I'm born 1996 and I come from small country in Europe.I must admit that till age of 14 i listened all those crap that now get 100 milion views in minute. One day I clicked on J.Cash song by accident.Till then i listen to him and many wonderful singer that died before i was even born. But im sad that most friends of mine don't like Johnny, they say that rhythm is all that matter to them.I don't know why im writing this maybe because im so happy that you'r comment is about young people.
So close to being a ghost himself, his trembling voice speaks the sorrow of losing his soul, June. There will never be another to equal him. Those whose life is music, feel this loss deeply. An emptiness left by one of God's unique and great gifts He gave to us.
I've spent a while listening to a lot of songs he sang. So impressive. I never knew he had so many, and so varied in sound, songs. He really was talented. We should be thankful for Johnny Cash.
He has such a soulful voice at this age,he's singing from his heart. he's done his dirt like we all have, the sentiments are so much different in these covers. Johnny Cash is Epic and transcends many generations. Love it. its beautiful.....
You said it. It is the voice of a life Lived. And Johnny knew what he screwed up and tried to make amends. No one should apologise for being a human being.
Johnny Cash..... he used to be just another singer for me. Until I listened to the American Recordings. All I can say now is: Thank you Mr.Cash *bows* I am really grateful he recorded all of those songs. He touched my heart.
I am CRYING!!!!!......love Johnny Cash!!!!....he has re-inspired me to learn the guitar and the harmonica.....and I am a 40 year old woman....learned a whole lot in my lifetime......and hopefully I can learn the guitar...and no, not to be famous ... but to just entertain myself.....my mother brought me up on country music, but not CASH....but she was a depressed woman...I forgave her for ALL the depression she inflicted on me....and now ...years after her passing...I re-discovered country...CASH
Anyone who dislikes Johnny Cash has no soul. His voice is so deep and raw, untouched by things like the artist we have today, and his songs are about important things, not just money, sex, and success. They told the troubles and joys of life, and he signified with all the broken and down trod people. What i wouldn't give to have an artist as real as Johnny was..
This is so raw, so powerful, so painful ... Devastating. I can't make it through one verse without choking up. A brilliant song done straight from the heart of a legend. Thank you Mr. Cash, I pray that you are at peace.
I'm 17 aswell my friend. Don't mind Travisbickle. He doesn't understart that Johnny his music isn't bounded to certain ages. it speaks to us all, and that is what makes it what it is. Beautiful.
I'm in my early 20's and have started listening to Mr. Cash on a regular basis, straying from my usual genre of metal and the quality of the music is amazing, you don't get this from today's crap that is called "music". I wish more songs would come out with this level of talent and meaning.
You here about celebrities and musicians referred to as gods of their genre. Yet here is a man who would have strongly rejected such a tittle yet had the ability to surface and express the utter most deepest part of the soul in an unmistakable way as to stir both passion and despair and keep us coming back for more. for me he was/is an excellent example of deity manifested.
Every time I listen to this song, I cry. I cry because this man makes such beautiful music. I cry because it reminds me of my sister who I don't see much of. I cry because it makes me think of all the good times i have had with my friends and family. Johnny you may be dead but your music lives on.
been a big time Cash fan... a Heavy metal guy like me who just loves Cash.. this song makes me tear up every time.. and yes a REAL man can say he's teared up in life
Johnny sang with so much emotion... You can hear in this song, hurt, and so many others that his life had joy and sorrow, happiness and heartbreak, but at the end of it all he really LIVED it. Johnny... you are missed.
I've always loved this Gordon Lilghtfoot song, and until now would never have thought anyone could do it as well. This version is amazing....Cash sounds so old and lonely and frail, but perfect for this song. RIP JC
I wanted this song to be played at my funeral...Thank god i bought more Johnny Cash albums and became a massive fan and found life to be easier,, Im still here because of this great man..Now this song makes me smile not cry..R.I.P Johnny Cash..
Thank God that we have youtube. I have a 1 yr old daughter and she Loves johnny cash, some elvis and a youngster named John Fullbright. makes life easier knowing she doesnt have to hear some of the music out there today.
I can never get through listening to this song without shedding a tear or two. Cash really brought the emotion out in this song. Especially when he gets to the part where he sings "I never thought I would feel this way, and I've got to say that I just don't get it" and his voice breaks right there, and you can feel the pain he is feeling while singing this song. That's probably why I don't listen to this song all that often. That said, Cash did a great cover of it.
don't worry, some of us young people understand too. i'm 18 and have adored and been inspired by him for a couple years now. there are no words to describe his brilliance.
Wow! You can hear the sadness and weakness in his voice from his sickness and his loss. It makes me want to cry. R.I.P Johnny Cash. Your in a better place now.
I haven't heard this version since it has on CBC radio several years ago. Johnny Cash does an incredible job performing it. Johnny Cash recorded it only a few months before he past away. Thanks for the post. I love it!
This is the most beautiful rendition and video of this song I have ever seen or heard. It has special significance for me as my fiance, John Barnwell, was shot six times, but died slowly from the bullet that entered his ankle (chains on his feet). Achilles! He did not succumb to the wounds in his head or stomach. He is my tragic hero. Queen Elizabeth I kept a Mr. Barnwell in chains in her castle before she executed him. Mr. Gimle has eerily and beautifully captured our terribly sad but true story in this masterful artwork.
These lyrics may not have been written by John Cash, but this man's voice is wrought with the sort of apprehensiveness and pain that comes along when you are forced to come to terms with the things you have done and did not do. Doing this while watching death prepare to steal you, knowing there is no one or nothing that is or would, even if they could, provide salvation from this reality. I recognize the authenticity of this in that voice, I wish that I did not know this.
This is a great cover of Gordon Lightfoot. The best part is you know Johnny Cash only did covers of songs he liked. And how could you not love this song?
As a Lightfoot fan, and a Cash fan, I'm glad I don't have to choose which is better. RARELY does an artist cover a song as good as the writer, but Johnny Cash comes pretty dang close! I love both versions! Thanks to both of these great singers AND to daniel88yeye, GREAT VIDEO sir, I stand in awe!
its an honor to have johnny cover a song u make bands wanted him to cover their song and each version is good but sometimes johnny does do a better job
this is incredible. are people out there so closed to interpretation as to think this is anything but a man baring his pain and his melancholy? a stunning cover from a genius, who knew he was on the way out. who cares which version is / was better. theyre both great. its a fantastic song. get over it.
If you could read my mind, love, What a tale my thoughts could tell. Just like an old time movie, 'Bout a ghost from a wishing well. In a castle dark or a fortress strong, With chains upon my feet. You know that ghost is me. And I will never be set free As long as I'm a ghost that you can't see. If I could read your mind, love, What a tale your thoughts could tell. Just like a paperback novel, The kind the drugstores sell. When you reached the part where the heartaches come, The hero would be me. But stories always end, And if you read between the lines, You'll know that I'm just tryin' to understand The feelin's that you lack. I never thought I could feel this way And I've got to say that I just don't get it. I don't know where we went wrong, But the feelin's gone And I just can't get it back!
how all musicians should be, fame isn't important, money is important, items and possessions not vital.... but music is the single most important thing and they do it for one reason only, they love to do it.
I love me some johnny,he may not have made the best choices in his life but dammit,he did it his way,and he was always a man about it! RIP Johnny, you are missed.
Well now Mr. Johnny Cash...look what you've done. You've taken this incredible song and......given it the Cash treatment, which, of course, means you've wrung even MORE emotion from it than should be possible. Well done...but then that's always been your M.O.
never matters who writes a song but the way its performed and jc done a brilliant job on this heart wrenching knowing wat must be hurting inside great video danny lad
Beautiful work, Brother a fitting tribute to the heartfelt voice of the singer and the moving words of the songwriter Thank you for sharing. Blessed be... *♡*
in fact i love his broken voice, feel like he lived a thousand lifes...
The old, tired, weary, sickly-sounding voice he had at this point in his life is actually an asset for this song, in my opinion.
The maker of this video should be awarded for his creativity... Beautiful!
This song, driving though the night, down a country road, is perfection at its best.
Woooooowww, yeah, thats a truly good one..! Scenery, athmosphere, drove like that so many many miles...solitude, lonelyness
So close to being a ghost himself, his trembling voice speaks the sorrow of losing his soul, June. There will never be another to equal him. Those whose life is music, feel this loss deeply. An emptiness left by one of God's unique and great gifts He gave to us.

