I don't even think I've tapped into the full potential of this chip because I didn't want to risk my ram overclock becoming unstable via CPU overclock so I enabled PBO auto and called it a day. I'm upgrading to gen 4 in a couple months so now I'm starting to see how much more performance I can get. So far I've got 3 cores stable at a locked 5.2ghz, and the rest are just doing whatever PBO tells them to. From my research (just ordered one to upgrade from my 2600) undervolting can get much better performance gains/FPS stability due to the headroom allowed by lower temps under boost, meaning longer periods of boost and higher boost? Got the 5800x, its in the post. Managed to get it within 10 mins of going live after which they were out of stock. Will go nicely in my rtx 3080 new build, huge leap for me coming from a i5 4690k, gtx 960!
Something important to note. Often, especially on AMD motherboards the XMP settings will be called D.O.C.P. which without getting into it, is more or less the same thing. I personally had a real head scratcher on this while looking for the XMP profile of my ram rated for 3600Mhz which came out of the box running at 2666Mhz. Otherwise great video with good pacing, a nice narrated checklist if you will.
Gonna be a tough couple of days waiting lol. I bought from Overclockers, basically seconds after orders went live so I'm cautiously optimistic, but they've disappointed me before by not updating their website in time to indicate they overcommitted on stock. It says "preorder" now so they've definitely committed all stock they have, I'm fairly sure I made it in the first wave but I'll know next week at the latest lol. At the very least I expect demand for these is going to be lower than Ampere, and unlike NVIDIA AMD can actually manufacture these things.
1: If needed, do a bios update. 2: Download drivers and install. 3: OC your RAM to the point that listed on the RAM (in other words if its 3600, set it to 3600 instead of 2133) 4: Open a beer and just enjoy the moment...overclocking isn't necessary, unless you work with those enormous workload files, you won't notice anyway, less looking for the edge is also less trying to balance on it in the long run. 5: Open another beer and start your favorite game. I by no means say that opening a beer is something that MUST be done, if you prefer Whiskey or Rum just to name something, by all means pour one of those and enjoy.

It's really not that big a deal anymore. If you want to understand: you can increase the voltage to get more performance, but more voltage means more temperature. As long as you don't go over the everyday-use voltages most fellow overclockers recommend, you'll be fine. Besides, if things get too hot your system does an emergency-shutdown.
Just be smart about it. I ran my 2600k @4.7 ghz for years with no issues, but I spent a long time getting the oc just right. It was also a MASSIVE improvement in performance.
Dude. You saved my life. I had no idea about bios issues. Watched your video this morning and picked up the ryzen this afternoon. low and behold had an error code on my motherboard saying Od. looked it up and it said reserved for future errors. Decided to try your bios install and it worked. Thank you. Seriously.

