My wife's v70 needed a throttle body replacement. I went to XemodeX . They are remanufactured with improved design, no contact strip to wear out. I had the car flashed for peace of mind for an additional $65.00 and have no problems since then a year ago. I did the job myself and it was easy.
Hi, if the problem started right after the throttle body was worked on, check all the connections in the area. I think the 2001 s80 has something called an ETM (electronic throttle module) rather than a standard tps. They are kind of notorious for causing trouble. Unfortunately I think if it's bad, the whole throttle body needs replacing.
Other issues to check Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Engine (or even the gas pedal) symptoms: response is inconsistent, Engine does not run efficiently, Your car doesn’t accelerate over a specific limit, Your car hesitates to move when the gas pedal is pressed, Your car won’t shift up or jerks upon depressing the pedal
Jennie! I tested the wire harness for the TPS on my 1988 Volvo 740 nonturbo wagon to find that 5.0 volts was being provided on pins 1 and 3, with no voltage from pin 2. As I understand, the tps on the volvo 240 that you made a video of, only provided one pin with 5.0 volts. What may I conclude?
is it suppose to have 3 wires? i think mine have only 2.. its a wire clip attached to a black box thingy beside the throttle butterfly... can i get iw wrong? im using a nissan rb20det r32 skyline gts..
So I’m getting 0.8v then it goes up to 2.1v and it cuts the power. Got 5v in all the time. The car is almost impossible to drive right now. So is there another parameter that determines the output voltage. Got a clean throttle body and 2 different ECU. Had problems with car for 2 years now. And this might be the final problem, but I can’t find the solution. Any suggestions?
So I just had the code come up for faulty throttle control sensor, but everything checked out according to your video. Is it possible that the sensor is just dirty or something like that? Most of the time my 95 850 wagon runs fine, every so often it loses a small number of rpms for half a second and this code comes up every time.
I was just curious what kind of problem is associated with a bad throttle position sensor? Because I have a 97 Volvo 850 turbo that starts wanting to turn off when idling on the drive gear. Would greatly appreciate your help, thanks.
The following are to check about rough idle engine misfires, rough idle, vibration, possible causes: “fouled spark plug, clogged fuel injector, faulty oxygen sensor" Check: Check: alternator voltage (14.5 at start and 13.5V) inspect all wires at the alternator, starter, behind the engine bay fuse box, ground behind the left top of the engine Check PCV positive crankcase ventilation valve, replace short rubber hoses if stiff with age (noise sounds like blowing air over the hole in the bottle although a bit higher pitched may also be a alternator regulator issue How to check PCV - pull valve out from motor and listen for a hissing sound and good suction on finger (do not use rubber glove as the suction can suck plastic off the glove getting clogged in valve) Check the electronic throttle system/module ETS / ETM working (clean throttle plate) What are the symptoms of a dirty throttle body? How smoothly the engine operates. Signs indicating a problem include rough idling, jumpy or sluggish acceleration, poor fuel economy, and stalling - How to check ETM With the use of a throttle body cleaning product, the dirt and debris buildup are easily removed Check oxygen sensor working (clean) Check bad crankshaft position sensor CPS (clean) NOTE: symptoms of a failing bad crankshaft position sensor: 1. Issues Starting the Vehicle · 2. Intermittent Stalling · 3. Check Engine Light Comes On · 4. Uneven Acceleration · 5. Engine Misfires or Vibrates. How to check CPS The third method of crankshaft sensor diagnosing is the most accurate and is used at professional stations. It requires the presence of an oscilloscope and programs Check failing ignition coil Check issues with the fuel system ie delivery problem = “filtration sensor” rather than fuel pump (as the fuel pumps are robust) Check the throttle body TP sensor built in the throttle body. How to check - need a multi metre and a couple of paper clips step 1, disconnect the sensor from the cable step 2, on the back of the plug the three wires, step 3 the middle wire is the input wire and the outer two are test wires, push paper clip's into the back of between the twi wires and the casing, step 4 wiring and the housing, should look like the test wires and pushed in to between the meter to DC setting and turn car engine on to idle reading should be .59 and as car is reved up the number should increase to about 4.5 volts and then bring back down to idle the numbers should decrease as well to show that it is functioning alright. Check Mass Air Flow sensor for rough idle use CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. How to check MAF use the MAF cleaner on the MAF wires(inside MAF) and also spray it on the built in connector and the electrical spray (CRC) to spray the connector that goes onto the MAF And thats it - good luck - let us know how you went? Ah I've just noticed you question is 8 years ago - I'm tipping you have gotten help with the issue already? I cannot see you waiting with baited breath near the phone for a response...
Oh okay.. I had the problem before the cleaning however after the cleaning it stoped for a while however it started back. The check engine code said the sensor but I honestly don't know..is the module dealing with software?
I have a Volvo s80 2001 I had my throttle body clean and after cleaning I got a code saying sensor was bad. Do I have a sensor on my car or do I have to replace the whole throttle body. My car goes into limp mode and idle up by itself
I don't have a digital multi meter thingy.... :( I guess i will just replace TPS and hope that was my problem. Thanks for sharing your video though. Now I know where it is.
I performed this test and the TPS seems to be working fine since i obtain the same voltage value as you. Any advice on what else may cause my volvo to idle badly when engine is warm?
I have v70 2002. Non tubro. Driving. My car 4 two miles the car stop run in.lput N. Trurn the key.again strats again put too D.its happen when i cut down in traffic or red light.. What can it be?

Yes, I've heard that the PCV system can get clogged up and cause issues.

When backprobing and testing with them meter, do you turn the ignition on or leave it off?
It's hard to say without actually seeing the car, but it's likely the throttle body / etm.
It could be a few things. Vacuum leak, o2 sensor are the first things to come to mind.
Thank you so much for the great video...It really helped explain the problem.

My Volvo s70 is weird. I cannot seem to find the sensor, itself. I need to replace it lol but Ihave no idea where it is xS
Advice on how to get 02 s60 tps regrammed when nobody has the equipment here to do it(no dealerships here)

1999 & 2000 models use drive by wire; no TPS like this one and is supplied in an internal unit on the Magnetti Marelli throttle body

Sorry if this sounds stupid, I just don't want to get zapped...
Do you first disconnect the neg. terminal on the car battery?
i guess you died, since you havent come back to say you didnt get zapped. RIP.

How about a video for cleaning a maf sensor on a 1998 s70 volvo glt. Should I disconnect the neg battery cable?
Awesome video, thanks!
Glad to help thanks.

Engine off, ignition on.
Do you believe if I changed my PCV system it would help the problem? Or what sort of vaccum leak would cause such a problem?
is it pretty much the same for all three wire tps ?
Good video, my sensor is 3 wires in a triangle shaped plug. How do you tell which is input and which are the outputs?
the middle is the input the two outer are the outputs - usually

+Jacqueline Derrick I hope you get it sorted out, just be careful "throwing parts" at a problem. I have wasted a lot of money that way :P
+Jacqueline Derrick - Harbor Freight has coupons for a free digital multi meter, and believe you don't have to buy anything. They are in most states.
+Jennies Garage if it's not throwing a code is the tps alright?

Trouble shooting 92 volvo 25E glt

In my case it idles fine and this only seems to happen after 1-the car has been running a while and 2-between 2000 and 3000rpm
Is the check engine light on? If it is, that could give you some insight to the problem.
Great video thank you.
Good video..makes sense to me. Gonna test mine now...
