This probably the most informative and clear/concise tutorial I've seen. I was skeptical about wiring my own light bar myself, but thanks to you, I'll be probably be saving hundreds of dollars by doing it myself. Thank you for the video, Chris.
Thats a small sun you put on your car ;)
:D
Thomas Wallblom one he turned it on i sad to myself jesus christ thats some light
Youre the best! I just spent the last 2 nights losing sleep because every other video I watched on the subject they said “you’ll have to get power to the switch from SOMEWHERE in the cab”. No further explanation. But you, sir, you showed exactly how to het power from the fusebox. I cannot thank you enough!
When the video started I thought this would be a difficult task but you explained it so well I'm pretty sure I could do it myself! Thanks for the great video!
Thanks
Instead of zip ties use a few cushion clamps. They'll last longer. Looks cleaner too.

+Brennan Callan you seem very interested in Chris
+Brennan Callan you spend too much time writing your replies
+Brennan Callan As someone who holds 27 college degrees and 3 WWE titles, it's cute to see someone throwing out their degree count in a RUclips conversation. If getting a degree teaches you nothing else, it's that being clear and concise in your communications with others is of paramount importance, as knowing how to communicate lets you translate that giant warehouse of knowledge into something you can relate to others (hopefully without coming across as condescending!). Being needlessly wordy or skilled in nitpicking the works of others is not the same thing as being intelligent.
I'm a little late to the party here, but take a shot every time +Brennan Callan uses quotations...
I burned 300 calories while watching this guys video so far and just started episode 3! U r the man Chris!
That truck is so gorgeous and I want it!!!!!
So well done!!! Thank you so much!!!
Awesome project tutorial! thanks
I think you should make a video on power windows
What about power windows?
Great vid man. Full detailed. :)
Are you able to jump the power cable from each switch, similar to how you jumped the grounds, as long as each switch had it's own relay also? or would you need a separate switch tap for every switch?
Just so I can wrap my head around the actual activation of each switch :P can anyone help you've definitely given me the confidence to try and tackle something like this.
Idk man about that mount. I just zip tied mine to my license plate for 6 months 😂 I always walked out of school expecting the thing to be gone.
Chris love your videos!
I'm updating the rocker switch for my light bar and noticed that the ground wire coming from the relay to the ground post on the battery is getting hot.
Any idea why?
Greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Chris’s drawing is 3X better that my drawings, mine look like a 2 month baby drew it.
P.s not kidding
Nice job.
Does each switch have its own independent relay and fuse tap?
Nice little truck.
Thanks!
Where did you get the wiring harness? I’m trying to find a 12ft wire harness for my truck and so fair have had zero luck
Do you have a video on your welder?
PSSS AM WATCHING FROM AFRICA-KENYA
This is a serious question I literally have no idea about electrics but why couldnt you just have a positive from battery to a in line fuse to a switch to the lightbar then the negative all the way back to the battery, wouldnt that work the exact same?
Hi Chirs, can u tell us what type of switch is that.
So if you leave the light bar on will it drain your battery
Pretty Sharp Chris.
what kind of wire did you use at the reserve switches?
What if you cant find an open lead? Or any consistent output?
For what?
I'm gonna have to watch this like 7 times to understand the wiring process.
I'm about to do underglow and I'm seeing all kinds of stuff you never see in any other tutorials. I didn't know there was a fusebox on the steering rack.
Same about watching it like 7 times
Wiring is so easy, it’s just electricity isn’t something we can see so it’s harder to understand. So we mentally make it more difficult than it really is.
just buy a wiring kit.
@@petergross135 Running the wires sure is easy and interesting. Just be sure that you use the right size fuse and wire gauge. If you undersize it then you can set your vehicle on fire.

There are some people who ride near me that leave their bright lights on (High Beams) when driving. I installed a light bar on the front of my truck (My preference ) and so far, ive only had to turn it on twice to make the other person turn theirs off. (What I do is I flash them once with my High Beams and if they dont turn theirs off, I turn my light bar on and off real quick) (Its not the proper thing to do, but it works)
+Zipping Basher I do the same thing haha. They shut it off all the time when you use the light bar!
+ChrisFix my buddy has a rear facing light bar for tail gaters. works every time hahha
Haha, where I live, people drive with their light bars on.

