Welcome back to The Kneady Homesteader Channel and today we are unboxing and test running the Presto Digital Electric Canner that can both pressure can as well as water bath can.....all without a cooktop! This baby just plugs in. It was so easy to use, so quiet, and if you are someone who struggles with carrying heavy canners and a lot of weight, this is the solution for you! Also, if you have an induction top or an electric stove top, where canning can be a little tricky, this also might be the perfect solution for you!

I LOVE this canner!!! I’ve used it for about a year now. Just a trick I learned. If you’re using cold ingredients in a cold canner, you can skip the “warm jars” section by holding down the “play” button. It will skip over that and move on to warming! You’re going to love this gadget!
Have had mine since the summer. I have opened a whole new world of canning things…beans, meat and broths…….totally love it❤️

Have had mine for about 4 years and love it! So many canners were against it when I first got mine but I use it anyway 😂. The government also allows preservatives and pesticides in our foods so...
Canners in other countries don't abide by FDA rules, and they're all still alive and canning; they even use old pickle jars and such; I use the Amish ways when water bathing, I don't want a pressure canner.

I bought this canner after seeing Rose Red Homestead’s testing videos and I’ve not regretted it one bit! I’ve canned so many things in my tiny motor home kitchen with this and it’s been a Godsend. 😊 My regular pressure canner would simply not fit on my camper stove! I had to get either a smaller pressure canner or get this and this was the winner. It’s so nice to have and I don’t have to babysit it either which is wonderful when I am out working in the garden. ☺️ I’ve gotten to preserve so many garden fresh foods I am so grateful to have this resource right now. I’ve used it so much my husband finally stopped fussing about the cost. 😂 He especially enjoys the canned green beans I grow each year so he’s no longer complaining. ☺️

Yes! Even though it cant water bath can quarts i can see how this would be handy for jams and jellies!

Yes to Rose Red Homestead! I tried to post all about Rose Red testing but the nay sayers were just not having it and some of my comments were deleted. Back in the day when pressure canners showed up on the scene, Im sure there were nay sayers too. I use the huge Presto canner when I have a large load but...I have 2 stove top pressure cookers that reach 240 degrees. Yes thats right, 'my pressure cooker reaches the correct temp. to kill botulism'. It is made in Germany by Fissler. For smaller loads I can load 5 1/2 pints or I have a smaller one that takes 4 1/2 pints. The thing I love about my Fissler pots is they are sooooo much faster to bring up to pressure and to cool down. They were very expensive but I use them constantly for canning and other pressure cooking. These babies will last a lifetime. Happy me. So, Im proud of you for going against the nay sayers because Im sure there will be some.
There have been a few ☺️ I am not sure if they watched the same video i did where on basic, straight ingredients the canner tested great! Not so good on thick foods like meat sauce but i dont can that so thats not a concern for me. People just need to make the safest choice for themselves. I definitely think this canner has a seat at the table, when used properly. ❤️
I would love some canning videos with this canner. I have been diagnosed with ALS and my days of standing at the stove and heavy lifting are short. This might be just what I need to keep canning!
you could actually set this somewhere where you could sit in a chair to watch it, if you need to. Like a kitchen table if you have an outlet near by! God bless you and all the pain you endure. I am sending you all my love!

Hi Heather, nice to see you back in action and enthralled and motivated. Just wanted to mention that on headspece, nchfp now has chicken and rabbit raw pack at 1 1/4 headspace. Not sure why, but it did change in last couple years. Keep on goin’ on Mama, you’re smashing this. Tfs. Xx

this is a great option for me, on days I want to can but dont have anyone here to help me carry my big all American canner. I think I will use this quite often!
Yes! More videos on this electric canner. My mother had a traditional canner explode when I was a child so I'm scared of them. I think I would be comfortable with this and would love more videos from you. You are such a delight! ❤
Was it a canner or a pressure cooker? So many safety features on canners that they are near impossible to explode now. You really have to be neglectful and not follow instructions. I know back in the day one of my best friends had a pressure cooker explode on her. Terrifying. Those cookers were not safe!
It was an old aluminum pot with wood handles and a pressure gage on top. She was canning green beans and they went everywhere! It was probably 55 years ago but it left a big impression on me so I have only water bath canned occasionally.
@@plantsbythemoon9049Fun fact: you don't actually HAVE to pressure can 😊 there are a lot of people who can teach you other ways of preserving food and don't let ANYONE tell you otherwise.

This spring and summer I plan to try my hand at canning. I used to do it as a kid to help my mother when it was canning season. The funny part is she canned so much that I do remember a lot. Once you start canning youre going to wonder why you waited so long!!! I agree with Heather- run a test with water! I guarantee you’ll love it. It is no nice to not worry about weights and timing and venting- it does it all for you!!!! Good luck!

