Idk. People have tested what these cards could do in link format. I don't think it's any worse than the meta we have now. Besides... things like dark synchros, brilliant plant link SPAM, have done worse "degenerative plays" than this deck could ever do in link format. It just doesn't make sense to have a deck like this not go when we have handtraps, solems, untargetable effects to deal with it now. I say let them all come back at three to test the waters. Along with construct and inzectors. They just wont do ANYTHING

I think it had something to do with handloops. I think Gustkraken got limited before it even came out in the TCG, correct me if Im wrong.
yeah that's correct. Evigishki Gustkraken was limited before it was even ported to the TCG that's why only a few remembers it. but in case you didn't know, its loop is to return all the opponents hand cards to their deck first turn. mind augus also reset the graveyard by spamming it multiple times in a turn. and the combo is very consistent because Preparation of Rites is at three and Gishki have two to three searchers on its archetype.
You aren't wrong but man did I like playing against them. They were so unfair it went full circle back to being fun. Duels against Dragon Ruler felt like I was fighting an RPG final boss that keeps changing forms.
Rain Forest Whitaker I remember one of the most tense games I ever had, playing against Dragon Rulers in their prime with my Worm deck. It was neck and neck the whole time, and had I not made the wrong move and let them open up I might've won. One of my favorite battles just because I was keeping toe-to-toe against a T-1/0 deck with worms.
Dragon Ruler was probably the fairest T0 Deck of all time. They didnt Stop you from playing or ftk you, like typical T0. They we're just insane Powerfull. You had a small Chance of winning. And when you pull it off without Spellbook or The Anti high lv Deck you felled like you are Yugi himself. I did trolled tryhard/Scrubs Dragon Ruler Player in DN Back then with a Rank 5 Anti Ruler (without Vanity) Deck. Basically i just did make Volcasaurus into gaia for ca 5000 DMG. The Rest of the Duel i did 3000 DMG and survive xD Worked every time. But looking into they GY and hand and misplays i know a good Player would crushed me.
Expectation: Dragon Rulers coming back would just be another linkspam.dek, they have been powercreeped enough to be let free again
Reality: 1 Tempest was enough to generate 3 different ways to FTK you consistently in today's meta.
My most intense and fun match ever was against D Rulers.
There should be a boss mode with them and super powerfull cards

Me, who hasn't touched the franchise since 2005: hm this Stardust Dragon thing looks pretty strong
Man eater bug used to be an incredible card to deal with monsters. Now... monsters has like 3-4 effects. Thats why nostalgic favorites arent that much played anymore. Imagine dark magician has an effect like, discard 1 spellcaster on your hand to special summon this card. Once per turn, you can select 3 normal spell cards from your deck to your hand and let thr opponent pick one that would go to your hand. Put the rest into your graveyard. If this card on the field is sent to the graveyard, you can banish this and one spellcaster monster on your hand to special summon dark magician girl from your deck.
This is how ridiculous monster effects are right now.

I remember playing against Dragon Rulers. My opponent would start the turn with 5 cards in hand, and they would play a crapload of cards to search, then summon Dracossack. At the end of their turn, they have 6 cards in hand despite the fact they summoned a level 7 Xyz. It was just messed up how they got so many random pluses all the time so that they never ran out of material. I played a Zombie deck back then that could keep up with Dragon Rulers in terms of sheer tempo, but when I summoned my Xyz monsters it actually cost me cards, so I would inevitably lose after a few turns because the Dragon Ruler player still had 5 or 6 cards in hand while I was just top decking.

Infernities honestly scarred me the most, I never wanna see that deck ever again because I could go get a pizza eat the whole thing and my opponent's turn STILL wasn't over! Kinda like Spyral but for some reason ALL infernity players were good..

It was because as long as you had no cards in your hand and copied a good infernity deck the deck played itself noobs don't build up hands when they get a good field so it's perfect for them

Yu-GI-Oh has become pretty ridiculous in the last 2 or 3 years... PePe decks were such a fuck up on Konami's end. The newer deck completely bury anything else b4 them, like Nekroz, Shaddolls, PePe, and even Burning Abyss. The SPYRAL decks are even worse tbh.

My idea was to rotate them so that only one Dragon Ruler would be legal at a time. So first Mermail gets Tidal back for three months, then Tidal is rebanned and Harpies can use Tempest, and so on. So the Ruler deck will never be a thing, but they will come back every once in a while.

