No way!!! I can't believe this was the 30 minute video you were teasing, I am so honored! Thank you so much for featuring our game :) the full release is still in active development, so stay tuned...
never heard of this romhack but I am going to have to keep an eye out now
Like I said the hack just perfectly captures what I wanna see in a mainline, plus i figured getting more eyes on it might send some talented peeps your way that can help
It's great to see the project be promoted even further! Thank you for delivering on everything that we could ever want from a new entry in the style of OoT! Like, this is the sequel I and many others have been dreaming of as kids, and we can't wait for a final release!🙏
@kentonm tell me when where to get, how to get, what i need to play, and how much the game is.
The romhack was amazing. Great work
That sudden stomp on the Minish made me JUMP, Geeze Louise!
That was low.
That minish stomp horrified me because I didn't even process what happened until Tayl asked "Did you just...?" And then I was hit like a truck when it finally hit me
I find it surprising that it would be Navi, the notorious tutorial slog of a side character, who made Links life miserable after their disappearance. But then again, they were always there for him, unlike pretty much everyone else…
Not only Navi made life miserable for kid me, it made it miserable for “kid” Link during majora’s mask
Yeah, having her around was one of the only sources of comfort for the Well, Shadow Temple portion of the game.
Y'all greatly exaggerate how intrusive Navi is. 95% of the time you can just ignore her. The most pushy she is during the first dungeon was because it was the first time players experienced a 3D space, so the devs wanted her to hold your hand a bit to get adjusted. Meanwhile Fi is SO much worse, she forces you to stop so often just to tell you there's a certain percent chance your objective is ahead, or that your wiimote batteries are running low. Now THAT is insufferable.
@@PrismOpal64 THANK YOU. Navi gets too much shit she doesn't deserve
@@PrismOpal64yeah Navi doesn’t really do much tbh

A bit of criticism since you requested it:
I really enjoyed this style of video! It's nice to see something more positive and funny and I think it would be good for you to make more videos centered around games and things that you actively enjoy or are passionate about rather than just whatever happens to be popular.
I think a good RUclipsr to take inspiration from in this regard would be Pastra. They're very horror oriented but almost everything they make a video on is something that they love or even claim to be their favorite thing ever. I think doing more positive retrospectives would be a good thing for you to do!
My favorite bits of your videos are always the humor and especially the animation. I'm not saying overload your videos with animations but sprinkling a few more in would be nice. Like for this video specifically an animation of Link getting kicked off a ledge followed by the mario maker laugh track or an animation of Link being upset that there was a missing boss fight would have been nice to see.
Of course don't overwhelm yourself, just make sure that you are enjoying what you are making and try experimenting every now and then until you get into a groove that you are satisfied with.
I second the idea of checking out Pastra. I love his art style and his video essays. He manages to show the good of viral horror games while also critiquing them!
@dragonlink2032 100% agree this was great, and I've always enjoyed Scott's thoughts and views on the things he likes. Let's me enjoy things in a way I may not have thought of or saw.
Also, commenting to help the algorithm
Since this game is going for a "your actions have consequences" type a deal i REALLY hope squishing the minish was a one time bit and not something i have to keep in mind for an entire segment. That would just be mean game design. Aside from that everything else about this rom hack looks incredible. Definitely gonna check it out once its finished.
Yeah, uh, if things like that stay in the game it's a hard skip from me. Cheap low-effort gotchas aren't interesting, engaging, or fun.
@@Spiritofpower24 The minish are used to being stepped on, there's dialogue in Minish Cap that says as much, I think... but yea um it's just a gag, like several of the other bad jokes i made in the mod lol, don't take it too seriously
@@kentonmI for one like the bit
@kentonm If stepping on the Minish WERE TO HAVE consequences, potential backlash and bitterness from players could be avoided by having the Minish give dialogue which might prompt the player to remember his existence when leaving town, as not to step on him. Maybe not something as blatant as "Don't step on me on your way out!" but rather something similar that subtley triggers the Zelda puzzle brain.
I personally like the idea of that encounter having consequences, but modding is harder than people give you credit for.
It's just a one of gag (for the demo)
24:13 *mumbles under my breathe "sure jackass"*
Glad theres other ghost stories fans
@@ScottFalcoThat series was such a trip!
Did you do both a hero and wicked route? You didn't really dive deep into differences, unless it's just the forest.
@@samurexatlas7373 go play it
It's a demo so I wouldn't be surprised if it was contained to the forest for now.
Could you imagine if the dark path was the canon one and Link's guilt for his terrible deeds is what cursed him into the Hero's Shade?
I'm with Scott on this one. I love the little animated bits in between the analysis parts
"Even if over the years I've learned a shocking number of people have never played them."
Man you have no idea how true this is. I've been writing a fully custom tabletop RPG system and decided "Hey, a playtest using a Zelda setting would be fun, and should get a lot of potential playtesters' attention!" But literally 90% of the people I've approached have been like "Uh, I mean, I know what Zelda is I guess, but I haven't really played it."
That always catches me off guard because there are some games that I consider an "everyone has probally played this once because it's so easy to access and a great game".
At least your play testers know what Zelda is
The most disarming thing is, in the last 10 years, if someone in their 20's says "Yeah I've played Zelda" they probably mean Breath of the Wild and nothing else, which is to say they probably understand the setting in that context and nothing else.
I made a DnD module and I just pre-empted it with a one-page sheet that explains the most important details of the setting. You can shorten it a lot by telling folks that it's basically a sword-and-sorcery setting. I also made a shockingly comprehensive monster manual, though I was very intentional about keeping the CR's relatively low since LoZ isn't really a setting for high-level DnD characters, thematically.
@@lightninstriker10 TBF, I like that setting too. OoT confused me enough as a little kid that it put me off, and I really only enjoyed returning to it as an adult with less stupid in my head. The surreal darkness of OoT and Majora's Mask is pretty cool, but I also genuinely love the fleshed out world with lots of RP and fanfic possibility that BotW and TotK have.
The older settings are very inspiring for more linear storytelling, the newer settings are very inspiring in terms of broader world-building. As such, for tabletop games like OP is talking about, I actually prefer the newer settings since they fit the social dynamics and tone of tabletop games.
Great video, dude! This romhack looks hella interesting

