    About the pea puffers, if you only have one it can be more aggressive due to them liking shoals of 6 or more in bigger tanks. But then again like dogs each puffer has its own personality. Just a warning, also they are terrible swimmers so don't have a tank with strong water flow. In 10 gal tanks, shrimp MAY be a fine choice if they are bigger. Again depends on personality of puffer. Another warning, snails are a great snack for these guys so don't expect your ramhorn to become buddies with the puffer. Pea puffers LOVE plants.

    After watching your content I was inspired to buy the 5Gallon Portrait tank. We finally received it and have it all set up. It's absolutely gorgeous. Quick question though, given that it is a 5 gallon enclosure, would you recommend having an oxygen pump installed? That it’s the complete opposite of EVERY resource I’ve seen on pea puffers. Everything I’ve seen says they are on the aggressive side, keep a single in 5g. and add about 3g. for each subsequent puffer and keep at least 2-3 females per each male. Also best to have a heavily planted tank to avoid territorial aggression.

I have it on low right now and the shrimp babies don't seem to be getting sucked up but I've lost several adults over the past months. I'm thinking the oxygen might be too low? The reason one would never want to use this tank for livebearers, or breeding is the babies will get sucked into the back of the tank, and almost impossible to get out. This filter has the ability to be adjusted up to 85 GPH, which is quite powerful. I am more experienced at aquariums, have a Betta and 5 Lemon Tetras. The light is good enough to grow Java Ferns very well. The glass is so much easier to take algae off than acrylic. The rear wall is plastic. A major disadvantage of this tank is if a part goes out Marineland is NOT stocking replacement parts. I can actually still get parts from them for my Eclipse 2 that is 22 years old, yet nothing for the Eclipse or Contour. No, the Eclipse 2 is not perfect, though I was able to get a new Filter Pump, and modified it to put a new light in the lid. I got one of those LED light you turn on with your phone and choose a bunch of color options. I Gorilla Glued the suction cups to the top of the lid, (or was it silicone), I do modifications like that….

    Would 6 ember tetra, 2 snails and 2 cherry shrimp be good for 5 gal?

    • @lotuslady9821
      @lotuslady9821 2 года назад

      No, a general rule for beginners is to do 1 in of fish per gallon. But it also depends on your setup. If you aren’t willing to have live plants don’t risk this many fish. Also keep in mind that cherry shrimp will breed like rabbits if the water conditions are right and if they are male and female. About 4 ember tetras and a snail would be a good start. But this is just my opinion so more seasoned hobbyists might have better advice.
      ETA: 6 tetras might be okay if they are smaller. I think embers grow out to 1 in I think so maybe you will be okay. You would have to do a lot of cleaning though to keep up with their waste. Most care guides recommend a 10 gallon tank for them.

      @@rd0303. 3 male guppies can be kept in a 5 gallon tank as long as there are plants for hiding spots and a decent filter. I wasn’t talking about the frog but I agree.

    5 gallons are two small for a betta…people think that because they live in shallow areas they don’t room to swim…they actually swim good distances. And are too big fur that size tank anyway.

      @@Pharmaquatics They might be hardy in their habitat but in a 5 gallon tank they might last 1 maybe 2 years. So many things can go wrong with them swim bladder, ick then when they get sick they stay sick forever suffering before they die. I like tetras because when they get sick they die right away. No hassle trying to figure out what they have wasting money on meds that hardly work.

      @@rmac6420 honestly the death of fav betta has really turned me off twice. First time he was like 3 and had moved with me from Southern California up to Seattle. He was perfect! Ans then I bought him a 10 gallon and he was dead in a couple of weeks. Many years later in Phoenix started again and when Bart died after 7 months I was really like - meh -. Trying again without any bettas but man. I miss hiw friendly the are and their tricks and just everything. Right now my guppies tetras and cory's aren't friendly at all.

    Endler males will fight, dwarf puffers become stressed while alone. Come on dude do real research

    • @Pharmaquatics
      @Pharmaquatics  2 года назад

      though endler aggression is definitely a thing, you rarely see instances where this leads to a failed tank due to over bickering or stress
      there are PLENTY of case examples where a solitary dwarf puffer can thrive on its own as long as the tank is scaped correctly
      but nice try though bud