COUNTERPOINTS:
1. OMEGA - the thing about Omega is that there is an easy way to counter it. Ghost reaper. Most decks are siding ghost reaper anyway, so its not like you would changing people's strategy very much.
2. NEW DRAGON SUPPORT - ok I gotta admit dragon rulers with return of the dragon lords would be broke as fuck. And we have 3 ravine. And 3 debris. And glow up bulb. This is actually a really good point. I can't argue with it.
3. BFTDD - Pot of acquisitiveness is better. You get to recycle the dragons and draw a card. And it's not like getting them back in the grave would be hard with a blue-eyes engine and dark matter dragon.
I love the dragon rulers. I hated when they were tier 0. But I loved playing with them in other dragon decks right until they got banned. Hieratic rulers was tons of fun. So was lightsworn rulers.
I wish there was a way they could come back. I really do. But they can't. They are just too God damned broken.

it was basically a mini deck called clownblade that spammed rank 4s, but than pendulum support came out and the performage engine became really good and there were cards that started the engine easily (brilliant fusion summon seraphinite, foolish, wavering eyes, etc.) and generic pendulum support like luster etc. and generic xyz support like norden and instant fusion.
the engine consisted of performages, performpals, magicians, and generic support.
it had about 4 variants, its first was clownblade which upgraded to pepe than got support and was at its ultimate fullpower just as breakers of shadow was released until the emergency banlist dropped hitting previous cards. the deck than became dracopals and revolved around performapals and dracos. than the deck was hit multiple times creating multiple variants like dark draco pals and oddeyes dracopals till cards were again fully hit. then magician support was made and now we have magician pendulum.
it was able to make the best possible boards the game has ever seen while gaining advantage and being the most consistent and most fastest deck the game has seen.
ocg still had shockmaster and had exclusive called azzathoth while this deck was out, you were able to use lvl 4s and get out ptolemaus and that got out pleiades or infinity or tellar diamond and in ocg azzathoth too or even durendal which you can combo with droll to make your opponent lose their hand.
because the deck was so amazing and everyone played it, there was a popular combo for the mirror match which was mained and you could make king of the feral imps searching xsaber palumoru and use that and an earth to get out naturia beast.
you could pendulum summon, get 2 normals, search special summons, pop and special cards while also adding, you could xyz, synchro and fusion, you could negate, you could take cards, you could bounce, you could have multiple lockdown cards, you had nontargetable removal, you could reduce dmg taken, you could take away your opponents hand, you could banish or shuffle, you could burn your opponent, you could search trap holes and counter traps, almost everything floated and you could otk easily etc. you could do everything.
NightClubSamurai lel zoodiac and dragon rulers and nekroz are shit compared to pepe especially drulers and zoodiacs nekroz has a chance of winning but the rest is shit

Even though I "miss" Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders in my Plant Princess deck, it IS what it is. Things have changed so much over the years... And so has our expanded card pool.
I think a lot of people want these decks back because they used to get destroyed by those decks, so having access to them now for cheaper is a satisfying feeling.

To clarify, Rulers into Tomohawk
All of the dragon rulers, except for maybe redox, can go to 1. Earth attribute has become to powerful over the last couple of formats. Just ban galaxy tomahawk, and dark matter dragon, and they'll be fine. Master rule 4 made tomahawk broke so its was going to happen eventually anyways. Blue eyes, and mythic rulers can come back into the spotlight, and I don't think they'll be as dominate as spyral, or as consistent as magicians. The cards mentioned in this video are already abused to hell in lightsworn, zombies, and infernoid, so it wont make much of a difference.

Played during the Dragon Ruler era. I would like to see them all at least to one. I've always liked piloting dragon decks in general (blueyes/redeyes/oddeyes/chaosdragons) and dragon rulers were just always so fun to play with. That's what i liked about them, that they were fun.
I agree with pretty much all your points here. But I will say that that was probably my favorite format. I'm a little biased because Spellbooks were my first competitive deck and I've been playing since Summoned Skull was meta. But also because to my knowledge this was the only time in Yugioh that there were two tier 0 decks. Which I know is awful if you're not playing either of those decks, but really cool if you're playing one against the other.

