As the owner of this particular honda accord that was reviewed I have to be honest and say I've never had more fun in a car while also being relatively economical. The Camry cheer leading reminds me of team AMD vs Team Intel. The truth is that both are probably fantastic cars and do the job well enough. After that it's simply a matter for personal preference.

So in five years save maybe $3-4,000 and loose maybe $17,500. I'm a mechanic too, it's so inexpensive driving old vehicles. This looks like Honda's F1 technology and combined electric/gas usage is funneling down into production cars. It took them a few years to perfect the tech when they reentered F1 but now their power plant (Red Bull/Verstappen) is almost untouchable. Good on you Honda! I do need to preface this praise for Honda. Our last seven vehicles have been Hondas.

If you want or need performance beyond the ecco mode, the system seems capable of combining electric and gas power to provide enhanced performance. If the system is a true combined use/on demand use, that is F1 flexibility. I don't know that other hybrids have offered that flexibility.

Sooo, just how did the Accord kill the Camry????? Seems to me they are about the same except the Camry hybrid (you do know the Camry comes as a hybrid?) doesn't use clutches that can wear out. As I remember the Camry gets better mileage at 51 or 52 MPG and has more HP from a larger engine. Uses an Atkinson engine and has AWD available. Camry has 10 years of warranty on the hybrid system (best hybrid system around, 20+ years) and battery with 100,000+ on the latter, FOR FREE!! And it has a spare tire!

    • @ErrorVector

You're right, was the Camry was even mentioned? Also rave reviews for the 25 Camry are coming out and I'm eager to see if Honda can push the lowest trim Accord Hybrid's MSRP below $30k like Toyota did. A key difference between the two (for my needs) is the extra 1.6cuft of trunk in the Accord. Which is - hmmmmm - roughly the size of a spare tire?

I have a '24 CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring with the same hybrid system as this Accord and I routinely get 40 mpg on average (because it's much heavier than this Accord). The vehicle is super smooth and the hybrid system is seamless; even the regenerative braking feels natural. I'm very happy with it. My first "non-100% gasoline" vehicle ever. Charging an EV or plug-in hybrid is a pita. Filling up my CR-V takes a couple minutes and could go for 500+ miles and could go across the country without worrying about where to charge.

Honda Hybrid accords and Hybrid CRVs don’t have transmissions. They call it an eCVT but they should go away from calling so. It gives the appearance that Honda hybrids have CVT type transmissions. It’s an electric motor that is propelling the car forward and backwards. The gas engine 😮drives the main axel only after the car is going about 60+ miles per hour. The engine is basically either charging the battery or spinning a generator that in turn supplies power to the electric motor.

@@gizmotechk Partly true: the base LX and EX models are conventional 1500cc turbo-charged engines with conventional CVTs, while the Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and Touring are 2L Atkinson engines with "Series Hybrid" transmission (no CVT), meaning that the motor charges the battery and the battery with inverter drives the wheels via the motors. (That's what was happening in Scotty's demo ride). One of the motors acts as a generator in regen (decel) mode. Lastly, with the Honda series-hybrid configurations, there is a specific speed range where the engine locks to the wheels (no transmission, just a full 1:1 lock) for max economy. It's only a narrow range, because the Atkinson cycle engine is only efficient in a narrow range, but it's still good. I don't remember what the speed range is, off-hand, but if I remember correctly it's in the medium-high end cruise range.
I have and love the Honda Clarity, which is the plug-in hybrid. Everything is the same as the regular hybrid except that the battery is bigger, knocking down the gas tank capacity to 7 gals, but giving you up to about 48 miles of electric range in warm weather. Obviously it has a charger built in, and obviously it can run as a regular hybrid, but it's a waste to do so, as the mileage you get in pure EV mode is insane if most of your travel is around town. In fact the computer actually runs the engine once in a while whether you ask it to or not, just to keep the bearings lubricated and prevent the gas from getting stale. The clarity also has a charge mode, where you can put a few miles back into the battery for driving the last few stop-and-start miles of a long interstate journey in full EV mode, where that mode really shines.

The Toyota Prius doesn't run the gasoline engine all the time and I am sure the Honda doesn't either. Otherwise it wouldn't average 46MPG. That means it probably will get 54-55 MPG HI way only. Our 2007 Prius matched that mileage number almost exactly. I got 54 MPG hiway driving Ga to FL 285 miles one way driving 65-75 MPH.

    • @julianopificius6910
      @julianopificius6910 21 день назад

@@hollisrogers599 My Prius, which is a 2013, runs the engine all the time it needs to deliver torque. Yes, the engine stops when the vehicle is at a halt, but the electrical torque delivery systems is only able to run the vehicle at less than about 12 mph, and for no more tan about a quarter of a mile, maybe a half. The engine starts again as soon as I pull away.
The mileage you get, as do I, isn't a function of intermittent operation of the engine in a regular hybrid; it's a function of a) the aerodynamic shape, b) the low rolling friction tires, and c) the energy recovery system of the hybrid system.
In contrast to the Prius, my 2021 Honda Clarity, which is a plug-in hybrid with a much more powerful electrical powertrain (same as the hybrid Accord discussed here, except for a 1500cc engine rather than the 2L engine of the Accord, but a much bigger battery) can run easily at 80 mph and go for 45 miles (though not necessarily at the same time) from a full charge in full EV mode.

I still wouldn't get the extended warranty. I purchased a 2019 honda civic...bought the top of the line warranty, supposedly bumper to bumper.....
After about 6 months the car would randomly refuse to start. They replaced the battery the first time. Went about 3 months with no issues, then all of a sudden the car refused to start again. The second time they told me they could not find the issue. The service manager literally told me "this is embarrassing but no components are testing as bad but your car randomly doesn't start sometimes.....I can't replace any components under your warranty.... all we can do is bring it back in if the issue happens again"....
It does happen again....this time at my job which is an hour away from home. The free tow service from Honda got lost and took almost 3 hours to get to me but eventually I have my car towed and luckily there is a dealership minutes from my job... but the personnel for the service dept are gone for the day. ... the salesman from the other side are still there, I ask them If I could get a courtesy ride back home or even a courtesy vehicle while the car is worked on. They basically laughed at me and told me to kick rocks... "that has to go through the service dept". I had to pay for an uber out of pocket and had no vehicle for the next several days.
I ended up trading the car in at a toyota dealership and got a Prius. I will never, ever pay for an extended warranty again.

I’m not gonna even comment much on what was said in this video but I will say this. I have the 2024 Accord L and my wife and I have are just floored by it. We have had multiple generation Lexus GSs, Lexus ES, BMW 5 series and Infiiti Q70 plus multiple older generation Accords. This new accord Accord is easily the best deal of them all. It feels great to drive, looks great(when you actually seeing it in person), is comfortable with plenty of leg room and I’m getting nearly 43 MPG in sport mode. If you take away the fact that I didn’t spend 20 or 30 thousand more to for name and notoriety I’d have to say this is the best sedan I’ve ever owned. I can’t recommend this car enough. I’m being honest.
