      Heroes have evolved since links came out. They’re still not the best in terms of consistency and like he said, a Kaiju and Raigeki is good enough to stop even my best hero boards but when you can get out plasma and dystopia, maybe even dark law, in one turn, that changes things. Ideally, heroes would have more follow through and more protection and negation but one-sided macro-cosmos, skill drain, and pop a card is nothing to scoff at first turn. Also it’s super consistent. Going second against a board with no protection or negation is also an easy win 2nd turn.

    About a year ago I picked up yugioh again with my friends because of childhood nostalgia. We started to build random decks with friend and it was fun, but once we played at locals we saw how absurd high powerlevel come new decks had. Kaiju in combination with traptrix archtype allowed me to sometimes shit all over meta decks since most ppl went for the turn 1 full lockdown plays and I just denied it them since my deck was full of denial cards and used Kaiju as the "boss" monster. I will never hate on Kaijus.

    I see some people mentioning that the only way past a Kaiju would be to add a clause that says "This card cannot be tributed". Well one idea I have is to make an archetype where the boss monsters are bigger versions of barrier statues, so that way you need the Kaiju with the right attribute before attempting to tribute them.

    In magic there was a time When every blue deck was bouncing your monsters Back to the hand over and over. they created a creature called "Thragtusk", this creature gave you LP when entering the field and spam a free token when leaving it, so bouncing it was the worst thing you could do.

      Andrés Prochnik This is why there are so few bans in MtG. Wizards at the very least keeps close tabs on the synergy during development and after the set gets released.

    • @AlluMan96
      @AlluMan96 6 лет назад +8

      +Jake Cross
      Well, that's only one of the reasons. The other, perhaps more important, is because of how competitive Magic is setup with the "Standard/Modern/Limited" model. The game doesn't need as much of a massive banlist, because every year's set of cards is meant to compete against only that year's sets. Next year's set of cards don't need to worry about balancing around Ulamog, because he'll be gone. Players won't be allowed to show up at an event with Zendikar cards anymore.
      After that? Why even bother restricting something like Vintage? That's a casual mode of play, meant for just day-to-day play between friends. Vintage banlists are incredibly jank with some bans that don't make sense in light of much worse cards that aren't banned, but this is because Wizards doesn't need to bother with it, because it isn't affecting the competitive landscape. They know that anyone just playing for fun will figure out their own list of banned cards among the friends he plays with, which is how it honestly should be.

    Oh come on, everyone knows Five-Headed Dragon is the best early boss monster in Yu-Gi-Oh! After all, he didn't have specific cards required to fuse him, ya just needed an entire hand/board full of dragons! Super easy!
    (In all seriousness, loved that silly filler episode as a kid and picked up the card at a flea market; my brother and I got into a couple extremely casual matches with our old cards a couple months ago, and I won a handful of matches by bringing out F.G.D. - that's right, it's the Japanese version - using Dragon's Mirror)

      I had a crazy Duel Links battle where I fucking polymerization'ed Five Headed using 4 monsters in my hand and 1 on my field.
      And the 4 monsters included 3 of the 2 blue eyes egg monsters so I got to add 1 blue eyes to my hand and summon 2 blue eyes monsters in the end phase.
      And the funny thing is, all that stuff wasn't even my primary objective. I just really really needed to drop a blue eyes in the grave.

    This is why I hate Kaijus. They're cool, but kill any hope of playing old decks effectively. I like the idea of boss monsters. I understand that decks can be a little linear when it comes to them, but they're so cool and it's great when you can get a deck that isn't that good to work well and summon them. Kaijus are just one of those things that the game will probably never be able to get around though.

    • @silverfangmoonhunter

      Deon Blue Kaijus are now a necessary evil because of Konami's bad game design decisions. They're an answer to boss monsters that would otherwise be nearly impossible to out (Towers type cards) but in turn their existence makes it difficult to use boss monsters that aren't even that overpowered.

    • @-Cetus-
      @-Cetus- 6 лет назад +27

      I think Kaijus are something of a necessary evil. Yes, they are very frustrating when it comes to having them used against you. However, now that they exist I think it would be a good way to have a lot of archtypes focus on recovery of resources and follow-ups, with possible legacy support that helps older archtypes manage this.

