My girlfriend and I ended up learning the hard way about the reality of this issue. One day she noticed one of our ferrets was getting lethargic and not being playful, but he was still so sweet and cuddly when we let him out. He had a hard lump in his belly, so we took him in for examination. Vets weren't really able to properly diagnose him but told us it was a slight possibility for cancer. Unfortunately for us by the time they had gotten results back from tests they ran it was far too late, and the cancer had spread rapidly. We have another ferret he was bonded with, and we've been closely monitoring her for changes in her behavior ever since, so we can be able to react to it quicker if it happens again. Rest in peace Moxxie, you were a sweet baby. And a big thanks to Thor for using his platform for education as much as he uses it for entertainment.
I had a ferret for about 7 or 8 years, we didn't know any of the information that you do and she managed to live a long time somehow. Her name was Marriam and she was a sweet baby. I hope you can still have a bit more time with your little friend.
My ferret sadly passed away today after we fought half a year for her to live She was just 1.5 years old, and she lived with us for 1.2 years only, but she was like a daughter to me
When I moved here in 2008, I was downtown way more often than I now. There was one guy who had a small army of ferrets, I could never count them all but I think it was 9 or even 10 ferrets - on a leash. He'd take them on walks through the city. That was so adorable to watch. Haven't seen him in a minute, I hope he and his ferrets are still ok.
Living with animals that you know you will outlive, that become your dear friends and family, means signing up to one day hurt so soul crushingly much for that opportunity to share a loving relationship together. Enjoy the time you have with them, care for them and they will care for you too in their own way.
so sorry to hear Loki will be leaving you soon. I know how much these little guys can get into your heart and make a home there. I have a ferret with a slipped disk. I've been nursing him for a while. He's only just over a year old. He's my best buddy. Its been rough and the thought of saying goodbye is just breaks my heart. I'm hoping against hope he'll walk again one day but its kind of unlikely I think. I'm giving him the best life I can. But its still hard because there might be a time sooner than later when I have to say goodbye because his quality of life isn't there. At the moment, he's still my buddy. I always like to think of it this way ... as pet owner we got to make sure they had awesome lives. they knew only kindness and love and had great lives because of us. We got to make their lives awesome for the time they had on earth. And we get to do that again for others. They will never be forgotten they will always be in your heart.
Having lost my two ferrets many years ago now - one to adrenal disease, one we believe to insulinoma, both lived to about 8 though - it makes me very happy to see someone who not only loves ferrets, but is so knowledgable about them. I was fortunate that one of the best ferret vets in the country lives out here in Oregon. I miss those little guys a lot. I haven't had ferrets in a very long time though, is Marshalls' breeding practice still the leading cause of these conditions? I know that it was a really big problem years ago, where they would spay/neuter their kits WAY too early and essentially increase their chance of insulin/adrenal issues later in life by orders of magnitude.
Its mostly us ferrets and yea, alot of inbreeding at marshalls has basicly cascaded the gene pool to hell with a very long recovery if anyone but marshalls could breed them and send them to pet stores and such.
This happened to my one and only ferret… I was away for a week and left him with family and when I got back I took him to the vet but it was too late, I lost him that night and it killed me
sounds similar to hypoglycemia in adults. sugars build up in the body to a critical point and then the body overcompensates by dumping a shit ton of insulin all at once. and any non-complex carbs and sugars just vanish and you go into a low blood sugar state.
I've had over 20 ferrets in my life. Insulinoma and adrenal disease are the worst. I don't buy them; I take them in frrom people who buy them at local pet stores and regret it but aren't allowed to return them. People also don't realize how much vet bills are for them, a little ferret alone costs more in vet bills than my german shepherds and huskies.

I'm a Type 1 Diabetic so the discussion about Insulinoma always piques my interest. I have no idea about the Ferret side of things, but I can talk a bit about the human side. While it's a very important function of the Pancreas, producing Insulin is not the only role of the Pancreas. It also helps break down foods during the digestion process and neutralizes stomach acid that escapes your stomach. However, I am curious why it's not possible to reduce a Ferret's Pancreas to a smaller size and maybe regulate glucose levels via Insulin injections? Is it because it also plays multiple roles in their body like Humans do? Is there even Insulin that's compatible with a Ferret's body? No idea if these questions will be answered, but those are thoughts that have crossed my mind when this topic crops up.
taking care of my little old lady with insulinoma right now, it can definitely be scary when their sugar is low but if you're keeping a close eye on them its pretty easy to bring it back up, the real risk would be her crashing and me not being there within a few hours to help her. but keeping them as healthy happy and comfortable as you can in their old age is the best we can do, and certainly better than they would be with someone uneducated or in the wild. they deserve to live 2 million happy healthy years tho ❤
Who ever tf gifted me a sub thank you I only watch thors shorts specifically cause most the shit he talks about isn't my cup of tea (I just don't have the knowledge on the topics he talks about) but thor is a damn good man and we should all strive to be like him
Actually diabetes is exactly created by this high Insulin. Pancreas can’t put out that much insulin to store all the sugars you eat, in the end the pancreas can’t put out enough insulin anymore (diabetes Typ 2) until it doesn’t put out any insulin no more (Typ 1)
They always produce a noticeable musk, though I've noticed that the quality of their diet has an impact. They have scent glands all over their bodies. The term 'descented' refers to the removal of the anal glands, which is commonly done during a spay/neuter procedure.
he has a short about that somewhere. basically some males get a thing where they overproduce a thing and you can give em an implant to regulate this and its done. and for other ferrets its because their owners wash them, which makes em overproduce the oil on their skin. which makes em stinky. which makes owners bath em. which makes em even stinkier. rinse and repeat (lol literally rinse). so just giving them a sandbath to clean themselves, and not washing them in water helps them to not get stinky.
ferrets in america are insanely overbred, and inbred. they get insane medical conditions all the time. So i wouldnt call it cycle of life when they only die so quickly because of people breeding them in terrible conditions for medical studies and such.
Thank you for making us learn all this stuff ! If i ever do a fanart of your ferrets they're gonna bite someone's hand hard to show how alive they are >:°) And i wish you strenght for Loki ❤ Wherever she is, at any given time, she is gonna be both safe and happy

