To everyone asking if you need to reprogramme the ETM the answer is no. Not if you are fixing the one already installed on the car. I just did the job myself and it took me about 2 hours plus time for the silicone to set when resealing the unit. I am a trained mechanic but this job is very achievable for the novice if they have basic spanner and soldering skills. oh and the kind people at Volvo have routed the wire for the module behind the starter motor so the starter needs to be removed. Thanks for the video!
Exactly. Just remember to disconnect and take off ETM from car when BATT is disconnected for a while. Many people wrote that removing ETM with connected BATT resulted in broken software pairing between ECU and ETM. The car will not run if you do so - and need reprogramming ETM with ECU.
@@dso1115 Just for the record I did not disconnect the battery and had no issue but it can't hurt it may be different for other models so Ill bear that in mind the next time.
Trying to get the wire out from behind the starter is an absolute nightmare. I ended up just doing the whole procedure without fully removing the module because I couldn’t be arsed to get the wire out.
@@peterf557 Yeah you have to remove the starter, which in itself isn't too bad. I rerouted the wire afterwards. Behind the starter is a stupid idea Volvo engineers had a brain fart that day!

AWESOME Video! thank you much for the detailed work. I've been looking for this video for a long time, cause I had seen those magnetic sensors before, but had never seen anyone install/use them successfully. Thanks again!
Hi Adi654. Tom Copland here your video is just fine, I bought A proper diagnostic computer to find out what my limp mode was? And it turned out to be the throttle body electronics. So I will order a repair kit as of Monday, and I will watch what you do a couple of times to get it into my head. Thanks.
I just did this repair, had code 9150 but car did run fine. After the repair I get 914F and has no throttle response. Soldered the 3 pins and the cable to opposite side pin nr 2. Any ideas?
halo! thanks for video! is there need to maybe make correct the positioning for the sensor, or does it have already right voltages? I read in forums, that there is need to check output from sensor, is it right at open, and close throttle positions. Thanks.

wire is coming directly from the new sensor(it comes like this new) and you solder it to the second pin on the left side. on the right you have to solder the pins together as they touch to ensure proper conecction. If you like the movie consider buying the sensor from me ! thanks a lot for watching!

you solder connections to their respective pins on the ETM side. when you attach the new sensor the pins will touch pins on the ETM side and you solder they to ensure trouble free running. for test fitting should work fine without soldering if that makes sense. So pin 1 is soldered to pin 1 on ETM side and pin 2 to 2 then 3 to 3. hope it helps.
