Thank you SO very much for your step-by-step instructions on this. I just got mine yesterday (1/25/2024) and was completely intimated since I have only had experience with stove top canning. Now I have a glass-top stove & needed to update how I canned. Thank you for putting my mind at ease. I will always can, however the next thing I add to my food storage is a freeze dryer. But canning is the best thing I have ever learned.

This video was just what I needed. I have been canning for about a year now using the small pressure cooker with one canning setting from Costco. For some reason, this presto just felt intimidating. After a week of walking around the Prestco Canner box sitting in my living room, I watched your video and it gave the the confidence I needed. • @bowtielife

I do not know why. On mine it takes a while to get to that point, 15 to 30 minutes I think. It sputters for a while before it finally does pop up. Of course, assuming the lid is in the locked position with the tab down and the green handle turned.
Additionally, if the mechanism is not reassembled properly after cleaning it may not work, either.
If it doesn't pop up ever when pressure canning (not Boiled water canning) you may need to contact the maker.

My presto broke! The L shaped tab on the inside of the lid popped off due to the wheel in the top catching on it and popping it off. I had no idea that the presto could not can properly without that piece. I called presto and gave them my serial numbers and address and they are sending me out another lid within 5-7 days. Oh the withdrawals I am going to be having 😂😛

You are the second person in as many weeks that has commented that this tab came off!! That is weird! You definitely did the right thing contacting the manufacturer for a replacement. I’ve always heard they are real good about that. It is good to see first hand reporting that they have taken care of this. Great to hear CAGal!! Thank you!😊

They said it was a fault on their part. The wheel in the top that the rubber seal fits on the spokes are too close together so in the newer models they have removed another spoke so the bracket that popped off will have enough space if the wheel turns too close to it. Hope that makes sense. Yes I am thrilled they are sending me another top. Great customer service for sure! You definitely cannot use the canner with that bracket missing, the canner will not function properly.
