Ha. That’s good lol
He didn't hiss once, used his paws gently and never bit. He just vocally talked about his displeasure. Good boy! Yeah, wait till he loses a few pounds he will be a very active cat! Great job!
If he's already this fast and active at that weight, he's going to be a decathlete when he slims down! I feel like his future vets, unless they get on his good side while he's still huge, will end up following the wisdom of Dr. James Herriot; in one of his books, it was mentioned that if you can't even _catch_ your patient? Then whatever's wrong with them can't be that serious~😅😂🤣

Yeah, for all of his complaining, he was actually very well behaved (relatively speaking)
I couldn't tell if he was enjoying the blow dryer or trying to get into position to smack it with his paw.

My beautiful Renny was 23 lbs. when I adopted him. Sweetest cat in the world. It took me a long time to get his weight down safely. The damage was done though and he already had diabetes. He lived to age 17 and it was devastating when he died. I will always miss his cuddles. Still brings me to tears.
My Muffin kitty lived to 22. When it was time for her to go, I cried like a baby for weeks. However, I did not cry over mother's death. 🤔
Thank you for giving him a wonderful life by adopting him. It's always so hard to let them go, but rewarding to know that you did all you could to give them a wonderful rest of their lives.
So sorry for your loss. It's so hard...
17 years old is still a "long time" ⌛️ for a male cat, so you did an excellent job caring for him.
So sorry. 😞
I think Bean was extremely well behaved considering he was just new to owners and probably new to grooming.I bet he’s going to do well with different nutrition habits.
I suspect part of the reason Bean was so well-behaved is because he could feel how much it was helping. His rubbing his cheek at the end--"This is mine, now."
Plus he’s crazy over weight so not much motivation to do much😂😂
Such a sweet marshmallow of a cat. Informs you of his boundaries, but doesn't need to enforce them because Vanessa is so good at cat body language and behaviour. She'd stop a lot of things the moment he even raised a paw, and if they were necessary things she didn't use force, just patience. The things she did in this video might not seem very special, but having done years of other peoples' cats nail trims etc, she was so very gentle and respectful of his boundaries.
At no point was he in distress. He was stressed and anxious but never to the point of fear or panic, and that's really important. Some people just treat every cat or dog the same and do the same actions with each -- Vanessa treats each animal as an individual and pays careful attention to their specific needs. It's so wonderful to watch.
Lovely Bean came out looking SO soft and gorgeous. I hope he enjoys no longer being so itchy, and can sort out the paw-chewing and weight with his new wonderful family. Thank you for bringing him in to be groomed, and thank you Vanessa as always for doing so with such compassion, competence and good humour.

Bean was a VERY good baby! He just used the growl as a defense mechanism. That is it. He loses that weight and he will be even more handsome than he is now!
Poor Bean. I hope his new family can give him the proper nutrition and exercise to get him to a healthy weight.
probably why they adopted him
Losing weight is difficult for cats. One of my cats was pretty round when I got her. And then gained more weight because she was eating her own food and then stealing food from the other cat on top of that. Now she's on a strict diet, but little to no progress on losing weight in 3 years. Mainly due to the fact that she is a very very lazy kitty and doesn't like to do much other than chilling on her side.
Keeping your animal at the right weight is SUCH a hard thing for pet parents bc they just view it as they’re eating good. So many don’t understand the health and side affects overweight can cause on an animal. It’s also “funny” to them and most people.
@@Kligan As with all mammals, cutting calories will lose weight far more effectively than exercise will.
@@AlbertaGeek She's already eating less than she supposed to for her weight. It's just a very slow process to not cause any health issues. And yes, she's being checked out by a vet at least twice a year.
Bean has a poopy but because he is unable to reach it! 😮
I fostered a cat who was brought to the vet to be put to sleep by the owner, and returned from 3 other foster homes because she was pooping on her people’s bed. She was obese, her fur was also dirty and her but was inflamed because she couldn’t reach it and clean it. But she allowed me to wash it gently with a warm wash cloth and baby shampoo every day and put Penaten ointment on it. Penaten cream contains zinc, which took away the burn. But I was safe because she couldn’t reach it and lick it.
In my care she never missed the litter box, lost slowly some weight and found a loving home after almost one year.
Daily brushing helps to keep the fur clean and restores the cat’s dignity.
Great job fostering that kitty! 😄

Thank you for making this cat a clean Bean! Best of luck to him and his new forever family. Her owner went back to feeding on demand, with exactly the results you’d expect. Broke my heart.
Oh that makes me so mad on behalf of you and the cat, that's so upsetting
How do you get a cat to lose weight? Is it just the feeding? Can you exercise a cat? I don't even know!
@Yesica1993 Mostly the portions and quality of food, but play is a great way to distract a kitty that wants a treat. Lots of pets, scritches, and toys. She was a Maine Coon, so walkies were also a thing.

