real talk i ADORE how this game looks
the animation is beautiful and square enix’s realistic anime style will always make me cry it’s so pretty
I actually forgot to include a segment talking about how great the talking animations are, theres so many unique animations and compared to like KH2 its insane how far theyve come
Tifa and Aeris are hideous looking. Ugliest FF girls due to... I don't know what the heck the devs were smoking.
On the other hand, I don't like FF7 girls, so I just get a chuckle out of it.
The fact I understand the opening line reference makes me feel old and I hate you for that
It’s Rawest forest, right?
@@Wood_spoon366 Its a Final Fantasy song that a Newgrounder back in the day called Legendary Frog made. Thanks to this reference I feel stupid old.
I was IMMEDIATELY sent back to the old days of Newgrounds. I listened to this song over and over again back in those days, and remember watching other Newgrounds animations like Return of Ganon, Metal Gear Awesome, and Kingdom Hearts Chronicles.
Man, how i miss those days.
Still remember the lyrics, sorta. "Final Fantasy is an RPG! Only one that I need, its the RPG for me! Final Fantasy on Playstation 2, with music by Nobuo and graphics by Wong Chu!"
Ikr? Those lyrics kept running in my head as I ran the chocobo races. Btw, how cool is that ending of Aerith hitting Sephiroth with a stick?
This is your daily reminder that HOJO is also the FUCKING CABBAGE MERCHANT!
We preserved every specimen! Every leaf of every head! AS BEAUTIFUL IN DEATH AS IN LIFE!
"NO! MY CABBAGES!"
No fucking way
that... that knowledge is cursed... I am now cursed
So that's what happened- he lost one cabbage too many, and now the darkness implanted in him shall spill out over the world...
"If it talks it's a person, if it doesn't talk it's a dog" - Wes
..wait that would make Red XIII a person not a dog
He's a lion thing anyway and lions aren't dogs so lions and mountains are added to the list of things that aren't dogs
He is a dog and associates with a terrorist cell. My god.
"Hey mountain are you a dog?"
@@timotheebrasseur6188 "Yeah man"
he calls himself a labrat dog though in remake?
When my husband and I finished the game, I told him, "Wouldn't it suck if we have to play part 3 on the PS6?" My poor husband has hope that that won't happen, lol.
It would be a poor business decision....so square will probably do it
And have to Rebuy Remake and Rebirth on PS6 to unlock bonus materias at the start of FF7 Resurection.
@@alfasilverblade bro ff7 resurrection sounds sick
@@alfasilverblade we all thought *rubey* was going to be a tough optional boss, but really it was *rebuy* all along!
I’m sorry.
@@maninblack3410 instead they recycled Gilgamesh from FF5.
Feline body that’s like a cross between a cheetah and a lion) with canine mannerisms, he howls and growls.
His paws are pretty distinctively dog paws though.
@@SeereDelixcroix his paws have large claws which don’t retract, the only feline without retractable claws that I know of is a cheetah.
@@mangasaintSemi-retractable, really. Flat-headed cats and fishing cats have them, too.
I think the in-game comments about Red XIII being a dog stems from how people don't usually have dog-sized cats following them around outside.
Y'know, willingly
Fuckin thank you! RedXIII is a feline not a friggin dog!
He's a FELINE??
Exactly! That’s like when people called Entei or Raikou dogs. They are respectively a Lion and a Sabertooth.
He looks like a dog, specifically anime Scooby doo
Meh just looks like a mutant dog
He's a dogcat. You better respect meowbark's identity
Red XIII standing on his hind legs and wearing clothes is cursed.
Years, Scott. It took YEARS, well over a DECADE to get that song out of my head. And now I can't stop hearing it in repeat again. You fiend.
When you opened with lyrics from Legendary Frog's final fantasy song, that made me feel so good. I'm not the only one who remembers.
Same! Ark & Kerrigan lives rent free in my head to this day
Quick correction: Synergy skills do not feed into the stronger synergy abilities. Spending ATB is what allows the use of synergy abilities.
