My initial thought was heck no, but the more I think about it he’s literally one of the only guys I can think of who never drops the football and his contributions to those super bowl teams are priceless. I dunno man...all I know is whenever I watched the pats and they threw to Edelman it was automatic almost 100% of the time.
The hall of fame should not be just about the numbers but also about the overall impact to the game. If for an entire decade, a player has caused the league defenses to game plan (most often unsuccessfully) around this player and has pushed the league to start valuing the slot receiver position, then Edelman should get in if you add his overall impact to his post season numbers.
I Think he should eventually get into the HoF purely because of his grit and ability to do what others won’t do, and step up to any task you ask him. For him being a wr they should really consider how hard he played compared to other receivers
I now he doesn’t have that many signatures catches compared to some other players, but his longevity and willingness to do whatever necessary, if it’s blocking, playing db, throwing the ball, not many receivers would dare put their body in situations half as dangerous as Edelman

The violations have affected every team in the league and every position on the field, including players who have been named to the Pro Bowl and even long snappers, quarterbacks and at least one placekicker." If you're going to hate on someone, at least pick something a little more meaningful.
I don't understand why people treat it like an either-or though. It's not like only 1 WR from the last 20 years can make it in! Everyone says Eli Manning is a Hall of Famer bc two clutch playoff runs & then holds every other position to a different standard. If every QB we consider "great" gets in, there shouldn't be different expectations for other positions.
Eli Manning is also 8th all times in yards and a QB contributes far more to winning than a slot receiver does. So you can take clutch into account there.
Soft???.... the way these QBs are throwing.... even an average WR can get an easy 1K yard a season.... the top WR gonna start averaging 1500 a yards minimum a season
They do have plaques for individual achievements like game plans and I'd be happy to see a little audio-visual display of Julian's catch in a room with other great catches. There are plenty. Why not do it? We have the technology now to watch individual plays submitted as all time great plays. Others that come to mind (SBs): Manningham, Tyree, Kearse, Fitzgerald, Holmes, Swann
He needs to get in line to be even considered. Andre Johnson, Chad 85, Hines Ward is very under appreciated (look at his numbers and accomplishments) and Torry Holt. Also, the man on this panel's older brother.
Edelman and Amendola are the probably the most disarmingly talented receivers for their size that I have ever watched. I honestly think Julian's career would have lasted another 2-3 years had he not been tasked with punt and kickoff returns. Great player; not a Hall of Famer, in my opinion.

It's so tough because the Patriots spent 20 years creating an offense that was specifically designed to create issues for other teams to plan against. Edelman was a pro-bowl "level" talent on his team. But, aside from Brady, the Patriots had so few pro-bowlers on offense. A great player is one who plays at the absolute top when it's needed. Edelman didn't need 2,000 yards in the regular season because there were 12 different players every year catching TD passes from Brady and they would still have 13+ wins almost every season. I hate that Edelman is going to be judged against regular season production when he did everything he was asked to, and he has far greater stats and achievements than many people in the HoF. The man GOT. SH*T. DONE. And that's more than even people like Drew Brees and Peyton Manning can say when they look at the rings on their fingers.
Yes I do believe he qualifies his Super Bowl performances were legendary on a side note I believe Troy Brown should get some consideration too he was the most versatile Patriot I've ever seen he set the stage for Wes Walker and Edelman and Amendola
@@kyos8462 take away Brady? Talk about rewriting history, just take Joe away from Jerry or Troy away from Michael Irving while you're at it. Why try to destroy what makes team sports special? It's about the team effect, the being on the same page effect that makes guys reach greatness.
Troy Brown may be the most underrated player of value in NFL history. He was Mr. Everything and a very steady influence in the locker room to boot. That walk off catch against Miami, wow ...

