Without Rick Rubin these songs would not be joy to our ears. Rick resurrected Johnny's career in his last days. Legendary music, Legendary singer Legendary man.
One day, maybe, my future grandchildren will hear this, and they'll say: "Now I know why grandpa used to love this!". May I won't be in this world anymore, but I hope they watch it, and share it with their friends. To relax, and think on good times, everyone together. (wow, I got inspired in this text... this song makes we think, don't you think? :))
I am 65 years of age now. When I was a barefoot kid, I lived in southwest Louisiana. My brothers and I, would spend many hours hanging out at the old Kansas City Southern depot. I remember one cold winter day , the passenger pulled in late evening. The baggage coach door slid open. There stood three of the biggest US soldiers I had ever seen, as if standing guard, by a flag draped coffin. Minutes later the door closed, train pulled out. To this day I still wonder who and how the man died.
It's such an intense song... the chords make it more intense... "They're carrying her home, on the evenin train..." - simple enough to bring back tears in our eyes... It just reminds me, we all will be going back home, but dunno when... so, love and live... - VK
johnny cash is amazing his life story is just soo sad but still amazing to read about, there is a vid of him on youtube of his last performance and he is just broken of the dead of his wife it has totally weakend him. johnny was one of very few artists who really put a lot of emotion in his music and that makes johnny great! Rest in Peace; man in black!
Didn't realize Hank Williams never recorded this great, sad song. This is another favorite Johnny Cash cover of mine that I do enjoy playing out at gigs, shows and performances of my own. Such a wonderful, old tune. Thank you so much for posting this!
Read it again he never cared worth a damn about Johnny. And he blamed John directly for the death of Jack cash. He told John ( jr) that he should've tried harder to get Jack to go fishing with him then said to the young johnny that God took the wrong son, that it should have been John that died instead of Jack. Said it to him almost daily. Get hold of a book called Johnny Cash The Life by Robert Hilburn
"they're taking Mama away from us" "I'm going home on the evening train" "It's hard to know she's gone forever They're carrying her home on the evening train" God! I can't listen it before the people. Can't help it, I'm cryed out
@hankedful , yes, it's a shame, but who knows what will be uncovered in the future, I don't want to hear every song ever recorded by Hank, I hope when my time comes, I'll leave earth still wanting to hear the only song by Hank that is still new to me.
He was kinda hard on Johnny at times, didn't approve of his interest in music and directly or indirectly blamed him for the death of Jack, Johnny's older brother.

its not cool to cry at work....
I read Johnny's autobiography and from what I gather, his dad wasn't a bad person. Very hardworking and strict but cared deeply for his children.
