Man this song has totally hooked me. Fantastic. And Mr. Cash is an all time giant. The album this appeared on topped Billboard's charts - 3 years after Johnny passed away.
There's a pervasive and strong element of disrespect with the guy's shit kicking walk through the cemetery, doing the tightrope walk on the track, sexually straddling his legs on the rails etc. Cash is at the end of his life and trying to talk soberly(through Springsteen) about his final destination, heaven, to meet loved ones, which has nothing to do with some dude wise-guy-walking further on up that road. Get some maturity and think about it.
This is not a charitable comment. "sexually straddling his legs on the rails"... that shot is a direct reference to a photo of Johnny Cash doing the exact same thing here fineartamerica.com/featured/1-johnny-cash-michael-rougier.html The video is about mortality, how death comes for us all, but in Christ there is hope that we will meet "further on up the road" in heaven. Something that Johnny Cash believed in himself. "Get some maturity and think about it."
😊Wonderful....oh My God.....Pretty Song from U.S.A. Country
"If there's a light up ahead, well brother I don't know, but I'll meet you further on up the road."
Hope so, Johnny. Hope so.
"Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path."
Psalm 119: 105
Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary have mercy on us.
Makes me cry. so emotional. I was a fan from the beginning to the end.

One of my all-time favorite Bruce Springsteen songs.
Well, Springsteen wrote the song.
Eric Clapton
No he diddnt. "Farther Up the Road" or "Further On up the Road" is a blues song first recorded in 1957 by Bobby "Blue" Bland
@@forsis80This was written by Springsteen. There’s a different song called “Further On Up the Road” which is an old blues standard.
Its good. It reminds me of an official music video that I've seen in the past from Johnny Cash. (except the super tight pants :)