@@BradyPhotgraphy so is driving drunk or high and people still do it.
you should do a how to wire subwoofer/amp.its really easy but nobody has made a good video of it yet.
Look up Meade916 he has a lot of great videos on that subject.
yessss
I could do a quick runthrough of my setup that i did myself stereo, subs, 2nd battery, speaker amp and upgraded speaker wires
Can somebody show me to do a fuse tap into my ignition with a toggle switch for amp turn on
@@JonathanMartinez-rv9ur
There shouldnt be a need for a fused line for the signal wire as it operates on an extremely low current that doesnt power anything
The way most would recommend you do this is to tap the signal(ON) wire leading to your stereo deck that way your amp is on when your stereo is

I'm actually considering installing a relay for my amp and crossover. Should they each have their own relay or can they be run to the same one?

Poldalp, common sense goes a long way if you have any. But considering most American males have lost that connection from learning things from their fathers.. Chris is closer to being a genius, compared to young men of the up and coming generations. Thanks for the video, Chris. Someone need to teach people basic auto care. I doubt if my kids know how to change their oil or replace a blown out tire. Not because I haven't taught them, because their cheating mother wouldn't allow it and said her PW husband could teach them... yeah that really worked.

@ChrisFix great vid. Any chance you'll be doing a dual battery setup on that Mazda, for running all that auxiliary lighting? I'd like to go that way on my F-150 and I know your step-by-step approach will be the easiest to follow.

Now, put a sticker above the switch reading "ejecting seat". You know, when you give people a ride and stuff :p
And now the hardest thing is going to resist using this bar on the road at night lol. It makes things so bright, you don't want to go back to normal beams :/
just turn it off when passing people, or do one like i plan on doing into the front of the truck rather than on top(this keeps it from hitting in eyes.)
i am so doing that now, im going to get an big red button and stick it to my console that says "seat ejector" or i could do "self destruct"

Bloody hell! you make everything look and sound so easy. When I even try anything like this like getting power to the sub in the back of my (Ehem, micra) it ends up being a herculean battle against bulkheads and stubborn interior panels (that change their shape after removal) resulting in bloody knuckles and foul language.
You should teach courses in auto maintenance and modification.
Keep up the top notch vids.

I’ve wired mine with a relay into my high beams with a switch in my dash wired into the light bar circuit so I can use my high beams regularly for on road driving and then with the switch on the light bar comes on with the highs
That's pretty big brain chief. I'm stealing it lol
My god what an incredibly thorough and clear explanation. Thank you!!
No problem!
Chris is always good about getting to the point and explaining everything.
Nearly five years later, and your video is still helping folks who love to DIY! Thanks Chris!!
this light bar costs $1000... damn
Yeah, I'm sure you get what you paid for but its not the right price for my project. They have cheaper led bars out there.
+No Name Rigid industries puts a screw every 10"
+Chris Maroney knockoff or real, thats bright as a welding machine lol
Ozan Gültekin I wasn't questioning the quality. I have a cheap 50$ 24" for a reverse bar that is really bright, eventually the LEDs will go out a lot quicker than Rigid.. Only reason why I know a screw over 10" is because I read that somewhere recently.
+Chris Maroney i know u werent questioning it. oh and also, all LEDs will last about the same i think.
Really impressed with your work 👍👍👍