Dragon Rulers looked SICK. But +7 during the End Phase was beyond nuts.
Honestly the fact that Dragon Rulers were an extremely flexible deck is what made them fun to play. They had different strategies versus the mirror, versus Spellbooks, vs Evilswarm, vs various rogue decks etc. That can't be said for a lot of decks nowadays which seem to be focused on pushing to a game-winning monster or board (SPYRAL Sleeper, Timestar Magician, Droll and Reincarnation combo...).
I want them to come back simply because I feel they would be more fun...Except for maybe Tomohawk. That I can be concerned about.
Yes. There was more creativity in the game back in DR/Spell book/Evilsworn era unlike now where there is 1 game winning condition for each deck
I'd like to see konami do something creative with rulers, like limiting one each banlist while re-banning the one that they limited the previous banlist or something like that; that may require them to limit/ban dark matter dragon though

Why I want to see Dragon Rulers back at 1; to see what they can actually do in the current game, they are also fun to play in my personal opinion, we have seen plenty of cards and decks that surpass the Dragon Rulers in terms of power and we have decks that can compete with them and I don't expect them to be as dominating as they were during their time, also there are more viable counters to Dragon Rulers. I also want to add that I also want to see Shurit, Stratos, Construct and Towers off the banlist together with the Rulers.
I think it would be really interesting to see how all the old meta decks would compete with the newer ones. And considering that a lot of old arche types are pretty much useless i think it's a huge waste. That doesn't mean that you have to allow all the old cards again. I'm sure there is a way to keep everything balanced
I very much agree with you on your points, I think people are looking back with too much fondness at those old formats and forgetting how much they bitched about those decks when they were relevant. I was playing most from 2009-2015 and I remember all those decks and how frustrating it was to try and play a control deck against dragon rulers. Though at the same time I never really had too many problems dealing with Inzektors or Wind ups. I think the only deck I truly miss was Chaos Dragons. That was one hell of a deck.
You should have mentioned dragon rulers can easily summon galaxy tomahawk, nearly no minus. Ridicously tokens breeder in the link format.

I really liked Dragon Rulers in decks that aren't dragon Rulers.
I used to play 3 tidal in Frog monarchs back in the day to either summon a beater to punch face or send treeborn to grave.
It was a really nice card with a lot of elemental synergy.
If there was a complex ban on them allowing only one attribute of D-ruler to be in a deck at a time, they could likely be at 3 at it wouldn't be that big a deal.

Oh, you just mentioned the Inzektor/Dino/Windup format and a ton of nostalgia hit me because of my old WindUp rogue deck. It was fun because I didn't use the Hunter strategy. I just liked to flood the field with 3 carriers :p

Well when we got the Dragonbane Archetype in particular Buster Blader The Dragon Destroyer Swordsman who negates all Dragon effects people thought the Rulers could come off since there was now a hard counter deck for it but with Link format that deck isn't viable at the moment so yeah let's keep them on the list for now.
Dragon rulers could easily come back; just limit their summoning conditions to their own attributes. No more banishing dragons; you can only special summon them by banishing 2 cards of their own attributes (fire for blaster, water for tidal, earth for boulder.). That way even if you try to build dragon rulers you have to have a bunch of random monsters.
That's pretty much what I've been saying. The Dragon Rulers were meant to be good support cards for Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind decks, so errata them by removing the "Dragon-type" part on all of them, babies and daddies, and you're good to go. No more broken plays.
Aquaria infernoids feeds off of the fire one they can easily abuse its effect- more or so in the hand discard it and any fire type just to pop any card on the field

My favorite plays in the game i still remember was at a highly competitive locals(patrick hobans locals) playing evilswarms and i went to game 3 against a 100% dragon ruler deck by means photon papilloperative into a draccosack token. I still remember the look on his face and realization that he lost. 😂

I think one of the cards that everyone about with dragon rulers is eclipse wyvern. Lightsowrn rulers were a solid deck. And I think the dark matter OTK would be enabled in we had any D ruler back with eclipse wyvern.
Here’s the difference. When you’re dueling against Dragun of Red Eyes, if your deck doesn’t have a splashable non negatable out for a non target non destruction removal, you have to scoop. When you’re dueling dragon rulers you don’t have to scoop. You just duel and try to out play them with resources and strategy. Skill is gone from Yu-Gi-Oh.

