Thank you! I am a granny spending my future Soc. Sec. on my dream vehicle. My oil changes are free for life. It had 4 miles on it November 29th, and only a little over one thousand now. I was told to wait until the oil is 15% before changing it. Subscribed, may not be able to do some things you do, but wonderful to watch anyway.
It should show you remaining oil life, so that allows you to plan ahead. It takes into account things like engine RPM, temperatures, trip lengths, etc. It’s a more accurate method than just going by your odometer. For other items the Maintenance Minder notifies you about, they’re not going to be emergencies, so you can tend to them when you return from a trip or whenever. If you do the maintenance yourself, just remember to reset the MM afterward.
I have a 2018 accord, 21k miles so far, 70% highway, 30% city. Baby is great on mileage since i average around 30-50 mpg depending on traffic and type of driving. The vehicle so far is reliable. I expect to get another 20k miles before the end of the year. By the end of next year i'm projecting another 50-60k miles so a total of 100k within 2 years. Let's see how well this car holds up. If it doesn't hold up well, i might just switch to an insight or the hybrid crv next. We'll see.
First two years of service generally doesn't require much other than oil change, tire rotation, wheel alignment. So it's not much of a perk. Besides i do my own tire rotation and oil change.
The air intake change is a Mod that you don’t need to do. The plastic one is fine. I have a 2009 CRV and never had one issue and the filters are dirt cheap on eBay along with cabin air filters. You can keep your ownership cost down by doing your own breaks / rotations / oil changes .
I drive a 2015 honda civic lx (23,000 MI). In the last three years, Ive only paid for air filter, wiper blades, and 1 tire rotation. The car came with a 6 years/80,000 mile "free" oil change included with he purchase. Honda's are great. My next car will probably be an accord but that is years away. Going to keep my civic until the wheels fall off.
Thanks for your down to earth Accord videos. I enjoy them. Now, you might want to reconsider upgrading cold air intake. I too upgraded my Honda's in the past. It's a waste of money practically and mechanically (Scotty's Garage). The noise level increases dramatically. Although you get few extra horse powers, it's not worth the cost. Several experienced mechanics agrees with me.
The rate at which most car fluids degrade will depend *greatly* on how the car is used. You can run engine/transmission fluids longer on mostly highway driving (without any extreme loads, like towing). I'd think the built-in maintenance reminder thingy accounts for most of that. If in doubt, do UOA (used oil analysis). Brake fluids, however, depend more on time, so I'd say every 2 years, unless the car is tracked, then way more often.
Say what you will about Honda's but it really is one of the most reliable car brands. It's built to last and like he said the maintenance is affordable. Easy to maintain and cheap to boot. It may not be the fanciest but it gets the job done in so many ways. I've been a Honda owner for as long as I can drive. Mainly the cars that I've own have been and currently Accords. Other than my first car being a Toyota pick up though, lol.
Definitely not. Standard autos usually come with a life time tranny fluid. But if Honda says to change it, change it, because toyota and mazda manuals don't say anything at all about transmission oil changes.
Certainly possible if you do a lot of highway driving. I used to put on 75k miles per year when I had a RAV4. Had over 300k miles on it when I got rid of it but it was in great shape.
Hi, how does your accord perform on a long drive highway speed drive? Is the engine noisy? The cabin in general... When going 75-85mph. I’m curious what’s the top speed on these accord.... thx
14 Accord and my experience is not all that different. I am ok with the maintenance minder, as I usually have all the filters and fluids on hand. As a plot twist, I use the Toyota branded 0w-20 as it is an excellent value proposition.
The manual says 25k if you drive through mountainous regions with heavier strain on the tranny. I think I will be safe at 40-50k. Early could never hurt though.
GarageProjects I made an inquiry at my local Honda dealer and that was their recommendation, every 30,000 miles. And you’re correct, changing it early will only prolong the life of the transmission. Also, I live in Atlanta, GA near the foothills of the Appalachians, so I’m in the terrain you’ve mentioned.
Gilberto Uribe The owners manual is a great rule-of-thumb, but when you’re in stop-and-go plus gridlocked traffic like I experience in Atlanta or any metropolis, for that matter, it’s best to change the transmission fluid every 25K to 30K miles. Pay a little now or a lot later. Cheers.
Do CVT oil change at the dealership or AAMCO every 30k miles. This particular car does not have a transmission dipstick. It needs to be leveled perfectly before draining and refilling the fluid.
I spent less on my 2017 ford fusion because it's oil lats as long as it's supposed to when using synthetic. I hate how often this oil has to be changed. Most cars go 10 months without an oil change when using synthetic oil but this car uses oil like regular oil.
