    Hey Alissa. I wouldn't recommend tape as a flow reducer, as it can contain chemicals you do not want in the water. I suggest you cut a plastic water bottle in half (without the label/glue) to size of the filter. You can do a RUclips search on how to make one- I believe searching "DIY betta filter flow reducer" should recommend great videos. This method is much better, cheap, and lasts long! Where as tape will eventually lose its stick/grip, will not last as long, and contains chemicals.

      Janaya Huffman You have yo assemble the tank yourselves (as most tanks do). It comes in parts, but to “secure” it a bit more, they glued the parts to the tank. I was a bit annoyed but eventually peeled the glue off. I’m not sure if other tanks do this, but this one does. I bought the 5 gallon tank.

    No hate but to anyone who is wanting a betta its best to fully cycle the tank before getting the fish. This can take from 4 weeks or longer and gives good bacteria time to grow in the filter/gravel etc which will create a much healthier environment for your fish.
    There is not much good bacteria in water from an established tank but as you already bought the fish its better than nothing! I would have suggested to get some bio balls or some kind of media and put it in Klauss tank for a month or so and then put it into the new tank as that would mean that the new tank is already cycled and ready to go as the bacteria is in the filter ☺️ gorgeous fish though!

    • @katfishd7043
      @katfishd7043 6 лет назад +5

      Danielle Delaney there’s absolutely no need for bashing ☺️ I just added that in case any new fish owners weren’t aware of the whole cycling process (I know I wasn’t when I first thought about getting my Kylo) it can be quite the information overload when first starting out 😂 but im so glad you clarified you added cycled media to the new tank Alyssa!

    • @silverfoxx6472
      @silverfoxx6472 6 лет назад

      katfishd I only cycled my tanks for 1 week :o I'm glad my fish are okay!. I used my old filter cartridge and used gravel though, that probably played a part in my luck.

    • @katfishd7043
      @katfishd7043 6 лет назад +2

      Callie Desbiens old filter as in it was in another tank with water still or it was dried? If dried the bacteria would have died off cause it would have had no food source from the waste (which is what good bacteria feed on)

    • @silverfoxx6472
      @silverfoxx6472 6 лет назад +2

      katfishd it was from a filled, previously cycled, healthy aquarium lol. If I let them dry up, or when they get really gross I just go buy new ones cause they're so cheap.

    • @abigailf8026
      @abigailf8026 6 лет назад +2

      If you have an established aquarium, you can have a cycled tank within a day. I setup a 5 gallon for my betta and put her in the next day because I got a handful of filter floss media that hadn't been cleaned in about 2 months. I tested the water the next day and the parameters were on point- and have been to this day. It really all depends on how much media you can provide for the size tank to speed up the process, and how many fish you are adding to the aquarium. Too many fish (even with cycled media) and not enough cycled media for the amount of fish, can result in death of the fish, etc. as the bacteria are having difficulty removing the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrite in a sufficient matter of time.

    "'owners' not experienced owners but..." OK what's wrong with a top fin tank that magically makes you not a good fish owner exactly? Just because it's not as insanely expensive as a Fluval doesn't mean it's a bad tank

    • @19seventy97
      @19seventy97 5 лет назад +33

      Either way, they’re all just panes of glass designed to hold water and fish. A $50 and a $150 tank use the same materials or very similar. Its the tech thats used which can bump the price up. Anyway, most of the time you are paying for the name.

    Hi, Nerite snail eggs will not hatch in freshwater, it has to be brackish water. So in theory, you could have many snails in one freshwater tank and they will not multiply. However it's a great "excuse" to buy another tank and fish so I can't argue with that, lol.

    • @GiraffeCoco
      @GiraffeCoco 6 лет назад +16

      when you replace the cartridge you get rid of the bacteria and will have to restart the cycling process. You clean it in aquarium water from the water change every week and only replace it when it is breaking.

    • @abbisnews1
      @abbisnews1 6 лет назад +2

My experience with their heaters however has not been good. I bought their smallest one made for tanks under 3 gallons & it heats the tank up to 90+ degrees even in a 5 gallon bucket test. I use it in the coldest part of winter to keep my daughter's 10 gallon tank warm (75-78) when the room temp is around 65.

    the beneficial bacteria lives on the gravel, filter, and surfaces of the tank, not the water itself. but there is an api product that cycles the tank within days and helps your fish as your tank cycles, api quick start. its better than doing a 4 week long natural tank cycling. test your tank with that api kit you have every day if ur going to have a fish in there, he may suffer with the ammonia and nitrite spikes

    • @YoungSinatra25
      @YoungSinatra25 6 лет назад +2

      It helps with the cycle, not instant cycle. I know this for a fact after setting up multiple aquariums. 4 this year alone.
      There are methods for an instant cycle, but you need a well established aquarium to pull media from.

      Alyssa Nicole I’ve had a snail that caught onto a plant I bought reproduced but we just enjoyed watching them grow. However, some of the bottom feeders found them and thought they would make a good snack. So the original snail had grown very quickly and wasn’t bothered by the pakistani loaches at all. In the end the snail died naturally. Btw, I have a tropical tank.

      Doggoroo yes I do but on the lowest it's a little strong for the betta there is 2 things you can do 1 do the water bottle thing or 2 just fill it up a little more until your satisfied with the flow. There is a spot for a heater too as you probably saw in the video, it's really good tank you should get it. One last thing is on the top of the filter there is this switch thing that when it to read it means that you have to change the cartridge

    Actually you’re completely wrong. The good bacteria does not live in the water, it lives in the filter and on hard hard services not in the actual water so putting old tank water in a new tank does absolutely nothing, you’re putting a fish in an uncycled tank. You should have just taken some filter media from the old tank to the new. Do some better research.