      - You basically could never attack a Nekroz board -> Valk
      - Next best thing was Extra Deck monsters, oh wait.. Unicore.
      - I guess just Special Summon a real big monste.. nope, Emptiness.
      - Well, guess there's always Raigeki.. Gungnir? Fuck you!
      Even if you got through all of that, you couldn't kill a Nekroz player cause Valk and they would do it all over again next turn. Sounds kinda strong now, hm? Oh and also, you better leave either field, graveyard or hand blank or Trish just beats the shit out of you.

    The thing i dont like about Kaijus is that they limit design space. If they ever want to make a good archetype in a post-kaiju world they have to make it do a bunch of stuff and the ability to recover after being kaiju'd. Unless they suddenly add "can't be tributed" to boss monsters they can't feasibly make another boss monster centric deck while kaijus exist.

    I got back into the game this year around March-ish (left when Nekroz were meta) and when I saw that Kaijus were a thing and the game as it stood, i was skeptical, yet i gave it a chance to convince me if its needed. As it stands, I hate them. They are way to fucking strong as a one card out to any monster, and also provide very little interaction to actually outplay and solve a situation. That said, they are almost a necessity now because we always get some stupid boss monster that it is a universal pain in the ass to out. I hate making statements like this because its a very "scrub" argument. But simply put, Konami needs to stop this excessive power creep they force in the game. Zoodiacs were actually used as an example on alot of card shops that show why too much power creep is unhealthy for a card game. I absolutely love this game, but to tell me that im shit for not being to handle a low effort interaction because I "didnt side in Mask Of Restrict" or whatever bs statement like "youre just bad because you play casual rogue tier shit" is a completely intolerant and asinine argument, which just helps Konami justify making some of these ridiculously bullshit decks, cards, mechanics, etc. Anyways thats my two cents.

    Kaijus didn't change Yugioh. Before Kaijus the aim of every player was to get their turn one field out with negation. After Kaijus the aim of every player is to get their turn one field out with negation and cross their fingers you don't have a kaiju. Dropping negators/lockdown cards turn one will always be the best way to win (until konami makes cards which activate off being negated) so everyone will always aim for this. Maxx C is a much better hand trap to stop your opponent from making uncrackable boards yet it didn't stop that strategy either.
    Kaijus, Maxx C's and foreheads are great at shutting down death boards but they're also perfect for the maker of those boards to prevent comebacks so ultimately no one has any incentive to change their strategy.
    You can argue they changed card design but naturia beast, Ophion, Ark Knight and shadoll fusion all had far greater impacts on the type of decks and monster designs which would get printed following their release.

    Honestly Kaijus are a bad response to a situation they should have never made. They really did start to let power creep accelerate at such a stupid degree towards the back end of the XYZ era, and into the pendelumn era, and some of the cards they printed just never should have been made. They then made kaijus as a way of giving everyone at least one out to any problem monster. But now they have the issue of because kaijus always exist, there's only so many resources you can be willing to put into a monster.
    Konami seemed to have either stopped giving a shit, or forgotten how to design cards well.

    I'd consider this impact a bad thing, because it ultimately has just restricted the way you can construct new decks. It's bottle-necked the design to go one way by eliminating one type of play entirely. It helps make the game feel less varied and more samey. I mean, what deck are you playing? The deck that special-summons a bunch of extra/main deck monsters in one turn, the deck that discards in order to special-summons even more bunch of monsters from your Graveyard in one turn or the deck that headlocks the opponent from doing anything *before* you special-summon a bunch of extra/main deck monsters in one turn?
    I'm being facetious of course, but that's how it feels. I like Boss-monsters. Why am I not allowed to have a deck that speaks to my interests? Of course, rigidness in design is an overarching theme of YGO, where they'd rather tack on gimmicks than try to create unique new interactions between cards, but just this idea of spreading the board being the end-point of all archetypes is the perfect example of this train of thought.

    Imagining a world where link monsters shuffle their materials into the deck instead of sending them to the GY and I think I like that world better ngl. Most link decks have enough search and consistency power anyway it wouldn't really stop them from playing the game, just keep them from doing dumb 5 negate boards. Also the fact that link monsters are functionally a send to GY trigger you can keep in your back pocket whenever you need it, it creates some really dumb combos inherently.

      This lasted for several months
      Fun fact it literally can activate it's effects turn 0 too and destroy and mill both players decks by half and fusion spam 3 times within that.

