desperation and everything. Not only is she doing it to say a final goodbye because she must go, but she's doing it for the Phantom. The phantom would be broken and fully obsessed if Christine had any second thoughts.
At 6:24, you can just hear all the millions of emotions! Especially when Christine sings " Why do you curse mercy? " It's just one of the most emotional moments, full of anger, regret, helplessness, and a million other emotions. They are just so good!
You know how obsessed I am with this musical? Ever since I saw it in the 8th grade in Chicago, I've listened to the soundtrack and sang along before going to vocal lessons, learning the music, expanding my range to hit that 3rd octave e flat in the title song (And I'm an alto, wasn't that easy), and act along with the soundtrack. That's how powerful this musical is on me. And I hope that ONE DAY, ONE DAY I could be Christine.
It really got me when he says: "Christine.. I... love... you..." but when she kisses him, his reaction is so beautiful and you can see how touched he is and it's so sweet. I swear i love the Phantom and Christine together! Idk man, this whole thing makes me feel so many emotions at once and it's truly beautiful
So...I am sitting here listening to the whole soundtrack again while doing homework, and had to stop at 10:23 because once again the amazing cast and orchestra has made me cry. There is SO much emotion throughout this whole scene.
What gets me in this song isn't him screaming "GO NOW AND LEAVE ME" or the way he tells Christine hE LOvEs hEr or the WAy hE BELTS OUT mUSic Of THe NiGHt but the way he sings Masquerade in the most heartwrenching absolutely broken way.
I AM NOT CRYING DAMMIT. THAT'S BULLSHIT. NO. NIAGRA FALLS IS GUSHING THROUGH MY EYEBALLS. THAT'S NOT CRYING. THAT'S MY SOUL LEAVING. THAT WHISPERED 'I LOVE YOU' WAS THE FINAL STAB THAT GOT ME CURLING INTO A FETUS FOR WHO KNOWS HOW LONG UNTIL MY COUSIN MANAGED TO FIND ME UNDERNEATH THE BED. DAMMIT RAMIN WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT TO HAVE THAT KIND OF VOICE THAT LEAVES ME RAW AND BLEEDING WHENEVER I HEAR YOU SING?! HUH?!
THANK YOU! DAMN! I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS EVEN POSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE TO CLEARLY DESCRIBE THE FEELS! IT'S CURRENTLY MIDNIGHT, I HAVE AN EXAM TOMORROW AND I DON'T FUCKING CARE.
i would try to get into the chorus just so I could sneak into sierra's and ramin's dressing rooms and put roses and letters in there. and the throat coat tea..
When Christine starts to sing all I ask of you she looks back at Erik as if to say "finish this song with me and I'll stay" then Raoul cuts in like the jerk he is.
It worries me deeply how much people hate Raoul for saving Christine from her frickin stockholm syndrome for the Phantom, who is a psycho, a murderer, and an abuser
It's fiction. The phantom is a well-rounded, complex character who is interesting for the audience. He inspires so many feelings in us as an audience: fascination, dread, pity. While Raoul is completely flat, we don't really know much about him and he pretty much shouts from the sidelines the whole time. That's why most people root for the phantom, especially when he is formed by such talent as Ramin Karimloo. The sheer amount of pain and desperation in his voice is staggering. Why do you think so many people love the Joker? Truly good villains who are actually more than simply villains are hard to come by, but they can be absolutely compelling. I think that's what happened in Erik's case.

