  • I show you all the ways you can wire up LED light bars and light pods (both spot and flood beam) in your car, truck, SUV, golf cart, ATV, or other vehicle. Included in the video are my diagrams of how to wire relays to get various effects, such as DRL (daytime running lamps), lights that come on with your high beams or low beams, or any combination.

    Those brackets are installed backwards. If you install them with the concave part of the bracket against the light it gives you greater flexibility. And a much cleaner look.

    I'm wanting to install some lights like these on the rack of my PJ trailer..
    Are you able to run wiring directly to box on trailer to running lights with a switch that way when you have pig tail plugged in and running lights on you're able to toggle switch lights

    I have led lights that have an amber drl. Is there a way to wire the 4 lights together where you can turn the amber light and the regular white lights on separately

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  3 года назад

      yes - just like in the video, except make 1 switch operate the 4 lights, 1 operate your amber, and 1 for whatever else. If you want the DRL's to still operate as DRL's set up the relay so that it has the 2 power sources in and 1 out to the lights

    I have one harness that I have connected a 42in bar and a 20in bar because it’s made for only two light bars I’m guessing but I do have 4 pods two up front and 2 in the rear I just wanted to know should I get another harness for them or what should I do to connect the 4 pods

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  3 года назад

      not sure I'm understanding your question. If the power consumption is within the limits of your existing harness and you don't need separate control, you can hook them all to one. But if you need separate control you'll need at least a switch for each set you wish to control. Hope that answers your question. If not, please let me know.

    I have a 90W bar (20') and a 195W bar (32") can i hook up to a single line

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  Год назад +1

      for that much power you should choose about a 6 ga wire, possibly a 4 ga depending on the run. You can see the calculations here: learnmetrics.com/12v-wire-size-calculator-chart/

    • @MotorMenaceFPV
      @MotorMenaceFPV 6 месяцев назад

      Yes, you can hook it all up to a single line.
      90W/12V=7.5A + 195W/12V=16.25A
      7.5A + 16.25A = 23.75A
      And based on NEC (national electric code) 80% rule you need a wire rated for at least 19 ampacity.
      On a 15ft or less 12v run you need at least an AWG 10 (20A) wire.

    I have a question, I already have a existing harnes for one of my light bars, what i want to do is add another lightbar to my car which also comes with another harness. I will assemble the harness as i did for the other lightbar with its own relay, fuse and power but i only want one switch to control both of the lights. So will it be advisable to just have the new lightbar switch wires red and back directly connected to the existing switch?

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  2 года назад +1

      couple ways to do this... if the main switch can handle the power of both light setups then you have no problem. If not, have it trigger a relay that will turn on the second light set.

    • @WJHandyDad

      the same way you wire 1 light... you can hook up as many as you want as long as the load doesn't exceed 40amps

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  2 года назад +1

      I don't think these sorts of products ever pull as much power as they "rate" them at. You can test for yourself. Put an inline fuse and start with 5 amp fuse. If it blows, try 10amp. I doubt you'd need more than 10 or 20 amp to keep it running.

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  3 года назад +1

      oh, OK, I think I understand now. A 3 wire switch is usually used to have power on the switch itself (to light up) unless it's a SPDT switch, then it's going to direct power one direction or another. You should really spend a few dollars and get some relays and switches like shown in the video and do the wiring "right" for your safety

    I have a power and ground running from my power source ... I then split each to run into 2 different light bars ... but I have a delay in the second bar lighting up. It is a 1 second delay, but it is a pain in the rear. What do you suggest to get rid of that delay on the second lightbar?

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  2 года назад

      that's odd... does it follow the lights if they switch places or does it stay when the lights switch places?

    • @MotorMenaceFPV
      @MotorMenaceFPV 6 месяцев назад

      Make sure the leads coming from your power source are a larger gauge wire than the splitters leading to the lights.
      Also be sure you do not have excessive amounts of extra wire after the power switch on the circuit that is delayed.

    If I’m adding a light bar to my jeep, and I currently have LED cubes and halo headlights wired to the battery, am I okay to splice the light bar into the wires for the cubes and keep all of the remaining wiring, the relay and the fuse? Or do I need a separate relay, fuse, etc.?

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  3 года назад +1

      you would need to do a current test with a multimeter to see how much power is being drawn by each component and don't exceed the rating for the fuse(s) and relay(s)

    I was installing this exact setup on my jeep. I tested it before running the wires and they were super bright. But I was trying feed the relay through a space and the blue white and black wires that come from the control came out of the relay plug, I couldn’t figure out exactly where they came out of. I did the best I could reinserting them where I thought they belonged, but now the lights are not bright at all. Any advice?

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  Год назад +1

      sounds like it's not getting full power. Could be several reasons: bad ground or the power source that is powering them is compromised somehow. Bypass it and run a fused hot wire from the battery direct and see if they brighten up.

      I usually start with a 10amp and see. If it is blowing then try a 15, etc. I didn't measure the draw of this system and obviously it's going to be different depending on how many lights you run simultaneously.