    • @Iamaguienapig
      @Iamaguienapig 6 лет назад +6

      Alyssa Nicole I very much doubt you did that until I said it. What reason could you have to not show it in the video or at least say it so your followers don’t make the same rookie mistake and think the good bacteria lives in the water body? Yeah.. makes no sense.
      Look I’m not hating on you, you seem pretty nice but my concern when I see people making the common mistake you made is for the fish.
      Adding tank water does nothing. So you saying “leave it an hour to cycle with this old tank water” is utter rubbish. 🤷🏻‍♀️

      Little red you're wrong. I don't know what science class you took but beneficial bacteria actually is in the water. It floats around in the water till it finds a surface to attach itself to. Adding water from an already cycled tank has the bacteria to support a new set up tank. But it is also a good idea to keep cycled media on hand to add to the process BUT you don't have too. And go smoke a joint or something cuz you have a terrible attitude

    • @Iamaguienapig
      @Iamaguienapig 6 лет назад +3

      MrSpeakerguy44 No it doesn’t my guy. I’m sorry but you’re talking absolute shit. If you simply use that clever tool we have called GOOGLE and type in “the nitrogen cycle” you’ll easily find that 90% if the good bacteria lives in the filter and the rest lives on substrate. It does not “float in the water.” Seriously.

    Love that you are keeping your Betta in the 5g tanks vs little bowl. They will do so much better. Glad that you clerified that you used some of the old filter media. So many think the old tank water has the beneficial bacteria. Instead, it lives on surfaces like filter media, gravel etc. Nice job on the review. Looking for a cheap solution for a quarantine tank.

  • @araculyy
    @araculyy 6 лет назад +21

    i don’t believe that you really did put in cycled media, for the pure fact that you said in the video that the water holds the cycle and not the media. to add cycled media to that filter you would’ve had to remove some type of extra pad, bio balls etc you had in your other filter which i doubt you had considering you don’t even really know what a cycled is. i mean, cmon, you told one commenter to replace their filter pad which you should never do... that is throwing away the whole cycle. you just rinse the filter pad in removed tank water every once in a while. you even said you didn’t know if the thermometer went inside or outside the tank... if you do stuff like this, especially making videos which will misinform so many people, own up to your mistakes instead of lying about them. all of us who are really into the fish keep hobby can see the mistakes and lies right out your ass. you even said “inexperienced betta owners” typically buy those tanks... and that’s what we all see you as. you cannot call yourself a seasoned betta owner, please stop misinforming people. there’s already enough people who abuse bettas and keep them in horrible conditions.

      jakklex d lmao you clearly don’t know anything abt fish keeping. just because she’s doing things slightly better than the people who keep bettas in bowls doesn’t mean she’s still doing it right. why not go the extra mile to make sure you’re doing it right and literally just do a couple minutes of research??? it doesn’t excuse letting fish get fin rot which she’s said she has, fin rot is caused by bad water quality. You know what causes bad water quality? Uncycled filters and tanks, not enough or correct water changes, and the plants she lets die in her aquariums because she won’t take a couple minutes to research how to have plants in an tank. If she doesn’t want to properly care for the plants, she’s also going to harm the fish with them dying and decaying causing them to lower the water quality. “so stfu”

    Reducing/blocking the flow will allow massive amounts of algae to grow and over run your tank. Also you have to let the tank cycle for more than a few days as the nitrites and ammonia levels can spike and kill your fish. I would recommend safe start when doing water changes along with some stress coat. I would also recommend getting the master water testing kit so you can test the ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, and ph levels in the water.

    I just got a 5 gallon Penn Plax rimless tank...It also had all accessories in this dumb box that was GLUED to the bottom of the tank. I had to pull like hell and when I finally got it out it left two round plumps of glue/cardboard which I then had to scrape off with a spoon. Because of this scraping at times the spoon slipped and hit the glass really hard. Eventually I found out the bottom side area of the tank was chipped and was leaking drop by drop of water. WalMart allows returns but the darn tank was over $80.00 and I had nothing but trouble with it. I did research on this tank and no one mentioned the glue at the bottom....that was the worse. I think the tank got shoved around in the box as WalMart used NO packing materials and the tank was in a huge box rumbling all around. Live and Learn

    I got the one gallon tank by the same brand for my Betta, and he loves it. Also, the person I worked with at pet smart said that the heaters shorten the life of a Betta because it makes them reach maturity faster. just a tip. XX

    • @allisten9169
      @allisten9169 6 лет назад

      Abby, this is absolutely not true. Bettas are tropical fish, so they should be kept between 78-82 degrees. If fish are kept outside of their temp recommendations, then it can shorten their life span. If they are kept in too low of a temp, it stresses them out, and makes their immune system weak. They will get illnesses more often, shortening their life span. If you keep them too warm, then it does speed up there metabolism, shortening the overall lifespan. Unless you live in a tropical climate, you will need a heater.
      Also bettas should be kept in a tank that is 2.5 gallons or more. 2.5g is the bare minimum that is considered acceptable. Most serious fish keepers keep them in 5 gallons or more.
      I personally wouldn’t follow the instructions of a PetCo employee. They rarely give good advice. Sometimes you will find one or two that do know what they are talking about, but this is few and far between.

And then I noticed when it’s plugged in, it starts to flow into the tank. Is that going to cause the tank to overfill? How full do I want to fill the tank? I have the same tank you demo’d.
