I don't buy Seiko watches myself but I wholeheartedly salute everything Seiko does because it makes Swiss brands to do something about it. I'm grateful for sub $500 Seiko 5 GMT mostly because its appearance on a market urged Swiss brands to drop prices for their own GMT models.
I totally concur. Brands like Seiko illustrate how much value and craftsmanship you can put into watches without making the price reach astronomical proportions. For far too long, Swiss watch brands have been coasting on their heritage and prestige, and their exorbitant prices were uncoupled from the value they offered. Brands, like Seiko, are starting to imbue these old Swiss icons with some much needed financial humility.
Seiko has been showing how silly the Swiss watch industry is since the 60's. Their early high-beat movements set fire to the Swiss house of accuracy only to later destroy it with a quartz bomb. The Swiss, no longer the most accurate, had to move upscale to survive. Seiko followed them into the upscale market by adding Grand to their name and pumping up the quality at a reasonable price. Don’t sleep on Seiko….
15:35 - in reference to the Hamilton - 'I need to contemplate it a little but further because its £820'. This is why Watchfinder is and always will be my favourite watch related channel. Some watches I see on here are amazing - and have amazingly high prices to go with their gorgeous designs, materials & complications. Some RUclipsrs will host shows wearing a minimum of £10K on their wrist. They're great and all, but for some a little out of reach. The line I quoted above is the epitome of why I love this channel. They can be in the same awe as us regular consumers at some of the very expensive timepieces out there, but £820 is a lot of money for a lot of people. To hear it from a host on this channel makes it feel as though they're not world's apart from regular peons who struggle to afford £820 on a wristwatch. Let's hope 2023 brings us even more timepieces so your dulcet tones can grace my ears once again 😁
£745 will buy the Hamilton 38mm Khaki Field Bronze. Mine's starting to patinate nicely. There are 20 38mm Khaki Field options on the Hamilton site, including a titanium auto at £820
Thank you for mentioning Christopher Ward at the end. Their Bel Canto, not to mention their other time pieces, are really doing the watch community a great service. Christopher Ward is demonstrating that you really can infuse time pieces with great Swiss artistry and quality, and still make them financially accessible.
I could listen to you two guys talk about watches all evening. Looking forward to your videos in 2022! As far as the watches addressed in this video, I loved the Grand Seiko Kodo Tourbillion, the Vacheron Constantin 222, and the Christopher Ward Bel Canto. The Bel Canto is amazing for what they have been able to create for a price that makes it available to the average collector. As for the one I love that I can afford, it's the Hamilton 'Murph' (I have a real soft spot in my heart for Hamiltons).
I love that the Seiko 5 GMT has been showing up so much in various top # lists of 2022. Makes it even better when I hear u guys mention it being £400 and I picked mine up for £275, just a bit more than the RRP of the standard Seiko 5!
Great recap of 2022. I’m glad to see the Seiko 5 GMT made the cut! My favorite is the Grand Seiko constant force Tourbillon, it’s a work of art and an engineering masterpiece.
Nailed it with No 1 no risk. The Disruptor. Amazing. One I think you missed: Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante. Unique complication in an elegant and understated watch. Sublime piece even if it's the sort of money I spent on my car.
Glad to see the Seiko SKX GMT getting a spot since it is the only watch in the list I could afford & find anywhere 😂 (Well I can also afford and find the Hamilton murph but I don't need a field watch for the moment) May I also name two watches : Seiko's SSC813 or SSC911 (same style, 911 has bigger dial and some detail differences) as probably the best affordable Rolex Daytona alternative, and Longines Spirit Zulu Time for the style, price and true GMT movement. And wish all the watch fans reading this comment a fruitful 2023! Keep watch-ing!
Not sure if it was released this year, but the Longines spirit 37 mm really convinced me as a perfect wear for anything. Also, you could ramble just about anything, I'm here for the voice
Totally agree with the Christopher Ward C1 Bel Canto. The rest of the selections are also impressive, and each watch either showed the ingenuity of watch makers and their technical prowess, or their willingness to listen to their customers.
The Cartier may look like a head-scratcher, but it appears to be inspired by the Le Rhone Rotary aircraft engine of World War I fame, a German copy of which by Oberusel powered the Red Baron’s Triplane. This engine’s crankshaft was fixed to the aircraft and the cylinder block and propeller spun around it. Seems to me Cartier liked this design concept and used it here.
Great to see the Bel Canto getting the recognition it so richly deserves. It's an incredible watch and I'm lucky enough to own number 035 of the 300 blues.