THe man played QB , Defence , WR , Special Teams , he blocked, returned punts.. he did it all. One of my favorite players. Sadly he will never sniff the HoF
That is the problem with the H of F, they celebrate a position and forget about legendary FB players. JE is an all around amazing FB player. He dd not catch 40 yard bombs but they don't win games. The 5 to 15 yard catches do. Creates time of possession, opens up the wide receivers and the run game by making them back off line of scrimmage just a bit. He belongs in the H of Fame. Julian Edelman position" Football Player".
@@gxdzfxrst2940 That is my point. He is not considered top in league in any one thing, that is pro bowl, criteria, but he is a good runner, returner, blocker, slot receiver ( a very underrated position). And the famous play " the catch: is the most average looking 10 times every Sunday TD pass and catch you will find. It was before my time and when I saw it finally I was stunned. Ni idea why it is special in any way. " The Catch" is more like what Edelman did in Super Bowl 50, that is one for the ages. Probably the best catch I have ever seen, and by far the most clutch. Football is like anything else, some players get all the attention when they are not that good.
its crazy you're saying he needs pro bowls to get into the hall of fame..super bowl mvp sounds a lot better..championships sound a lot better..being a hard worker and a winner sounds better!!! you can have your hall of fame, i bet julian is happy with what he did!!!!
So 3x champion , super bowl MVP and all the amazing catches he had for Brady ( specially the falcon super bowl game that catch was legendary) and all catches and touchdown that he has made in the nfl and super bowl he deserve a spot in the hall of fame I’m not saying he is first ballot but he deserve to be in the hall of fame
That’s nowhere near enough lmao, executives during the Patriots era get rings too you know? Horry was a 7 time champion and hit game winners, that don’t make him a ball of famer 😂
12k all purpose yards, 43 tds. The thing is, he wasn’t ever just a wide receiver. He was also a special teams guy and he was pretty good at that too. Considering the injuries and he retired at 34 he still had a lot to offer the league, a 7th round draft pick that played qb in college. There was no other more dangerous dual threat wide receiver in the post season. I’m not saying he’s in the hall of fame, I’m saying there are strong cases to consider him.
Edelman was on a winning team that's why his numbers aren't like these other high profile receivers. Most of those guys teams don't make the playoffs, they have garbage time stats. Edelman's stats mattered at the most important moments
Edelman is a multiple time champion, made ridiculous catches - and throws - was a key target in a dynasty and a Super Bowl MVP. He absolutely should make it in. Not first ballot, but somewhere down the line, yes.
Skips credibility when it comes to HOF talk was shot when he contradicted himself by saying on one side of his mouth "If I have to think about it,you're not in" but on the other side TO didn't belong
Everyone wants every player to be in the Hall. Just when they retire it’s always “He should be in the Hall of Fame” No he does not belong in the Hall. Deion was right they letting just anyone get in.
I think he absolutely should be a hall of famer. The guy is a winner. Accumulation of stats and awards are for guys who dont win. I would take Edelman over a whole lot of "greats" currently in the hall of fame.
This is a dumb argument Julian is easily a HOF not only was a receiver he did everything, blocker, punt returner, qb, ect. And still have decent numbers especially in the postseason
Never in a day would I argue Julian is a better wideout then the modern receivers Shannon listed. HOWEVER, all of those wideouts Shannon missed don't even have one ring, Jules has 3, and was a big part in each of those wins. If you just looked at regular season stats then yes, he would never sniff the HoF, HOWEVER X2 you can't disregard him as being the best WR in the post season this era. Name a better wideout with better numbers n more rings? Idk it's a hard debate I get that but my side is (biased I will admit lol) is he deserves to be in the HoF, the only other constant receiver Brady had was Gronk (when he wasn't injured, which was a TON during the post season) so I think that goes to show something.
JE11 is MR Clutch. That stat about his 3rd down catches for 1st dowms says all. When the game is on the line, you could count on him to be big. I think he deserves to be in the Hall.
You cannot tell the story of the New England Patriots without Julian Edelman. The problem with the Hall is its pretty much a fantasy football award. Regular season statistics should not be the dominant criteria to get in. Wes Welker had a much more prolific receiving career than Edelman but in critical moments when the game is on the line Welker came up small. Edelman may not have the numbers but when it comes to critical moments 10 times out of 10 I take him over Welker any game. Edelman is one of the great clutch players that I have ever seen in the biggest games. He delivered whenever his number was called. The criteria should be opened up because the slot receiver in many ways is the 2nd most important position and few played bigger than Edelman
You can’t tell the Story of the Philadelphia Eagles without Nick Foles. You can’t tell the story of the Baltimore Ravens without Joe Flacco. Just because a player is a team legend doesn’t make them a hall of fame. And both of those players were also super bowl mvps.
@@ErikCB912 Here is the thing about Foles and Flacco. They were flash in the pan players that had individual great runs their respective Super Bowl runs but that was it for them. What I saw Edelman do to the Ravens and Legion of Boom in 2014, Falcons in 2017, Kansas City Chiefs and Rams in 2018. Especially the Rams. That was the most dominant performance any receiver ever had in any game period. That was the only game I saw a player that was truly uncoverable start to finish. Edelman had multiple runs which is why he is a multi time Champion. Its not so much just you cant tell the story of the Patriots without him. He was a major contributor to that culture that allowed them to have so many chances to win the Super Bowl. The 3 they won they absolutely do not win without him.
@@bryanmahoney3434 To be honest I see your point but one of the players from the defense should have won MVP they held that team to 3 points but if Edelman gets in solely off of playoffs then Moss and Megatron should not be in at all. @@bryanmahoney3434 and actually Flacco had other good playoff performances but he didn't win and winning is a team accomplishment so that's why we shouldn't just give it to Edelman
and edelman did other things that don't show up on stats for his position. Like blocking and throwing passes and 1td, kick and punt returns, and playing defense things that some of the other receivers ahead of him didn't do.
He definitely deserves to be in the Hall of fame discussion at the least he didn't even play his 1st 4 seasons so you have to start countin after that and then compare that to someone else's 1st 6 seasons or something like that otherwise it's not fair
If he didn't play it was because he wasn't good enough. The pats have always had average WRs (except Moss) and did well with what they had and Julian is no exception. They can have the discussion but he will never be a finalist.
It’s so tough. In the playoffs he’s hall of fame and arguably that matters more than regular season but at the same time it does matter that he was not great in the regular season

Wes Welker did that before Edelman
I Think he should eventually get into the HoF purely because of his grit and ability to do what others won’t do, and step up to any task you ask him. For him being a wr they should really consider how hard he played compared to other receivers
I now he doesn’t have that many signatures catches compared to some other players, but his longevity and willingness to do whatever necessary, if it’s blocking, playing db, throwing the ball, not many receivers would dare put their body in situations half as dangerous as Edelman
