THANK YOU for this! I usually pause to watch the onscreen transcript, but this is helpful too because RUclips shows translations of your comment text, and that sometimes helps me get the jokes.
But it doesn’t help me get ALL the jokes … for example, may I ask you, or anyone here: in the dialogue between sensei and Takashi, the auto-translation explains the “breasts” joke … but what is the joke with おはようごぜえます in the first place, is that an error in pronunciation, or is it a different but impolite form of the greeting? I didn’t understand that one.
      Thank you again!! ArigatougoZAImasu!!

One of the uses for じゃない/じゃん sounds like it could sub out for "if it isn't."
Like when you see a friend in English, a lot of times you'll say "Well, if it isn't my old buddy Sam!" 「あ、サムさんじゃん/じゃない!」fits the same bill.
Same for if you open a unexpected/exciting gift. Depending on your inflection/how you say it, it could be "Oh! Well, if it isn't a Dyson! Thank you!" or "Oh, well if it isn't a mug. Guess I'll find some room for this one. Thanks, I guess."

I really appreciate Kaname's use of discursive tone in his explanations. On a related note, Ninja Warrior's English dub is superb; it captures the discursive tone, the sentiment, of the performance - at least, /I\ think so.

You know, I had a lot of trouble making sense of the actual negative question (with emphasis on な)
I kept thinking of the previous example, and it just sounded weird to me.
Eventually, I just replaced トイレ with ペン in my head and immediately thought of a guy picking up what seems to be a pen and being confused because it doesn't write :D Suddenly this made a whole lot more sense to me.
I've definitely heard all of these before and they feel pretty intuitive, that one particular example aside.

It’s so nice to see I’ve been using janai appropriately and understood it without any real study on how the nuance of its use works before.

I really wish someone would take the time to compile all these sample sentences into Anki decks. Its so hard to find high quality REAL AUTHENTIC decks.
This is what all of us should be modeling from. It is so high class.

The “じゃない” question intonation is one I actually picked up subconsciously, super intuitive if you ask me. (Can’t say the same for most other parts of the language, lol.)

That cleared up some confusion I had about じゃない. The textbooks only ever taught me the negative form and didn't explain the expectations based meaning. Caused a lot of misinterpretations for me. I think I understand it a lot better now. Ty Kaname!

Could I suggest that you look at using some light diffusers or something similar to reduce the glare from your lighting off of your glasses? Your setup is great but I think the glare was very noticeable for this video

I would have to agree both that this video was its usual high quality, and that future ones would benefit from less glare reflecting from his glasses. 🎄

In my head, at least i always translated じゃない as something like "isn't it?" Or "it's not" Due to じゃない" being a negative question or answer based on context. It almost shouldn't be considered the same word when used in different contexts. I suppose the easiest example would be "かみ" hair/paper/god not the same things but uses the same kana (in aware kanji exist in this case, but if じゃない had kanji it would be the same thing)