HOW DOES HE GO FROM SHAKY AND OVERLY VIOLENT AND JUST KINDA STRANGE INTO THAT HEAVENLY "NIGHT" I DON'T UNDERSTAND. (I love Ramin, don't take anything as hate.)
This is in my top 3 POTO songs. Especially when Christine sings Angel of Music, Raoul sings All I Ask of You, and Erik sings Point of No Return, it sounds so perfect! And when he sings Masquerade and he is crying, it makes my heart crumble.
I feel like the way he yells the "angel in hell!" and "go now and leave me!" really give it a more painful feeling (in a good way). Ramin's preformance was very emotion based, and I loved it.
You don't see it in any of the movies or the musical, but Raoul and Christine are together for a year during the transmission, discussed during the Masquerade. So it is assumed Raoul was attempting to get Christine away all of that time, while she was still fearful about leaving Erik.
I love Erik and accept him with all my heart but I believe that if the story ended differently from how it was this musical would not be a masterpiece. Christine is terrified of him and loves Raoul, but she sympathizes and accepts Erik despite his unjustifiable actions. Erik was a distorted, suffering and mad character with such a complex story that draws us in, so a lot of us would root for him. But again, he threatened Christine that if she does not love him, Raoul would die, he legitimately have a torture chamber in his lair, murdered people because he wants Christine to be his, and his only, and Christine, although having some emotions for him and somewhat loves him, cannot stay with him for she will not be as happy as she is with Raoul. She understands that by leaving him, Erik would slowly deteriorate alone without compassion from the world, yet chooses Raoul because she doesn't want to be trapped inside Erik's love and that she knows it is the right choice to turn away from Raoul is madly in love with her also, and he yearns to protect her from Erik's plans to have her for himself because he sees the things Erik does wrong and wants to save Christine. They both love her so much and would do anything to have her, and the portrayal of these characters are very raw. This story does not have a happy ending, and it should not have a happy ending ever, and every character has their own struggles, fear and pain, which gives this story much more depth and I absolutely adore. Erik and Christine shares a story we cannot deny, and that Erik truly loves her so much that he let her go, and it's painful to see her walk away, but it was the right choice, and she would have a better life with Raoul. Also I completely understand why people dislike LND so much since it detached itself from the original heartbreaking story but I viewed LND as a separate story from Phantom (I know it's the sequel) because it's so much better independently. I haven't had the chance to watch the musical yet but from the plot analysis and from listening to the songs I kinda have an idea of the specific story but I will not display my opinion on LND I'm just stating mine about Phantom. I'm quite certain I made no sense in this comment but congratulations if you have had the patience to finish this comment. Much love~
My sentiments EXACTLY! That's definitely one big reason it's lasted 30+ years. It perfectly tears us down the middle over what to feel for Erik. On the one hand, he kills several people, deceives and stalks Christine, kidnaps her twice, and threatens to kill her fiance. On the other, Christine and we as well can't stay mad at him because we finally see him for who he is, not an angel of music, but an incredibly deeply broken man. He's like an abused dog that was forced to fight cage matches all its life. And you have to admit, even though we don't like what he's become, being forced to live a lifetime of abuse, rejection, and cruelty probably would make someone kind of insane. That to me is the real tragedy. That he was this incredibly gifted man but was subjected to a life like this simply because he looked abhorrent in the eyes of the world, and he decided it was better to be feared if he could not be loved. There's even this great line from the original book. "He had a heart that could have held an empire, but in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar." And I completely agree. Had the story ended with Christine staying with the Phantom, it just would not have worked. The Phantom has an idea of what love is, if a very broken one. But he ultimately learns that real love is willing to let go. It's unfortunate but sometimes real love hurts. But when you truly love someone, you care about their wellbeing more than the pain it might bring you. Plus it feels like (in some of the fandom anyway) that the Phantom's virtues get blown out of proportion just like Raoul's flaws get blown out of proportion. To be fair, Raoul can be either really good or really bland depending on who's playing him. Speaking of which, I applaud you Hadley Fraser! You can like LND if you want (within reason), but as for the rest of us (most anyway) we do not speak of that glorified fanfiction. Seriously though, when I read the plot, I was like, "Oh my gosh is this real?!" And who ever says Erik deteriorates from loneliness? He commits suicide in the original book but in the musical he pulls his vanishing act, leaving behind only his mask. I love that because it leaves it open-ended. We don't know what ultimately happened to him, which I think fits him. But it's clear that he left the mask behind on purpose as if to say that part of his life was now over. Shameless plug, but I'm actually working on what could be my debut fiction novel. It's a retelling of sorts of "Phantom" (but it doesn't completely rely on either the original book or the musical). I'm kinda doing the same thing you are. I thought of it with the intention of giving Erik the happy ending he never got, but one that feels earned.