Any Scott animation is good animation. Always happy to watch anything you create!
More fun/obscure romhacks with your animations would be fun to watch!
The things I loved about this video: the editing, the gags, the mod itself, the animation and your voice
The things I didn't like about it: that it's over
Me the whole video: Ok, I feel like you're refencing something, and I don't get it, and that's not fair.

You should watch Ghost Stories

Watch out, can't have it get TOO popular or else nintendo will come with a lawsuit
Not to worry. It's made with decompiled code. Nintendo owns it just as much as you or I do.

ANIMATED BITS!

you're doing great buddy!
I find it odd that defeating the Stalfos that Kaska turned into is supposed to be the _bad_ option. You'd think releasing her from that curse would be a _good_ thing.
Okay, to Arin's defense, the design of this game's dungeon traps are exactly what the Zelda Sequelitis complained about, except the traps are entirely hidden from view, inside of the corner of walls, programmed to punish you for taking the rewards you find, instead of easily telegraphed spike pucks that control the main floor of the room.
To credit Arin's point, this game's design for traps has a case of rudely intentional , "extreme difficulty fangame design" made to inconvenience you than control space and challenge the traversal of rooms.
I hope the dev could revise the "GOTCHA!!" hostility of the traps and make them more telegraphed, like, just make the pendulum traps just traditional, slow swinging damage traps that control the pace of progressing hallways, or instead of arrow traps that spike the approach of rewards, the deathpucks or surprise enemy encounters for treasure chest rooms.
The fact that the current build punishes you by shooting with arrows just for stepping up to an item chest, makes the game look as annoying to play as it would feel.
Scott just do what you want, ive been watching you for over 7 years. If your still funny animation guy like youve always been then do what you want, take sponsors or dont, whatever pays the bills.
ALGORITHM ALGORITHM I SUPPORT YOU SCOTT!!!!!
pray nintendo dont find out about this game or nintendo will palword this good game. that jump scare i thought the guy was going to say " you good bro?" as he has his panic attack.
Personally I'm just glad to see you cover something you are interested in. My favorite content of yours are the videos going over games ive never played like this one, or when you streamed mega man. Especially the old splatoon 2 content with CC in it.
I prefer a 20 minute video of you talking about a topic you like with your sense of humor and little bits of animation here and there to "New thing with a side of salt" thats 7 minutes long and basically an animated review.
But I understand the algorithm must be followed somehow. And frankly I've been here since the overwatch days so I'm happy to see you excited about your content again.
This was a pretty neat video