Hi! I volunteer at an SPCA in a middle-class suburban community in NY State, USA. Abuse and neglect of animals is, reprehensibly, universal. I work with cats. Our center doesn't have a groomer like you (so sad) and the matted cats are spot shaved. I do what I can with a brush with the ones who will let me, which is most, but (oh, no) not all! I have learned about stretching their skin, kinds of brushes and how best to use them from watching your videos. I don't get to bathe them, though there are more cats needing baths than one might think. We wind up with many obese kitties who can't reach their backs for grooming or had only eaten cheap food and developed greasy, dandruffy coats. Take heart, you do good work with animals (sentient souls) who need you! I love watching your videos, your care for your clients/patients is obvious. My best to you!
You do such important work ❤ thank you for bringing a little bit more kindness to those around you

@@uliwehner Letting a cat get _that_ obese is pure neglect. Unless Vanessa is right in suspecting some kind of underlying medical reason for him getting that big, that is. I hope his new owners help him, whatever the cause.
@@Pe-S what a mean thing to say. We adopted a cat who weighed 30 pound when we got him. he had never been outside, so we got him used to going on the patio, big fenced in yard. he was very athletic. after some time he dropped to 20 pounds stable weight. He could jump 6 feet in the air from a dead stop. he was never abused, just overweight for lack of exercise. at 20 pounds he was a very impressive cat. he scared the neighbors dogs by just sitting in the yard. as i said, a big cat can weigh 20+ pound and be healthy as a horse. Girl: “chubby kitty”
Bean: what did this human just called meee??
His confusion of if he liked the blowdryer or not was very entertaining to see. Since he liked to move around so much, I hope it makes it easier for him to drop some of his excess.
He's a smart kitty, he realized pretty quickly that it wasn't going to kill him, so he was mostly putting up with it. He didn't love it, and definitely would not rate it 5 stars, but he wasn't terrified. Just "Could you not?".
Sometimes, the really fat cats that get adopted were previously owned by people who had Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia where they would feed their cat too many times a day since they couldn't remember if they had already fed them.
That is so true
It doesn't just happen in those circumstances. I lived for some years with a black Labrador who was an absolute mistress of the art of persuading anyone not around when she was fed that it had never happened. She got so clever at working out who was in or out that she got two meals on several occasions. Eventually we had to create a sign which read, in large block capitals, "THE DOG HAS BEEN FED". This was propped against the kettle by whoever did the feeding... but she would still try all her most pathetic wiles on whoever came in last.
@@jennypratt5345 yes, we had a yellow lab who would tell one of us she hadn't been fed yet when she had...we always had to verify. 😅
@@judymiller5154 There were four of us living in, and working out of, that farmhouse; hence the sign. With people coming and going at different times every day it was easy to make mistakes. On one memorable occasion (at a very busy time of year) she managed to persuade three people to feed her one after the other in the space of a couple of hours!!!
Sheesh, I just posted that, not knowing you'd already said it! Ah, well; that's how it goes sometimes. 😄

Hopefully he can lose some weight the poor thing 😢
Bean was grumbly but all over a lovely kitty. No strikes, just a push away (enough) paw. I hope he feels better after and that his new family will support him to get back on track x
with how much he moves, i wonder if his owners could harness train him and take him outside for walks. who knows, it might be the best way for him to get some exercise!
I have 100% lured my chunky girl cat around the yard on leash with food to make her walk around. Also used it to make her go up and down stairs, that really made her work out. Stairs might be difficult for this level of chonk though, mine is still under 12lbs.
He'd literally be a "runner bean" 😆
You ever try to harness train a cat? I didn't think so.
@GorriaAltxor, it won't work because he's an adult he would just lie down. If he was a kitten and was trained, it would work. The Kitten Lady would say it wouldn't work unless he was trained at a young age. The Kitten Lady is an expert.
@@Shay-ik1xq oh it's difficult for sure and takes time, even just finding a harness they like is a pain. If you have an enclosed yard it's easier to practice. But it never hurts to try and he seems really limber for his weight, so it could work out.