@@hetalianotaku7103 "He's like an abused dog that was forced to fight cage matches all its life." AHH! All my feelings about the Phantom crystalized... I haven't read the book yet, I am soon, but I also read the Wikipedia synopsis--my reaction: CONEY ISLAND?!? MEG in love with ERIK?!!?!?! RAOUL A CREEP?!??! MR. "X"!?!
This is my favorite part of the show. It makes me cry like a child. Ramin has such a wondering voice! And when he sings along with Sierra is just... Perfect! I Wish that Phanton and Christine would be together
I'd just like to pop in and point out that Christine was throwing a gigantic fit during this song, and I love it. In the 2004 movie she was so calm. Emmy was the perfect picture of pretty and domesticated. And I'm no feminist, but I think she should have freaked out more, been less tame. If it had been me I would have jumped on Erik, hit, kicked, etc. All heck would break lose. He would hurt me, but wouldn't kill me. Maybe I'm overestimating my abilities, but it would distract him enough, and Raoul would help. Still, there are consequences to him helping. In any case, I would have jumped to violence right off the bat.
I wonder if a new cast could top this at the 30th, it seems so blurry. I feel like a hurricane just passed by me and destroyed my well being. This is art, this is absolutely the most exquisite form of art.
The part of this song that makes me cry the most is the right after ramin belts out the last note of the show and from there on the mixture of his voice and the emotional instrumentals fuck me up 😩😩
did anyone else catch how he whispers the word "blindly", disbelievingly, right after Christine says it at 6:50? You can also catch him saying "damn it" under his breath right after Christine pulls his hood off at the end of The Point of No Return. Ramin's not my fav phantom because I think he waaayyy "over-acts" the part, but at the same time he adds these subtle bits to the character that I just freaking love.
I feel like I'm the only person who goes for Raoul. Usually I don't chose the mainstream guy and I thought I would go for the phantom. But I went for Raoul. Hadley Fraser did an amazing job and so did Ramin but I felt more in love with Raoul. Even though I love them both very much. Idk I just feel like everyone one goes for the phantom and I'm literally all alone going for Raoul. XD but anyways the whole thing in general was freaking amazing and I'm watching it on disc 24/7 :3 im obsessed
Now if we are talking about the movies. Both of them are weirdos and christine should’ve left them both. Now this version of Raoul that Hadley Fraser interprets is so much richer. It really feels like he truly loves her and Christine loves him. They have to deal with challenges and Raoul saying he would die to let her be free just proves who is #1. The phantom trapped her and made her feel like she had to love him. Her kidnapper. That’s messed up. I’ve always felt that the Phantom was truly like a father to her but she emphasized with him. Showing him compassion. This whole thing that they are in love is a bit concerning when he is a stalker/also it kind of reminds me of the disgust and cringe I had when I figured out someone had a kid with Palpatine.
Ramin literally goes from SCREAM IM MAD IDK WHAT TO DO AHHHHHH to being absolutely broken "masqueradeeee paper faces on parradeee, hide your face so the world... will never find you" to sounding so beautiful "christine i looooove youuuu" im SOBBING
"outed out by everyone, met with hatred everywhere, no kind word from anyone, no compassion anywhere" I love that line, it ads so much more dimensions to the phantom, i also like the line "the world showed no compassion to me!" For the same reason
0:48: "christine! christine why? why?!" my freaking heart♥♥♥ 9:43 - 10:30: his screaming sounds so realistic and you're literally experiencing the pain along with him ahhh 11:36 - 11:52: "christine i looove you" i'm actually dying his voice is so good and heartbreaking
How the HECK, is Ramin able to scream bloody murder at one moment, and just shortly afterwards, flawlessly belt out the final note??? His talent is unparalleled.
Hyperspace Oddity
Honestly, that’s me when I’m reciting The Phantom Of The Opera lol but I can’t do it with a straight face or without crying or chugging a lot of water. He can’t do any of those things so I’m not sure what his secret is but I’d love to know it lol
Boi can do screamo at this point... I’m shook
Ramin truly was versatile in the 25th.