8:43 The way you search for a usable fuse socked is incorrect. The way you measure, you assume that there is a resistive load connected to the fuse socket on the back, which is not necessary always the case. It can often be that the hot side of the socket is actually connected to the ACC switch and that the load side is not in use, then you'll measure nothing even though the fuse socket would be usable. You better use some bare piece of chassis as ground like a bolt, or pin 4/5 on your OBD port. It cannot harm to measure like you did, but you'll have a lot of false negatives by doing so. Also, the fact that you actually found an usable socket the way you did, indicates that you have an appliance in your truck which was not receiving power due to a missing fuse.
I love how detailed this video is. You explain the simplest things that probably should seem obvious. but its perfect for a guy like me that forgets everything 15 seconds after I heard it.
Just realized that this video is 7 years old, i bought a light bar and reverse lights for my truck and i just followed the steps and it works perfectly. Thank you!
Glad to hear! Thanks!
Great job on this video, Chris! It was definitely the best video that I've seen showing every single step in this process. You also did a great job not only talking about how to do things, but you showed technique and the appropriate tools. Really great job.
13:32, 8 wires are actually enough for 7 switches, since you only need one 12v wire from the fuse box
So multiple switches can come from the one fused power?
dgtlionbarger yes because the wire coming out is the only thing needed to differentiate the switches
Im pretty sure he put 8 wires for 4 switches to make the switches light up
Only if he uses relays in all of the new lights
I've watched since episode one! This was a great video! Lightbar came out great and as always the editing is awesome! A job well done!
Sir, for your three (3) videos in the construction of your truck's bedrails, headache rack and mounting system for your light-bar, paint job and electrical setup ... a most excellent set of informative videos. You did your major projects so simply constructed, explained so well as you were constructing them, overall paint job and electrical setup, that you made me feel I was there helping you all the way. You Sir, made it look so simple to construct this time-consuming project, yet produced such an "elegant" home-made job. Your construct ended rivaling a professional job, and yet you made it happen "your" way all-around. Your truck's lights, plus the light-bar's, makes for sone scary sunlight. You are no doubt scaring the bejesus out of all those crazy furry friends, wondering just what has happened to their world at night, and reaching for their "Kaopectate".
I congratulate you Sir, for a job simply very well made, and thank you for your hard work, as published.
You're going to have a hell of a time changing your battery
True
my exact thought
Well, there actually *_is_* only _one_ Pos. & _one_ Neg. on a car battery, so I don't really see any 'problem' . . . . .
I know
Nah, the alternator is always feeding power to the battery. So the battery will last as long as usual.
Excellent job I loved it
Quite an Illuminating 😇 project. Fine job.
Hey Chris, when you wired the additional 3 switches, are you going to jump them into the same fuse box slot 17, or does each switch need it's own fuse slot?
Also do they get their own relay
It's better to use a different slot. The slot he is using provides 12V even when the vehicle is off, but you may want to use a different slot for something that doesn't need 12V when the vehicle is off or even more, requires a fuse of a different rating.
It's 2021 and I'm still watching Chrisfix. damn... time really flies
Thanks for the ongoing support! Can't believe it's been 6 years since this!
Great job as always, and I always love watching these tutorials. I highly recommend installing a switch panel and relay box in your truck instead of individual switches. I did that for my truck, and I think it looks so much better than many loose switches.

I like the project but you really should use different color wires OR use tape to mark both ends of the red wire. Nothing sucks more than piling through a bevy of red wires when you're trying to troubleshoot or modify your install. Otherwise, ALL your videos are extremely well done. Touché!

I wish I could triple thumbs up this. Lol. He totally idiot proofed this. Thanks man. Otherwise HOLY SHIT
By the way, whats your real name? I think I remember in one of your videos you said Chris was a nick name your family and friends called you. Just curious.
Use star washers under your ground points. Better grounds. And match the fuse rating for what draws the energy. Get that fuse box fuse down to a 2 amp since the relay only draws millie amps.
Incorrect. Although the relay draws very little power, the fuse is for the power feed from the battery, through the relay and to the light bar.
lol when i put light bars in my grille we just grounded it and took the other wire into the cab and it plugs into the cigarette lighter, simple but it works out great, especially because i hate wiring and electronics
So you just wired it to the cigarette lighter wiring or you used a plug?
Plug, i insert a plug into the cigarette lighter which is attached right to the light bars via a long wire
Cool, and it works like a charm?
All Day EDCers works out nicely, for a person who doesnt understand wiring and electronics well its perfect, no worrys about fuses and other stuff, just the positive wire plugging in works great
Benjamin Masters so you just wire the positive to a plug that goes into the cigarette lighter, then grounded the light bar to your frame?
Hey Chris, so with all the after market add ons relating to electrical power draw have you done a video dealing with auxilary battery power source? If so where on your channel is it located? Thanks! PS, I was watching videos you made years ago. Your voice has changed...
