This is a great display of how much work it takes to get a resin piece polished. I make resin castings mostly on my lathe where it is much quicker to get through all the grades of paper and micro mesh. People just don't realize how much work goes into getting a scratch free surface!
@@donovanbryan5000 It's like that for all crafts. You should hear crocheters and knitters complain about people who want them to make a sweater or large blanket for free, as if it will take just an hour or so to make, not to mention the cost of the yarn. Like that blanket used $150 in yarn, and I spent 200 hours making it, and you want to pay me $50? No. Not a chance. A friend of mine is an artist, and he sometimes does business for other artists. They never quibble about his prices because they know what it takes to make the piece.

Great video, thank you. I am about to start flower preservation in resin and I'd like to ask a question... I might be totally wrong but in this video, there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between the unsanded work and the final one. So, what's the point of sanding the resin work with 80 grit and then trying to get rid of the scratches caused by it? Why don't you just use the 2000 or 2500 grit sandpaper and then the polishig paste? Thanks.
Good idea with the pattern as a reference for how polished it is. Edit: I never knew that you were supposed to go perpendicular to how you sanded it one way, now I understand, I have a much better idea of how to do it, thanks so much!
How much height did you end up removing from the block after that full sanding process, compared to the unsanded one? Just curious... This was great to watch and see the whole thing from start to finish.
That IS a good question because at 13:36 it looks like a lot of material is missing but this is deceptive as the comparison is between two differently poured blocks.
Great video! I did something similar to a wasp hive I shaped into an egg on my lathe, where I documented each grit and took a picture of what it looked like from 400 grit to 12000 grit and polished. Usually I sand in a circular pattern but going perpendicular is the best way to male sure you got the previous grit out. Again, amazing video man!
This is how resin should be finished, by sanding, cutting and polishing. I use to work for a company that did resin moulded kitchen, bar and table tops. It drives me nuts when I see RUclipsrs do flood pouring leaving dribble down the side or when they roughly sand and just spray cloudy varnish over the top
Can you help me with a resin project that I think I messed up on? It’s on a skateboard but there are places that the resin didn’t level and it’s now rough in that specific spot with bubbles. If I sand too much, I ruin the artwork I was trying to preserve to begin with! How can I fix this? Any help would be much appreciated😊
That was a lovely tutorial. Very helpful. But I have a question. Why is it important to sand the resin. Because when you unmould them they are shiny already