HE’S SO CUTE MY HEART ohhh ❤
People really underestimate the effect arthritis has on weight, especially in older animals (and people). It very quickly turns into a vicious cycle where it hurts them to move, which means they gain more weight, which puts more pressure on their joints, which causes more pain, so they move less, which means more weight gain, etc.
Sometimes you have to treat that pain before they have any hope of losing that weight.
With animals it's just a matter of feeding an appropriate amount of calories (and finding the right medication, if it's a medical issue). With humans it's mostly the same thing, but it's much harder to get people to stick to a strict diet.
He's probably at a size where he'd be a good candidate for hydrotherapy if he'd tolerate the water, to take the pressure off his joints while exercising.
@@eden.nd. Wish I could afford that for my older cat. In my cat’s defense, at least, he most likely has some Maine Coon in his family tree somewhere because he’s always been tall, long, and heavily muscled. Massive head and giant paws, too. So his issues probably started with the arthritis as a result of just being large in general, like how larger dog breeds are more prone to joint problems regardless of their weight. I can tell my cat is trying to be active…he’s just a bit too stiff for it right now.
@@Narangarath Cutting calories doesn’t do much if they’re in too much pain to move. There’s a strict limit to how much you can cut calories for a cat before it becomes dangerous.
You can actually feed them less, the weight causes so much issues.
I think you have leveled up the game of rubbing your tummy and patting your head at the same time by brushing and scratching Bean simultaneously. I hope his humans can keep you updated on his health journey, because I for one love this fluff ball and would love to know.
I think about what some of these animals have been through before they arrive on your table if they have recently been adopted. Different people, different environments. Different animals around them. It's traumatizing for people who understand why they are moving and why they are undergoing changes, but for animals, it must be really tough. The ones who end up working with you while they are undergoing tremendous change are lucky indeed.
Bean is one handsome unit. Methinks Bean doth protest a bit much; I noticed that, during the blow dry, he was like, "Yes, I'm growling at you, but here's my belly so you can dry it." Vanessa, your technique with cats is improving; I think you're really starting to "get" them.

He did pretty good, considering. I hope his new owners get the pet wipes. They are easy to use to clean the back end. Beans is lucky to have been adopted by a good owner.
This is amazing. You took such good care of him and he needed it. Bean got a fresh start!
We had a 31 pound cat. Clyde was something else, but he also did not eat much at all and never stole anything else. That was years ago. More recently (2010) we got another and he was 17 pounds. He would eat and eat and make himself sick. Now he's down to 8-9 pounds, is 16 years old and on a strict diet.
My cat Luna jumped up by my TV in concern when Bean was meowing in the tub. Then she glared at me for not helping the kitty who was clearly in distress. 😂
8:49 THE LITTLE HEAD BOB HE DOES xD
Look at him leaning into the brush at the end. Hims a happy boi.
How wide his eyes got when the dryer turned on! Poor guy. Overall he was so polite, gave lots of warnings but didn't follow through. What a good boy!
He looks like he simply DESPISES Mondays
To make the biscuits, you must *be* all the biscuits.
🙌🙌🙌🙌
is this the cat version of "don't trust a skinny chef"?

What a distinguished rotund gentleman! It's clear the family is going to take excellent care of Bean!
It always breaks my heart to see very overweight cats. My childhood cat was this obese, and we did everything we could to reverse it, but nothing worked. She was so big she couldn't reach to clean herself, so feces collected on her behind that we'd have to remove for her. She died relatively young of a massive heart attack in my arms, and it was devastating. I'm so glad this cat has a new family that's dedicated to him, and I wish them all the best.
Comments: He's a chonk boy!
Vanessa: he has a wide circumference
She's truly a professional ❤❤and
13:06 So it's not a _happy_ meow, but it's not necessarily a "I'm furious and enraged" meow. More of a "I'm annoyed and not a fan of this, but I can live with it a little longer, maybe."
Wow what a transformation he looks awesome!
Poor Mr. Bean! He's such a good boy, trying to tell you how he feels about the whole thing, without inflicting any wounds. He'll be glad to go home, I bet!