Red XIII IS a canine. He is a primal species of canine ancestor, like the ancestor of the wolves who had to compete with ancient sabertoothed cats
And ended up with a mane and a tufted lion tail because of that?
@@Silverizael He has cat hardware, dog software, refers to himself as a dog twice, and all his mannerisms come from a dog, regardless of feline features the game pretty explicitly categorizes him as canine
Nanaki is opposite of a fox. Canine software on Feline hardware.
I WILL say i totally fell in love with Cait Sith this time around. Rebirth gave everyone so much more opportunity to be fleshed out in a way the OG couldn't/didn't. He was abit of a ass in OG (atleast that's how i took it) but in Rebirth he's just... *chefs kiss*
Cait Sith is everything.
He also has ginormous balls, don't ask.
He was definitely a ass in og I mean threaten to hurt Marlene before
Yup. You're from Newgrounds, all right. I'd know that song anywhere.
Wow, that opening bit was a reference I never thought I'd hear again.
He's a wolf-lion.
A lion-wolf.
A woon.
A liof.
A liolf.
A creature
a good boi
Was not expecting a Legendary Frog reference to start us off!
Me either, but damn did it make brain go brr
Holy shit he reminded me of both the ancient ass flash animation and that scene from Futurama where the Star Trek dude just reads our the lyrics to Real Slim Shady.
And he dares acuse remake of making you face your mortality.
I love how the thumbnails include the salt shaker in some way, no matter how subtle it is.
Oh wow, just noticed it now that you pointed it out.
Red XIII is ambiguously friend shaped
It's not a reimagining, it's a continuation. This Sephiroth, is from the future. The who said I will never be a memory. So he knows what is going to happen and is actively fighting against it. Aerith is his main opponent, Cloud is more of pawn for Sephiroth who needs him to remember for him to continue existing.
What has proven that this Sephiroth is "from the future" and not simply a Sephiroth with some insight to other worlds?
Also, it is a reimagining. How much of it is a reimagining like Gunstar Super Heroes, we shall see.
@@RippahRooJizah My personal theory is BS lifestream magic. The Lifestream is usually referred to as the memory of the planet. Since Sephy/ Jenova is a part of the Lifestream it may stand to reason that he has some limited form of time travel throughout the planets memories. Id rather have shitty time travel than shitty multiple worlds.
@@timmyman9677 Nah, multiple worlds is better.
I don't have this... vitriol against the multiple worlds trope, nor do I fully understand why people hate it, nor do I think what FF7 Rebirth did is inherently bad because multiple worlds are involved.
But what I can say is I think that a bad time travel story is far messier than a bad multiple worlds story. At least with multiple worlds... it's multiple worlds. Outside of some specific 'rules' it won't hurt the story much compared to the narrative trap time travel can lead to.
I figured out the reason why the beginning of the game had alot of waiting/squeeze through moments after redownloading the game. Its not fully installed yet and is actively downloading data in the background. I tried to return to a far off chapter after booting back up and was met with a progress bar
Seph didn't get as much build up bc at this point, if you're playing ff rebirth and don't know who, why, or what Seph is, then you deserve confusion. The whole game is a 4th wall break.
BTW this isn't ment to sound like a stab at ppl who don't know. It's just in gaming culture in general, if a character ends up in smash, the rule of "who dat" goes out the window lol.
@@Lanewreck I think its fair for someone to recognize Sephiroth without knowing the context of who he is or his whole deal. However, the remake series also assumes you have played the original game or have some sort of knowledge of it so I still think how they treat him in these games is still alright for the most part.
This is the most retarded, arrogant take I've ever seen. What?
@koifish835 yeah I can see what you mean too.
It’s a whole 4th wall break? If that’s the case, then I would expect it to be like Undertale or Doki Doki Literature Club. I guess it’s breaking it in a way that I’m not used to. I usually sense a 4th wall break when it happens.
11:16 this was exactly my problem with the climbing. Not the yellow paint, but the goddamn use of these ledges, that just feel like they are there because a lather wouldn't have made sense.
