The best is to replace magnets, but i couldn't find stock magnets suitable. The method I use, is to clean loose magnet particles and make an epoxy coating above instead of aluminum.
Hi, I have recently bought a 1999 C70 T5 with the original etm. It has no warning lights on. The engine idles perfectly and revs nicely. However it doesn't appear to rev past about 4000 - 4200 rpm. I strongly suspect a boost leak, or solenoid valve issue, but just wondered has this ever been a symptom of a failing etm? Cheers!
You don't need to check the throttle if it works, but if you have some issues with it, one of them might be similar to those described in the video. If ground is not connected to the body you will not see such defect when testing on the bench, but you will have problems when installed in the car,
@@peteroxx programming will not solve. Fluctuations appear if ETM is dirty and doesn't move freely sometimes, but most probably ETM angle sensors are worn out already and must be replaced.
I just installed a new ETM and the car still dont work and i got the ETS light. do i need to program the new ETM? i bought the same ETM as the one before but not new. Car barely starts and runs very badly when it does
If sw versions doesnt match, you have to reprogram it. By the numbers on the ETM sticker you cant determine what software inside. You have to readout version numbers from your original ETM and compare with a new one, and if they doesnt match - reprogram
When I start my car, I hear the module working (opening and closing). sometimes when i drive 120km (on hot days) the car goes back to neutral and even if I press the gas pedal it won't go. The only solution is; I have to turn the ignition off and on again, and then it works sometimes. Do you have some kind of solution? Volvo s60, 2.4L 2002 140hp no turbo
You have to check DTC codes. You should have faults related to ETM. Similar problems appear because of defective control unit inside ETM. There are 2 electronic boards inside wired together with small wire jumpers. Usually fault is with cracked jumpers at the welding point on board. Generally, ETM control unit must be repaired.
I replaced the tps on my glt 99 and now, when it's hot it doing some weird thing. Will it be the magnet that tuch the casing when hot or something else?
I think you have a defect in internal control unit. Usually they have a similar defects when hot. There are 2 ceramic boards connected with small aluminium wires, and those wires are cracked at the welding points on board.
Hello there! You seem to know these ETM well. Maybe you can give me some advice for mine... I have a 2000 non turbo S70 with something between 306 000 and 450 000kms. Yeah, the ABS module was faulty, me and my dad fixed it, it was the common problem with the broke solderings. I have the car since early 2021. In the first winter that i used it (2021 to 2022), i had some issues, starting from -15 Celsius. The first time it happened, i was rolling since 15 minutes, the car was now warm. The car just stopped giving any power, it was stuck at like 5km/h and the ETS light turned on. I stopped the car, gave some taps on the ETM, struggled to restart the car, but it was ok until i arrived very close to home, around 10-15 minutes later. Same symptom happened. The day after, i tried to start it, but it refused and the ETS light was still on. I cleaned the ETM, which was actually dirty. Also disconnected the battery for a long time. The car started as if nothing happened. A week later, i was going to work, the car was warm and i rolled like 15 minutes. ETS light turned on. I had some kind of control on my RPMs, but the car stalled and was idling very poorly. From that moment, it has been hard to start and to keep idling right for few days. Winter became warmer and i was fine. In spring, summer and automn, everything goes perfectly. Now i had the same symptoms lately, but it was actually warmer than last year when it did some freaky stuff. I have my ETM in hand, i prepared it to receive a contactless TPS kit and inspected it the best i could. So far the wiring is fine, the green goo over the contacts was intact until i removed it, seals seemed fine. The contacts on the orange plastic film in the ETS was not worn out like they seem to be quite often. Is there a problem you know that is related to weather especially? The car is stock, automatic, with the oem air filter too. I lack the tube that goes to the exhaust manifold's metal sheet, though. Can it be just that?
Thanks for so detailed story. These ETM's usually have a 2 problems: one is worn angle sensors, second is problems with internal control unit. As you wrote sensors doesn't look bad yet, but sometimes they doesn't work already as supposed to even if not worn totally. So changing them to contactless sensor is a welcome. Problems related to the temperature exists, but behavior is different from yours. The main problem which is related to temperature is internal control unit. Usually it work while cold and problems appear when heating up. Its more likely that problems are somewhere else then ETM.
@@zelemarelectronics Thank you for your opinion! I intend to look at the pedal and wiring soon. If nothing is found, i will take a look inside the "brain" of the TB. In fact, my problems all occured in COLD weather, but the car did warm up before the problem happening, so... i will go further with visual inspection. Thanks again! :)
Здравствуйте! Подскажите пожалуйста. Если я поставлю ETM с другой машины с такого же года и модели, нужно ли перепрограммировать ? Или просто поставил и завел?
There are a lot of different versions and if you are lucky, it will work from another vehicle without reprogramming. Even for the identical model/year vehicle ETM software versions might be different.
@@zelemarelectronicsyou're right. What I know those Magnetti Marelli throttle with yellow label can be replaced without reprogramming only with those with same numbers.
Numbers on ETM sticker doesn't matter. Even with the same numbers, software can be different. Yellow sticker ETM's are replacement units and usually are newer that ETMs with white stickers. White sticker ETM's were originally placed in car from factory, yellow label - replacement units. Reprogramming might be needed regardless of sticker color if versions will not match.

Why is it important if the throttle works?? Is there a risk that ground is in contact by accident when mounted?

@@zelemarelectronics a mechanic says ETM needs to be zeroed out.
In the Volvo ETM tool video why is TPS sensor angle different than actual angle?
TPS sensor angle is absolute sensor position value. Actual angle, as i understand is a relative value and is based on actual etm plate position.