Lucky enough to pick up a BB Pro earlier this year and have the Turquoise/Light Blue Bel Canto on order. Great review as always. Let’s hope 2023 brings some innovation and that Rolex can think beyond a bezel colour change.
I wonder if the Omega Chime ACTUALLY had the compromise by the Swatch group that before they would provide funding for it that they would have to do the MoonSwatch collaboration?
Great video (again)! So many choices but I loved the comments and jokes. As a visual piece I thought the Van Cleef & Arpels looked both amazing technically and visually beautiful. And not as expensive as say a plastic RM!
It’s a very tough choice if you play the game of …….you can only take one home, and price isn’t a factor . I think the Patek , but it’s a tough decision . Swap the strap out on the Hamilton for something close to the colour of the one on the Patek and you get a not dissimilar vibe, and the Cartier is a beautiful dress watch (that I don’t need) . Great video . Best wishes to everyone for the New Year
Hats off to the final winner, so, so pleased you had that one at the top. Easily my top pick too! And I also note the similarity in look between the Patek and Murph watches? My Math says there is more of a difference in their prices… Keep up the great videos, guys, and keep well :-)
My favorite watch of the year was that Cartier. I love Cartier and am sick of people disrespecting them. Them I show them THIS and watch their brains melt
I agree. Well done boys. My wife bought me a micro brand William Wood that comes with a fantastic watch roll, not a useless box. What do you think? Thanks
Nice fun video Next time if possible, how about 5 insane watches no one will ever get and ten realistic best watches of 22? Party pooper perhaps but what I think. I loved the mark xx and the mistflake But the bel canto is a wonderful choice delighted for them
It really makes you wonder about Omega and the Chime Chrono. They are part of the swatch group and it really makes you wonder who gets what complication when. I assume omega themselves didn’t make it, but the larger swatch group?
Your assortment is spot on, but the tarmac dial comment was a bit harsh. Even for a rube like me. Thierry Stern’s children collaborated on this watch, which I think is killer. Google an old school Leica camera frame and then you’ll know.
I don't think it was meant as a criticism, but just a joke. I got a good laugh but if I could afford one, I'd sure consider it! Now if they'd offer it with a few optional dial colors.
The Murph is not a Murph because it lacks the morse code. The Cooper is better anyway. Other than that the 222 and the BB Pro are great. And the Belcanto is just stunning… My 2022 watch is the Ranger. I wear it 24/7. Thanks a lot, have a great 2023!
My one watch for life considering value, prestige and overall simplicity is Rolex explorer I, two tone 2021. I got rid of every other watch in my collection. Dress or sports watch. Done and relaxing somewhere on the beach bar.! 💯🤔
The Seiko GMT is cool and all, but I wouldn't trade my Bulova Wilton GMT for it in a second. Its a true GMT and it doesn't look like every other sports watch in the world. Just say'n
I don't own a GS and never have, but if price was no object, this GS Kodo would be my pick out of all the watches in this video. As for the Bvlgari and RM, though i respect the engineering...isn't a wafer thin watch a solution in search of a problem? Personally I like the three dimensionality of a watch, to be enjoyed from all angles. Not to mention the fact that an extraordinarily-thin watch would be much more vulnerable to damage.
The Bulgari as a watch is not a design I'd want to wear, but it is indeed incredible to see what the engineers were able to create. That said, I find the Cartier even more interesting, in that I keep wondering HOW they are able to create a static display with all the movement located in the rotor. And it IS a watch I'd consider wearing on special occasions. A real conversation piece. A pain to tell the time, but it's a stunner!
I'm considering Breitling Chronomat 40mm GMT in black.... that bracelet, that crown, the decent size, 200m water resist... its actually a great watch.... need to try it on, and no butt kissing at the AD to get one
My favourite watch of the year is the Atelier Wen Perception. This model marks the moment in time when the world can finally appreciate that China is able to produce a world-class luxury watch of original design using local talent and manufacturing.
Guys, just here to say my wife who is eternally sick of my watch collection got me a Mr. Jones for Christmas. Good chance you may be the reason. Cheers
Good list but when a plethora of Traveller GMT's containing the new Miyota 9075 movement appear for $500 or less in 2023 the Seiko will seem a lot less ground breaking. The "Murph" is a watch only an Interstellar nerd would pay a premium for over the amazing well priced Khaki Field/King/Mechanical.
"That QR code takes you to the Richard Millle page now I think." haha loved that one🤣🤣
Literally the best joke he has EVER made!!!! 😂
💀 😂

