Hi 👋, T,L,R,D. Great looking 👀 Tables, I am thinking about having a go later in the year, great territorial on explaining the process of making your Tables , I have just realised that it is your young lady that shows the Stihl MS881 , this a very good machine, And the Laser cutting machine, great job 😂 . I look 👀 forward to your next project, Stay Safe, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
Greetings from Humboldt County California. Just found your channel, researching for my first project. Lots of good information presented in a well thought out manner. I subscribed right away. On a personal note, I hope you are enjoying working with your Dad. I worked with mine and really miss his company.
Tables came out beautiful. I feel with each and every project you get a little better at sanding epoxy. Like you said learning from mistakes. That being said this has to be the best video I have seen in 3years explaining the process specially for a beginner that needs help . With that being said I run into the problem of the polishing part , Your wood here is separated pretty well from the epoxy not allowing polishing compound to get into the wood. For instance a checker board when polishing the wood gets so clogged up with compound the cleaning is terrible. And even wet sanding it often changes the color of the wood if too much water is required. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can seal the wood with before polishing and for wet sanding ? Thanks
Very nicely done! It’s great to see you use the Slab Mizer for smaller projects too. I get questions everyday about flattening small pieces. Another great video from TLRD!
Beautiful craftsmanship - very impressive! I do have a question regarding your finishing technique... specifically, you mention sanding and polishing "just the epoxy portions," which makes sense, but obviously there will be some overlap onto the adjacent wood. That being the case, do you go back after the final polish and take the wood "back down" by hand sanding carefully up to the line? If so, what is the final grit that gets used on the wood (since Rubio only recommends going to 180)? Thank you!
Beautiful table and wonderful instructions, Only thing i'm curious about is if the Rubio is actually doing something for the polished epoxy. Its a hard wax oil so is meant to absorb and cure into the wood, It obviously wouldn't be absorbing into the epoxy so is it creating a layer on top?
It'd be neat to put an actual fire-arm in there which you don't use anymore, or maybe it's got some sentimental value- could be a nice way to preserve/display it in a way that is safe. Might even make it look like it's firing by adding a bullet in just the right place and add some bubbles on purpose between it and the barrel. Then if you want a bit of a joke to it, add a little note 'break in case of emergency', and maybe have a hammer next to it in resin too- adds to the joke :P
Just found this channel, excellent video on polishing, mirrors my experience, was hoping to find a faster way,, I too use the grits to 10K and then polish. details on cleanliness are pure gold for those coming here to learn. I have an idea re the molds. Use what the fiberglass mold industry uses, air plugs. These are rubber nipples in the topside of the mold, and then compressed air is applied to a valve in the underside, to release the product. On large molds they use several nipples. Thanks for posting 1
Have you ever made an epoxy wood table finishing with Rubio and then an epoxy top coat? If so, do you have a video? I’m hearing varying opinions on the epoxy top top not adhering to the Rubio finish.

Beautiful!!! am working on my first resin table and it's pissing me off! I love your table and the way you explain it. I, unfortunately, have to go through household 6 to get equipment and that doesn't always work. I love the way you explain the sanding. One question though, if you were to do a table top epoxy, would you sand all the way to 10k grit? That's how I want to finish my POS, but I'm not sure of the steps. Thanks.
That's a great question. Hope it's ok to add my comment as I am interested in the response. Lots of great people and questions here in the comments! :)
Is there a risk of the epoxy getting too hot while sanding and causing damage? I was using a belt sander for the early rough part on my first attempt and it seemed to get pretty hot.
Nice tables and video. The multiple sanding grits seem a bit extra? Why not stop after 3k and compound and polish to finish? Just asking, I have never worked with polishing epoxy, only automotive applications. Thank you.
Hi. They turned out great! I've noticed that when I use a polish, I definitely need to ward off the wood with some tape to avoid it being absorbed into wood, since the finish (Rubio) doesn't look good if it absorbed any of polish. This is pretty hard and tricky when working with live edges that are super complex. Any ideas how to get the glass clear epoxy and satin wood in these projects without having to tape the wood away? Thanks! :))
Love the turnout on the tables, I’m new at this and wondering how to make something Ike a table at home ? How would we be able to cut the table down without that big machine?

I am wondering how you would approach something like this but with a wood surface that is already finished to liking. I want to try "Shou Sugi Ban" (burning and staining the wood grain) but I realize that the finishing and sanding would remove the burned and stained wood effect. Perhaps the approach is obvious but my brain is stalling out haha Love your vid and already convinced to subscribe, hopefully I may come across an answer to my question in some of your other video's. Nice table and it’s good to see people sanding and polishing pieces instead of just flood coating a piece and calling it finished or throwing a load of Rubio over epoxy and calling time on it . Also I’ve actually started from 400 grit before and finished on 3000 grit but I was previously sanding in between coats but I have started from 600 as well on a crystal clear flood coat so in some cases that 40 to 4000 grit is a bit of a myth .and trust me I know how to polish epoxy I’ve got good results with the polishing but it’s the trapped bubbles I get that does my head in but that’s because Ive used table top epoxy trying to cast but when I use the slow cure epoxy I get the better results. Man your resin is super clear you definitely know what you doing good to see 👌👌👌

Them epoxy tables turn out good. Question - so from start to finish it's a 6-Day process
We always run some packing tape down the seams of our molds as the epoxy does not stick to it. It also seals up any gaps in the mold
