Can't believe he had to retire. One of the least likely to become something big, yet he overcame the small school situation and become a legend. I'm sure the Patriots will miss him.
The beating his body took over the years has surely taken its toll. I'd be surprised, really, if he wanted to carry on, and I suspect he really could no longer afford his kamikaze style of play. He's at the age where that's just an express lane to the IR list. (The spirit is willing, but the joints are weak.)
He was also the last option in a lot of play calls. Probability of him catching the ball was pretty high but even higher was the probability of him getting hit hard the secpnd after he caught it. I saw a lot of plays were he was basically sacrifice to move the chains but that is the name of the game or for now because it is becoming two hand touch little by little.