*meanwhile, well past the edge by this point for what feels like a creepypasta moment*
Smh didn’t mention the music 0/10 video (my lawyer has advised me to add a /j)
Second comment to feed the algorithm. It is a hungry thing.
Feeding the algorithm with a comment, loved the video!
Do a video on the full release
Honestly, videos like this are exactly my jam. You doing a thing, and cutting in your animation where it would be comically appropriate. That's what initially got me interested in your stuff way back when with the Overwatch Side of Salts. I enjoyed you discussing your PoV on a character in the game (as I was just getting into it, I've long since stopped playing it), and cutting in with funny animations. Your speedrun animations were amazing, such as the Wind Waker / Link's Awakening... all of them really.
This kind of content is what I'm hear for. Whether it is positive or negative, I'm just after an *_HONEST_* opinion. *_THAT_* is what matters to me, Scott. Well, that and seeing someone explore games I might not know about, or have the money or initial interest in to see it in action. Helps change minds about exploring something.
24:12 Haha I got that reference.
Glad to see i'm not the only one who knows of it.
Just solve the puzzle, puzzle-solver.
Sure Jack-ass.
Aww… Link feels upset about crushing the little minish… poor guy must have so much on his psyche. When I play the final version, I’ll definitely try to avoid the lil fella. Especially since I love the minish as a race.
30 minutes of someone crying for help
Awesome vid worth the wait! I like how you do the animated bits that include the voice recordings from the stream you used for this. Loved watching that when you did it.
Can't believe we're getting Twilight Princess Gaiden before GTA 6.
A fun idea for video idea could be mod or rom hack review that you highly recommend or to show support for upcoming ones to give spot light to those devs.
I really love your video and have a ton of suggestions but first thing first, of all things I did not expect you to reference candleja-

All Hail the.Algorithm the great computer in the sky!
Hey I worked on this! Thanks for reviewing, I'm glad it's still getting some love even though we've laxed on public updates. My favourite part of the video was Gaile ❤
This video really scratch an itch I didn't knew I had.
The ratio of gameplay to animated bits is perfect IMO, we see what the game is, but with your own personal touch when required without going overboard.
Also, the subject of this one... I really want to play this game 🤤