I always loved the voice of old country singers, it's unpure but it adds something way better, i don't know what exactly it is, emotion i gues.
You said it.
It is the voice of a life Lived. And Johnny knew what he screwed up and tried to make amends. No one should apologise for being a human being.
His voice makes this song so much sadder than it should be. I love this.
Johnny Cash..... he used to be just another singer for me.
Until I listened to the American Recordings.
All I can say now is: Thank you Mr.Cash
*bows*
I am really grateful he recorded all of those songs.

man, there's a life well lived in that voice. your the man , mr Cash. R.I.P
Nothing can describe his greatness. How we love him, how we miss him...
I'd never heard this version until now. His delivery is so personal. It has that sound of pines, a lake, and memories that lay scattered. Incredible.
Man, this song is deep! All the same, I really dig this.
There's something very special about the way these vocals are presented; Unprocessed very personable.
Every time I listen to this song, I cry. I cry because this man makes such beautiful music. I cry because it reminds me of my sister who I don't see much of. I cry because it makes me think of all the good times i have had with my friends and family. Johnny you may be dead but your music lives on.
This song breaks my heart.
thank you god for giving me the opportunity to listen to such wonderful music. thank you johnny for making it. my life is richer for it.
Mr. Cash can do no wrong. Everything he touches (or sings) is golden. Gordon Lightfoot wishes he could do this.
been a big time Cash fan... a Heavy metal guy like me who just loves Cash.. this song makes me tear up every time.. and yes a REAL man can say he's teared up in life
I am blown away, listen to the passion, the story .... I have lived because I heard this in my life.
There's just so much heartbreak and tenderness in his version of this; if there's such a thing as a sad miracle, this is it.
I'm only 23 and I've loved Johnny Cash since I was 16! :) I appreciate REAL music!
Oh my goodness, as if this song didn't have me crying already--you just choked me up.
Johnny sang with so much emotion... You can hear in this song, hurt, and so many others that his life had joy and sorrow, happiness and heartbreak, but at the end of it all he really LIVED it.
Johnny... you are missed.
Its so refreshing to see young people listening to what I call real music !!!!
What a great rendition of a fantastic song . But the J Cash could sing the phonebook and I would applaud.
I've always loved this Gordon Lilghtfoot song, and until now would never have thought anyone could do it as well. This version is amazing....Cash sounds so old and lonely and frail, but perfect for this song.
RIP JC
Such a beautiful version, johnny covers any song and gives it a special meaning like this one, it's just perfect.
I wanted this song to be played at my funeral...Thank god i bought more Johnny Cash albums and became a massive fan and found life to be easier,, Im still here because of this great man..Now this song makes me smile not cry..R.I.P Johnny Cash..

