I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! I've been trying to update the bios on my MSI B450-A Pro Max for the paste 8 hours. Other videos on RUclips said to rename the file to MSI.rom but not to change file type. I looked at your vide and a bell went off when you said to change the file type to rom. Tired that and now the little white LED light is flashing happily as the bios is now updating. Thanks, you don't know how much trouble you saved me. Again a million thanks.

I'm so thankful that I ran into this video. I was upgrading my CPU on MSI B450 from Ryzen 1600 to Ryzen 5900x and for some reason the M-Flash wasn't recognizing any (unpacked) BIOS files on the USB drive. I had no idea about a dedicated USB port + flash button method but it worked like a charm the first time and the new CPU started working right away. Huge thank you.

Great video!! I updated from an i7 7700 to i9 10900 (which required a new mobo & I went from ASUS to MSI) a while ago & was sketchy about updating the bios but after stumbling across this video I bit the bullet & updated the bios tonight & easy breezy!! Just remember to re-enable OC for the CPU & XMP for the ram. Also note that it defaults back to UEFI so if you were using CSM/legacy previously you have to change that back or Windows won't boot.

You won a fan boy, if i put my experience here it will help someone, cause i had to go through many video’s and post’s to find the solution… I installed msi centre on my new rig that has a msi b550 tomahawk. I got the option to update bios that I gladly did without understanding it fully as i had a Asus rig before this and I had done a bios update on Asus rig many times. My PC got stuck during the bios update process and started displaying the red light on the motherboard. So every video that I went through was asking to disconnect all devices like proc, memory, video card and peripheral’s to flash update the bios using flash button.. Yours was the only video that was very clear and provided a simple method of updating bios with everything plugged in.. I followed the same steps and got my PC back.. i got relieved now… thank you for your guidelines 👍🏽🙏🏽👏🏽

Just found your channel. (and subscribed, 03/2022.)
As a retired IT tech let me say "Thank You" for making it easy for us out here. I retired 10 years ago and technology continues to blast forward at an amazing rate. I went looking for some older thumb drives I've kept around and finally found one. Went over to my tech bench which (a coffee table near the windows for better lighting. lol) has all the boxes for the new PC i'm building. It's been 7 years since the last build. The MB is the MSI B550 Gaming Plus and the CPU I chose is a Ryzen 5 5600G. I downloaded the files and setup the flash drive went to the MB box and THEN SAW the sticker on the front that read "AMD Ryzen 5000 Desktop Ready." LOL I guess it can pay sometimes to be a little late to the party. At 61, I still get a kick out of building my own PC.

It actually went into windows login screen and then I just restarted from there and pressed del and the bios version is now the new version. Thanks for the how to good sir! Make sure you enable xmp profiles, fan settings and any oc settings if there were any prior to the flash. I did this on an Intel system and the process is the same.

In my case (Z690 Tomahawk Wifi DDR4), there was one crucial step missing from your otherwise excellent video: *Reset your BIOS to the default values before entering M-Flash*. I only had XMP enabled and some fan-curves applied, no other changes from the default settings, but I guess those were enough. Without the reset to defaults, I kept getting an eternal black screen after the "entering M-Flash Mode" message and nothing else happend.
Switched from an NTFS stick to a FAT32 ... didn't help. Only when I also reset my BIOS settings did it actually enter M-Flash Mode (and rather quickly.. if nothing happens for you for two minutes or more, the system is probably hanging). Yes, yes... resetting your BIOS before flashing should be common knowledge, but I had forgotten about that.. :D
And I can't believe how sparse and downright vague the instructions in the manual are ... they don't tell you about FAT32, they don't tell you about resetting to defaults and they don't specify which USB port to use - if there is a preference... I used the 2.0 "Flash BIOS"-one on the rear I/O panel.

Would be relevant to mention that there is a dedicated bios flash usb slot on newer boards and that flashing bios resets all settings made prior and MSI seems to be prone to need specific settings and rebooting just to be able to set m.2's as boot device.