Yeah pretty much all 5x0 boards support that and alot of 4x0 boards have it and my old ASUS Crosshair 370 supported it. Maybe required if you are a new user with Ryzen 5000 and the board does not support it out of the box.
Hello Gamer Meld, thank you for great video , so I have the 5000 series AMD CPU with ASUS X570 board? Do I need to ask AMD to get the BIOS install? Or I can't update it until I get a GPU?
Help! I got a recently purchased asrock x570 Taichi and an 5950x this morning. Do I do the bios update without the cpu in socket or is it ok to install the 5950x and then do the bios update? I don't have a 3000 series to do the update.
i configured my ryzen 5 3600 in the bios set to performance/optimal mode instead of normal mode in ez tuning. this cured the bluescreens i was experiencing after making my first build
It would seem that my decision to switch from an i5 6500 to a Ryzen 2600 was a good one considering that AMD was keeping AM4 support for two more generations.
Got my Ryzen 5 5600X sitting in my room, just waiting for whenever my GPU eventually arrives. Upgrading from an fx 8320, so it should make quite the difference! Also quite sure my board has the BIOS Flash option (despite not being mentioned in Gamer Meld's list), though I'm a bit uncertain how to actually do it. Do I just... connect the MOBO to the (plugged in) PSU (I'm assuming via the CPU power connector, even if there isn't a CPU installed at the time), insert the thumb drive into the correct port, and then press the BIOS Flash button...?
MicroCenter seems to be getting regular shipments of cpus and graphics cards. I picked up a 5600X yesterday. I could have gotten a 6800XT, as well, but I refuse to pay $969usd for an overpriced $680usd graphics cards. Smart Access Memory and Rage Mode will have to wait a while longer but I suggest heading to one if there is one near you.
new to ryzen, if you start disabling cores can you find the specific order in which the cores speeds are capable and then set them in order for a larger tiered core boost list??
Bought my 5800x 3 minutes after launch! I hope that the 6900x will be in stock 😅 I already thought of buying the 6800x just in case to a new gpu xD (i currently have a gtx 970 which is slow these days :/)
I've got AMD Ryzen High Performance plan aswell, it lists under "preferred plans". You know which is better? Obviously high perf sounds better but not sure if it actually is better...
got mine some days ago. (5600X) upgraded from 3600XT, and for my workload its an huge upgrade. anyways, bios have alot of issues. most boards wont turbo boost so you have to dial in numbers your self and lock cpu at full speed 24-7. cpu might be for sale, but bioses are not even done yet. lol...
boost clock work's well all by it's self just set the xmp mem clock if their are two xmp settings listed set the second one for amd and you're good to go hope it helps.
Curious as well. I just finished my 5900x build and the idle temps seem to be 40-55 degrees and while gaming/with a decent load it’s hitting 65-75degrees. Apparently it’s a common issue with the 5000 series running hot as they draw power to run tasks. Just wondering if anyone has found a way to cool it down some more. I have a kraken z73 aio installed as well as 6 intake and 6 fans in push/pull on the radiator
I installed Steam....and Origin, and HW monitor, Furmark, CPU Z, GPU Z.....after updating all drivers, checking device manager, and cleared out Windows updates. Patched Windows to the most up to date version H something! I updated the BIOS without the CPU installed, at least then I could tell the motherboard and PSU worked beforehand and did not blow up....
I disagree with the windows power plan: on the recommended settings i only got ~23k points in cinebench 23. With the power plan set to maximum performance, i got ~28k points.
Will have to wait for my build until new stock is in. So far figuring out all the other componenten, since it'll be a completly new system after being pcless for more than 1 year
its very simple if you guys want one, dont pay with your card, pay with mobil pay, that way you dont reserve money at the shop, allso they got your money upfront so they will most likely send you one right away then they get home.
The truth is that the 5800x tends to burn like hellfire. It easily reaches 90 degrees Celsius even watercooled if you pick a bad one in the cpu lottery. I have read many many complaints about that and my own 5800x is no exception.

My thermals are fine across the board. I'm blessed lol
1. Buy one. You can't 2. Buy a Intel CPU instead. 3. Try to buy 10900K because AMD cpu's are sold out="Due to recent increase volume of orders, this seller may take 4 days to process your order." -Newegg 4. Rage.

Otherwise great video with good pacing, a nice narrated checklist if you will.

the Ryzen 5 5600X stayed in stock for almost 45 mins! A record for 2020 I think.

3: OC your RAM to the point that listed on the RAM (in other words if its 3600, set it to 3600 instead of 2133)
4: Open a beer and just enjoy the moment...overclocking isn't necessary, unless you work with those enormous workload files, you won't notice anyway, less looking for the edge is also less trying to balance on it in the long run.
5: Open another beer and start your favorite game.
I by no means say that opening a beer is something that MUST be done, if you prefer Whiskey or Rum just to name something, by all means pour one of those and enjoy.
In some games oc is needed to not have stutters like BF5

overclocking always sounds so risky, i feel like that guy that explodes his gear after just saving for it XD
Just dont over volt like a madman and you'll be ok.
Not worth it. You just raise temps and use more power For barely any improvement.
@@lynnmckenney1987 Nice OC! And yeah back in those days overclocks would get you a lot more performance improvement than now, or so they say.
Dude. You saved my life. I had no idea about bios issues. Would have been useful to mention that many motherboards support BIOS flashing without CPUs installed.
Yeah pretty much all 5x0 boards support that and alot of 4x0 boards have it and my old ASUS Crosshair 370 supported it. Maybe required if you are a new user with Ryzen 5000 and the board does not support it out of the box.

I'm buying the tomahawk x570 with a ryzen 9 5950x. Should I update the bios before use?
The truth is that the 5800x tends to burn like hellfire. It easily reaches 90 degrees Celsius even watercooled if you pick a bad one in the cpu lottery. I have read many many complaints about that and my own 5800x is no exception.
Mine doesn't. So for me starting with memory...
I have my ram running at 4000mhz so infinity fabric is set to 2000mhz.
Thankfully I got an amazing kit that was rated for 3400 mhz CL18-18-20-38 2T but with lots of tweaking and testing I managed to get it to 4000mhz CL14-14-14-34 1T
I'm pretty sure I can get at least 1 more core to lock to 5.2ghz. that's on a 360mm aio and my temps stay around 80 degrees under load while the loop is heat soaked AND I also have extra power going to the chip, no undervolted CPU here, in fact I've got an extra 4 pin running to the motherboard. My thermals are fine across the board.
I'm blessed lol
