  • How To Prevent Roots in Underground Buried Downspout Drains
    The roots were terrible when we were putting in this underground buried downspout, thanks to a silver maple growing right in the middle of this yard. They're aggressive trees and crush pipes of any kind. Our number one goal is to build our customers an underground buried downspout system, French drain, yard drain - you name it - we want it to last them a lifetime. We spare no expense. When you want it done right the first time give French Drain Man a call at 248-505-3065.

    Do you ever use dual wall corrugated pipe? People in CA freak out when you pour this through the pipe!

    The best thing they can do is pull out that silver maple. I have two in the front yards. Between dropped branches and roots in the sewer, they've cost me a thousand bucks. If I hired out the sewer snaking, it would have been thousands.

    Root barrier plates ever work?

    Looks good, I just don't know how long that copper sulfate will last before it dissolves? I try to put some in my septic main line to sit overnight 1x or 2x per year so tree roots don't clog up the mainline.

      If you're gonna put it in liquid that flows to a system, you should do it a couple of times a year.

    Does this underground drain work in climates where the grounds freezes for a couple
    Of months each year?

      It works as well as the downspout itself. And yes, in the North downspouts experience, freeze up

    How can roots be cleared out of underground buried downspouts once they’ve grown in?

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  2 месяца назад +2

      Doesn't sound like they used the plumbing tile tape on it. It's the only way they can get in. We don't have that problem with our system.

      Not a big deal, run a camera up the line find the root intrusion, excavate the area, generally these pipes are shallow, repair the area where roots have entered.

    Copper sulfate in the soil won't hang around long enough to prevent future root growth, and will most likely damage the roots of turf and other plants in the area in the short term

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  2 месяца назад +4

      Our blue grass in the North is a shallow root turf. No worries.
      When copper sulfate is put down in high concentration like we did here, it's in the soil for many years.

      @@FRENCHDRAINMAN You are correct, copper sulfate does not biodegrade and has an indefinite shelf life, that's a great solution for roots.

    • @bbasham141
      @bbasham141 2 месяца назад

      Sorry to burst your bubble, but copper sulfate is highly water soluble, and whatever doesn't bind to surrounding soils will be washed away through the drainage tiles. It's been found to be highly toxic to aquatic organisms. I wouldn't recommend for sustainable operations.

      What if you took a torch w a wand and burned all the root ends ? Almost like you would cauterize an open wound or artery. Would that help to prevent roots coming back? I have the same problem w huge and small roots and I am thinking in every way to prevent their "comin back".

      I think I would shovel a narrow trench and do this instead. The packaging recommends doing this for roots. Your idea sounds like something that might be able to work though.