Problem is their Japanese design. They just don't have the appeal in markets outside of Asia.
@@vex123
That checks out, no one owns Seiko outside of Asia. No, wait, that doesn’t hold water. Seiko is one of the most popular brands in the world.
@@vex123you mean they don’t appeal to you.
Love the dial on that Patek. The GS Kodo takes the #1 spot for me. Incredible piece of horology
The car park line had me cracking up when compared with the inspiration of the GS dials 😂
The dial is the worst part, difficult to look at without thinking of a tar pit

@@mineblock9024 hahahaha. I've have a few of the old models, probably from 10+ years ago and I liked them.
Homage watches
@@timak74 Pathetic comment, you obviously don't know their watches, both past and present.

My favourite of 2022 is the Seiko 5KX GMT I managed to bag for £250 quid, in a Black Friday sale.

Same here.
The Longines Spirit Zulu is indeed a beauty, and that rare find...an affordable luxury watch!
You guys are awesome. Love your videos. Informative and humorous. Great job guys👍👍👍
The Mass Mysterieuse and the Seiko Kodo have been the best surprises this year. In my opinion.
The qr code joke was an absolute cracker 🤣 another great one fellas!👍
I love something in every one of the watches shown. There's something great for just about all watch enthusiasts.
Black Bay Pro is goated, I wish they had gave it a better name, wearing one right now.
Not sure if it was released this year, but the Longines spirit 37 mm really convinced me as a perfect wear for anything. Also, you could ramble just about anything, I'm here for the voice

I do agree! I am still waiting for my C1 BelCanto to arrive and thrilled to be able to admire it soon now on ly wrist!
Lucky you. How I envy you
I wonder if the Omega Chime ACTUALLY had the compromise by the Swatch group that before they would provide funding for it that they would have to do the MoonSwatch collaboration?
The constant force mechanism by grand seiko is just incredible
As always... Great video!
I’m happy mechanical watches are still made. Many nice of them here. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
'Last is best,' by far, if its price is as fair as you both seem to indicate for the brilliance that watch exhibits, in my view. Wow!
I think the Longines Zulu Time especially the green is amazing
Great video (again)! So many choices but I loved the comments and jokes. As a visual piece I thought the Van Cleef & Arpels looked both amazing technically and visually beautiful. And not as expensive as say a plastic RM!