I bought it in Arizona with 60,000 miles almost two years ago and I’ve driven from San Diego, California to Saint John, New Brunswick. Fluid filmed yearly now that I’m in Maine. Pads and rotors, new tires and I get free rotations every 3,000 miles, oil changes every 8-9,000 miles, and I need an alignment before winter. I’m pissed because I was stupid and still owe $16,000 on it. Makes me sick to my stomach but I’m stuck with it.
DONT do the k&n.. you're stock air box will give you better power and mpg throughout the rpm range. Mine from my accord is sitting in a box I put the stock back on.
Hondas are definitely cheap to own and maintenance... I'm grabbing the 2019 Touring 2.0T soon and have some unique ideas that I have yet to see in today's standards.. I'm dipping back to the 90s with a few ideas when I had my 91 Civic SI.. It will be a fun simple clean project ( I hope lol )... Ohhh, I wanted to add, I have noticed owning all the Hondas I have had when being new, the batteries only last for 2-3 years, not the 5 years they say... Once the battery is shot, grab a Diehard as I have been getting 12+ years on them... Maybe ita cause I live in SoCal who knows.. But let us know how long your battery lasts, I'm curious.

That's awesome only 120 for maintenance so far. I also don't like that the manual doesn't tell you when to change fluids/tune-up and the like. I have a 17 accord, does the timing belt have to be changed at 100,000 miles like the older accords?
The tires are only at 50% tread life left after 30k miles? That’s awesome for that low of a profile. My tires on my 2011 focus always wear out after about 45k, so it has made me nervous to choose a vehicle with low profile tires. I'm going for second service and they try and scam you about doing brake service....it's $240 in Canada and a total waste of money. I can buy a complete brake kit for that online
When stock is life and maintenance is cheap.... but with a modified acccord... More expensive replace tires to new once every 3 months, bunch of alignments, more fuel stops $40 every 2 days,
What about intake valves carbon deposit cleaning? Talked to honda service they said it's recommended at 45k miles. The carbon deposit is a known design flaw for all GDI engines.
Driving on the hwy is easy on a car. If you want a maintainance schedule buy a Hayes manuel for an older car. Remember that synthetic oils are much better than what was available back then. 50000 miles sounds right.
Hi man, Great videos about the Honda. Have you done any research about the 1.5 turbo engine oil dilution issue? I hear it affects the CRVs and Civics but the Accord has the same engine, correct? I'm thinking about buying this car but is now rethinking. Best, Gia
Another maintenance question: I need to get my first oil change. Should I go to the dealer or my local oil change place I took my old accord to that I trust? Do I really need honda oil and all that? I was thinking that since it's new I should go to Honda. Looking forward to an update on your accord GP.
@@rudysaucedo6659 Went to the dealer. New accords take synthetic only. I didn't know that at the time lol. The dealer is right by my job so it's convenient.
2018 ? You haven't had it long enough. I have a 2009 CRV that all I have done to it is 2 batteries and a set of tires in 90k miles. It is ready for another set of tires. Mechanically we have had no trouble with it. A couple of recalls over the years. I have the oil changed every 5000-6000 miles with synthetic oil and the tires get rotated with every oil change. My CRV was made in Japan. Most of the Accords are built in Ohio?
2018 Camry. Total cost of ownership after 25k miles: ZERO. Toyota care includes all the maintenance. (Also the tranny fluid is lifetime). And the Camry has timing chains so no need to fix that. Also... Why would you put a custom intake in... It's proven that on cars like the Accord and Civic the power gain is 0. Note: if a manufacturer tells you to change your transmission oil, do it. Cause that means it will probably break if you don't. But if it doesn't tell you to, you don't necessarily need to. There are millions of cars that have never had their transmission fluid even looked at let alone changed and they run fine. Day to day driving in the 1000-3000rpm range shouldn't be an issue. Unless you really do strain your car, tow loads, or have awd. But I've seen drift cars that have never had transmission oil changed... And even they run fine.
Daniel G I was wondering where you saw that an intake has no power gain. PRL has created an intake for the 2018 accord and it has been tested to create around a 16 to 18 hp gain.
i own the same car, but you should watch the scotty kilmer video about lifetime transmission fluid. He is a lifetime mechanic and says yeah, it’s lifetime , a shortened lifetime.. All hydraulic fluids are degraded by heat. Transmission fluid gets very hot. It will break down and get particles in it from clutch pack material, etc.. If your gonna keep it, find a way to change it after 50,000 or so
@@boldcitycc after multiple cars I've never changed tranny fluid. Even on 200k+ cars and they ran just fine with "lifetime" fluid. It's mean to be enough for the average consumer and dumping 2-3k into a car you'll most likely sell just for tranny fluid is pointless. Scotty is just cheap and would rather spend pennies here and there than to bulk sum a new car.
