- I am not a big fan of BIOS firmware updates but it must be done to run new chipsets. I got my hands on the RYZEN 5 5600X and installed it. After putting the heatsink back on I was certain it was good to go but NO DICE!
The FIX:
Of course I needed to update the BIOS.
When doing this make sure to UNPLUG GPU and UNINSTALL the RAM.
Once the BIOS is flashed the motherboard will automatically power off.
Wait at least a minute, then UNPLUG the PC and INSTALL the GPU/RAM.
Plug in the PC and start it up and it should load post.
This method should work on most motherboards with the "FLASH" bios button.
Download the BIOS update file from here:

You are an absolute legend. MSI MPG Z690 edge wifi ddr4 worked for me following these steps. Thank you so much
Bro, i dont know how to thank you, for the part that you changed the name of the file, that really updated my motherboard and now it works, i was really done trying to fix it, but it worked with you, thank you man😞💞
Worked exactly how i watched you do it. Great video man
Planning the same build thanks for the heads up, bro.
Thanks for this video. Had a situation where I couldn’t access the bios after turning on UEFI. It’s my first PC build so I’m flying blind. This video is so helpful in showing me how to reset my CMOS and now I’m going to try flashing the bios.

Brother, I cannot thank you enough for this video. I just finished a very nice build and was sure I bricked it by updating the bios from the freaking software and not the "flash" method. Lesson learned. You are the man.

Been running at 570 tomahawk for about 5 months with an RX 560 GPU. Turn it on this morning, no post. LEDs on the motherboard said VGA issue. Went bought another graphics card a MSI Rx 6500, DID NOT WORK! WTF?
Hopefully the information in this video solves the problem. Will update when problem solved. Sounds like a reasonable starting point though!
I have upgraded my Mobo and CPU to the MSI X570 and 5600x and I’m having a similar issue but none of the fixes have worked for me. I don’t get any lights on the mobo so I don’t know what else to try. I’ve also had my X570 swapped for a new one and the same issue is occuring… thanks.
What should I do if there are no light indication after I pressed the button to flash bios? And should I do every step with the working PC or i should turn it off?
Is it necessary to remove ram? My cpu cooler blocks acces so i would have to remove everything. How long did it take to flash? I don't have the wifi antenna and the red light just stays on while flashing bios.