always wanted a ferret but understood they arent just any pet a person can have really, so i learned to train dogs. love the info you provide with all this because i feel like i made the right choice, still always want a couple now but hey, know your limits
all my ferrets had their hair fall out, I had no idea what was wrong, they lived for about 6 - 7 years. This was back in the 90's. They were also much larger than the ferrets I see in the stores today. I want to say they were roughly 1/3 to 1/2 in size larger, monster ferrets compared to what I see at my local pet stores.
usually thats an overproduction of a certain thing in ferrets. its also what makes em stinky. they then lose their hair and die 100%. can be fixed with a really simple implant to regulate this. maybe if you got multiple ferrets you should do more research. especially if all of them died a preventable death. a vet should (hopefully) have been able to diagnose this... so this seems like you didnt go to the vet, since this is a really common thing in ferrets and an easy fix
Only if you shower them, their body produces an oil(I think) for the fur and if you clean them regularly it will produce too much to overcompensate, which will cause the bad odour
How can he explain everything like the best teacher? I wasnt really into ferrets, just loved their cuteness and know im hoping for more lessons with teacher Thor about these animals.

No idea if these questions will be answered, but those are thoughts that have crossed my mind when this topic crops up.
Whatever and whenever it may happen, stay strong, dude. Ferrets are awesome!
taking care of my little old lady with insulinoma right now, it can definitely be scary when their sugar is low but if you're keeping a close eye on them its pretty easy to bring it back up, the real risk would be her crashing and me not being there within a few hours to help her. but keeping them as healthy happy and comfortable as you can in their old age is the best we can do, and certainly better than they would be with someone uneducated or in the wild. they deserve to live 2 million happy healthy years tho ❤

Sorry to hear that
The word for reverse diabetes is hypoglycemia. :V
Actually diabetes is exactly created by this high Insulin. Pancreas can’t put out that much insulin to store all the sugars you eat, in the end the pancreas can’t put out enough insulin anymore (diabetes Typ 2) until it doesn’t put out any insulin no more (Typ 1)
don't ferrets smell? or do they have their glands removed?
Insanely smelly.
@ plain wrong
Everhood 2 before Heartbound completion. At this rate GTA6 will beat you. I want my collectors edition money back.
Cycle of life, man.
ferrets in america are insanely overbred, and inbred. they get insane medical conditions all the time. So i wouldnt call it cycle of life when they only die so quickly because of people breeding them in terrible conditions for medical studies and such.
I still find it crazy that the genetics of ferrets is that destroyed in the US.
Thank you for making us learn all this stuff !
If i ever do a fanart of your ferrets they're gonna bite someone's hand hard to show how alive they are >:°)
And i wish you strenght for Loki ❤ Wherever she is, at any given time, she is gonna be both safe and happy
Yeah, and we’re supposed to believe that you’re a bad guy. Flipping haters man. Love ya dude 💪❤️
Haters want us to believe he's a bad guy because "hE DidNT APologIZE RIGht" for a bad pull in a videogame. They want to ignore the ferret rescue, the 10's of thousands he's helped raise for charity, the positive community he has built. They have no ammo, so they have to argue on emotion and outrage.
Who hates him?! What’s going on
One can have valid criticisms, and still admire, and support the ferret rescue
@@QueenOfDumpHe was playing wow with his teammates, and they told him to run repeatedly, so he did what they said and one of their characters died. They all got unreasonably upset with him over a video game, and then banned him from their clan. Now they’re just farming what happened for content, while simultaneously trying to give him a bad wrap for having a civil conversation with asmongold. Nothing serious but people are just crazy.
@ unreal.
always wanted a ferret but understood they arent just any pet a person can have really, so i learned to train dogs. love the info you provide with all this because i feel like i made the right choice, still always want a couple now but hey, know your limits
all my ferrets had their hair fall out, I had no idea what was wrong, they lived for about 6 - 7 years.
Is it true that ferrets smell really bad?
Only if you shower them, their body produces an oil(I think) for the fur and if you clean them regularly it will produce too much to overcompensate, which will cause the bad odour
You can remove some of their glands to help with the smell.
How can he explain everything like the best teacher? I wasnt really into ferrets, just loved their cuteness and know im hoping for more lessons with teacher Thor about these animals.
I think you should look up how he taught Lacari how to be a mage
@slothman1023 i wont hop on this train of drama. Imagine everything u have ever said in real life would be scanned and put in a complete different context. Its so unreal how ppl go over and over this scene and see all the bad. Streamers are human and no robots. And the toxic community is like hungry zombie rats on a piece of flesh. Focus on ppl who are really doing bad things...ah wait u dont even want to.

Lowkey people sending death threats because a person was cowardly in a video game is actually insane

So we have people disliking even this kind of video? Really? You have to be special kind of degen to do that.
Exactly. People really do take video games too seriously.
@@Laptican I mean he took it seriously to, to the point where he can't admit fault. To see the fault in the people complaining about him, while forgiving him for the exact same thing is strange to me. "People take video games too seriously", so why not just simply say "my bad" instead of quadrupling down? Would've avoided all this.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to dislike bomb his videos, I still watch his shorts because they're informational regardless of who's giving me the information.