Are you going to do a handata tune with the filter? I heard if you don’t tune at the same time you lose horsepower with the filter as the tune is not only for the cars performance, but for the Mods you add as well.
Yes, I was planning on the Stage 1 Honda tune. I also researched that the intake/exhaust will add very minimal if any HP/Torque to this engine platform. The stock systems currently aren't very restrictive on this car, so a tune will be needed to see any noticeable gains.
I'm finding very little right now in my researches with the mods I want done to the 2019 Touring 2.0T ... Not much out yet for being a 10th Gen.. Hopefully we start seeing stuff soon..
I drive accord 2018 ex-l, current mileage is 13,000. Did two regular oil change and tire rotation. Spent 160$ for two servicing. I wonder how you spent that less driving 30,000 miles.
Well, he's smart and do the oil changes himself unlike you annual, go to the dealer and have your shit done there. Why people are so dumb, like my brother in-law goes to the dealer all the times and they rate his ass every time. I just laugh....cuz the shit they (Service Manger) more like thief recommend is BS...always up sale you shit you don't needs...remember needs not he/she think you needs. LOL
But it’s not really necessary to change it but if you change it then you have to keep changing it but it’s not necessary you can keep it forever and to the car dies and then won’t have any problem
Honda's have great engines but don't get one with a CVT trans. If you do and you want to keep it past the warranty you will regret it. And I would avoid the turbo also. They are to small an engine for a turbo, they are just for the mileage tests. They create to much heat for such a small engine.
If you drive this much, why would you not buy the most fuel efficient car? Honda usually avoids putting shitty parts on their cars, and I believe you're over thinking it like most car, motorcycle, bicycle, etc... enthusiasts.
Man long as you keep your main maintenance on time the car will last you forever and you don’t really need to change the transmission oil transmission oil will last until the car die you don’t really need to change that that’s the Japanese car and an American car
Real One I have a ‘04 Accord lx sedan 2.4L and barely have spent anything on it. The only main thing I’ve had to spend money on is my AC compressor. My car has 209,000 miles and runs AMAZING! I drive my my car everyday and put about 36k miles on it a year.
Save your money and do not get a CAI. Just get a good drop in filter like a K&N or AFE. Like the 1.5 engine in my 2017 Si, CAIs do nothing for performance in the Accord's 1.5. Total waste of money especially for someone taking pride in spending only $120 in 30k miles. If you want to make good reliable power, go with a tuner from either Hondata or K-Tuner. Has your can slid of the Rhino Ramps are have they been pretty stable and reliable??
Very Reliable with no sliding. I only use them for changing my oil. Any other job, I use a jack+jack stands.
Kevin
I bought rino ramps and the first time I drove up On them they split. Stronger than steel my ass.
Kirill Denisov use chevron fuel ,u can check throttle carbon build up with scanner or physically if you are concerned about cleaning it.
I work at Honda and it's recommended to change trans fluid every 30k
Driving on the hwy is easy on a car. If you want a maintainance schedule buy a Hayes manuel for an older car. Remember that synthetic oils are much better than what was available back then. 50000 miles sounds right.
Peter B. Absolutely. Generally agreed that highway is only 10% of wear of city driving
Big mistake if you replace the air intake
Hi man,
Great videos about the Honda. Have you done any research about the 1.5 turbo engine oil dilution issue? I hear it affects the CRVs and Civics but the Accord has the same engine, correct?
I'm thinking about buying this car but is now rethinking.
Best,
Gia
Gia Cao Dane here still wondering if it was the same problem
do you use synthetic oil or use conventional oil? Since at the dealer they are adamant about synthetic oil
Cars nowadays used full synthetic oil....it's better and suppose to last long.
50k miles in a year is not in the 99th percentile...average miles is less than 15k/year.. You're in the 1 percentile lol
Another maintenance question: I need to get my first oil change. Should I go to the dealer or my local oil change place I took my old accord to that I trust? Do I really need honda oil and all that? I was thinking that since it's new I should go to Honda.
Looking forward to an update on your accord GP.
were did u end up going?
@@rudysaucedo6659 Went to the dealer. New accords take synthetic only. I didn't know that at the time lol. The dealer is right by my job so it's convenient.
Has anyone run 91 octane in their 1.5t? Hondata has a dyno chart that rates the engine output at around 220 hp and torque on 91 octane.
If your gonna keep it, find a way to change it after 50,000 or so
just by you saying that trans fluid is lifetime, means you dont shit about cars.