This canner was a game changer for me. I received one for Christmas 2022. I have used it to can green beans, bone broth, pickles, salsa, etc. I've used the water bath and pressure settings and it is the easiest canning I've ever done. Being a 70+ year old senior lady, I just could not manage a large pressure canner and water anymore. Even water bathing and all the water it took was just too much for me. I was a happy canner all last summer and fall and even into winter. I still have lots of tomatoes in my freezer to make into more salsa and sauce. The only thing I have not canned is meat. I've watched a lot of videos on youtube of people using it to can meat, but I also watched Rose Red and she does not recommend canning meat in the electric canner and I trust her. I highly recommend this Presto canner. It opened up many canning possibilities that I thought I would never be able to do at my age. One last thing. The canner itself all put together is still kind of heavy for me, but I just take it apart and carry the base, pot insert and lid separately and I can manage it just fine. I have this same canner and I love it. I would recommend everyone to read the detailed instructions and information before starting. Then use the “quick Instruction guide”from then on. There is some good information on the detailed one. This makes me want to get back to canning again. I also need to can some beans and will start there. Then it’s time to get some meats out of our freezer and can and then replace that meat. Happy canning everyone.

This was the best information tutorial for me. I've been scared of the pressure canner and have very weak arms and hands. 2 surgeries, carpal tunnel and rotator cuff tear. Also, my garden is smaller. I appreciate you going over each step and reading the prompts. I couldn't on my phone. I plan to get one. I've had to get correl dishes because my other ones were too heavy and my cast iron. Thanks for sharing. I pray your body keeps healing.
I chased after that canner for over a year. In that time, I got the InstantPot Max and the Nesco/Carey. I can almost every day now having that sitting on the counter anyway. I do leftovers though I'm also mostly an ingredient canner. It's SO easy to make double or more of what you're making that day anyway and canning the extra for your shelf. I'm excited for your videos using this! I think you'll be totally pleased with it!

I bought this canner right after Thanksgiving, the only problem I had was after a few canning projects some of the lining flaked off. I contacted Presto and they replaced it right away. I know you will enjoy using it. Never, ever use the vent option on the regulator. It not necessary and can cause an error message to appear and you will have to start all over again. Ask me how I know!!!

I have had one for over a year now and love it. It take a little longer than the stove top canner to cool down but it is so easy to use.

I love my old Presto, All Americans and Ball Fresh Water canners but intrigued by the simplicity of this. Plus I am a Cannoholic! 😁 But this may be also be a gift to my daughter who wants to start pressure canning. Thanks for the video, Heather.

I have the Nesco. Less expensive, less buttons. LOVE it!! Especially as a newbie to canning. This helped me a lot! Presto is beautiful though!
I feel like I have been in a time warp.....none of this was really around before our accident! So I know nothing about other canners....but feel really blessed to have been gifted this one!

The Nesco/Carey is the only electric canner that passed all of RoseRed’s tests. That’s why I chose it. She was actually in contact with the man who invented it, and I’m so happy with the Carey/Nesco. I use it as a pressure cooker to make turkey stock, wash it out, then I’m ready to use it as a pressure canner for the stock!
I love my Presto. I have had mine over a year now and I have done beans, soups, salsas and they come out perfect every time. Enjoy your new canner. God bless❤

Oh my goodness! This couldn't have come at a better time! I got this canner a few months ago and canned chicken broth and just did beef chunks this past weekend. I was so nervous about using it because all of the bad things I've read about electric pressure canner. I feel so much better now about using it. I've watched you since Mina was just a baby and you are my favorite on youtube. I can hardly wait to see you use this more. Love your channel!

FYI, if you have to send it in for repairs, save the box. Service is really great. My was repaired and checked out with wide and regular mouth jars, wide mouth pints, re, pints, and jelly jars! Love it!

I have this canner and absolutely love it! I was a brand new canner with a glass top stove and this canner made it soooo easy! Very first thing I pressure canned was venison! I can fit 7 wide mouth pints and 5 wide mouth quarts.
I also keep the quick guide in a sheet protector along with my other canning books, owners manuals, etc., in a magazine file holder right in the kitchen!
And, of course we want to see more videos! I’m so excited to learn more!

What an awesome gift! I have that canner too. I've used it a lot and never had a problem with it. Really like that I can put it on my kitchen table to use there since it takes up a lot of my limited counter space.

Like her, I am a researcher and can attest to her research on canning! Much like the USGS, the USDA's decisions, in my opinion, are questionable. I will stick to the research instead of government rulings.
I am completely with you on that!!!! We know the government does not want us growing our own food nor preserving it and putting food by. I am so thankful and grateful for people like RoseRed who shares her life purpose to help us all!

USDA does not test any canner. I have this canner and yes Rose Red Homestead, Pam is awesome as is Jim..they both are very intelligent people;
Guidelines is different than testing…Pesto is a great product.