I'm stuck trying to update my BIOS to make use of smart access memory. Initially my PC didn't want to load into the BIOS but I got around that by removing the CMOS battery and putting it back in again. When using the flash tool (I forget the name) in the BIOS it would restart my PC but I'd have a black screen upon start up and so I couldn't do it that way.
I tried the method shown in your video after removing GPU + SSD + RAM + forward pins (after seeing that in a comment for this video) but upon holding the flash button for 10 seconds, fans and lights come on for a second or 2 and then everything shuts off and the light at the back is a steady white light and not flashing.
Not sure if it's worth noting or not, but I have a ryzen 5 3600, 5700xt and obviously a x570 tomahawk. Not sure what else to do other than take out the CPU but I don't really want to and I saw you mention it wasn't necessary? Please help!
is there any chance to downgrade the bios version using this method ?
Thanks so much for your vid. I’m still having the cpu led light up and am unable to post.
1. Were there times when your computer wouldn’t restart by itself after flashing?
I’m able to get the machine the flashing white lights but it wouldn’t reboot itself.
did you ever find a solution?
Yeah I'm having this particular issue too
For me it was the power led connectors. They need to be connected because there is a setting in the bios to change it from “blinking to dual color”
My PC couldn’t get into the bios because they weren’t connected.
Weird troubleshoot, because i tried everything and only this worked lol
Hi, is there a reason why the GPU, RAM, and storage devices need to be unplugged? Also, is it okay to leave the CPU and cooler in during Flashing of the BIOS? What would be the consequence of leaving the components?
So removing the components ensures the pc won't post after initializing BIOS because the aim is to flash the BIOS immediately after startup. Hdd removal ensures the flash file won't install on the additional storage and RAM removal ensures the PC will not go beyond BIOS and start normally. You can leave the CPU and cooler installed that's fine.
Just wondering. Since you have the same board, how would I test bench my parts outside of the case? (How would i get the power on is basically what I'm asking)
Try to jump the power pins on the motherboard. Look for the JFPI front panel connectors (you can find this in the manual on page 34). Typically there are 2 pins that are connected to a switch which runs down the wire and to the power button. Take a flat head (-) screwdriver and contact the negative and positive ends of the power pins on the motherboard at the same time and this should do the trick. Also make sure to use a non static sheet or work on a surface that won't cause any static.
@@techcontrolofficial thank you 👌
Hi, i have msi b550 a pro and ryzen 5600g. Trying to update bios with usb 2.0 flash drive, formatted in fat32 mbr. Download last stable bios version from official site. But flasing wont work. First 5-10 sec the LED on the motherboard bios flashback and the LED on the flash drive flicker, then the MB starts up - the bios Flashback LED flickers and the flash drive does not - no reading is performed. Tell me what could be the problem. the process does not finish after more than an hour. only psu cables are connected to the motherboard.
I just bought a new Ryzen 5600x for my system, i have the B450 Pro carbon mobo, and my pc does boot but gives 0 display. Only “no signal” and after that it just turns black. idk what to do and idk if this will work because i already updated the bios to the newest version before i switched cpus
How if the I/O shield LED light stays on after auto restart while updating bios?
Sir I am going to built my pc with tomahawk 550b with amd 5600g do I need to update the bios ? Cause I have watched some of the video nowadays No no one is updating the bios it is just booting up directly, i am assuming they are manufacturing new b550 boards with pre-installed latest bios for 5000 series.
Hi. White light appears but is static, not flashing. The pc turned on and off but the light is still there. what should I do ?
Static indicates there is power going to the mobo did you install the ssd/RAM etc and boot up? Was the flash successful?
Hi. I followed your video exactly, removed the ram memories and put the flash drive with the update file, but I left it connected for 10 minutes and only the static white light remained. I tried turning off the computer by the power button but it wasn't working so I turned it off directly from the power supply. Since the white light wasn't flashing, I think I didn't damage the motherboard?
hello i have a problem with my mpg x570 gaming plus and ryzen 7 5800x , is my first buiild and i recently try to build it and im stuck with redled or red light in VGA i tried to update it to latest BIOS and now redlight changed to CPU.... idk what to do.. please help me
In my case a year later (pun intended), with an x570s chipset turned out to be a bad stick of ram. Even when the LEDs told me the cpu was fail to read.
my issue is turning the pc on and more times than not it boots to bios and i have to F6 to load defaults and re boot for it to load windows, so frustrating.
I’ve been trying this, but once I push the flashing button on the backside my whole MB goes on, is that’s supposed to happen?
Im assuming i have to do this again when i do a cmos batt removal?
used a 128gb stick with music on and that even worked. downloaded a few new bios revisions and got into the bios and updated it and still the pc won't post 😢 got the MSI x570 mpg gaming plus and the 5800x used the screwdriver trick and I got in bios but when I go out it still didn't post so still gonna continue my journey... but now I got the newer gpu in mail today and let's use that right now so let be hopefull
Did you find a solution?
Are you removing the components SSD/RAM then use the trick to pose on and flash. Make sure you are using the naming convention for the file name.
It was just my fault 😁 because I always used Intel CPUs and not an AMD 1. And for me it was a faulty HDD (which was my primairy with my operating system on) so i used a program to clone the drive on a SSD with my windows on and then it was fine. But i never thought you needed to do a lot of work with a AMD CPU 😁 also found out that don't mess too hard with pbo settings or curve optimizer. And also look at the infinity fabric and if you have it set at the right speed. Because if you use Ryzen master never auto overclock either it's so bad. And in AMD overclock setting don't put pbo on motherboard just advanced.
@tech control I’m having a problem with a b450m bazooka Max WiFi with a Ryzen 5 1600, the white cpu led is solid. The pc only posts after resetting cmos, It’s running on Bios E7C87AMS.140 or build date is 12/02/20. VCore is running at 1.228v.

We just received our MSI x570 Tomahawk motherboard today and it has a sticker on it saying it is 5000 series ready. Has anyone else received one or used it, I was planning to re flash the bios but I don't think I need to do it now.
I purchased mine in November 2020 and it had the sticker on it but I had to flash the BIOS. Install your CPU and see what happens whne you boot.
Hi bro. When u hit the flash button, the mobo should be at power on state with cpu installed and cpu fan running?

