This video is my second tutorial on how to learn calligraphy for beginners. This is to show how to learn Gothic capitals stroke by stroke and you can follow along with my free practice sheet below!

I like the live vs. voice over. I think it really helps us all, as learners, to see you sort-of challenged, or just unsatisfied with ✍️ drawing your D. It makes you human. Yet still inspiring to keep trying and practicing. And then once this is understood I look forward to adding my own style to it. Thanks for the tutorial. Keep them coming, in whatever way works best for you, live or voice over.

UPDATE: For anyone experiencing audio issues, it's because you are on a mobile device. It works perfectly fine on a desktop computer. I'm looking into why this is happening.

UPDATE UPDATE: Plug in headphones and it works on the phone too! All new videos will now not have this problem!

I think this is a good idea for those who would like to learn Calligraphy. I would say that next time, you should find a way to keep the paper still, so you'll have more control doing the letters. I also do Calligraphy and I don't use line guide but I have been doing calligraphy for a very long time now. Thanks for the video and remember that practice makes perfect.

So glad you uploaded this video. I am teaching a group of middle schoolers Italic calligraphy and gothic lettering I have not studied. I needed demonstration and practice sheets to get ready to teach them. Since this style is not popular right now it was a challenge to find the help I needed. So - thank you.

Loved your video. I have been trying to learn with dip pens. It's a little overwhelming. It seems like right when I get the hang of the motions I run out of ink. I just bought the pens you recommended off amazon. Really looking forward to them. Thank you for your work!
I know how you feel. The pilot parallels are perfect for you then, they allow even flow and last for a full practice session. You may want to get a refill pack as they are really fun to use
I kinda figured and preemptively bought all the pens and a box each of the color and black refills, plus the paper. I tend to go a bit overboard when I get into a new craft. Super excited. Thanks for your help.

Thank you for sharing. I was wondering about sizing of letters based on the size of the pen nib. Do you explain that in another video. I have visions of people using a really small nib and then trying to practice these very large letters. :)
Oooo you found a blind spot of my videos. I believe I mention this is for the 6mm pilot parallel, but I should definitely have more sheets at different sizes

trying to write cursive in my own way, i try to make every capital letter look cool and u as a capital letter just doesnt work
Really liked the video, been wanting to take up calligraphy, I started out, and lots of videos are showing using pilot with the square tip. Are the inks really “juicy” I find that I don’t get good sharp edges, I am using calligraphy paper. Any suggestions?
If you are using the pilot parallel inks that come with the pen, they tend to bleed/feather more than other inks. I use watercolour paper for that ink. When I refill I use ecoline liquid watercolour. What density is the paper? (Gsm or lb)
I like the Gothic letters in your video. Those I found were a bit confusing... Thanks. Hope to have the practice sheet tho

Cool tutorial. May I ask why the order of strokes are different for the same letter?
+赵丰 Thanks! That's a valid point, probably because the order isn't that important. However, to make sure you have space when writing words it's best to write the main stem first.

+Jeffrey Hey Jeffrey, it's a variation of "Old English Gothic" but simplified a bit.
To-day i have subscribed your channel and i am very much interested in learning Gothic calligraphy and i am still thinking which sizes of pen i should purchase as i am interested in writing in small letter and thinking of buying two sizes 1.5 mm and 2.4 mm pilot parallel pen and your response is appreciated.

+Insight Curiosity. Hey there! I definitely recommend pilot parallels of any size, but since you specifically want to write small those two you've chosen would definitely do it. However, they are quite close in size, and I suggest for more variation to get the 6mm and the 2.4mm. Up to you though... Cheers!

Sorry random thought came to me. Because of camera restrains, perhaps you could tape your Paige to a clipboard or other hard moveable surface. I think that might help, yeah?!

Man, I just got the Parallel Kit and I’m lefthanded. I’m seeing in my mind’s eye that all my strokes are going to be in reverse because there’s no way to push these nibs. They gotta be pulled. Uh boi.

Hey! It is a Pilot Parallel, and it has ink cartridges inside of it. Really handy for not dipping at all!

Good eye, looking back at this video. I changed my stroke order a few times during the video (oops). There is no wrong way as long as the you get a nice letter at the end! Of the different ones, try them all and see what works the best for you!

Okay goodness I’m sorry. Realize this is from two years ago but future sheets could you include steps. Or just different pen colors to give us an idea of where to start and end so that the letters look most consistent. I realize you are showing us but I am a slow learner and like to be able to have as much info as possible. And references for when I practice and don’t have wi fi available. Thanks. Great work. BTW.