Just make it a diffrent looking wall or idw moss that you can freely climb up on. OoT allowed you to do that, it shouldn't be a problem on the PS5.
0:06 if that's the case you'll definitely love the yakuza series
Funny enough, I was already thinking of Infinite Wealth the moment the Segways appeared on screen
Speaking about sales not meeting expectations, it's ridiculous that sony considers the ps5 "in the later half of it's lifespan" due to poor sales, forgetting that their was a chip shortage due to both covid shutting down most factories responsible for making them, and crypto morons buying up what was left, resulting in a limit of how many ps5s were even available to be bought which got screwed even further by scalpers buying up the limited supply of ps5s, reducing the sales for ps5 games cause no one wanted to pay triple the price of the console to play a game from a console in its infancy.
glad we all hate the moogle quests.
I mean… as a 100% player, I liked ‘em. A short minigame that’s genuinely different than everything else on the map, that rewarded you for all those moogle medals with rare stuff.
Better than wandering around for awhile, to figure out how to get where you already are but *higher*, to fight the same monsters… with *gold* hides! Repeat 5x per area to unlock even more fights in the Chad Simulator, which then, finally, dole out one piece of materia. I mean… oof.
Funnily enough I'm not entirely sure he hates the moogle quests but am pretty sure, from the one stream I caught, that he hates the moogle *design* in this game. And I overall agree given those goddamn teeth.
@@ShePudding Yeah, the moogle minigame was fine, even kinda fun.
@@MusicoftheDamned light criticism as opposed to “remake” criticism: I kinda hate the change to the world’s vibe regarding moogles. Again, this is light criticism, but if you think about the original they had a single mini game with a grossly misrepresented moogle character (compared to all previous depictions) and a single animatronic that was built based off that character.
I think there might have been more appropriately proportioned moogle characters in the mini game, idr I only played that like my first playthrough lol, but my point is: adding real moogles as opposed to what may have originally been folklore just taints the world building vibe imo.
@@maninblack3410 Yeah, now that you mention it, moogles don't really show up in the original _FF7_ for the most part, which only makes the fact that the _Rebirth_ ones are so "off-model" compared to other moogles stand out even more. Off the top of my head, moogles only show up in like three places the original _FF7_ and none of them are living ones you can interact with since it's basically the Choco & Mog summon (that I think you can miss), the Golden Saucer bots, and then technically the lower half of Cait Sith's puppeteered robot body. Huh.
I played the original when I came out, I'll be nearly 50 by the time the remake finishes.
Christ that makes me feel old
_[hears intro]_ I understood that reference.
honestly shocked you didn't mention anything about the ending...It's...ummmmmmmm...definitely something
Yup. It is. Not really the biggest fan of the multiverse direction, but that’s only because I’m sick of multiverse plots and believe that they’ve been overdone to hell at this point in mainstream media. It makes me feel more “apathetic” towards the narrative and characters.
@@Probably_JENOVA I mean, overdone compared to what? Saving the world plots? If anything multiverse plots are comparatively more novel.
@@RippahRooJizah Both plots can be boring. When a multiverse plot can be used as a cheap writing tool and used to easily remove permanence, then that’s when I find it annoying. I cannot care what happens to one or more character when multiple copies of them exist out there. I don’t care about Aerith dying and getting sad and angry at the fact that she got killed and how many times she gets killed by the big dumb scary feline that is Sephiroth since now I know that they are still multiple copies of her existing in the other timelines. In a multiverse/multiple timelines plot, death, its permanence, and its impact becomes meaningless and next to nothing. I just can’t care about anything anymore.
@@RippahRooJizah if the original plot’s premise is boring then don’t remake the game. Besides that, you do know it’s still a save the world plot right?
@@Probably_JENOVA It's not removing permanence , though, especially not in Rebirth. Or in the movie, The One, with Jet Li.
Have you seen Enter the Spiderverse? In it, Peter Parker (the one Miles knows) is killed. Is his death negated by the existence of the older, out of shape Peter Parker? Not in the slightest. A Peter Parker died, and was a pivotal point in Miles life to see him die. That world lost their Spider-Man and would get a different one.