I just really like the idea of older decks coming back to full power to shake up the meta and create more diverse formats. That being said, I think Dragon Rulers aren't old enough to come back yet. Wind-Ups and Inzektors should absolutely come back as fun and powerful tier 2 options.
well my theory on why they want old meta decks off the ban list is because they want something to counteract the meta that they now hate. i'm actually questioning why is it that whenever there are cards that support certain attribute(specifically monsters) that there are none for dark's or light's like the dragon rulers.
Because Dark and Light already have the best support. Earth too. Poor Wind, Water, and Fire...basically Infernoid, Mermail, and Harpies are the only decks.
As someone who has loved mermails since day 1 (mostly because of their synergy with frogs, my favourite archetype of all time) i just want to say that I get very excited if people top events with mermail decks :D

Nekroz Can do it But Its a bit hard because u have to bait The pop rulers Can do it with The level 4 synchro that equips itself (cant remember name) and even then they have to bait The pop (dont know if books or pepe Can out it)
Rulers and maybe people for sure. Evern things like Nekroz and zoodiac don't hold a candle to these decks in their prime.

i think the only thing fearful about wind ups is the hand loop. similar in how you mentioned omega in rulers regardless it can even recycle, you just special rulers get a level 1 tuner and boom omega, than tag out to hit a card x3 and they move out of extra link zones.
even with links winds up can get around by tributing carrier and bringing out the next carrier which is insane. its extremely consistent too only needing 2 to 3 cards and you have multiple ways to get your combo started.
the other issue is an alternative shock lock, this again only takes about 3 cards but this time you cant get around links with just those 3 combo pieces. if you do happen to, i guess bagooska would be the sub for shock.
the deck doesnt do much with only 1 carrier currently even with hunter legal and 2 magicians. if it does comeback i cant see all cards being unlimited, i can see carrier slowly coming back or hunter banned and carrier to 2 or 3.
hand traps like ash and ogre somewhat hurt the deck alot like any other deck but the deck had only dealt with veiler and maxx c previous for turn 1. i also cant see this deck surviving turn 2 against the current and future meta because it has to rely on heavy link support to bring out its main win con, plus it has to run removal to deal with board pres, and it has to play around hand traps and backrow. it no longer has heavy, reborn, or avarice, i could see this playing shuffle reborn though since its og zoo.
the deck without hand loop is magician boards without pendulum summoning, spyral boards with a zoo aspect, and a burning abyss board but instead of beatrice, its a flood monster.
an awkward version of this deck with only the hand loop is basically trickstar.

Number 95 and the limited to 1 Dragon rulers were legal for one event only, and that event was the Maryland regional, I attended that regional where a lot of players scrambled to get the deck prior to the event. I only played against 1, and I can’t remember the outcome, but I know the deck was good. Thank Komoney for not hitting it faster :)
Now I know why this video got demonitised, you're spreading false news, Return of the Dragon Lords came in the Rise of the True Dragon Lords structure deck a.k.a. the second Felgrand structure deck and is not a Blue-Eyes card although Blue-Eyes can make the best use out of it.

I think that at the end of 2018 there is a genuine argument that rulers could come back because all the decks in the meta have hard counters to them (I’m talking Geist, t drag, striker and FTK) and it would be interesting to see them back when colossus stops the searching, as well as stops dark matter dragon from destroying them by battle and Geist negates their stuff and non target/destruction removals it, striker just negates their effects and takes control of them, as well as destroys them quite easily (ftk just does what it says on the tin).
Also ash blossom and droll are things so they could be used against the search effects, or belle could be used against return if the dragon lords.
I just feel like that with so many counters to them there is a decent argument now for them to come back (maybe not fully but in part at least).

Just because the game has counters for d rulers doesn’t mean they can come back. Should pot of greed comeback just because we have ash? Nope. The d rulers are just gonna stay banned forever.
I stopped playing Yu Gi Oh because how badly balanced it is. They always make gigantic powercreeps and then ban them. It's absurd how many cards are banned so fast.

Most of the time its because of unseen abuse potential just like super rejuvenation with the dragon rulers, when super rejuvenation came out in 2005 or so it was a rather bad/mediocre card but everything changed when the -fire nation attacked- dragon rulers came by, another example is morphing jar #2 (and another miller card) and all-out attack, and many other combinations of old cards with new cards, i think it is too hard to keep track of all the damn cards that are created, but yeah there is also some other cards are created just to be almost instantly banned.
I still remember coming back to yugioh right when dragon rulers were at 3 then finding out about lightsworns and revolving my deck around that then having limited rulers in it. Good times