    Man... I hate kaijus, it makes playing many fun decks near impossible because your opponent can just go and kaiju over it because idk, you were dumb enough to not have Mask of Restrict turn one right? Again... if the effect was reversed. "If you control a kaiju, your can tribute an opponents monster to summon a kaiju on their side of the field" today, it's not that difficult to think to summon a kaiju on your field. At least your opponent would have a heads up or a way to oppose it, just like when they used to summon Cyber Dragon to stop Kozmo

      dude... for someone who calls me salty, calm down... maybe you don´t understand that there are other decks out there, that maybe like to play big boss monsters, because you know... the whole point of a card game is to have many different decks, but the presence of kaijus make it way harder for those type of decks to actually work, some of them can be extremely fun, I do not play super quantal but i´ve seen it and it sounds fun. I wouldn´t be here crying about master peace because there are more than one way to out a master peace, I don´t know about your dueling capabilities, but for you to say that... either you are limited to one strategy every time or you have lost a bit the sense of playing other decks, perhaps you could try a boss monster deck for once, then you maybe could change your mind, you would understand why its a bit frustrating... or you can you know... get extremely salty and stuff your choice man!

      This is the reason i think cards like utopia the lightning are great while kaijus not so much. Many boss monsters now that are made to be "untouchable" like chaos max, super quant i believe, towers, and ultimate falcon still have the weakness of battle destruction if you get over their monstrous attacks. Lightning offered a way to have a decently viable out while still giving the opponent a chance to react. Kaijus are a get out of jail free card. I dont know, they are nice in many aspects but also a huge design problem

    Kaijus are evil, but they definitely are a necessary evil. I know some people complain that Kaijus make playing a boss monster deck hard, but if a deck summons a boss monster just in terms of attack points or an effect that hurts, but doesn't prevent me from playing, then I don't bother siding in Kaijus because of the reason I feel like they're fair; they mess up the flow of your deck. First and foremost you have to actually open up a kaiju; opening up with it late sucks. Next thing is that after you open up with it, you're still giving your opponent a monster, so you still need to be able to destroy it somehow. And finally, using a Kaiju to out your opponent's boss monster means little if they could just make a recover quickly. Take Kozmos for example, when I kaijued a Dark Destroyer, my opponent would just flip call of the haunted and bring the Dark Destroyer back; now I have to deal with the Dark Destroyer and the Kaiju I just gave my opponent. To wrap up, Kaijus aren't the problem to me, it's slumber. I know it's limited now, but it was too powerful to have a board wipe AND be able to search another Kaiju to out another future board.

  • @jashelps
    @jashelps 7 лет назад +1

    I run a new dino deck and almost constantly have my ultimate conductor tyranno up. I like that I can easily get out a boss monster however boss monsters do ruin the game quite a bit if it can easily counter your opponents ways of normally dealing with them.
    This is why I like kaijus since these make me think about my move a lot since they can easily ruin everything for me. Same for ritual decks that pump out insane monsters left and right.

    • @jashelps
      @jashelps 6 лет назад +1

      Thats ultimate tyranno that can attack all monsters once. Then you have super conductor tyranno that can do 1000 damage to the opponent once per turn. These cards are 100% useless now since ultimate conductor tyranno merges all the good parts of those 2 togheter.

    • @Toomsday94
      @Toomsday94 6 лет назад

      I love that dino deck; its super fun to play, but ultimate conductor tyranno is seriously good. maybe I'm missing something, but I always have a hard time getting rid of him when I'm up against him. if he couldn't flip my monsters down during my own turn then I wouldn't have a problem with him. worst is if I actually do get him gone there is another to replace him, super easy to get out.

      lets say opponent have 2 monster with negation effect while you have 2 card to play. if you play it, you just wasting card. if you not play it, you have yourself defenseles (not to mention opponent might summon another negator). if not for kaiju-like card, player with deck capable spam multiple monster with effect immunity, quick effect negation or removal will hog all the glory for themselves. so yeah, they necessary to balance out game. but not evryone play them anyway.