PANR has tuned in.
Really enjoyed this one. Super interested in checking out this mod now and you highlighted it in a way thats incredibly exciting!
My one complaint is that I feel that ypu go into too much detail when covering some of these dungeons.
Zelda games are at their best when the player can solve the puzzles for for themselves, so rather than walk the viewer through each puzzle, only showcase one or two that grab your interest and leave the details for the viewer to experience.
Hope this makes sense. Wishing you the best in your push toward a more positive outlook on content! Cheers!
SIDLE SQUAD RISE UP
Excellent video! I welcome different styles, gives more people something to watch!
More animations? Less salt?
Does this mean we get a new little animated outro? Perhaps with you and C.C. jamming out just having fun instead? That'd be one heck of a lore character arc. 😉
Yo flippers giving us back the Majora's mask swimming, dope as hell.
I just wish Timezones were better so I could catch you live. Alas you always stream when I'm asleep.
Looks really good, maybe a little TOO dark and spooky for Zelda, but hey it's a fan game the devs can do whatever they want. I just hope it isn't the case that everything is just zombies and skeletons and all, because 2 of the 3 dungeons are "oh a haunted ship! Oh a haunted village!". I just hope they can keep the creepy tone without relying on all that kinda theming. The dead deku tree is a nice intermediate of what I mean, with it having a dark atmosphere but not relying on ghosts and ghouls.
I really hope it doesn’t get any more popular. I don’t want Nintendo to realize this mod exists and CD it to death.
sorry but you pretty much doomed this project by covering it. Nintendo strikes rom hacks based on exposure, and you just exposed it.
Hey man, hope everything is good well. Enjoyed the vid as usual and love the animation you have. Keep doing what you are doing pal.
Ya know what, I’d love it if Scott covered more rom hacks. This feels like a hidden gem. Can’t wait to see what else peaks this guys interest
Hey, as a fellow who also left the mitten. Moving sucks! Loved the animations and the format of explaining the demo. Mini reviews suit you.
Um Scott Falco...you do know that hero in twilight princess is NOT a link, right?
In fact most are just parallel versions al la multiverse which one game actually brought up...yes, its hyrule warriors.
Not gonna lie, I like listening to you talk about things that make you happy rather then the constant stream of negativity. Definitely make more of these!
Man I heard of this demo before, but being able to see more just make me want to go and download it before streaming the game with friends, the game look great and the slightly darker theme is nice! Also I love the whole Kokiri claymore but it really is just a sword, that was smart of the dev(s)! Eager to see it finish and see what they got cook up for us
I like this style of video more than your previous. I actually wasn't drawn in to your previous more negative style of video because that's an oversaturated space. There's a ton of people that do it already. What did stand out, is that you do little animated bits. You don't need to hire an animator because I actually like how unobtrusive your animations and little bits are.
This video was so good, I liked the edits. Especially the "Be Right Back" meme with the arrows. It also showed me a game I didn't know I wanted.
This was certainly fun to see. Didn't know much about Zelda 64 rom hacking till this video. Would certainly love to see more about the final product thanks to this video.
Never heard of this Rom before, but you sold me on it. In regards to the end section if the video, I'm more than up for halting side of salt content, since you want to make something different instead. Side of salt started off as a new segment at some point, so I'm sure whatever you make will be fantastic.
That was a good video! I would watch more of this style of content from you, especially if it's making you more motivated to continue making content. Most of the animated bits made me laugh too, especially the zombie jumpscare XD
Don't really have anything to say about the video- it just feels like good content. So, uh... here's for the engagement!
>Zelda sends Link back in time so he can have the childhood he couldn't
>This romhack has Link wasting his childhood spending 15 years looking for Navi
lol
lmao even
Im curious what other more horror focused romhacks are like because those redead junpscares are HAUNTING.
I've followed you for years scott! Back in the overwatch salt days. You're rad, I've always thought you're rad, and your videos are consistently rad, all the time. You bring soul to this platform man. I stopped playing command and conquer to put this vid up on the main monitor. I was hooked! The pacing was good, jokes were well timed. :)
Great video Scott.
I agree, I'd love to see more animated skits as I think those are really your USP - as someone that doesn't enjoy live content I'd really like to see more of your android character.
The worst part for me in this video was I feel like it exposed the content of the demo a bit too directly, and felt a bit more like a high-speed walkthrough, which I guess stems from your desire to make less opinion/review content.
Good to see you're coming out of the slump. Hope nothing but good things are in your future!
I randomly clicked this video and was pleasantly surprised. Can't wait for the full release.
I am feeding the RUclips Algorithm nyehehehe. I think this is a great little idea, and I’m glad to see you move towards things you like! The animations were wonderful, I think the styling of the video was great, the animations were fantastic and a wonderful way to splash in some colour! 💚
Your animated bits alongside a review of a cool game was great. Your humor and style is fun and endearing and I hope you can find more stuff to do content like this with. Shame how much of Indigo was demo blocked, cuz a wieldable anchor makes me happy. More of this would be great. Side of Salts have always been fun, albeit people get antsy when a internet man doesn't call their game perfect 10/10. Hopefully you can enjoy what you do and hopefully the viewers can feel that themselves and reciprocate.
Always glad to have you here, Scott! I'm not sure if the algorithm supports it, but I'm a fan of gimmick/rom-hack games. Co-ops, races, and randomizers are all really fun too!