Pot of Acqusitiveness can also cycle the Dragon Rulers back though it would put them back into the deck instead.
1) we didnt hate the deck we hated it proce tag.
2) e dragons were playing with 6 card hands 5 cards slows it down
3) yue deck will get heavily stuned by hand traps
I honestly feel like there are enough play disruption in the game now that each Dragon Ruler to one would not be broken but simply balance. Granted you can play Omega, but people can Strike it, Ghost Ash it, or even use that PK trap. Just saying, granted in the past few years since that format they were still considered broken but the game has evolved since that time

CosmicKitten10 It probably does have the best chance of coming back next compared to the rest of the lot. I’ve mostly seen people talk about how Redox and Blaster are the most abuseable in the modern game, but more sparse arguments against Tidal

I wish they made retrains that only work with their respective elements and not with dragon-type monsters: "Elemental rulers" if you will. And they be have winged-beast, pyro, aqua and rock type for good measure. I always loved playing one dragon ruler in an element-based deck. You could get rid of the search effect to prevent abuse.
They can come back if you nerf them. That's the only way. Either that or just bring one of the back to one.

Jory Porteous erratas would ruin them. i agree its far fetched, i never see erratas as a choice because it pushes people away from playing those cards ever again which is unfair.

as said above by minicooper, true kings are new rulers (even though they are very inconsistent and got very close to completely useless, they already took a big hit with lithos gone)
I think it would be a fun experiment if you made a deck profile of the best deck ever. What I mean is build a deck around the "what if" every single card in the game was legal and at 3.
Dragon ruler hands down best deck they banned the whole archetype! The whole deck unbann it it'll be tier 0 again with ease
What they need is an errata which restricts their effects: can only be special summoned from the hand, if they’re banished they can’t search themselves.
I say do an errata where the Dragon Rulers and their babies don’t work with Dragons and just make them generic support for attributes. Of course leave the part where they can only search a Dragon of their Attribute and not just any monster of that Attribute, cause that would be bonkers.
I feel people argue that certain cards should come back for certain decks because now-a-days they seem more healthy and balanced compared to what we have now. The Dragon Rulers in their current iteration should not return.

During Wind-Up/Inzektor/Dino-Rabbit era I played Dark Worlds every week at my locals once they came out and Wind-Ups could do nothing against me. I usually always had an out to the other two decks as well. Either negate the spell or lose your Laggia to Grapha but I have another discard spell waiting anyway

here's an idea for an errata for dragon rulers. When this card is summoned or sent to the GY: banish all "Dragon Ruler" monsters with different attributes from your hand, deck, field, or GY, face-down. This will prevent dragon rulers from working together.
I hate this attitude. You should take most things off the ban list because if you did there would be a load of decks competing. To be honest no one really knows what's broken or what's not broken because they haven't seen any of the old meta decks competing in today's game. If you release most of the ban list you could observe what's too good and ban accordingly. The fact of the matter is the reason that there are tier 0 formats is because decks that would compete against them are banned. This also suits konami because they get more money for the new broken decks that come out. The truth is sure there is more support for drulers nowadays but there is also plenty of ways to shut them down. So here's my proposal release most of the ban list bar generic cards like pot of greed graceful charity monster reborn etc and see what that meta is like. Plus link format would slow the rulers down too.
paddyd50 gamer if there was no banlist, dragon rulers wouldn’t be tier 0, it would be a exodia ftk turn one wins 100% of the time format. They would then move from banning them to the top deck until we’re at where we are now. Banned cards tend to have a reason behind it.
@@zachcondel7116 not really. The exodia FTK you are right about and that should never happen. Some generic cards like Pot of Greed should stay banned. But there are decks that are not played anymore simple becauze of the banlist and if they come back it would be more competitive. Dragon Rulers in link format would not even be tier 1 now so why keep them banned? Even spell book of judgement should come back and infernity cards should go back to 3. The new archetypes are way more powerful than the old ones so there is no reason to ban cards in the first place , just add more cards. But then again its for money

Were you around for Dragon Rulers? Dragon Rulers can still abuse link mechanic and just spam different and newer extra deck cards. Dragon rulers in their prime with support from a lot of cards released after they got hit would be fairly strong.
Dragon Rulers have not been power creeped as much as you think. The deck was far too versatile for its own good.

I believe that the rulers can come back with an errata that changes the summoning condition to banishing 2 non-dragon type monsters of the same attribute as the ruler. That would allow them to be used by different decks of the same attribute without being abused by dragon type decks.
