  • 4am Seoul Diaries - Ep. 4
small fragments of mundane life, the joy within them, and how they have helped me appreciate early winter mornings.
it's much harder to stick to a morning routine during the winter, and despite setting new years' resolutions and goals only a few weeks ago, we can often lose sight of them. I wanted to share some small changes I have made to or small joys I have found in the early mornings here in Seoul, including using a sleep tracker app, a hot pot of tea, yoga, booking a Korean class and reading.
we shouldn't compare our rates of growth and progress with other times of the year, for this is a time to live a little slower and mindfully.
wishing you peaceful mornings and happiness in new habits,
    D

Hello, namaste from India 🇮🇳. Again a calm video . Thank you so much for sharing. Yes i do wake up at 3 am and do yoga the very first thing. Being a yoga instructor, i find serenity in doing it so early when the world is still sleeping. Loads of love and light.

Namaste friend! Thank you so much for watching.
I'm so inspired by your commitment to your practice. There's nothing more healing or inspiring than a yoga practice before sunrise, within the temporary silence of the world. It's amazing to know there are so many others out there who share such a similar routine. Love and light to you.

This is cozy and I can relate to enjoying a lot of early morning things. I usually don't get up much earlier than 4:30 AM in winter, but sometimes I do (generally summer is when I wake up for the day at 3:30 AM). A few days ago I made myself a big dinner and got so tired that I went to bed early, ended up waking up for the day at 2:40 AM, which is absurdly early even for me. I'm glad you've learned to love winter. I enjoy winter a lot, but I love having four seasons, as every season has its beauty. I live in northern New Hampshire near Canada in an old drafty house so it can get quite cold, my attic on many winter days is about 2 degrees Celsius and the hallway and bathroom can be around 10 degrees Celsius. Outside it can be below negative-30 Celsius some mornings. I love the cozy morning time to just enjoy things and sometimes work on my art. It's also fun to just go outside and walk around in the snow, enjoying the pre-morning night sky. I also love watching the sun rise. I usually get to bed around 10 PM and asleep by 10:30 PM, on New Year's Eve, though, I let myself stay up late (and sleep in until 6 AM on New Year's Day).

Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your experience. Like you, I usually get up earlier in the summer than I do the winter, but this year I'm trying to maintain the around 4am habit as part of overcoming some sort of mental barrier to winter. It's been working well:) I've been reading a lot of books recently that have been set in and around New Hampshire, and I've developed quite a fascination with the area. It sounds so beautiful with the four seasons, although the winters sound very harsh, so it must be hard living in an old house! We get four distinct seasons here in Korea too, and it's something I love about living here. At home in the UK, the year seems to carry a distinct sense of cloudy, rainy and grey with subtle fluctuations in temperatures. I can't say I miss it haha. I'm happy to meet another person who loves the early mornings, thank you for sharing your story with me. Wishing you a peaceful week🤍

@@dalsol달설 Winters here can be harsh and cold, especially here in northern New Hampshire, our weather is influenced a lot by Hudson Bay up in Canada. It keeps temperatures down in summer and in also in spring and winter. Winter can arrive kind of suddenly. I've seen it in October where it's 25 degrees Celsius one day then snowing two days later. Same with in May. I usually just go with my natural wake up time since I wake up feeling refreshed and I know I can trust myself to get up at a time I like to get up. I set the alarm for 6 AM just in case my body isn't agreeing much with me (one time I slept in late until about 6:30 AM was last month when I had the flu). My house is definitely cold and drafty, especially the attic. But there is one good side to it. In summer, other women struggle with air conditioning but I'm just fine (they heavily air condition buildings in summer in the US, not so much where I live but places I've visited).
Thank you, I hope you have a great week as well. Here's a fun fact about the part of New Hampshire I live in, we used to be our own country, we were claimed by both Canada and the US and taxed by both, and we became our own country to settle matters. The US annexed us eventually but we ultimately got what we originally wanted, a resolution to the border dispute and fair taxation.

Thank you for sharing another relaxing video, I like mostly strong flows hatha, vinyasa but still mindful, I do twice morning Yoga and Yin yoga towards evening. I agree that people like to see when you do yoga, but find less motivated to do themselves, something that I see nowadays when I teach yoga. Thank you))

Thank you always for watching:) your yoga practice sounds wonderful. I also love yin towards the evening to help me unwind before sleep. A lot of my friends have said they would like to try yoga, but they don't have the motivation to practise at home and they're nervous to join a studio. One of my hopes through my videos is that I can share the many benefits of yoga and inspire even just one person to give it a try if they're curious. My friend came with me to my studio for the first time this weekend and said she loved it - I was so happy! Wishing you a peaceful week🤍

@@dalsol달설 You are welcome)), yes, I hope so too, I'm happy she joined with you💗🙏 It's a struggle for a lot of people as you have to make yourself go for a class and they have to do something in the class which they find uneasy...

'Be gentle with yourself '- that's such a beautiful message you conveyed.
Please make videos more often 😅 it's a request I am making for the first time to a RUclipsr. Thanks for being.
Additionally, let me know the time you go to sleep and wake up. It's a little unclear.

I’m so happy you like my videos 🤍 it means so much. I’ll do my best 🙏🏻
I usually sleep around 9:30-10, 10:30 if it’s late. Then I wake up around 4-4:30. If I get home late then I’ll readjust my routine to around 5 if I’m really tired ☺️ thank you again for the support.

Lovely analogy. I felt too that the Winter in my life held me back from making new progress, but just like your plants, I have continued to keep making progress, sometimes there is tangible evidence of that progress but other times, its just the calm assurance that I am growing even though there is no outward evidence and validation. Very deep. Thank you, for making such beautiful, peaceful and acutely inspiring videos. Could you let me know please, what is the background music at 13:03..

I think when we're shrouded in the cold and darkness we can easily lose sight of ourselves and not notice the progress and growth that's happening within us. For many years I've used winter as an excuse to hibernate and blame it for my lack of progress, without taking the time to adapt my perspective and goals according to the season. This winter has been much brighter for me, and I wish the same for you, my friend.
The final song in this video is Minning by Osker Wyld. One of my favourites🤍