An unparalleled delight :)
Christine's last sung word is "morning", while Erik's is "night". My heart...

You just broke my heart in a million pieces...
+Arlie Daniel oh my god my heart
+Arlie Daniel I could have gone my whole life without realizing this...
but Phantom is saying "it's over now the music of the night." he will no longer live in the dark and would be more than willing to live with Christine in the light. whether she knew it or not, he was always there for her. and will continue to be.
Holy crap!!! Mind blown! 😱
I really wish Gerard Butler would've done the end like Ramin. That "go now and leave me" is simply incredible
Their performances are amazing and their chemistry is off the charts. I love Ramin as Erik.
Ikr. This is why Ramin is no doubt the best phantom. And to think some people say that Gerard is better than Ramin. Lol

It's sad, but I can relate to this. Not on the same level as the phantom of course, but I can.

I'm super eager to see who will preform for the 50th o_o
I read that Ramin wished that Sierra was his sister
WinterNightingale It really gets at how life-or-death this scene is. Some interpretations just depend on the words themselves, but these three make it come to life. Chills every time
@@scotthamp384 Then Ramin would be kissing his sister in the play. Blech!

+kamille reyes This part breaks my heart too
I feel like the nod is more of a 'you're free' :(
I just always feel like Christine never loved Raoul she was just so scared but did truly love Erik, and her turning back was her saying she needed him but Raoul just led her to the light.

Ayden Wolfe I think it's beautiful how the phantom frees her
I love the way Sierra says " you deceived me" . Gives me chills!!!
+Kathrin Bizzarro same here.
It's sad to see all these melodies from happy and romantic songs being used in this context. Angel of music, The music of the night, All I ask of you and a freakin' sad reprise of Masquerade? Best part of the show, honestly.
AND HE DOESN'T EVEN GET HER IN THE END! LIKE WE GO THROUGH THAT FOR NOTHING! Its just like you love it but you hate it so much.
Probably my favourite scene from any musical. Also Point of no Return goes from a seductive passionate song to one of death. "For either way you choose you cannot win"
Andrew Lloyd Webber should have included a "Think of Me" reprise sung by the phantom when Christine returns the ring.
Elisa Edwards but then you have Love Never Dies which completely through that out the window.
That Kid Is Not Here I haven't seen love never dies? I have the dvd though. Is it actually any good?
Elisa Edwards NO! NO IT ISN'T! Just read the plot on Wikipedia or somewhere and you'll see all of this musical's flaws
That Kid Is Not Here it's got some beautiful music though, you can't deny that
Jw McFarland Yeah, that is true, but the rest of the musical is just garbage.
Boy howdy I love SO many things about this finale:
-How scared and desperate Raoul sounds when he says "Let me see her!!!"
-The anger in Christine's voice at "The tears I might have shed for your dark fate, grow cold and turn to tears of hate!"
-All three of their voices clashing together and yet somehow blending in flawlessly (it shouldn't work but it does)
-The Phantom beginning to lose his strength at the last "You've passed the point of no return"
-Christine sounding tired as well when she says "You deceived me! I gave my mind blindly!"
-If you listen REALLY closely, the Phantom repeats the word "Blindly" very softly to himself.
If they're gonna, they better hurry...
They used them for Love Never Dies (ick), so they ought to remake POTO.
I agree with you 100%! This will always be my number one favorite musical! And there is a movie adaptation, it’s from 2004 with Emmy Rossum as Christine, Patrick a Wilson as Raoul and Gerard Butler as Phantom.
@@caspergabriella1775 Yes, but it sucks.
@@marlinotalvaro7431 No it doesn’t. It may for you but I loved it!
Let me add with what I love
-Like very songs motif being used
-The Phantom’s voice during the welcoming being smarmy because he knows he’s cornered Raoul
-How Ramin is perfectly able to blend fury and sadness at the beginning of Point of no return, as he sounds absolutely desperate
-The Phantom of the Opera (Song) is only used by the Mob which is a juxtaposition to how it was always used to cue the Phantom
-Ramin screaming.
WHYYYYYYYYY?!!''
Also, did anyone else notice how the Phantom mutters ''blindly...'' at 6:50 ?

+Emmi Kostiainen I think he groans in passion and despair. It's gut wrenching and exhilarating at the same time! I'm so glad someone else heard it!
emmuuz c he mutters "damn".
Natasha James I think he mutters 'turn' as to finish 'return'
Another thing that makes him losing his mind in this scene so much more real is when Erik chokes Christine. That was during the scene where it went:
"Free her! Do what you will only free her! Have you no pity?!"
"Your lover makes a passionate plea!"
* Christine gasps *
"Please Raoul, it's useless!"
Then after that part, he sees what he did and steps back in regret.
GO!!!!!!! GO NOW AND LEEEAAAVE MEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!"
Jeez Ramin! Freaking amazing! Such chills! :O :D

I actually just saw the USA tour, and I will always admire how this phantom says those lines. I feel no other phantom can nail those few words like this one. I die a little when his heart is broken :( amazing performance.

