We rescued a stray tuxedo female cat who soon after had a litter of four girls. When they were born they were this strange off white colour but then they started changing colour. Three ended up with the classic brown tips but the fourth one changed to a beautiful lilac/grey colour. We named them Mollie, Hollie, Gracie and Bessie. Mollie is the only one still alive from that litter and she has her 15th birthday next month. And she’s still changing colour, depending on the weather.

I too had a stray tuxedo give birth to Siamese babies. They were the first kittens I bottle fed because their mother went into heat when they were tiny. One of those kittens grew up to be my best friend throughout my teenage years and into my twenties, and a huge reason I got into rescue.

    • @WingedAsarath
      @WingedAsarath Год назад +19

@@madethistocomment727makes sense when you think about it - it's the temperature that tells their genes to inhibit colour or not, and those genes don't just switch off. So when it's colder weather more of their body will be cooler and they'll darken up.

@@daniellewoolley8607 No, I’ve heard of Siamese cats, but I’d never heard the term “color point” before. My cat definitely has Siamese coloring, but she is nowhere as skinny and angular in the face as they are. We just assumed she was either part Siamese or maybe apple headed buramese.
Whatever she is, watching her colors darken up so much over the years was really neat and it’s nice to know the scientific term for that now ☺️🖤

Goodmorning dear lady. I rescued a female "Balinese" that had a very light cream coat with mocha colored "colorpoints". After 2 years of home bliss, she has really changed colorwise. I think is from Bali, Indonesia.
Btw I live in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.
Oh, when I read on Wiki apparently it's from US.
"As is the case with their short-haired counterparts, a genetic distinction is made between traditional or "old-style" and modern body types. In the American standard, color variants derived from the Colorpoint Shorthair are further considered a separate breed, known as the Javanese. There is no particular connection between these cats and the Indonesian islands of Bali and Java, from which they derive their names.
Like their Siamese ancestors, Balinese are sociable, vocal, playful, inquisitive, and intelligent."

Color point cats are the best! I have 2 color point cats that we rescued. We have a flame point and a seal point (both females). They both have the BEST personalities. Our seal point came from a litter that had a kitten that looked like a calico on half her face and a seal point on the other side of her face. She was beautiful. There was also a tabby cat in the same litter. We ended up adopting him too because he was bonded with the seal point which turned out to be the best decision ever!

We rescued a litter of 3 kittens so young they hadn’t opened their eyes yet….one grey tabby, one brown tabby, and one buff colored. We had homes lined up for all three, but one family was going to be moving house soon so we offered to hold onto the little buff fellow. Well you KNOW what happened: by the time they got all settled in we had fallen in love with this very special little guy, who developed into a handsome lynx point. I understood the “foster fail” syndrome (😆😁) ,but I had never understood why these kittens didn’t color-up until they got a bit older. Thank you for explaining temperature sensitive albinism. ❤ 🐈

Even took him to the vet thinking something was wrong because his fur was getting darker
He's my first cat so I'm still learning the ropes haha

We rescued a beautiful seal point boy back in October - we planned to do a TNR but realized he had some visual impairment so decided (with veterinary input) he'd be better off just joining our household, and it's been so interesting watching his final coloration come in. He has the look of an actual Siamese cat, with the pale blue eyes and the specific facial bone structure, but his Wisdom Panel (thanks for letting us know about those, Hannah!) says he's very little Siamese and his bone structure comes from significant Sphynx DNA.
His name is Milo but I like to call him Sourpatch because he was SO mad about being kidnapped from outside (which, to be fair, I guess I can understand) but learned really quickly how much he loved being safe, warm, and dry all the time, with all the food and head massages he wants. Just like the candy: first he was sour, now he's sweet. :)

My kitty had really pronounced dark markings in the winter, and in the summer, they were much more faded. Very cool! Now I know why. Since you guys only have one season in So Cal you probably don't see that with your cats, lol.

Very interesting! Last summer we had a tortie mama cat show up under our carport with 3 perfectly white kittens. One eventually gained orange coloring on his ears, nose, & tail, another gained grey coloring, & the third remained solid white with beautiful long fur. I never knew what this was called or what caused it. Thanks for sharing!

When I was a kid (I was around 15 at the time), at my granny's she had barn cats. We knew one of them was pregnant and we saw her one day obviously skinnier lol, so we went looking for the babies. They were all black but there was this one white kitten with blue eyes. I fell in love and brought her hone once she was old enough. She ended up a flame point. I miss her dearly, my mom refused to let me have a litter box and she got ran over when she was far too young. She will always be one of my favorite kitties, her name was Pie Face (cause she looked like she stuck her face in a peach pie 🧡). I kinda think my Peppermint is Pie Face come back. She acts such the same way, she's all white with a blue eye and a green eye (no deafness, either!). She's just turned 17 this month! I've had her since I was 18. None of my cats go outside unless it is supervised now. We are gonna build a catio this year! :)

I have a color point cat who turned out super dark! You can still see creamy fur around his neck and shoulders and the brown on his belly is lighter, but otherwise he's mostly brown. When I learned that the color is temperature sensitive I felt a little guilty but honestly, thinking back, he always had the warmest spots to sleep and would have his kitten naps in the middle of my folded legs so I guess that's just his fur pattern.