What you are saying would make more sense if, in FF7Reb, the multiple timelines haven't already lived and died, and that the different timelines had different circumstance for different characters, still resulting in different versions of a character, and more importantly are not the versions of the character that the game deems the main character. Also the stakes include Sephiroth trying to eliminate the alternate dimensions as well.
Project Moon sleeper agents, assemble.
Can’t wait for Lobotomy Corporation content
I just finished this game last night. I cried so much with the trials and ending. I haven’t invested so many hours on a video game in forever. This is in my top 5 favorite games for sure.
Another sobering thought: The Final Part will probably come out on the PS6
Honestly in a well-explored world like FF VII, yellow paint on handholds feels like it can make sense if a hiking guide or someone came through in the past to mark viable paths for future climbers.
Red howls in a side quest. Hence Red is a dog.
Also, he does not have retractable claws, which is only something felines have, with the exception to that being cheetahs
Was the flying Cloud footage from Vinny's stream?
Interesting is how you call food disgusting without upsetting the cook.
Man, this makes me want to see a side of salt of Valkyria chronicles.
"Yuffie is annoying"
Chadley: Am I a construct to you?
Chadley I didn't find annoying 95% of the time.
Leave my boy Chadley alone!
The heart and soul of this game is in the characters. For the most part they all have so much personality.
By the time the remake is complete, they can start to work on the re-remake of the remake.
Probably upscaled versions of the ps4 and ps5 games, on the ps6 sold as a collection
That’s Square Enix for ya. At least it’s not the 13-year gap between Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3, or however long we’ll have to wait for KH4.
Oh god, why? Why not just let it end and rest?
@@Probably_JENOVAYou say that like capitalism lets things die instead of trying to exploit them for money as long as possible, even in instances where a sequel with the IP would ruin the narrative. So, you, money (as always).
@@MusicoftheDamned Yes, I’m aware that so as long as something is financially successful and has a place in pop culture, it’s likely that it will be endlessly milked for more money, regardless of quality. Like how that’s the case with FF7.
this video literally summed up everything i feel so so WELL!!!
Nondescript mammal aside, a big red lion-thing that can talk and has a dangerous tail? We call those manticores.
Love the Legendary Frog reference at the begining of the video! ...Now I gotta watch that again.
Red is obviously a talking dog best friend.
Final Fantasy 7 remake is the first RPG and Final Fantasy game I completed.
Yo new ScottFalco videooooo
this square enix saw how attack on titan was released and thought they were cookiing
Sword fighter cc is adorable. Always love the fanart at the end of the videos!
Yeah, speaking of exclusivity being a bad idea, I still haven't gotten around to playing Part 1. The ultra-long wait before it got to Steam killed its momentum for me, and at this point I may just wait until the trilogy is completed before bothering with it. Hell, for that matter, I'm not even that enthused about FF16.
Meanwhile, you've got Sega increasingly embracing global cross-platform same-day releases, and seeing big success off of it - like LAD Infinite Wealth being the fastest-selling Like A Dragon game by a wide margin. They even seem seem to be leaning on Atlus to dial back all the console exclusives. Maybe Squeenix could learn something from them.
Sega isn't even remotely original in that. Sad that Squeenix don't get it.
Yuffie was one of my fav in the OG just for the way she just enters the party because why not lol
And in Intermission and Rebirth she became my fav character she’s just so goofy I love her
within the first few seconds "I GET THAT REFERANCE"
Legendary Frog reference right out of the gate? Hot damn. Talk about a blast from the past.
The end to the video recap is absolutely true. I have no desire to get a PS5 and have not played the remake at all because my friends have already beaten and spoiled the heck out of it.
I can't wait for Part 3 of Rebuild of Final Fantasy 7
I’m waiting for PC but goddamn this game looks so good. The MUSIC in this game sounds even more *godly* from Remake
You make a great point about exclusivity and yeeeears of waiting killing the hype, but I also think that there’s an element of novelty to all this that has faded since Remake came out, and people just aren’t as interested anymore. Now that there’s no mystery surrounding the fact that this trilogy is a sequel, I find myself wishing it was just an actual remake instead, because none of the new stuff they’re doing with the story is anywhere near as good as OG FF7.