@@ap1998 Toyotas transmission fluid has also been tested to resist 95% degradation at 250k miles. So...
I talked to a HONDATA guy and he told me the CVT and 1.5t cars cant be tuned...
buuuuut then again... the civic 1.5t does soo I guess he was BSing me??
I'm finding very little right now in my researches with the mods I want done to the 2019 Touring 2.0T ... Not much out yet for being a 10th Gen.. Hopefully we start seeing stuff soon..
Ryan M. If you go to hondata website they have the tuner for the 2018 accord 1.5t.
I drive accord 2018 ex-l, current mileage is 13,000. Did two regular oil change and tire rotation. Spent 160$ for two servicing. I wonder how you spent that less driving 30,000 miles.
He said he does it himself obviously he saves more money.
LOL
This video is about you and not about your honda. Its for girls.
Just wait until one of your LED DRL's goes out. Your staring at a $750 bill.
Could tell you was from Maryland by the way you’re speaking lmao idk why it’s like that but it isss
What do you do for work?
Sales Management
Man long as you keep your main maintenance on time the car will last you forever and you don’t really need to change the transmission oil transmission oil will last until the car die you don’t really need to change that that’s the Japanese car and an American car
I change my transmission fluid every two years. That works out to be 30,000 miles. It's cheap at $75. My car has 145,000 and counting.
lol its nice trying to save 100 bucks on fluid compared to a few thousand for a transmission, believing in that dumb idea.
Accords cost soooo much to own it’s ridiculous, I’m glad I got an M3
Real One I have a ‘04 Accord lx sedan 2.4L and barely have spent anything on it. The only main thing I’ve had to spend money on is my AC compressor. My car has 209,000 miles and runs AMAZING! I drive my my car everyday and put about 36k miles on it a year.
Real One and when I first got it I wasn’t driving nearly as much as I have in the last 2 ish years
Alana Elliott mine was an 04 Accord EX
This car is so dirt cheap to maintain and will drive forever.
Check out Hondata for sure: www.hondata.com/flashpro-accord-2018-1.5
Honda into your of the best car in the whole entire world it will last you forever
Does anyone drive the manual transmission? I have never purchased an automatic transmission. It's too boring.
if u do all your tlc u save a shit ton of money but if you want hondas help. Money blood sucking thieves. so i spend alot of time researching maintenance task's etc. im a aviation maintainer so i like proper maintenance done on time
What I’ve seen on yt you shouldn’t do the air intake install also K&N isn’t for a daily car
The $120 is very impressive, I know it's the first 30k miles but still. Do you use regular oil or full synthetic?
Full Synthetic since my first oil change.
Newer Hondas require Synthetic Oil OW-20
GarageProjects how are you getting 7k miles on each oil change ?
@@Iegend17 probably alot of highway miles and not many short trips. i get about 7k on my oil but it burns about a quart at the 7k mark. i got a 17 accord though, hitting that vtec every day
30k in less then a year? Omg that's alot...
Toyota Camry 2017 38k maintenance 40 bucks car driven in New York City brooklyn not out of state highway drive it’s nothing for the car take to New York after 5k you’ll need more way more the reason the cab drivers use Camry
Rafalp Gresiak v6 or 4 banger
My Honda Clarity will cost 1/10 of the Accord maintenance. I still have more than 3/4 of a tank of gas after 1,000 miles of driving. I’ll probably get 700 mpg this year, or maybe double that. I drive 18,000 miles a year. I charge for free at work and my Clarity was $21,000 after rebates and tax credits.
My OWNER GUID book have the service plane for each period. Let me get your email to send it to you, if you want.
How you even know its a crappy filter?
On da flip side, gas fuckin sucks a fat one n the turning radius gotta be the worst of all time
So cheap...until you hit a squirrel
That's a shit loads of miles just in one year you must be a drug Trafficker
I change me oil every 4000, not sure how it lasts you 7000 miles.
Wow you change your super early
Gilberto Uribe I follow whatever the car says lol. I mean I know German cars last from 8k-10k. I do put synthetic in my car and I have been changing it from the Honda dealer.
Me thinks that's too soon
Moe Anthony where do u change it from then ?
*My* sir?
Car payment? Tsk, Tsk, Tsk.
When that crap CVT goes bad you’ll be shelling out a ton of money
y u cry about it? not your money, u piece of shit... that's IF it were going to happen.
@@disco.lemonade mind your own business! Move along!
why u drive so much
Honda has weak transmissions....50-60k...change the fluid.
WASTE OF MONEY BETTER BUY HYUNDAI ELANTRA FUEL ECONOMY BETTER DCT ENGINE THAN HONDA CVT!!!