I knew that Patek Calatrava looked familiar. The Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic watches. One I can afford, one I can dream of!
this is the best thing about my mondays
The kodo is truly spectacular, and imo best enjoyed in the 43 case❤
Love listening to you guys...excellent rapport and interaction with each other 👍🏼
"The QR code takes you to the Richard Mille page now..."
Gold!🥇
Lol
Absolutely stunning year for watches!!
The Richard Mille has a great start, I can only hope they improve the looks from here on.
"The QR code takes you to the Richard Mille page...." Brutal, yet funny.
What an awesome selection of watches, I'd wear any of them with the exception of the garden/diamond artwork.
When you drive your car into the sea, try to do it from a really high bridge.
Straight up cool
No space for the Richard Lange Minute Repeater 😮, second time you’ve forgotten it 🤣🤣
I’ve just pre ordered a black CW Bel Canto. I can’t wait to get it. I00% agree, it’s the best watch of 2022.
I am so glad nothing was affordable. Saved me thousands.
Agree I have this watch, great piece but could have done with a better name
$895 for the Murph is not affordable???
What about the £400 Seiko 5 GMT in the video? That's not affordable?
Great selection of good watches. Thank you.
What a great year. Five minutes to twelve the Maen Manhattan 37 appeared and stole the whole show 🎉
My favorite watch of the year was that Cartier. I love Cartier and am sick of people disrespecting them. Them I show them THIS and watch their brains melt

The only watch I bought this year for myself was the Niwa Lunokhod after seeing it on this channel. Such a cool thing for $400.
Fully agree about the CW, it's the one watch I want in 2023. Not that i'll only buy 1 watch that would be silly
The QR code joke was fine as a tripple axis Tourbillon..🤣😂🤣🤣🤣

Next time if possible, how about 5 insane watches no one will ever get and ten realistic best watches of 22?
Party pooper perhaps but what I think.
I loved the mark xx and the mistflake
But the bel canto is a wonderful choice delighted for them
Question: What about the Longines Zulu time grey/green!? This should be on the list too!
I was drooling most of the time…
Tarmac dial… now that’s my kind of humor. Lots of fun layers there lol
It really makes you wonder about Omega and the Chime Chrono. They are part of the swatch group and it really makes you wonder who gets what complication when. I assume omega themselves didn’t make it, but the larger swatch group?
Excellent job done ✅
Thank you for not listing the Swatch group's marketing marvel with shitty product as many other youtube clickbaiters did. Happy new year!
I really must insist that the Hamilton 38mm 'Murph' be referred to as the "sMurph"

My 2022 watch is the Ranger. I wear it 24/7.
Thanks a lot, have a great 2023!
The Cartier is pretty much the coolest watch I´ve ever seen...
My favorite watch is the Tissot PRX Chrono that I bought (“white” dial)
One of the watches isn't listed in the description.
And it's the best for me as well.
My one watch for life considering value, prestige and overall simplicity is Rolex explorer I, two tone 2021. I got rid of every other watch in my collection. Dress or sports watch. Done and relaxing somewhere on the beach bar.! 💯🤔
Not the average pick, but I really like the Laco Oliv limited edition watches that came out
Can’t believe you didn’t mention the JLC Celestrial complications or the new Navitimer.
Please use timestamp with featured watches. That way easier for people who want to remember or make a list for future consideration
Tudor, Patek Philippe, Hamilton and Seiko out!
I expected to see Bel Canto from C.W in the list. But anyway great video.
the bel canto is really really amazing !!!!
Usually you would see some debate, but this year everyone I know of agrees the Bel Canto is the Watch of the Year.
its amazing how these watch brands racing against each other just to catch the tail lights of Rolex level of innovation
That flower watch, a bouquet on the wrist.
Y’all need to bring on James May and do a watch Top Gear type thing! 💯💯
Murph Murph Murph!!
The Oris Pro PilotX and the the Grand Seiko SBGY009
GS by far
Trilobe Crazy Day needs to be on this list
I miss the old background music and wise man voice
the dial of the patek isn't supposed to represent a motorway.
Rather, the material and texture of a retro camera.
Dan Henry's new Cartier balloon style watch.... it's just not for men. But still, that's great value.
Not a fanboy but that grand Seiko is beautiful
I need to reassess my grail list now.
Tissot PRX Chronograph was a good watch released in 2022.
My favourite this year is Rolex Ari-King 126900. Finally Rolex makes this watch symmetric and nicely lumed.

The Grand Seiko and the Cartier. All day