From what I can tell the game is selling pretty well and I know I personally see a ton of people playing and talking about it so I don't know where you got the impression people aren't interested anymore? I do agree that the game should have come to other platforms at launch though the game would look so great on PC.
@@koifish835really? A couple weeks back square released an interview talking about how the game didn't reach their projected sales and did worse than Remake or something.
@@infinitezion2029game sales for their own games never reach their expectations
And Remake/Rebirth are saddled with the unfortunate task of having to work in all of the FF7 Compilation material.
But that's the only pass it gets, because this art style direction and the awful, taking-turns, static, melodramatic dialogue are all from two decades ago and they aged like milk.
I know all my hype died waiting for exclusivity to end. FF16 looks like the funnest FF to me in years but it's not on PC. The FF7 remakes went from "oh man I can't wait to get it on PC" to "eh I can wait for a trilogy pack on steam" in the SLOW time it's been taking to get out. This even happened with the PS5 and scalpers. There's was a point I was thinking actually getting one seems like a fun idea if you could actually go to a store and buy one. But now I'm so used to waiting consoles don't matter and I can just catch up on the later released PC versions. Heck with my Steam deck I can play all those delayed releases on the go now and I've sure there will be a deck 2 by the time I have to worry about FF7 trilogy.
Guh, Ha! Ugk! That definitely sums every confrontation between cloud and sephy doesn't it?
A Legendary Frog reference? Right off the bat? In 2024?
Frog didnt make the song, its a OCRemix he used for the video.
poor Zack, let's bring him back and tell him Aerith "LIKES" Cloud 😲😲😲
That reference to that old Newgrounds animation at the beginning made me turn into a pile of dust from how old it made me feel.
One thing I hate about this remake is not the remake itself but the after effects for the gaming industry. People now think that remakes have to change everything about the games from the story to the gameplay. people can no longer tell the difference between remakes and remasters
I mean, it's a remake. Nothing about the term says that the game can't be much different from the original.
Granted, this game didn't change that much of the story in the grand scheme of things
@@RippahRooJizah Like I said, I have nothing against the game itself. Watch paper mario the thousand-year door there are still people who think it's a remaster. It's just annoying that there is so much confusion from just 1 game
2028? Why are we repeating the KH 3 thing? D;
At least with KH we got a buncha games in between. With this, we got....a mobile gacha game?
@bluecanine3374 Between KH2 and 3 there were a bunch of games, but between 3 and now it's just been Melody of Memory and one mobile game.
@@bluecanine3374 don’t forget the battle royale that was canned after just a year!
I think the yellow paint is in areas commonly traveled in by other people, so some npc might have painted those to mark routes for other climbers
I’m glad someone made a video mirroring a lot of my thoughts on the game. I feel like recently all I’ve been seeing online is hate for it
There are crafting exclusive items, but to get then you need to explore the regions. So it's worthit.
So this games story is literally the unused concept of RARE's Banjo Kazooie remake for Xbox/360. The idea being that it would start out as a 1:1 remake then get further wallbreaky and inception like the deeper you go with more and more changes to levels and enemies until SURPRISE! Gruntilda/RARE devs revealed its all different!
7:11 I'm pretty sure chadly had a crush on cloud when he crossdressed
Thank you for the video.
I also thought it was a dog at first, I guess it's because you don't expect feline to behave like that
5:13 Well yeah. You don't get the PHS until you leave Midgar in the original, so the party thing makes sense.
Remember using the buster sword will cause wear, tear and rust.
IMAGINE DROPPING A ROBO CHOCOBO LEGENDARY FROG REFERENCE
Holy crap that's a blast from the past.
Can’t wait for the Lob Corp stream
Old huh. I will either be 26 or 27 when the final part comes out
Wow that ending line was too real.