thanks for the video!

This has to be one of Cash's bests. Very soulful
don't worry, some of us young people understand too. i'm 18 and have adored and been inspired by him for a couple years now. there are no words to describe his brilliance.
Direct powerful song like a bullet to my heart
Pure emotions. Johnny comes across with absolute authenticity. Love it
Wow! You can hear the sadness and weakness in his voice from his sickness and his loss. It makes me want to cry. R.I.P Johnny Cash. Your in a better place now.

Oh my!!!! This song is full of feeling in the marv voice of Mr Cash!! LOVE IT!!
J C WAS ONE OF THE GREAT ONES , HE MAY BE GONE BUT HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. NO ONE WILL EVER BEAT THE MAN IN BLACK. RIP BROTHER.
Johnny's voice always moves me to tears. he has the most poignant, touching, heartfelt voice x

i've been listening to this roughly a year and a half, and im 15. this music makes more sense then any other out there
No need to comment the the song it speaks for itself. Johnny did it with his soul. The video is great.
this is awesome.fragile in voice, but just mind blowing.a desert island disc choice.rip june and johny

Very...nice and true. Happens to a lot of us. I will miss Johnny Cash for as long as my mind stays sane. Much lovex3
this is incredible. are people out there so closed to interpretation as to think this is anything but a man baring his pain and his melancholy? a stunning cover from a genius, who knew he was on the way out. who cares which version is / was better. theyre both great. its a fantastic song. get over it.
what a voice, a little trimmer, so deep. RIP
Great Song, and Video. Cash's Soul will live forever. Thanks for the post
Johnny Cash. thank you for recording this. I hope you and June are Happy with the Lord now. you have a nice day. Curt.
Jimminy cricket, this is one of the most freakishly amazing covers I've ever heard.
If you could read my mind, love,
What a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie,
'Bout a ghost from a wishing well.
In a castle dark or a fortress strong,
With chains upon my feet.
You know that ghost is me.
And I will never be set free
As long as I'm a ghost that you can't see.

Just like a paperback novel,
The kind the drugstores sell.
When you reached the part where the heartaches come,
The hero would be me.
But heroes often fail,
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just too hard to take!
I'd walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script.
Enter number two:
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me.
But for now, love, let's be real;
I never thought I could act this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it.
I don't know where we went wrong,
But the feeling's gone
And I just can't get it back.
If you could read my mind, love,
What a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie,
'Bout a ghost from a wishing well.
In a castle dark or a fortress strong.
With chains upon my feet.
But stories always end,
And if you read between the lines,
You'll know that I'm just tryin' to understand
The feelin's that you lack.
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it.
I don't know where we went wrong,
But the feelin's gone
And I just can't get it back!
Gordon was and is one of the best song writers to ever be.
Thank you so much for the lyrics 😢😢
Johnny cash dans ce genre est inimitable. Repose en paix l,ami pour l,eternite.
johnny cash is the best i grew up on johnny cash i am 30 years old ive got all his cds and dvds and all his pictures
I love this, you have truly caught the essence of this song and the loneliness that Gordon Lightfoot felt while writing this
Me emociono muchísimo al oírlo, adoro y quiero a Johnny Cash mi ídolo absoluto ❤❤
Incredible, I'm sorry he had to feel like this in his last years without June.
Cash is great, Lightfoot is great... it is just nice to see Cash give his respects to another legend.
this guy was bloody great. thanx for the songs.
how all musicians should be, fame isn't important, money is important, items and possessions not vital.... but music is the single most important thing and they do it for one reason only, they love to do it.

...eine der besten Version von diesem Song wie ich finde, aber das aller Beste ist die Person die mich darauf gebracht hat. Thanks Franzi!!!
Going through some Gorden Lightfoot songs when I fell on this Johnny Cash version. What a find! I just love it...
Well now Mr. Johnny Cash...look what you've done. You've taken this incredible song and......given it the Cash treatment, which, of course, means you've wrung even MORE emotion from it than should be possible. Well done...but then that's always been your M.O.
