    Hi, I just bought this skimmer and I came down in the morning and the pipe that sucks in air was in the water as it fell in and since that it doesn’t seem to be sucking anything in now

    • @slinkyscapes8530
      @slinkyscapes8530  20 дней назад

      @@ChantellePyne the adjustable air admittance valve that slips in the top of the air tube has a tiny sponge inside, that will be holding water, take it away and either twist it apart to reveal the sponge or place the valve in the sun and allow it to dry out naturally 👍🏻
      If you remove the valve from the clear air pipe does the pipe pull in air when the pump is running ?

    Is this a modified version of the Skim 2 or is it the other way round? I ask because I noticed that the Skim 2 doesn't have a guard.

    • @slinkyscapes8530

      No idea tbh, I stumbled across it online and gave it a whirl, that guard is a game changer though.

      @@slinkyscapes8530 Yeah, totally. Not enough attention is given to skimmer guards. I think we'll see more of that once companies get onto the idea that many of us like to keep dwarf shrimp. Especially in nano tanks

      This little skimmer is great at what it’s supposed to do,not a main filter by any means but great as an addition to keep the film clear.

    Hi Great vlog. Is there a reason that you don't use the lily pipes with the built in skimmer?

    • @slinkyscapes8530

      Some of them are a bugger to get balancing right and the stronger the pump it pulls the skimmer part under the water and it starts bobbing up and down meaning air gets sucked into the canister.
      I did have a good one from Aquarium Gardens and it worked really well.
      I also use a separate skimmer as the glass skimmer is pulling from two places which half’s the suction down below so using a standard inflow I get maximum suction down near the substrate which helps clear dead plants and fish poo.
      I also don’t have my separate skimmer on all the time,I have it on a timer and run it for two hours each night just to clear any surface scum and leaves 🍃

    Do you think for a freshwater tank with fish in it. Smallest being 1-2 inches, will they get sucked into skimmer?

    • @slinkyscapes8530
      @slinkyscapes8530  3 года назад +1

      Not in this model with the slotted skimmer protector.
      The only thing that could be sucked in would be fry or shrimplets

    At lowest flow, will it be okay for an 150l/p tank?

    • @slinkyscapes8530
      @slinkyscapes8530  3 года назад +1

      I couldn’t give you the factual flow rate as all pond didn’t release figures but I’d say no, the pump pushes 300lph with no foam in its suction path. Add restriction and you can take away 1/3 to 1/2 of the flow rate so max power I’d say 150lph, Lowest flow rate I’d say 75-100lph of consistent flow (through the sponge that’s collecting oils and dust from the surface).