I like how the remake trilogy exposes you to Shinra's history. ReMake had you see the image Shinra wants the public to see, while also seeing their current projects. Then in Rebirth, you see how Shinra rose to prominence through wars with Wutai and Junon (even Rhadore from EverCrisis) the establishment of their first reactors.
I'm betting part 3 will have the player learn about Shinra in it's earliest days. How President Shinra raised his small, family-owned business into a major corporation and nation within his lifetime. It could also be an opportunity to explain the origins of President Shinra's obsession with the Promised Land. At this point, there have been multiple scenes that established characters (like Reeve) found it odd PS, despite being smart and prudent, was so reckless around finding the Promised Land despite having no clear method of finding it or even proof of its existence.
YOU REFERENCED THE LEGENDARY FROG SONG.
I WAS STARTING TO THINK I'D HALLUCINATED THAT.
I always love Final Fantasy rebirth legit too good
Red XIII is the Entei/Raikou/Suicune of FF7.
wut
God the dyne scene messed me up dude was mentally broken he had a hell of a last stand though.
I'm Really glad i wasn't the only one who held that opinion for Yuffie. And also Hardcore agree about Barrett and Dyne. That scene hits so differently in HD 3D..
Tifa in the thumbnail with her unholy thoughts.
There's a ton of content and mini games are a tiny part. Regarding the genre, only a somewhat small but very vocal group wanted a turn based remake but most people enjoyed the new hybrid action rpg combat. Lastly the term "timelines" is not the most accurrate, developers refer to them as worlds and there is still a lot of mystery around this topic even after this gigantic game.
Just a reminder that this IS still a Nomura title. Which means that there will be a part 3. As well as a redux Final edition. Lastly in the year 2028 we will get the FF7 remake remaster Ultimate edition which has all the parts. That’s the one I’m waiting for.
People thought he was a dog? Dude looks like a lion.
A SCALDING HOT TAKE AT 2:15. Yuffie has become the standout fan favorite in the fandom with Rebirth. IMO they made her SO much more endearing and cute than in OG.
Nanaki said he is a lab rat dog at the end of remake when they are surrounded by Heidegger
I dont think its KH's fault that Cloud got labeled "edgy", Im about 100% sure thats all on Advent Children and his motorcycle 😅
Nah it was KH's fault. He got that Vincent overlay since they took Vincent out mid-production and everyone retroactively thinks KH Cloud is FF7 Cloud.
Square showcased its stellar business skills by deciding to make a remake of a game split up across three 40+ hour games, each with its own AAA budget that will take 8+ years to deliver. No way the aging fanbase would get their nostolgia satisfied with the first part and lose interest in playing the follow-up knowing they will sink another 40+ hours into a story that won’t be complete for another 4 years.
Goddamnit I'll be almost 40 when the 3rd part releases.
According to a old article Red is more cat like. Orginaly it was supposed to be a dog but it became more cat like.
They have fixed it in the Remake to make it more the way they wanted too
I just hope they can stick the landing in part 3. The development team says everyone will get a happy ending. I hope that includes Sephiroth. I always felt like Hojo and Jenova where the true villains. I love the beach scene its a huge WTF moment for me 😂
Can’t wait for this game on PC
I'll still wait for it to come to Steam
Bro made a reference to old ass Newgrounds flash animation at the start 😂
Damn I'm old.
I got the 1st Remake whilst I didn't have a PS5 yet, and for soME REASON THE DLC DIDN'T EVEN DROP ON THAT!
I'm not going to repurchase the literal exact same game just for some Yuffie DLC even though I would've on the PS4
Probably want to save on some budget (different textures on top of taking advantage of what the PS5 can do, which is more than simply "better graphics") and time, not to mention perhaps avoiding more complaints about the level textures like some did for the Remake.
I only play games that are popular, I only play the games that the magazines tell me to buy
Which game robbed people of their mortal years most?- I nominate Duke Nukem Forever
I didn’t realize Rebirth and Remake were different games…
What did you think it was?
@@RippahRooJizah I kinda thought one was just some “extended” version of the other i guess? I also didn’t pay too much attention either…