Yeah and it should automatically restart after BIOS update completes
How should I know it whether bios update successful or not ? I try few version but at the end no display and ez debug led no trigger any light .
You can verify the BIOS version in BIOS itself. After a successful BIOS update the motherboard will restart and boot into windows.

I would remove them, to ensure the flash process competes successfully. The idea is to get the BIOS to flash the motherboard immediately upon power on and not try to boot into any OS or other drives.
@@techcontrolofficial thanks for the reply. I took a risk it seems you can still bios flash with a cpu in that the bios hasn't been patched for as the flash bios is working before it posts. AWESOME! That's great to hear and thanks for the update! It's mostly a practice with some people to remove all the components just in case
I'm having a real hard time believing that this could be the problem when I flash my BIOS as soon as I bought my motherboard
I’ve fixed it liked that but once i shut it down and turn on the pc have that problem again
Hi, I'm about to build a new pc with a x570-A pro with a Ryzen 5600x, and was looking up how to update the bios, but now i'm confused because the official MSI video (which is from 2015 but it's the link i found on the BIOS download page) doesn't say you have to change the file name, so I was wondering why you did that.
I'm kind of paranoid about fucking something up since I never flashed a bios so I'd greatly appreciate some advice
Hey, so I changed the name to MSI.ROM for the mobo/kernal to read it as a bios update file. You can try without renaming the file it may work with your board. It could also be the firmware execution method and board differences as well.
@@techcontrolofficial Thanks for the clarification, I also found the mobo manual mentioning the procedure so it's all good.

So I'm doing a build for a client on a new MSI MAG b550 board and I'm getting no post with the BOOT LED stuck on. I was thinking bios update. what do you think??
What CPU is it? I found that even though the manufacturers will say the boards are compatible "out of the box" it may not be the case and a BIOS update is requires to run it.

Does everyone have that Problem? Or is it just in some cases? And is this also fixed meanwhile?🤔
Do you have to reset the CMOS every time you do this and can I flash my x570 in the case?
Anytime you want to upgrade to a newer Gen CPU you would reset the CMOS (granted the manufacturer supports the new Gen CPU) as this brings the board to a factory reset to minimize any issues with flashing and enable the compatibility Yes of course you can flash the X570 in the case. Make sure you uninstall the RAM/GPU as I did in the video. If you have any issues feel free to message me here.

@@techcontrolofficial what if it’s a new mobo just out of the box. Do you have to clear the cmos then?
Yes, I would recommend to clear the CMOS either way cause the board will have the firmware of the date of manufacture. Sometimes there can be upto a year between manufacturing and the date of purchase. .
How long did you wait for the bois update

Hey does it completely shut off once it’s done updating bios mine shut down and restarted again
Yes that's normal and part of the process. Once BIOS flashes successfully the motherboard will restart to apply new firmware.
@@techcontrolofficial
Just need a clarification since this is along the line of this question.
The bios reset, so it shut off and came back on. Will it completely shut off after this or do I have to shut the power myself?
The video has you saying it restarts and then you put text in the video saying it will power off and wait 1 minute to reinstall gpu etc.
I'm not sure if that's the same as the restart, or it shuts off again on its own after it restarts. A bit of clarification please and thank you. This video has been very helpful
The motherboard will automatically restart. It may appear as if it turned off completely but its actually a restart, so nothing is required from your end to manually power off, that is until you verify the BIOS version and power off to reinstall the components.
My update isnt ending, how long did yours take?
It took 2 attempts to get mine up and running. The actual update should not take more than 10 minutes max.
I can boot windows10 but I can not see BIOS screen. How is this possible?
I mean I have an ssd disk with windows10 installed. I plugged it in and started the computer. No signal appears on the monitor until the Windows login screen comes up.

How much ram freq does this mother board support. Coz I got 3600 mhz.
If you are referring to RAM frequency then With A-XMP OC MODE it can do upto 4600. You shouldn't have a problem with 3600. Make sure to enable XMP profile under RAM profile you can choose either profile 1 or 2. And you can download gpu z to verify the frequency.