Ah, I would go see it this month but the tickets are so expensive.
+LittleClarinetPlayer The benefit of going to see theatre in Toronto, London's West End, etc, the theatre is actually accessible to the masses (financially *and* physically).
That part killed me! Like wow!!! 💔
I love how Ramin portrayed the brokenness of the phantom, and how he nodds his head at Christine at the end letting her go....it makes me cry. its so beautiful and tragic.
Phantom: Christine why!? WHY!?
Me: I-I don't know, man...I don't know...
This is - exactly - what my friend and I said.
@@AlashiaTuol Agree!
Probably because he kidnapped her and killed people?
"Christine, I love you..."
*curls up into a ball on the floor and sobs uncontrollably* DAMMIT CHRISTINE...WHY?!
+Megan Burrell Every. Single. Time.
i must say: fuck the answer she say
+Neo “Crime and Ice Cream Queen” Torchwick
Definitely the right decision. I think Erik realised he wouldn't be happy forcing her into it either.
It's so unsettling to hear the same beautiful melody used in "Music of the Night" being used again, only this time the words include "down that path into darkness deep as hell" and "this face which earned a mother's fear and loathing."
And then the most heart wrenching part: "You alone can make my song take flight, it's over now, the music of the night!"

I just love the broken voice that's used when Raoul says, "LET ME SEE HER!" It's so sad and beautiful.
"The tears I might have shed for your dark fate grow cold, and turn to tears of hate" is one of the most powerful moments of this performance. When you see Sierra's face you're just slapped with the pure, raw emotion she produces, only to amplify such powerful vocals. Such an amazing performer.
9:46-10:50 Ramin stole the show. I felt horrible for his vocal chords when he started "screaming". Oh the feels!
I know how it feels to scream so much on stage (I'm in a theatre production too and all I do is scream) my throat hurts all day after every rehearsal, so I have A LOT of respect for Ramin.

Thank you!!!

I love the fact that Hadley's lines went "Say you love him and my life is over" It really means that Christine is his life and by her saving him, he would be numb and heartbroken at the same time. Though it's ironic that his life would be over as well if she said no

Gorgeous line. Christ
eyo fellow kazuha stan
10:13 is the sole reason that Michael Crawford has been knocked down to second on my list.

Sarah Glover Sarah Glover GOOD QUESTION!
My guess is either John Owen Jones for his vocals alone or Hugh Panaro for his psychopathic portrayal of the character

"Christine, I love you..."
I cry up every single time, it's such a heart breaking moment because he's never been shown love and this woman who he has finally let in and he has shown her everything and she doesn't love him back... It's absolutely performed to perfection and it completely and utterly breaks my heart.
it's so hard to listen to the final song in phantom... I just can't.. whenever I watch I cry so hard...
ME TOO
especially when Ramins voice cracks :'(
Just listening to it makes me cry... imagine watching it.
The complete brokenness is Raoul's voicr when he screams, "Let me see her!" It gets me everytime. It's so full of raw emotion and reminds me why this is my favorite production.
It's over now my soul and heart just died...
No joke, I just sang that.

The way he sings "Hell" is AMAZING
I know right! I feel the raw emotion in that and feel so much for this phantom. Then when it cuts to the soft melody of masquerade I feel my heart clench. Amazing performance by this phantom in my opinion.
+ZainR I was thinking the exact same thing! That part gave me chills.
so far the most emotional hell I've ever heard of.
It is so intense and conveys every pain possible in that moment
"The tears I might have shed for your dark fate grow cold and turn to tears of hate! "
For anybody who dares to say Christine is a Mary Sue. 😎😍
I heard this live a few days ago and it crushed me when Erik sang 'It's over now the music of the night'. Even now it still makes me sob like a child
How to absolutely destroy me in 15 minutes
K8 The most complete emotional rollercoaster
How to get thru this song properly:
1. Curl up in a ball
2. Try not to cry
3. Cry a lot
when sierra starts to lead in with "Angel of music who deserves this" and everything just blends together it sounds AMAZING! People really don't give Hadley enough credit for this. They are all absolutely outstanding and blend perfectly together!
When Ramin whispers "I love you" it just breaks my heart. It's so beautiful
Masquerade, paper faces on parade. Masquerade. Hide your face so the world will never find you. Christine I love you...
I love how after she says I gave my mind blindly he whispers "blindly?"