    While i understand that Kaijus are just a necessary evil for the easy way meta decks can bring boss monsters in the game
    I just miss before Kaijus i could literally make a deck with just any theme even not an OP deck slap a boss monster that didnt really had a deck around it like Earthbound immortals and have 2 duels out of 10 where i could win
    Now in the current Yugioh however that fun isnt there, i cant play any non-meta deck
    i am required to have a deck that can bring a boss monster quick because if my opponent can and WILL use a kaiju to tribute any boss monster i wanted to play with then it's just not fun
    Like back then i could go agaisnt archtype decks or even meta deck and still have a very slim chance to win despite not having ''combos'' but still it was fun to play the cards i wanted, or an archtype i loved.
    Kaijus just...ruined most of Yugioh for me, and while duel links is a thing, it's not the same.

    After reading most of the comments to this video, I must say that I disagree with a lot of you guys. Yes they are necessary, and no they are not broken. Strong decks before kaijus could already make strong boards multiple turns in a row, so even if you break it once, they will still make it next turn again. What the kaiju does is letting you get rid of the biggest threat on the board to give yourself a chance to set up your own field. You pay for this by taking a straight -1, so now your own deck must be able to combo with 1 less card. Skipping all the other things, like there often being more than 1 negate on the board and so on, the kaiju is a dead card in your opening hand while going first.
    To sum it up, kaijus make deck building very interesting for both players involved in the duel.

    I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I feel like the game died after the Synchros came out. I was like well these synchros are cool and everything. Then pendulum, XYZ, and links came out and I was thinking wow this shit is wack. What happened to the more simple Yugioh? Why are the stars on this card backwards? Why does this "link" card not have any defense points? Idk I just can't quite get into it anymore kinda ruins it for me. Now the game just feels like nothing but flooding the field with cards and monster on the first two turns. There doesn't seem to be the big build up to awesome plays like there used to be. Then you have these insta win combos and the stupid amount of insanely powerful easy as hell to activate/summon cards. Anyways I know some may not like what I'm saying, but I'm just telling it how it is.
    Ps. I know there were some pretty powerful cards pre synchro and all of that but now it's just gone to insane levels. Cards that are literally making it difficult to come up with new ones without making them seem completely fodder.
    Ps's. AND WHAT THE HELL IS THIS GREEN SHIT ON SOME OF MY CARDS. IT'S YUGIOH NOT FUCKING BAKUGON!!! Sorry just a tad frustrated. I'll be on my way now.

      I quit at the beginning of pendulums but that was mainly because I didn't like the aesthetic of anything being released despite them being all that was competetive. Thankfully I finally gave magic the gathering a chance (it always felt like it was only being pushed by elitists and that things were overly complicated what with infinite card zones on the field, having to attack all at once, and other quirks) but I was surprised to find I enjoyed it just as much as Yugioh and after learning the nuances of deck building in mtg I started to like it more than I had Yugioh for most of my playtime (The exception being ghostricks).

      Mike'l o Zonda It died at Xyz, not synchro's, i personally loved synchro monsters, bieng able to set up the right monsters to make the perfect combos was cool but when Xyz hit i really thought it went downhill. Lets not get started about pendulum monsters...

    Boss monsters used to be so basic "I have over two thousand attack!" Now you get shit like "this monster can not be directly attacked, if this monster is somehow killed you can use a turn to re summon it, if your opponent does anything to this monster their whole field is destroyed"

    I miss using a boss monster that you would protect and would basically be your win condition. For instance Fire king garunix.

    This is why my friends and I play all decks pure.
    No mixing archetypes, Including the extra deck and spells/traps
    You'd be suprised at how balanced the game becomes with this restriction.

    So... Konami made a deck where you basically have to swarm to win on the meta? Never seen this before.

    The game was so much better before... The decks may not have been so consistent and powerful as today but that's exactly why the game required more brains and every decision actually mattered. Nowadays you have like 3 decks you can play or get destroyed cause Konami can't balance the game to save their lives.

    Little thought experiment: How would the game of Yugioh change if Normal summons could be used to summon any Normal monster regardless of level (like, a special in-game rule)?

    Something really annoying that came up during the early versions of the Dinosaur decks was when they would summon the Lv 8 FIRE Dinosaur Kaiju to their side of the field, making their bosses effectively unaffected by Kaijus.

    Here's a simple rule change that would help: before you can tribute the opponent's monster, it's treated as a monster effect that activates and targets a monster, then tributes it after that to summon it. Then they'd still be useful but they can be countered.

      Their would be so many bullshit monsters you could no longer get over then. And the player who went first wins.