+homeiswonderland I'm a musician and I agree with you.
Most people: talking about their favorite part
Me: am I the only one who gets really sad at "Masquerade paper faces on parade, masquerade, hide your face so the world will never find you."
Nope. :') That's when I start choking up...

The film (tho it was my first introduction to this musical) was a dull shadow of this play's power and color.
Does Ramin say "I love you" under his breath at 12:45 ?
Looks like you found a little easter egg.
I always thought he was saying "follow you" simultaneously to Raoul
I'm tearing up even more now. God damn it.
I think he says "I love you.. go.." under his breath.
I NEVER NOTICED!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE! I WOULD HAVE NEEDED MY HEART
The phantom needs some therapy.
I'm pretty sure, like everyone in Phantom of the Opera, needs some therapy...
And a hug.
Seriously. The fact that we care about a serial murderer says a lot about the power of this musical and good performances.
GO NOW AND LEAVE MEEEEEEEEE... man...
Sure, but maybe he's a little forgone... I mean.. I kinda reach a limit after murder, get me ? ;)
Every time I hear Ramin say "You try...my patience?" I get chills down my spine
When was that? Sorry I'm not good at listening.

The phantom would be broken and fully obsessed if Christine had any second thoughts.
that growl during "turn around and face your fate" tho
the last note...CHILLS EVERYWHERE
At 6:24, you can just hear all the millions of emotions! Especially when Christine sings " Why do you curse mercy? " It's just one of the most emotional moments, full of anger, regret, helplessness, and a million other emotions. They are just so good!
when they said: we wanted a perfect cast, they delivered. Ramin, Sierra, and Hadley were all perfect!
You expanded you range THAT MUCH ? Omg HOW ?
I love how they slowed down the "Christine, I love you" bit. So much more moving in the way they draw out them sad notes. *sniff sniff*

It worries me deeply how much people hate Raoul for saving Christine from her frickin stockholm syndrome for the Phantom, who is a psycho, a murderer, and an abuser
Lydia Hazen You are right
It's fiction.
Can't help but think someone's broke ramins heart before

2:47 I simply adore that “turn around!” What a charisma
'I tried so hard to free you' 😑 yah right.
I always thought that! Like, you didn't really try that hard, Raoul xD
Ikr? 'Free her'?
You don't see it in any of the movies or the musical, but Raoul and Christine are together for a year during the transmission, discussed during the Masquerade. So it is assumed Raoul was attempting to get Christine away all of that time, while she was still fearful about leaving Erik.
Ivy Nickles fort
Ivy Nickles reeaaadd book
"He had a heart that could have held an empire, but in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar."
And I completely agree.
Seriously though, when I read the plot, I was like, "Oh my gosh is this real?!"
And who ever says Erik deteriorates from loneliness?

"He's like an abused dog that was forced to fight cage matches all its life."
AHH! All my feelings about the Phantom crystalized...
I haven't read the book yet, I am soon, but I also read the Wikipedia synopsis--my reaction:
CONEY ISLAND?!?
Gia Gabrinao they didn't top it as I don't think that Ben Foster was as good as Ramin but Nadim Naaman is amazing as Raoul, he had me in tears!
Ramin's not my fav phantom because I think he waaayyy "over-acts" the part, but at the same time he adds these subtle bits to the character that I just freaking love.
toasty salt he actually said "-turn" since he didn't finish singing return due to christine taking off his hood
Ramin is pure brilliance as the Phantom. There is no one better.
+ItsLibby You aren't alone! I am in love wih both, but if you look at how Hadley interprets him, it's just absolutely stunning!
I am always pro Phantom. I despise the Raoul character. However, Hadley's interpretation is phenomenal.
"outed out by everyone, met with hatred everywhere, no kind word from anyone, no compassion anywhere"
I love that line, it ads so much more dimensions to the phantom, i also like the line "the world showed no compassion to me!" For the same reason
0:48: "christine! christine why? why?!" my freaking heart♥♥♥
